Printing large sheets (A2/A1/A0) to PDF?

i think i should know this, but i don't seem to be able to find the solution...!
how can i print (a PDF) a document to a sheet larger than those defined by my installed printer drivers (A4/A3 etc)? i want to save to PDF, but selecting an A2, A1 or even A0 sheet.
i've tried installing an Adobe PDF driver, but it will only allow me to select A4, US letter and US legal sheet sizes.
cheers

whilst it's still a numbers document i need to easily check and uncheck boxes through, and they connect to formulas... so not sure check/tick characters will do the job.
as it is, it's not too bad, only when you zoom in... but as you say, the vector graphics should be better!
See if this works
Formula in C2 (and Fill Down)
=IF(B2,B$1,"")
Hide Column B before you print to PDF.

  • Problem printing large sheets

I am trying to plot downloaded construction plans on an HP designjet 800 but get thick black lines horizontally across the sheet.  The widths of the lines are not consistent.  The lines do not appear when I plot the plans on 8.5 x 11 sheets, only when I try to plot them to scale on larger sheets.

I'm having the same problem. Currently I'm not hooked up to a printer, I just want to generate a pdf to send to my print house to see if we can use this program or not.
It does seem to be an issue with the borders... I also could not reduce the border size below 0.56 in.
What I did (pain in the butt) was to try setting up different fake printers until I got one that would let me set the border to be small enough to meet my needs. This is a pain, because I dont know how to set up a printer that isn't attached to my machine, so I'm only setting up printer through IP printing. I found the HP LaserJet 5Si /5si MX driver lets me set the border to 0.08. Better, but not perfect.
Most photographers I know want to fit as many images as possible onto a single contaact sheet, which is the most efficent use of the space and $. I understand wanting to automaticaly set the page border minimum to wahtever the printer reports it as... but this makes no sense for positioning images on a page relative to each other.
The solution to this would seem simple:
one fixed border setting for the page (derived from printer info) and one variable setting for the images.
I'm surprised that this isn't the case already... which leads me to believe that this is a bug. I'm going to experiment more to see what I come up with... this is an important part of my workflow and will be a major factor in whether I keep using Aperture.
on another note... right now I send my images to the printer as 250dpi jpeg files (their request... output is great on photo paper). These PDFs aren't what I need to begin with because photoshop reports the contact sheet pdf as being 200dpi. Any ideas on how to set the DPI of the output like I can in photoshop?

  • Printing multiple 'sheets' per page, using adobe pdf printer

I've got a number of PDFs that are scanned books, and they were scanned 2 pages at a time, and then OCRed
What I'd like to be able to do is re'print' the file to a new PDF file (so that the OCRed text remains searchable in the new file), in a5, so that in stead of 2 pages on every a4 'page' i get one 'book page' per 'PDF page'.
While it's fairly easy to tell Acrobat to print to a5, this will result in every left half of the a4 page being printed to the new file, and every right side of the page being discarded.
But if I rotate all pages in the file 180 degrees and print that, the print preview does show the reversed page properly, but once I print the file, it will rotate the pages back before printing them, once again yielding only the left side of every page (probably in a misguided effort to help me)
Why doesn't the printer automatically print the right side on a new a5 sheet, or at least allow me to orient the pages any way i like while printing them?
Does anyone know of a way for me to print these pages properly, or if the acrobat pdf printer is somehow bugged? (and can/will this be fixed?)

    Hi Timothy,
Please ask your question on the regular Acrobat User-to-User forum. This forum deals with 3D specific issues, and although you may have Acrobat 3D installed, your question would most likely get a good response on the other forum.

