Printer 5520

We have HP Allinone 5520 printer which we use for our main home PC (windows 8) and laptop (windows 7), it has worked fine until this last week where the main home PC (windows 8) now states
Error printing on HP (network) printer is in an error state.
We've gone through the step by step approach to resolve the issues and done everything from using the scan Doctor to reinstalling the software from scratch.  It indicates that the printer is offline, however, we can still successfully print from the laptop - so we know the printer is working, we've even compared the device information on both PC and laptop and they are both reading the same - however, we cannot print from the main computer.
We've spent probably 10 hours plus on this issue this week - can anyone give us an idea of what the problem is as frustrated doesn't even come close!

Hi @CelticAngel,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you cannot print from your main computer running Windows 8 to your HP Photosmart 5520. I am happy to help you!
Please take a look through this printer is offline guide. 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print: Windows 8.
Hope this guide will help you, and thank you for posting!

  • My HP 5520 is printing smeared photos on the paper sent. It is glossy, should it be matt finish

    HP Printer 5520
    Windows 7
Printer is smearing all the photos printed. Is is the gloss paper, and should it be matt finish

    Hi Rando56,
Glossy photo paper is the correct paper to use. Here are a couple links to the HP recommended photo paper to use with this printer:

    and

I have seen this issue happen when the photo paper is inserted upside down. Try turning the paper over and let me know if that helps.

  • Print from ipad3 to hp air printer?

I am struggling to print from my ipad3 to my new hp air printer (5520) despite being connected wirelessly from my ipad and my printer is connected and prints from my pc. Any ideas how I can print from my ipad? Thank you.

    Good news and bad news:
With this as one option for my printer
    ColorModel/Color Model: *RGB RGBW
    This command
    lpoptions -d HP_Deskjet_F4200_series -o ColorModel=RGBW
does change the lpotion output to
    ColorModel/Color Model: RGB *RGBW
Notice the asterisk switched from RGB to RGBW
The bad news is if the option as reported by lpoption only has one setting it can;t be changed (at least I wasn;t able to). So in my case the  paperfeed is
    HPPaperSource/Source: *Tray1
and no matter what I tried I could not switch it to anything else.
So even if this is the source of your printers behavior there may not be anything you can do about it, at least from this point.
It is odd that the printer would only have a manual feed option as reported by CUPS. The printer does work normally from the GUI, correct? And there are no switches/settings on the printer for this?
Something else to try, as a test, is to connect the printer directly to the system and see if anything changes. I know with my printer hooked up through the Airport I cannot get to the ink levels and such or run any maintenance commands. I have to directly connect it to do that.
    Sorry I don;t have more,
    regards

  • Photosmart printer -all-in-one 5520 and windows 8.1 - INSTALLATION ERROR

I have a photosmart printer - model: all-in-one 5520; code number HPC57CC4  and my operating system is windows 8.1.
I had problems with the scan function and so I decided to disinstal the printer (from the Control Panel) and I even cancelled  the HP folders.
Then I tried to reinstal the printer with the original CD but I got the message: INSTALLATION ERROR - DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALL GIVES THE ERROR -536870329 FOR THE PACKAGE  C:\Program Files\HP\HP Photosmart 5520 series\DriverStore\Pipeline\hpvpl09.inf   (that's the translation from Italian)
I have tried endless times to install with the online software from the HP assistance (hppsdr.exe, hppiw.exe, ps5520_1315-1.exe, hpscan and doctor) but I always get the above error message, the system recognizes my printer, but gives the error message few seconds after starting installing it.
If i use the printer from other PCs it's ok, I've also tried both in the wireless modality and with the USB cable but the result is the same: no installation!
thanks in advance fot your help.

    Hi Duffynicol,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPad and your printer. From your description of the issue, it sounds like your printer may have become disconnected from your WiFi network (BT?). my wireless hp photosmart 5520 all-in-one printer will print from my wireless laptop, but it no longer connects to the internet. I cannot download apps. i ran a wireless network test and everything is good, except for the internet (not connected) what can i do

    Hi Lars,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems connecting your printer to the internet.
I have included a document about maintaining wireless connectivity.  Please follow the steps in "Solution two: Assign the printer a static IP address".  When you reach the steps about setting the DNS servers, for the Preferred DNS server please use 8.8.8.8 and for the Alternate DNS server please use 8.8.4.4.   These are Google's DNS servers. Once you have set the manual ip and dns servers, please try to enable web services. It should go through.

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Windows XP Windows shuts down IE & can't print from e-mail

installed new 5520 last weekend.  windows keeps shutting down IE.  went through windows suggestions.  says it is due to smartprint.  I do not need smartprint or e-print, just want to print from my laptop.  Can I uninstall smartprint and e-print and just use regular printing?  Also, I can't print from e-mail.  I can print everything else except from e-mail.  Anyone know how to correct this?

I am linking you to a video on removing Smart Web Printing.

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Unable to communicate with printer

I have had a HP Photosmart 5520 for a few months that I am NEVER able to print wirelessly from Windows 7 PC's after it has been sitting idle for a period of time.
When the printer is first powered on everything works great.   I have two HP Win7 laptops that will both print to it with no issues.   However, if the printer has been powered on for some time and I try to print from either of these PC's, I get the "Unable to Communicate with the Printer"  message below from the printer software running on the PC.
However, the printer appears to be working fine on the network for every other debug test I do while it is in this state.  For example, if I open a command shell on the same PC and ping the pinter IP, it responds just fine.  I also put the known IP address in a browser window and the printer serves up the status page with no issues.  The status page confirms the IP address is correct and says that everything is working fine from a connectivity standpoint (see pics below).  Still, it won't print.
If I simply turn the printer off and then turn it back on, all pending jobs are printed.  Any subsequent jobs that are printed also print w/o issue.  However, if the printer sits idle for a short period of time it is right back in the same state!  Please help, this is very frustrating!!
The behavior is the same if I (1) let my router DHCP server assign an IP address, (2) configure the DCHP server to always provide the same IP address to the printer MAC (which it was doing anyway), or (3) configure the printer to use a static IP address.
I am using a Netgear WNDR3700v2 wireless router firmware v1.0.0.36 (the latest).   Details about the printer, printer firmware version, printer network setup can be found below.

I changed two settings related to WLAN inside my router (see detailed feedback below).   I doubt that they will have an impact,, but will report back with what happens.
The reason I do not think it is related to the connection to the printer is becuase when it is in a state where the PC can't print to the printer, I verify the connection is OK by pointing by browser to the ip of the printer.  It works just fine....
The reason I don't thing there is anything set up wrong on my PC is because when it is in this "bad" state, I can simply power cycle the printer and the jobs stuck in the PC print spool all go through.
    1.  Set a static IP in the printer (see step 6) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
Previously tried (still configured this way)
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
Previously tried (still configured this way)
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    Changed this.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
I don't know what this is.  Is it related to the Wireless throughput? (I have 2.4Ghz bans set "up to 54Mbps", 5Ghz band set to "up to 300Mbps")
     5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    Already using this configuration
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    Already using this configuration
     7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    Changed this.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 5 mins.  Power on router wait 3 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) \ Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.
    Confirmed it was already ON
