Print to PDF: won't open in Adobe Reader, but will in Preview

Subject says it all.
I use "Save as PDF" from an application and the resulting file does not open/display properly using Adobe Acrobat, but it opens and displays just great using Preview.
Dubya-tee-eff ?
Here is the offending PDF

What kind of file is produced directly, before using Save as PDF in the Printer dialogue?
I am not certain I understand the question. This app prints calendars. I hope to use the print-driver's "Save to PDF" feature to produce PDF's. The app prints. The options in the print dialog determine if it goes to the printer or the disc.

  • PDF won't open with Adobe Reader

I have Windows 7 OS, after an update several months ago, I cannot open any PDF's in Internet Explorer.  It opens fine in Firefox and Chrome.  I've tried to uninstall and re install the Adobe Reader, but still doesnt open in Internet explorer

Please right click the Adobe Reader icon, and in the properties dialog box. Click on the "Compatiablity" tab and check the Run this program in compatiblity mode with Windows XP. Click on "Apply" and OK
Now launch IE11 to view any PDFs, see if that works.

  • PDF won't open in AI CS2, but will in CS; error message

My colleague and I are trying to determine the cause of an issue which arose yesterday in the middle of production of a corporate proposal. A PDF document submitted by the client had a form page to be filled out. Since it was evidently a PDF made from scans of the original, non-PDF document--possibly 6-7 years old--we elected to open it in Illustrator, type in data in text box overlays on a separate layer, and save again as a PDF.
Using "open with AI", CS opened, not CS2 (both are loaded on the machine), and brought up an error box called
Illustrator PDF: Warnings / "The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted", and saying "This file was created with an unreleased version of PDF. Unexpected results may occur." The file opens, but the type is illegible at 100% (and clearly pixelated at 400%).
Attempting to open the PDF in Illustrator CS2 by any means produced a blank preview in the page preview box, and, once a page was selected, a blank the page, though the reading progress bar appears briefly.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

PDFs saved from Safari won't open in Adobe Reader - damaged file
    iMac late 2009 8Gb 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo - Safari 6

I encountered the same problem and tried doing what Suzanne did by right clicking the file and saving it to the computer first and then opening it.
And then after double clicking the saved file windows prompted whether I want to open it with the newly installed Adobe reader 9.0 or with Microsoft Word. I chose the Adobe Reader 9.0 and clicked on the check box asking whether we always want to open this type of file using this program.
I managed to open the file and best of all is after that I was able to directly double click on the pdf email attachments to open it.
Seems like that we need to let windows associate the file type with the program first.

If an image opens in a different application but you want it to always open in Preview when you double-click it, do this one time: Control-click the file, let go of the Control key, press the Option key, then choose Always Open With > Preview. Or, select the image file, choose Get Info from the File menu, then change the "Opens with:" pop-up menu choice to Preview.

  • Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?

Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?  I've tried changing "sharing and permissions" to "read and write" as suggested on other help sites, but this did not correct the problem.

I had the same problem---contacted Adobe and their service rep helped me by
    A.   Deleting  Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder
    B.   Downloading Google Chrome browser and then
    C.   Downloading the latest Adobe Reader for Mac 10.6.8 in Google Chrome--it works
Adobe acknowledges problem with the latest Snow Leopard update 10.6.8 and with this work around, I can open PDF's using the Google Chrome Browser.
Is this the ideal solution---NO.  Safari is my main browser. I now have to use a separate browser for PDF's.
Am I happy to be able to open PDF's---YES
You can't believe the time I spent to solve this problem before calling Adobe for help. My Apple Care policy expired a month ago . As I use Photoshop Elements, I was not charged by Adobe for their help on the telephone.

  • How to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

how to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.

  • PDF does not open in Adobe Reader 7

I am working on a  project where we create PDF documents with FOP. The generated PDFs open in  Version 6, 8 and 9 but NOT 7! We get an error
"There was a problem  reading this document(114)" The document is partially rendered and disappears  when you scroll down etc.  I need to know is there a setting specific to Acrobat  7 that is causing this or is there something in the XSL mark-up that Acrobat 7  does not like. I am really under pressure for a fix on this one so any help or  assistance is greatly appreciated.
I have also posted this to the acrobat forum apologies But Desperate!

Apache Fop http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ takes an xml file and combines with an xsl stylesheet to create a PDF. (Although we are using a .net verion FONET). This is a problem with Adobe Reader 7.0. I cannot upload a file since the material is highly confidential (a criminal record!) I can confirm that this has been tested on several machines. The PDF is valid and can be opened in Adobe Reader versions 6, 8, 9 and Foxit but not Reader 7. I can only assume that there is something in the generated PDF that Reader 7 does not like and perhaps this is a bug since the PDF can be opened in earlier and later verions but not 7!

How do I make PDF documents that open in Adobe Acrobat open in Preview?

Hold down the control key and select a file of the given type in the Finder. A contextual menu appears. Release the  control key and hold down the option key. From the contextual menu, select the submenu
              Always Open With
and then the application you want to open all files of that type.

  • Create accessible PDFs that only open in Adobe Reader

Is there a way to create/tag/mark PDFs so that they are forced to use Adobe Reader to open?  Sounds like a stupid question I know but we have a large number of accessible fillable PDF files that are now being opened by the integrated PDF readers in some new web browsers and as a result, we are experiencing issues with their functionality (fields can't be filled in, submit button not working).  All works fine however if we force to open in Adobe reader.  Unfortunately, these forms are used by the public and we have no way to force a PC configuration setting on them to do this as we could if these were only internal to our company. Therefore, we were wondering if there was a way to create the PDF file in such a way that only Reader will open them?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi zee,
When you say the forms are accessible, do you mean fully compliant with WCAG 2.0 guidelines and/or the Matterhorn Protocol compliance criteria for PDF/UA? If you are not sure, that would be my first suggestion. Truly accessible documents *should* work in any of the major browsers. The new PDF/UA Reference Suite includes an example accessible form - Document 10. It is in Danish but the tagging and other accessibility concepts are the same in any language.
    Hope this helps,
    a 'C' student

  • PDF file is distorted when opened in Adobe Reader, but not in Photoshop.

I used Photoshop to create a PSD file with multiple layers, then saved as PDF.  When then using Adobe Reader to open the PDF, the layers look different.  What is causing this and how do you fix?

Never heard of such an issue.  Can you share such a PDF with the forum?  See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1408375

  • Pdf attachments won't open in Adobe Reader 9

After installing Adobe Reader 9, I can no longer open pdf files that come as email attachments. Even attachments I opened two weeks ago no longer open. Error message is from Microsoft Outlook and reads "Application not found." I've found Adobe Reader in my "All Programs" list. After opening the email, I right-click the attachment and save it as a file. Then, I can open Adobe Reader and browse to that file and open it successfully. But NOT by double-clicking the attachment in the email. Any ideas? Thanks!
P.S. I posted this message in the "Adobe Reader 9 Won't Download" then realized it was off topic, so I started another topic. Mea culpa!

  • PDF files won't open with Adobe Reader.

When I double click on a PDF file Adobe Reader opens to a blank screen for a few seconds & then closes.  The same files open fine with Expert PDF software.

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html