  • Eprint fails to print large paper size pdf

    Hello
I often need to plot long PDF drawings on my designjet 111 paper roll version. With the pdf reader or professional acrobat  printing turns out mission impossible, when there are heavy raster data behind, so i wanted to use the eprint and share solution. Up to a lenght of about 1300 mm it works really well, however when trying with longer drawings the software refuses to print. Is there any method to print longer pdf's with eprint? Is this parameter plotter specific?
I tried as well to print my drawings with the designjet GoWeb virtual printer, that directly creates plt files. But with this solution i don't manage to control the scaling and some frame margins are cut.
I know many people dealing daily with similar problems when plotting pdf drawings on their plotters. Pdf is still a interchange and archive standard in civil engineering projects and a complete solution within eprint&share would probably be very appreciated.
    Many thanks for your answers.
    Bernie

    Hello Bob
i was led on this forum, because it concerns eprinting. i agree it would better fit the designjet forum.
I got an answer from HP concerning my problem and publish it here for info to other users.
    kind regards
    bernhard
    answer from hp eprint+share team:
Sometimes a big PDF or DWG file appears as a non printable with the tip: "Not supported file size. Try to fit a smaller size".
The reason of that is the amount of pixels used to calculate the image is too large. The Adobe PostScript library used by ePrint&Share has a limitation for PDF and DWG conversions. Most of the HP printers work internally at 300dpi when the Draft quality is selected and in 600dpi when Normal or Best qualities are applied. Whit an internal resolution of 600dpi maximum plot length will be 1,3 m., and with an internal resolution of 300dpi maximum plot length will increase to 2,7m.
However, there is an exception with a set of printers that are using also 600dpi with Draft quality. In those cases the maximum length is always 1,3m. The printer list with this handicap is:
    - HP Designjet T1100
    - HP Designjet T1120
    - HP Designjet T1200
    - HP Designjet T1300
    - HP Designjet T2300
    - HP Designjet T610
    - HP Designjet T620
    - HP Designjet T7100
    - HP Designjet T770
    - HP Designjet T790
Keep in mind this is a question of the internal printer resolution. It does not mind the resolution of the image.
In the meantime, we recommend you to follow one of the next workaround:
    Solution 1:
Step 1: Select Draft in the ePrint&Share quality menu for those printer that are not in the previous list.
In that case, DesignJet 111 printer can print in 300 dpi when "draft" option is selected.
    Solution 2:
Step 1: Open the PDF you need to convert with a Adobe Acrobat (or any other program that can "save as..." the images with different formats)
Step 2: Convert the PDF file to a TIFF or JPEG format file.
Step 3: Add the file to ePrint&Share (in this way the file will appears as a printable file) and print it.
The conversion of a PDF vector file to a raster bitmap file format, is a step that the printer does internally to its predefined resolution when you send a vector file (PDF) to it. When you generates a TIFF you are doing, in advance, the printer job. Of course with two disadvantages:
    - The bitmap files are bigger.
    - When we resize a bitmap we are losing quality.
However, if you are generating a TIFF file format you could decide with which specific resolution and size you want to print your job, and in most cases, 150ppp is a good enough resolution.
If you have any doubt please not hesitate to contact us.
    We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • When I print large PDF's of 10+ pages I get multiple duplicate pages.

When I print large PDF's of 10+ pages the print order goes in the following sequence.
Page 1, Page 1-2, Page 1-2-3, Page 1-2-3-4, Page 1-2-3-4-5 .... and continues in that fassion until the printer is out of paper.
When a smaller document prints it comes out fine like page 1-9 in sequesnce as it should.  I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 fully patched and Adobe Reader X 10.1.3.  This is very strange as there is only one machine in the office that is doing it and I have tried instalingin and reinstalling the printers and the Adobe readr in order to fix this and there isn't really anything that I can find that might be causing the issue.

  • Problems with Printing Large Blocks of Colour in InDesign CS 5.5

I am hoping someone can help me.
I purchased InDesign CS 5.5 and Konica Konica Magicolor 7450ll Printer for my business. Essentially I am creating A4 sheets with a background colour with three or four lines of white text.  I was advised that InDesign was the best tool for this type of work.
I seem to be able to create brilliantly flat colours when using the inbuilt CMYK swatches, however if I attempt to create a new swatch or even fade an inbuilt swatch the print is not flat, it is patchy and very poor quality.
I raised the issue with Konica, and they have stated that it is an InDesign fault? I am running Windows XP. They told me to do a search on InDesign/Windows conflicts but I have not been able to find any articles which address this problem.
I have created a PDF and get the same problem, I copied the artwork into Photoshop and the print was much much better but still nowhere near the vibrancy of the inbuilt CMYK swatches.
Can anyone assist me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rach

