Printing from windows xp to printer on aeb

I have a network set up using an airport extreme basestation which provides internet access to a powerbook and a pc laptop running xp.
this works flawlessly.
I also have a canon ip3000 printer connected to the basestation which i want to use from both computers.
of course from the mac this was a matter of 2 clicks and it worked.
on the pc, i've spent about an hour going through a gazillion windows, holding the machine's hands every step of the way, downloading drivers it couldn't find and so on. i followed instruction on ifelix http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1004.html step by step. there were no errors while doing this and everything seemed to work.
now when i set the pc to print a test page at the end of the installation process, it does starts spooling and cueing the page and after about 10 seconds complains "the printer is not responding".
meanwhile, the printer _IS responding and is starting to print the page!
windows then decides - obviously after it has sent about a 3rd of the first page - to _re-start printing - this is NOT something i have told it to do - and complains again "printer not responding"...
after about 3 or so attempts, each of just over a 3rd of a page in length, i have 2 pages of garbage and windows claiming that the printer doesn't respond....
does this sound familiar to anyone?
does anyone have any pointers on how to solve this?

was offline for a while - hence the delay in replying to this.
thanks for your help so far
today i reinstalled the printer driver from scratch with the printer connected directly to the computer
Does the printer work correctly when directly connected to the PC?
yes it does. flawlessly.
Are you using the correct driver?
yes and latest version of it - freshly downloaded today from the manufacturers site
It should be noted that some printer drivers were never designed to work unless the printer was connected directly.
the printer in question is a canon pixma ip 3000 - according to the compatibility list on your site it was added by apple as being compatible...
Bonjour/Rendezvous shouldn't make a difference, but you may want to try it.
at least it takes away m$ insanity in installing drivers and proves the point that interface design __can be done properly, even under windoze... :)))
the problem that i have at the moment is as follows;
the printer works perfectly when connected directly to the pc.
when connected to the basestation, i use bonjour to find it and install the printer driver (which was already installed in the system to get the printer working when connected directly to the computer, now i just create a new setup for use with the basestation.)
I click "print test page". the printer starts printing, at about 1/3rd of the page it stops and waits. after a while (between half a minute and one minute) the page is ejected by the printer and it starts a new attempt to print the page - note: i did NOT instruct it to do so after the initial "print test page" click.
this second page is printed till about 60 or 70%, after which a 3rd attempt is made at re-printing the page, this time without a page-feed continuing on the second sheet of paper. at the end of that sheet, the computer complains that the test print has failed. in true windows fashion, it does not provide any feedback of what has actually gone wrong.
somehow i have the idea that the software is expecting some kind of acknowledgment from the printer that it has started or maybe even a progress report at regular intervals. and somehow this doesn't seem to come through...
but this is pure guessing - i have no further data to support this other than the sequence of events described above, which is consistent and repeated at every print attempt
if anyone has any suggestions on what to try next, that would be more than welcome
thanks again

  • Can't print from Windows PC to printer on I-Mac USB over wireless network

I am a brand new Mac user after years of Windows frustration.
Canon i9100 connected to I-Mac via USB. Prints OK from I-Mac. Print share enabled. Windows share enabled.
I-Mac on wireless LAN with static IP addresses for all devices.
Dell Windows XP on same wireless LAN.
    Can ping I-Mac OK.
Added printer on Dell through Windows XP using I-Mac static IP address and I-Mac printer name - installed OK, but will not print.
After hours on Apple Support, found and downloaded Bonjour for Windows and installed on Dell. Ran Bonjour on Dell, installed printer OK, but still won't print from Dell.
Very frustrating and I haven't started on my VPN issues yet - thought Apple would be far simpler.

On Windows, after either method of setup, change the driver (on PC) to Apple Color LaserWriter. Apple print queues expect postscript as input.
If this is unsatisfactory, you can create a RAW queue on the Mac (only for sharing the printer, because it will have no driver associated):

Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?
    a) HP printer with USB port only (no ethernet port) connected to Airport Express
    b) No issue printing from Macs
    Tests
    1) Installed Bonjour 2 - does not find printer (now uninstalled)
    2) Bonjour 3 is listed in programs but no way to access
    3) Using TCPIP address (and no Bonjour) gives 'Unsupported Personality' error when printing test page

p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

  • Can't print from Windows Explorer

After installing the "HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a", on a Windows 7 64-bit PC, that is Ethernet connected, I get the following error message:
    Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 2061
    Char: 1
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
    Code: 0
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js
When I try to print from Windows Explorer; however, I can print from other applications such as Word and Quicken OK, and I can print from Explorer OK from a Windows XP PC. Anyone have any suggestions?

