Printer replacement for OS 8.6 Mac..Help needed

Hi, I have a Beige G3 which I've kept as a stand-alone dedicated OS 8.6 system
for the purpose of maintaining tons of stuff initially created in OS 8 over the
years. I've run a workhorse HP Laserjet 4ML for print output on this since the
early 90s and the printer died yesterday...
I am in immediate need of a replacement..something that'll connect via the old
appletalk/ADB... preferably an HP.. and able to run on 8.6 like the 4ML.
I am really in a bind as this is still very much an active computer and we suddenly have no print capability on it. Any suggestions on a reasonable and available candidate to fill the bill or otherwise alternative ideas on workarounds? (The 4ML is definitely toast and likely not worth repair)
Any advice hugely appreciated!
Typically do modest amount of print volume on this machine...prefer laser,
good 600 dpi output would be fine for some graphic layouts..and monochrome is
also preferred.
Thanks!
Mike S.

The Ethernet port on your Mac is like a highway, in that lots of different kinds of traffic can use it to get where they are going essentially at the same time, without interfering with each other. There is no conflict with running your printer over Ethernet. The problem is that Ethernet is point-to-point, so you need a device that can repeat the traffic out onto additional ports (one of which will connect to your printer). The original device that did that function was called a Hub, but no one should pay money for a Hub today.
The much superior method for connecting Ethernet segments to each other is a Switch. This device has enough intelligence to read the envelopes that messages are sent in, discard any bad ones, and send the rest in the direction where those recipients have answered before. It is sometimes called store-and-forward, but that is not a wonderfully descriptive term because the storage is only momentary.
An even smarter device is a Router, possibly with Switch function built-in. A Router keeps local traffic local, and acts as your agent in forwarding packets to the Internet and receiving replies on your behalf. It intervenes in the packet addresses and keeps you local IP address secret from the rest of the Internet.
Executive summary: Many different functions can share your Ethernet connection without interfering with each other.

  • EDI IDOC generation for interface with Vendor software help needed.

    EDI IDOC help needed.
We are NOT an EDI shop, but have a project to output data to Sales Force.com
Sales Force requests IDOC output - eg. 810 Outbound Invoice.
We will need to do a historical load of Orders/Quotes/Invoices from the past 2 years.
Is there a function module or series of FM's that are used to generate the E2EDKxxxxx type segments?
I have been testing using the IDOC_OUTPUT_INVOIC and IDOC_OUTPUT_ORDRSP FM's, but they generate segments begining with E1EDKxxxxx.
Basicall we have a report program that the user enteres in the date range of Order/Quotes/Invoices they wish to extract, the the program needs to output a flat file (.txt) on the server which is then picked up by Sales Force.com.
Also, is there a way to have in the Partner Profile a generic Partner under the "Type KU" that can be used for all orders/invoices so I don't have to create a KU Partner Type for each and every Sold-To customer we have?
I am very new to EDI so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Scott.

    Hi Scott,
We will need to do a historical load of Orders/Quotes/Invoices from the past 2 years.
I know it's very tempting to use an interface for such loads if you anyhow have to create one. However, often the volume alone speaks against interface usage for such scenarios.
Well, the E2* segments basically reflect the external name of the IDoc segment, whereas the function modules you're referring to basically just create an internal version of the IDoc. Once the IDoc framework then passes the IDocs to the partner, the segment names usually (depends on how the IDocs are passed on) get converted to their external name. If there are multiple versions of a segment, then the version number will be appended to the segment name.
Note that IDoc segment definitions are only partially stored in the data dictionary. If you want to see all versions you should always use transaction WE31 to look at segments. There you can also see for example for E1EDK01 the several versions and when you then use in SE37 function module SEGMENT_EXTERNAL_NAME_GET you will see what SAP produces as the external name for segment E1EDK01. This function module is basically the one that handles the segment name translations.
Ignore the comments for subsystem, this is basically an option in SAP to possibly trigger further external tools (e.g. mapping etc.) for handling the outbound IDocs.
Again, the funny thing is that via the WE30 transaction, if i put in INVOIC02 as the Obj. name and see the segments, i can see that E2EDK01 there is a version 005, but if i go to SE11 and put in E2EDK01005 structure line and i get a "not found". We just have up to E2EDK01002.
In the old days SAP used to generate E1, E2 and E3* structures in the data dictionary (SE11). The E1* structure reflected the character type representation of an IDoc segment, whereas the other two (definition and documentation) contained actual references to data elements (e.g. if you used a quantity field). However, in newer releases those dictionary structures (E2* & E3*) are no longer generated, because they're superfluous (meta data defined via WE31 is sufficient).

