Print to RGB PDF from Freehand

Hi everyone,
I have been trying to work this out for a while but am only a geologist using the software for drafting purposes. I have Freehand MX on Windows XP, with Adobe acrobat 9 installed. When I print to PDF from Freehand it usually converts the colours to CMYK which is expected, but I would like them to remain RGB.
Current Freehand settings:
Output options: All default but I have unticked 'Convert RGB to process'
Raster Effects: Optimal CMYK rendering is ticked but does not appear to make a difference if unticked.
Colour Management: Kodak digital science
Acrobat settings:
I have tried editing the high quality print job options in acrobat distiller to 'Convert all colors to sRGB' and Document rendering intent to 'relative colorimetric'. RGB is sRGB61966-2.1.
The only way I have successfully got to an RGB PDF from Freehand is opening the file in Illustrator CS4, and printing to PDF after telling Illustrator that the file is RGB. The conversion is still not perfect, moving text etc... and is a pain in the **** to be honest but if there was a way to go to RGB PDF from Freehand, that would make my day!
Hope someone can help! Thanks!

I have found only one way to do this. I'm on a Mac, so it may work differently on a PC. I find I must export to an EPS file and Distill.
1. FHMX Color Management set to None. This can be a problem if you normally work with color management on. Colors will shift.
2. Make sure all colors in document, including black and white, are RGB process colors. Use no spot colors, CMYK colors or Pantone library colors.
3. Export to EPS selecting 'convert colors to RGB' option.
4. Set Distiller color settings to 'Leave color unchanged'.
5. Open EPS file in Distiller to create PDF.
6. Open newly created PDF in Acrobat Pro. Colors will match FH RGB colors.

  • Printing to a PDF from Microsoft Word

I need to print to a PDF from Microsoft Word. Is there any way to do so in order to have the hyperlinks in the Word document show up and work in the PDF?

Finally found an answer. The secret is to NOT use the Print function at all, but click the Acrobat Tab in MS Word, then select Preferences and make sure the Links option is ticked, then Click Create PDF. The hyperlinks transfer that way, but not through using Print/Acrobat.

My Acrobat 8 Pro is failing to print to a pdf from multiple software.  I get an error message that a repair fixes but only for a little while.  Pretty soon the trial version of 9 that I installed pops up telling me it has expired but it would take me to a way to buy a valid serial number and then 8 stops working again.  I’d be happy if the 8 I paid for worked right or I could get 9 for a small cost but I cannot afford $450 or $20/month.  I need a permanent solution that I should be already paid for with 8 pro.

After multiple repair procedures with reboot in AA8 I was eventually able to restore the printing to pdf function from various software.  However I have again lost my Acrobat tab in Outlook 2007.  I need that back, but today an even bigger problem arose.  AA8 has stopped printing to fax.  It faxes a blank page.  The only fax printing option is “Microsoft Shared Fax Driver”.  My fax software is “Windows Fax and Scan” and it was working fine just a couple weeks ago.  My OS is Windows 7 Professional.
I have tried doing the updates you referred to but I get error messages like these:
“No qualifying products found to apply this update, or update has been already applied”
    or
“The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing , or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.”

"Print" probably won't work for a pdf file. As the HOST command try:

This may help, but I do note that the printer you state is NOT on the airprint list. You may need to go to the app store and see if Canon has an app that will facilitate printing on a non AirPrint device.

  • Printing pdfs from FreeHand 8 w/color fill patterns

When I export a freehand drawing with colored fill patterns to pdf using export or distiller, it looks correct in Acrobat 8 professional and reader, but it doesn't print the fill patterns in color. They come out black & white. I don't want to use a PS printer since most of the people I send the pdfs to don't have postscript. This didn't happen with earlier versions of Acrobat. Any ideas to fix this problem?

    Lauren,
This is best asked in the Freehand forum (if you want help with your
export) or the Acrobat forum. This forum is for problems with using
Reader, not in creating pdf files. When you repost, describe your
workflow explicitly together with settings for pdf export or print
settings and Distiller settings. Posting a sample pdf and freehand file
to illustrate the problem would help as well.

