"Print" to pdf function missing in Word and other strange print behaviour

I'm trying to narrow down an issue I'm having with printing. I just noticed that the ability to creat a pdf in Word (print -> save as pdf) has disappeared. The button is now gone for some strange reason. I also noticed when trying to print a Keynote outline, when selecting ColorSync (print -> copies and pages [click and select ColorSync]) all my choices are gone (grayscale, b&w, etc.). Something's obviously wrong, but is it my printer software (HP 7310 aio) or OSX? My guess is the two issues are tied together.
Also, I haven't added any new software to my computer and all software updates have been installed.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have no idea whether this will help you or not, but IF some system software somewhow got corrupted, it should help.
1. Download either OS 10.4.10 COMBO update for Intel or OS 10.4.10 COMBO update for PPC
2. Run disk Utility Verify Disk
3. Run Disk Utility Repair Permissions
4. Reinstall OS 10.4.10 from the combo installer that you downloaded in (1).
5. Run Disk Utility Repair Permissions
6. Run  Software Update to make sure you have all the security patches that were released since the COMBO update was released.
7. If you got downloads in (6), run Disk Utility Repair Permissions
8. See whether you are working now

  • How do I get a print to pdf file option from Word and PP?

I have windows vista. How do I get a print to pdf file option from Word and PP?

Do you own Acrobat? If so what version? If not what version of Word and PP do you have? Newer versions contain non-Adobe software for creating pdfs. If you do not own Acrobat that it would be best to check in a Microsoft forum on how to use Word to create pdfs.

  • Can't print PDF's ...word and excel will print

    Hi There,
I am going round in circles trying to fix a bug with my Acrobat Reader 11.0.09 for weeks now, it all started when updated software was installed.
I have de-installed AC many times, cleanup all system files etc and reinstalled AC time and time again.
Now I get a message " An unimplemented or obsolete function was called " and no updates can be installed.
All printing from AC doesn't work, but every other program I use the printer works fine so its only related to AC. The printer button apears but clicking it doesn't trigger a reaction
Printer is a new HP laser printer and I am running OS X Yosemite on my Imac.
Please advise what I need to do...

    Hi Anthony,
You might want to refer the Kb for printing troubleshooting: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-pdf-printing-acrobat-reader.html
When do you get the error- " An unimplemented or obsolete function was called "...?
Have you tried downloading the update manually and install from: Adobe - Acrobat : For Macintosh
If it fails please provide me the logs from this location :
    "/var/log/install.log"
You can also reach to the destination from Console Utility, after launching console utility, you'll find that on the left hand panel there is one tree like structure- /var/log, on scrolling down you will find install.log. Right click on it there select option "Reveal in Finder".

  • Copying text from PDF created using print to PDF function in OS X

I use a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
For some reason when I use the Print to PDF function to export a PDF of a Word document, then open it with Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro 9 and try to select text and copy it then paste it into a word processor (include Word 2008) the resulting text is gibberish. It looks like some sort of encoding issue, but I can't understand that, since it's all happening on the same Mac! I have also tried to do this with Preview as the PDF reader but I still get gibberish.
The issue first started occuring with Snow Leopard, and all software is patched, but no dice.
I've attempted to work around this by using all of the different PDF options under the print dialog, and by saving the doc as a PDF, but I still get the same thing.
I've also tried copying and pasting the text int Pages, then saving it as PDF and trying to ready it .. again, no luck.  I was able to output the file directly from Pages to Preview and save it from there, but it really doesn't seem like this should be necessary, given that the functionality is build into the OS.
Anybody else have experience with this? I have just one user that needs to copy and paste text from the doc, so it's a real pain to have to maintain separate PDF and Word versions.
    Thanks!
    D

    Rishi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?

  • How to save .pdf file using office word and excel

Can someone help me how to save .pdf files using office word and excel?  I reinstalled my adobe 7.0 pro in my new pc and before I was able to do it but with my old pc.

For anything after Office 2003, you have to print to the Adobe PDF printer. If you installed AA 7 on OS newer than XP, you may have to do a workaround to get it to work. With later versions of WORD you can always use the MS plugin for creating PDFs.

  • How to print a pdf file of compounds A3 and A4 with adobe mac

how to print a pdf file of compounds A3 and A4 with adobe mac, windows with the option I choose paper source by PDF page size mac but I can not find it. how to get it thank you

I think if you use the start-command, the execution is asynchronously and you won't get the correct process-id. Try to execute Acorbat directly without the cmd /c start in front of it.