  • Pushing for IP telephony...Help needed

    Hi...
I am trying to convince our management to deploy VoIP and reduce heir spending for Legacy PBX systems. I was able to get their approval to install Cisco ip telephony products in a limited area & limited budget, probably to test the solution.
I need help with design and product selection in order to make this a success.
The area (building/company) where I am planning to deploy IP telephony was recently acquired by our company. It is located 300m away from us so probably we will be connecting it to our LAN(either fiber or wireless). The building has a meium sized PBX (approx. 200 extensions). After the acquisiton there were plans to have a tie line between our PBX and the acquired one, but those plans were scratched since the latter broke down (and I got my chance). Since not many employees remain in the acquired building, the number of extensions required is around 30.
I got a suggestion from a Cisco Partner and would like to know your comments:
    - VG248 Analogue Gateway
    - 2821 with CCME (48 phones), 2 x 4port VIC FXO (universal), 2 x channel packet voice/fax dsp module, 1 x Ip communications high density digital Voice NM with 1 T1/E1
The idea is to use the existing telephones in order to keep cost minimum.
    - I would like to know that if we have 6 direct lines (PSTN) that will terminate on the FXO, there would be no need for an E1 line hence no need for the 2821 E1 card, right?
    - Will the caller ID function on the existing phones using this design?
    - Any comments on the solution provided?
    Regards,
    Taco

CCME does not support VG248. Check this link under Restrictions for Analog phones.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps4625/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00805b21ba.html#wp1059308
An alternate would be to use a VG224 (for 24 ports) and a EVM on the 2821.
The EVM base board supports 8 FXS and you can add a 6 port FXO module. That should meet your requirements.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps3115/products_data_sheet0900aecd8016c1c6.html
    To answer your questions
    1. Yes, you are right. Since your PSTN lines are all FXO's, you don't need the E1 card.
    2. Caller ID is supported in VG224 as well as EVM

  • Can't add printer driver for Deskjet 1010 on Mac OS 10.9.5

I have installed the printer driver on my Mac Mini running 10.7.5 with almost no issue (well, one of the first printouts actually crahsed Preview, but that was only once and might be another issue) and it print well and fast. But now I try to add this printer to my MB Pro running 10.9.5 and it always croaks that the software can't currently be loaded from the server (since 2 days now).
I guess it means my Mac Mini which likely only has drivers for the oder OS X. I also tried to install the drivers directly (downloaded from Apple's support pages) but still to no avail. I always get that ghastly message.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I said (or meant) that I plugged the printer in the USB port of my MacBook. This made OSX to install the appropriate drvers. I think I also used the supplied CD with HP drivers to complete the installation. I'm pretty sure you can find the driver itself somewhere on a HP site for download. Sorry, but I have no idea where. I just remember searchng for drivers in the past. And most times it was a PITA :-(

  • Replacement for classic on PPC Macs

Since classic is dead in 10.5 I was wondering if anyone knows of any other compatibility layer/virtualization/emulation software for running OS 9 programs? I don't really need an emulator since my laptop is a PPC machine.

Keep Tiger on a bootable clone or second internal drive.
My G5 has Tiger on one drive, Leopard on the other.
Your PPC can still boot into OSIX, right? You are just concerned with no support in a virtual environment.
Just save the Tiger on another drive.

  • Fan replacement for MDD | Amount of airflow really needed?

    Hi,
I am thinking to replace my noisy PSU fans with new ones. However, those old Delta Fans seems to have pretty... high-end specs what comes to airflow (38 CFM) and therefore the noise level (47dba). I have been working with computers pretty long time and I have never seen a computer which actually needs that much cooling just for PSU so I think that less is better in this case.
I thought that I replace them with 12 CFM fans (with only 20 dba each) or then again I am looking an alternative methods to create a somekind of airtunnel into that PSU by adding second cooler + pipe to the front of PSU. Is there anyone who has actually modded this PSU with this level before?
Also I am thinking to replace that 120mm cooler with 50-60 CFM cooler.
Howabout adding small cooler to the CPU heatsink?
... Desperate? **** yeah. I could use my MDD to blow leaves from my front yard!

If you aren't using NAP mode, I certainly recommend it in order to get that baseline temperature down. My MDD 'idles' i.e. email/web at around 39 degrees C. And for me, it has not introduced any instability.
I also applied the fan kernal extension mod (see URL below) which spins up the main fan at a lower threshold:
    http://homepage.mac.com/paul74/MDDFanExtensionMod.htm
The extension mod doesn't let my MDD go above 56 degrees C and having the quieter Panaflo means I barely notice the difference anyway. This only tends to happen if I'm doing something CPU intensive like video transcoding using Handbrake.
Further improvements I've recently undertaken are:
    1. Replacement of the passively cooled Radeon 9600 Pro with an Nvidia 7800 GS (BFG). While this has a fan, it only spins at full whack during boot and then calms down - it isn't noticable during normal operation.
    2. Replaced the original IBM system HDD with a 'whisper quiet' Seagate (or WD - I forget which). I did this as the original IBM was pretty noisy - something you only notice once you've got rid of most of the fan noise.
    3. Flipped over the PCI slot cooler. The intake for this was on the top. I removed the body from the metal slot mount and turned it around so that rising hot air is more likely to be captured. It is definitely pushing out hot air now.
I still plan to make a few further changes. I recently moved the speaker (now fixed to the interior 'ceiling' using bluetac). Considering mounting a fan where the speaker used to be to suck air in for the PSU and graphics card intakes.
I'm also still considering some exit fans between the CPU heatsink and the rear case.
Regarding the optical drives, I removed the stock combo and replaced it with a dual layer DVD/RW taken from a Lacie external FW unit I used previously with my eMac. I kept the original in a safe place in case I ever need it though!
In terms of OS X support for third party optical drives, I hear cough that it may be possible to update the firmware so that it is cough cough seen as a Superdrive. Thats just what I hear anyway.