I am on a Mac running OS X version 10.8.5 and Safari version 6.1.2.  I am using the website www.wordle.net, which uses a Java applet to create a Wordle. Help!  I want to make Wordles for the teachers at my kids school for Teacher Appreciation Week.

    YES!!!!!!!
I was pulling my hair out last night over this. I noticed the Find function was not working properly. I KNEW there was something in the PDF and Preview was not showing it. I spent 2 hours trying to find someone with a similar Find function problem, but could not find much. Also, it could not copy and paste text. I KNOW it worked before because I had taken notes on this particular PDF and had copy and pasted whole paragraphs for myself into Pages. Which is what got me searching online tonight.
I re-downloaded the same PDF. When first opened in Preview, the Find and copy/paste functions worked. Same thing in Acrobat reader and Acrobat Pro. After confirming this, I re-opened it in Preview, highlighted some text and closed. It asked to Save Changes and I did. I immediately re-opened it, and guess what? Find no longer works and neither does copy/paste. Just to be sure, I tried re-opening in Acrobat reader and Pro; same thing. No copy/paste, corrupted Find feature. Well, copy/paste sort of functions, its just that it pastes a square with an alien head in it that says "Private Use 100000 Plane 16".
And finally, on some PDFs that have not even been saved in Preview, the Find function is not working properly also. It happened on the re-downloaded PDF I just talked about. It finds many instances of the word, bit the left and right arrows next to "Found on X# Pages are greyed out and do not move through the document. Once I go to the left pane that displays page thumbnails and click on a few different ones, THEN it starts working.
So yes, Apple, Preview is corrupting PDF files upon save, AND it is not working properly on other files. Please fix this. PLEASE.
And my specs are the same as Gary; iMac 27 inch Late 2009, Yosemite 10.10.1. Is ANYONE else having this issue with a different Mac?

  • Cannot print or save pdf from Safari

When I try to open a page in preview from Safari to save it to my document management program or print it from Preview, I get the error message "Error in printing".  Any thoughts?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI printed to blank PDF from Brava Reader v7.3 on a paper size 100mm x 3000mm

I am on Adobe Acrobat XI and am having trouble printing to PDF from Brava Reader v7.3 to a paper size 100mm x 3000mm. The output is a blank PDF to the given paper size.  I was able to print with image from Brava Reader v7.2.  However, when I installed a freeware PDF995, it allows me to print to this paper size (albeit with only 600DPI - too low resolution).  What is the problem with Adobe Acrobat?  Please help?

  • Exporting to PDF from Freehand error

    Hi,
I have been trying to export a freehand presentation to a PDF file, i have tried to do a simple export aswell as printing to PDF, in both cases the resulting PDF file becomes disconfigured with Text comming out of the background boxes. however if i print to a normal printer all seems to be ok. Does anybody know if I need to do anything special in the configuration so that this does not happen?
    Thanks

here is the print screen of the three results, the original file as seen in freehand, the exported PDF with the original font (District - thin) and an alternative export with a different font. i see that it is a problem with the font but this particular project requires the font from the District family.
I find that it will be easier to unlink the text and insert each block of text in it's own text box, convert to curves and then export the entire document again, though this also does have certain issues as all of the "l" in th document seem to appear in bold. It is a bit of a pain but i guess that there will always be certain incompatabilities between programmes.
    Thanks for your help:)

  • When printing to Adobe PDF from Microsoft Publisher, the text on page 2 is not 100% black

    Hi there
I'm using Microsoft Publisher 2013 to print to an Adobe PDF file (I have a trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.)
I sent the PDF to my printing house but they can't print it because the text on page 2 is not 100% black. In Publisher, the text colour on both pages is CMYK 0/0/0/100.
I created a test file in which I copied the text from page 1 onto page 2 so both pages are identical. However, the PDF created from that file, when I click Print Production, Output Preview and de-select Process Black, all the text on page 1 disappears (as expected) but none of the text on page 2 disappears! It seems that Publisher and/or Acrobat is printing the text on page 1 correctly but not page 2. Does anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong?
Here's a link to the two files: Dropbox - ShareAdobeComm
Would much appreciate some help if anybody can please point me in the right direction. Thank you.
(I'm seriously evaluating upgrading from my current 3rd party PDF writer to Adobe.)