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Can't print from Windows XP

I'm a new Mac user with a MacBook Pro, and found I needed to run Windows for a couple of applications so installed Parallels. All applications run fine, except printing from Windows. Have a Canon Pixma MP480 printer at home, and an HP Deskjet at the office. Both print fine from Mac, but no luck from Windows at all. I've tried to troubleshoot the configuration in Parallels, and everything seems set up correctly as far as I can tell (I'm not very tech oriented, though). I have the feeling that there is something very basic that I have missed. Anyone have thoughts on what it might be?

Please post Parallels related questions on the Parallels forums as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products:

  • Can't print from Windows to Mac

I've always had trouble printing to a printer attached to my Mac from Windows. Bonjour used to see the printer, but I could only occasionally actually print. For a while everything but PDFs worked, then even text stopped. As a last resort I tried the "reset printing system" option in System Preferences and then re-added the printer, but now Bonjour doesn't see it at all. I can browse to it via SMB at \\macname\printername, but all I can do is print a test page as Administrator. Regular print jobs and non-admin test pages just disappear - not in the queue on either client or server. Setting it up as an IPP printer instead didn't help.
I'm at the end of my rope here, and any troubleshooting tips are welcome. I'm an IT guy, so technical details are very welcome: TCP ports to check for listeners on, services to look for, registry settings on the Windows end, anything.
    Details:
    Server:
    Mac OS X 10.6.2
HP Photosmart D7560 printer connected via USB using HP Photosmart driver
    Clients:
Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
All on the same LAN (wireless), no trouble with TCP/IP connectivity (can ssh into the Mac from the Windows boxes, etc). Both Windows Firewall and UAC are turned off on the Vista/7 boxes, guest access is enabled on the Mac in Sharing preferences...
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks!

I followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html and am having the same issue. Whether setting up manually or using Bonjour, it seems that you have to select an Apple Driver. The problem is that the Windows 7 does not provide Apple drivers. Luckily, I have an old XP installation CD so I can access the printer drivers I need, but because I already installed the printer drivers from my printers CD Windows will automatically install with that driver, not giving me the "have disk" option.
So I tried to install with Bonjour again, which allowed me to pull up the drivers from teh XP installation disk, but then gave me an error that I didn't have permissions to install the selected printer.
So I deleted the Canon driver for my printer from Windows 7 and went through the process described at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html again. This time I was able to select the Apple Color Laserwriter printer from the XP installation CD, but I got an error message saying that Windows was unable to find an appropriate driver.
At this point, after a couple hours trying to do a simple file share, which should only take 30 seconds, I'm giving up being able to print to a printer connected to a mac from my Windows 7 laptop. Now I have to open files on the mac from the network file share to print.
Mixed having both Macs and Windows machines on the same network is a recipe for a headache.

  • Can't print from Windows....

Using Windows 7 over Parallels Desktop, I can't print from Windows applications....
The driver was download, but Windows keep asking to connect printer.

    Hi,
since Parallels is not an Apple product it would be better to ask such questions in the Parallels support forum.
    Nonetheless:

solved follow the steps from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CU … er_sharing
then go to localhost:631 and share the printer,
next go to the w7 machine and browse in the navigator archLinuxMachineIP:631 and copy the URL for the printer in printers tabs,
then add on w7 this url and select the driver.
you have to add a address reservation in your router to the machine with the printer,

  • Printing from Windows XP - indirect connection to printer

I'm trying to print from Windows XP/Boot Camp from my MB Pro. When I print from OSX, I use the printer sharing option and print through my roommate's Mac which is directly connected to the printer (Epson).
In browsing the threads on this issue, I have yet to see one that addresses an indirect connection to the printer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
(Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong section of this forum.)

    I used Bonjour for Windows available from here;
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html
Set it up and printing is a breeze.
    Good luck.

I am also getting exactly the same problem, highlighting multiple pdf files right clicking and choosing "print" prints the first document, fails to close the adobe x window and sits there patiently untill it's manualy closed and then the next document prints  - repeat - loop.
Have this happening on just about every windows xp machine in the office that I try it on and any and all versions of "Adobe X" that I care to install.
would love a fix for this, reinstalling 9 manually on every PC would waste a day of my life.

CANNOT PRINTING FROM WINDOWS 7 TO MY PHOTOSMART c7180 ALL-IN-ONE (I CAN SEE MESSAGES IN QUEUE)?

    Hi,
I think you need to remove the queue. Please try:
hold down the Windows key and press R.
from the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.
if the machine asks for Admin you have to accept this,
look down to the print spooler service, right click it and select properties
        click on the Stop button,
        browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\printers
delete the job inside this folder
        reboot the machine