  • First time trying to use Back To My Mac - help needed

    Hi
I'm a first time user of Back To My Mac.
At home I believe I have correctly set up my Time Capsule (my main router) and my Mac Mini (running Yosemite) with Back To My Mac. I did test it before I left home (using my iPhone as a hotspot) and thought that everything was ok.
Now I am away from home when I try to log in using my wife's MacBook Air (also running Yosemite) I can see my Time Capsule but not my Mac Mini.
I think that my MacMini might be asleep but I am sure that I have set it to wake on network access.
Do I need to do something extra to get through to my Mac Mini?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Can't use Bangla font in anti-alias "anti-alias for animation"....help needed!

Hi, the problem I am having with adobe flash pro cs6 is that I am trying to use Bangla font in flash. Although the font shows up but in anti-alias "anti-alias for animation" mode, the fonts become all scattered and disordered. But when I switch to "use device font", the work okay. But in using device font, I cant really use the subscript or superscript button. So then again I have to switch back to "anti-alias for animation". I am getting sick of it. Is there any way around it?
I have added an image for you to understand my query ............

    I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

    Hi,
For loading HALB or FERT items (Materials with Price Control S)
correct way is to run Standard Cost Estimate and then Upload the stock with Qty only , here system will take the Standard price from the material master,
In the a/c entries you have written it appears that Material is of "S" type and price is maintained as 0 (Zero) in master that's why all the Intial stock value has gone on to PRD account,
If you are not using standard Cost estimated (or not in a position to do that) but still have the correct stock qty and value with you, what you should do is :
Change the price control to "V"
Load the stock with qty and value, (system will calculate MAP and update the Material master),and there is no question of hitting PRD account
After all the Stock is uploaded for the material , change the Price Control to "S"
system will take the prevailing MAP at this instant as Standard Price for all future transactions

  • Leopard replacement for Landau's Mac OS X Help Line book?

Can anyone recommend a Leopard replacement for Ted Landau's Mac OS X Help Line? I have the 10.3 and 10.4 versions of this invaluable troubleshooting guide and wanted to recommend the 10.5 version to a friend with that OS, but I just found out that he decided not to update it for Leopard. Would really appreciate knowing about a similar comprehensive, literate, easy-to-understand troubleshooting manual for 10.5, if there is one as good as Landau's. Thanks for any good suggestions!

I'm traveling and haven't had a chance to check it out yet. But I'll look at it as soon as I have a chance to get to a bookstore.
I'm actually trying help out a friend who's just bought her first Mac in about 10 years, after years of working only with Windows--want to save her investing in a bunch of expensive manuals that tell you everything you need to know, occasionally in English, except how to find out what's wrong and fix it, which is the only thing I want to know! I've used Landau's guides for Panther and Tiger, and was dismayed to find out that he didn't feel like rewriting 1200 pages for Leopard. So I'm curious to see the book you recommend, which sounds good--will let you know.

  • Printer help needed from the Apple community

    Hello Apple Community,
Can you help me to print from a new Mac to an old Canon printer?
I'm here in Vietnam (first time in Asia) as a teacher. I have the latest model MBP (running Mac OS X 10.8.4). There's an old Canon that I'm trying to print to. I've Google'd the model number but nothing comes up for Mac. There are sites in the Google search that say they have the software. I'm worried they might be malware sites.
On the back of the printer it says L11121E. But when I connect it (via USB) and open Print & Scan it detects it as a Canon LBP2900.
    I looked here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670 and here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670.
But neither of those links list the Canon L11121E or LBP2900.
When I Google'd "L11121E mac driver" this link came up:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899
Do you think that would work?
I checked for updates from the App Store (and System Preferences Print & Scan) with the USB cable of the printer plugged in. Nothing came back.
I'm a teacher trying to print material for my students. Any help at all would be appreciated.
    Confused,

    Thank you, Linc!
Following the instructions from AlexeyU (thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15765876#15765876) worked!
    AlexeyU's instructions:
    "Try this:
    1) Download & Install official drivers for Lion v3.36 – http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100359005.html
    2) Download & Install this package –http://www.uzhva.com/temp/Canon_LBP3000_to_LBP2900_patcher.zip
    3) Reboot
You probably will need to manually match your printer with LBP 2900 driver from drivers list."