  • Cannot print a pdf doc. No problem with others

Hello, I have a Canon MX860 wireless printer. I can print anything EXCEPT pdf docs. I had this same problem with other printers connected to my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

I think we need to know what Sibleyfam is using as a PDF reader. I have had difficulties printing PDFs using Adobe Reader to various HP LaserJets but if I open the files using Preview they print without any problem at all. Right-click or Control-click on the PDF icon and select the Open With option... then slide across to the available applications and select Preview... if, of course, the document was opening in Adobe Reader previously. If it won't print from Preview it could be a postscript error generated by a bad font in the PDF. Opening the file in Photoshop or similar so you are, effectively, rasterizing the font data may solve the problem if a dodgy font is the issue. Converting the file to Postscript should also produce the same fix though I just 'printed' a PDF as a .ps file and the text was still selectable making me think that the font problem (if it is this) will not disappear after the conversion.
I hope this helps eliminate something even if it doesn't solve your problem.

my 3210 will not print in pink/magenta.  photos and other pictures print in green tones.  i've seen posts clear back from 2011 with no replies or solutions.  if this is hp's definition of product support, i will be sure to choose a different manufacturer when purchasing my next printer ... which will be SOON.

  • I'm affraid I lost my "Word" document of 30 pages. I can see only stars, squares and other strange figures. How can I recover this? Please I need help!!!

I need help! My daughter is busy with her final studyprogram. Her "word" document changed into stars and other strange figures. Is there a possibility to recover this. I hope someone can help her!!!! thanks jvdharst

Are you using the latest version of MS Word?  It’s possible you can restore the corrupt file from the last saved version or the automatically saved version.  Have you tried that?  MS Word uses a folder called Autorecover to store temporary versions of your file.  Hopefully there’s a good version in that folder.  Use Finder to search for Autorecover if needed.

  • In Word and others, when I tip, regularly the focus quits the present window and i can't no more tip verry perturgbating

In Word and other programs -  even in Safari - when I tip, the focus is suddently somewhere else and I tip nothing more.
Extremely annoying: I have to tip twice the same things!
the pointer of the mouse is also erratic

Sorry, i wanted to write ' type ': when i type In word suddenly the pointer is somewhere else and i have to click in the windows to get the focus. Very annoying and Time consuming. I become crazy with this.

  • Problems with print to pdf with Acrobat Pro 9 and FireFox 8

***The page I am using for my base is: http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/2010/12/google-ebooks.html
***I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and FireFox 8 installed.
The problem with FireFox is when I select a part of a web page and try to print that selected text the first line gets chopped, if the text is small the first line might even be missing completely.  Perhaps it is a margin issue but not sure how to modify this.
I know I am not being very clear but if anybody has any ideas or would like further info please let me know.
    Thank you.

I suspect if you do the same process with a print to paper, you will get the same result. I got the same result with SeaMonkey, but IE8 printed the full font to a PDF. That would suggest it is not Acrobat, but the browser. As I said, suggests, so be careful about drawing your conclusions.

  • PDF's missing random words

I'm a college student who uses Safari to do alot of online readings for classes. I've looked through many of these threads but haven't found anyone with this same problem.
At times when I'm using preview to look at pdf's, words will just randomly be missing. It's the strangest thing... Where the word should be, there's just a blank spot. It's only with certain pdf's and it's by no means a majority of the words, but it's incredibly frustrating and sometimes it causes problems.
I've found that I can copy and paste the sections into Word and the words will appear, but with some articles being more than 50 pages, this is hardly practical.
Any help would be much appreciated

I'm just guessing, but it seems Safari doesn't know how to 'handle' the word. Maybe the originator applied a 'style' to the word(i.e., italics, ligature) or copied and pasted the word from another document to the pdf picking up some hidden code or 'formatting' that are embedded in the document that Safari doesn't 'know' how to read. This is unusual and I've never run across it. Can you download the file to Preview and see if it's read there? Right click on the pdf or Control click to bring up contextual menu to download file. Or use Adobe Reader if Preview doesn't work because I think Safari uses Preview to read pdfs(not sure).

  • Firefox crashes when opening PDF, Word and other files

Recently, Firefox stopped being able to open PDF files within the Firefox program. It crashes whether one tries to have it open the file or just download it. The same occurs when trying to open a Word doc. It does this in safe mode too. Since I am studying for a college degree and use these features a lot, I've had to stop using Firefox. This is a problem, because my university uses Firefox for its classes and other programs aren't as compatible. I've tried EVERYTHING suggested on line, both in Firefox help pages and in user pages. Nothing works.

Fix the [http://browser.iyogi.com/firefox/firefox-not-opening-pdf.html '''PDF not opening in Mozilla Firefox'''] issue by reinstalling Adobe Reader. You need to uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install it to get the issue fixed. It is important to uninstall all versions of Adobe Reader that you may have in your system. Also, take care of installing the latest Adobe Reader for the browser.

  • Problem with very sloooow printing of pdfs in Acrobat 7 Pro and 9 Pro

Some pdfs print with no problem but others are painfully slow. We find that some that are slow with Adobe 7 Pro print fine with Adobe 9 Pro, while others are slow with Adobe 9 Pro but print fine with Adobe 7 Pro. Still others are slow with both. A huge productivity problem for us. Any suggestions? Thanks.

when you get to the print screen it looks fine on the page, I've tried all the other options for scaling and when it prints it prints really tiny in the middle of the page. I have the paper set to letter. I did't see any options about shrinking the print.