Do not use the PDF Maker, but print to the Adobe PDF printer and see if that meets you need. If you need some of the tools of PDF Maker, then turn on only those you need, not them all. Check to be sure that the graphics are indeed being downsampled and possibly go back and reduce the graphics you have in the WORD file so that you are at least not using millions of colors, 256 max. Also consider using straight B&W if color is not needed, or at least gray-scale.

  • Cannot print to Adobe PDF from InDesign CS4 under Snow Leopard (10.6.2)

    Hello All,
Hopefully the subject line says all. Running SL and CS4, and after manually deleting the "old" Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, I am unable to print to PDF — or select "Save As Adobe PDF" under the Mac OS print dialog. This is insanely frustrating on may levels, as this was once a 3-minute operation and now has stretched into two days of futile searching for a solution.
There is a "tech doc" somewhere out there that offers a "solution". But beware, as it has not worked for me. Once you manually search for and remove the Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, you are supposed to magically be able to select the "Save As Adobe PDF" option. This is not the case for me.
Am trying to print, once again, from InDesign CS4 (NOT via the Export command as that will not allow me to set page size, or print separations). There is no Adobe PDF driver there anymore and there is no option to print PDFs. Of course, I can rest easier with the knowledge that everything is easier now in SL.

For a long time I was printing out of InDesign CS4 to a PS file and Distilling to a PDF, either composite or separated. Then Snow Leopard came along and that workflow seemed no longer available. It seems some well meaning people didn't understand a professional DTP workflow.
I had to work between two Macs to create a project and then make separations.
Eventually I went back to the Adobe InDesign forums and folks insisted that a Adobe PDF 9 printer should be available in my print drivers.
On that suggestion I completely uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and then reinstalled it.
It worked, I had the PDF printer back and can now print to a postscript file and do separations as I always have.
(Another story is that Snow Leopard killed my Epson 2200 printer)
At one stage I did an update of Acrobat 9 and it caused me to lose the Adobe printer again. Going through the procedure again brought it back and this time after a Acrobat 9 update it stuck.
In my opinion somebody screwed up. It's not enough to be able to create PDFs out of Microsoft Word. There are people out here trying to make a living and need to be able to create print separations for some offset printers.

  • When i print to adobe pdf from word the document isn't saved anywhere

I have installed the trial version of adobe acrobat xi pro so that I can print to pdf. I have successfully done this from email etc but it will not work in word. I go to print document select adobe pdf as printer and it comes up with the save window I create a file name and that file is then nowhere to be found at all. I have run search on the whole hard drive and I am choosing where I want the file as normal and it is definitely not there. Using a PC running windows 7

Did you pay attention to the path of the save window? Is it possible there is a log file instead, that likely gives information on why the PDF is not created?
Try printing to file in WORD (please pay attention to the folder when you do this). The file created is a PS file, probably with a PRN extension. Then start Distiller and open the file in Distiller. Do you get errors or is the PDF created? If a PDF is created, then it is likely that you have not enabled AcroTray that should be running in the background. What version of Acrobat are you using? There may be an issue with the version.

  • Printing to acrobat pdf from other application in Leopard

    Hi,
I've upgraded to Leopard and to Adobe CS3. Whenever I want to print from any application to Acrobat pdf (for instance from Word 04), the acrobat printer pauses and the pdf is not created.
Is this one of the known issues that will be fixed when Adobe releases the Leopard-proof update of CS3?

Is the ESR version of Mozilla Firefox?  If not, then try that version to see if the issue persists.

  • I am experiencing trouble print to a PDF from Autocad

When I attempt to print my Autocad drawing to a PDF file, I either get a partial or no image in the PDF. Problem seems to be getting worse with time, maybe just my aggravation kicking in.

Autocad is always going to have problems with pdfs files because they are based on different models. Autocad is based on output to plotters (I discovered this in college, when my carefully reconstructed grateful dead printed out withou any fills) Autodesk and Adobe have a different theory when it comes to stokes and fills and curves. I used to get a lot of images in from engineers in Autocad (theses days they just steal jpgs off of the internet) I would open the Autocad images in Illustrator and fix them up, cleaning up redundant lines, fixing stroke weights of 0 or ridiculously low numbers, replacing 40 sided figures with circles to get to an image that would print to PostScript.