    Hi Rach
The standard swatches and any others you make yourself will print perfectly provided the device is up to the job.
I'm not familiar with the printer you have there (although it looks very nice!) but I've never come across a laser printer that copes well with large areas of solid colour with any reliability, sorry.
This may help to illustrate what I think you need to see. If you want to see the information (graphically) that InDesign will send to the printer then have a look at the separations preview. Turn on/off the individual separations to see the CMYK channels it will generate. if you can find patches there, then InDesign is at fault, if not, it is your printer and you need to tell Konica specifically that you're trying to print large solids.
    Hope that helps.

  • HOW DO I PRINT AN 11X17 DOCUMENT AS AN 11X17 PDF?

Hello -- I have a drawing in MicroSofft Visio that was created with a page size of 11"x17".  When I preview that drawing, it looks exactly like what I want -- a landscape image on 11x17 virtual paper, with 1/4 inch margins on all sides.  However, when I use Adobe Acrobat to print to a PDF, it automatically creates a letter-sized image from the Visio file.  The resultinf PDF file has wasted space, because the image is resized to fit a smaller printable area, and it is not ready to send to a printer capable of printing on 11x17 paper.  I would like to use Acrobat to print this Visio file to a virtual (PDF) 11x17 page, and then I would like Acrobat Reader to print that PDF on real 11x17 paper (using an appropriate printer and paper).  How do I do that?
Also -- I do not want to print a letter-sized copy and get that enlarged, because it will lose resolution.  There is a lot of important fine print.  Likewise, I do not want to tile several pages to make up the proper image, because that is added work and because the edges will have some distortion that I will have to align carefully and because the result will not be a single large page that I can take into a meeting.
I am using MS Visio Professional 2002 (with SP-2), Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.5, and MS Windows Vista Home Premium.
Thanks very much for your help -- CPI-John

    Drew --
Thnaks for your rteply, but that does not seem to have worked -- at least
    not for me.
If you can open a Visio file (I have MS Visio Professional 2002 with SP-2),
then please see the attached 2 files, which I put together to try to get
17x11 pages to print.  You can see that the Visio dummy is right at 11x17,
but the PDF is distorted.  Those are in Portrait (which I can rotate to get
Landscape, even though it would be distorted relative to the Visio
original).  When I tried it in Landscape, the image was in landscape, but
the page was in portrait, with about 1/2 of the image missing (because it
extended beyond that page).  It is as if Acrobat is saying that pages this
large must be in portrait and will be resized to fit some requirement.
Anyway, that is the best that I have been able to do so far.

  • Printing Contact Sheets

    Hello
I am trying to print a 4.5 x 5.75 contact sheet of 8 images, which I have saved as a preset. I have printed this many times in the past but this time I am getting a error message (which appears in the print dialog box too quickly for me to read.)
Anyways it seems to be isolated to printing contact sheets. If I try to print a single image from Aperture there is no problem. I have tried rebuilding my Aperture library, tried rebooting, but don't know what else to try?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.

    Miklos:
One poster pointed out that you could create a book using the Year Book theme. There you can select to have anywhere from 1 to 32 images per page and include the file names underneath the photos if desired. Then print the book to PDF and then print each page to hardcopy. Don't know if that will reduce your overall assembly time but you will be able to have the file names or titles printed also.
Another way is to create an html gallery, display in Safari and then print. Here's how:
    Creating Contact Sheet with Titles
1 - Put the files you want to print in an album and arrange in the order you'd like.
2 - Go to the File->Export->Web Page menu option.
3 - While in the Web page window, select the number of thumbnails you'd like across each page (iPhoto will keep you informed on how many pages it will take).
4 - Click on Show Title under thumbnails and click on Export. Then select the location where you'd like the resulting files to be saved (create a temporary folder to contain them).
5 - Once saved, go the folder and open the index.html file with your browser. You will get a page with your thumbnails and titles beneath them.
6 - Print that browser page and you've got your contact sheet with file names (or comments if desired).
If you want more control over the thumbnail gallery, try using BetterHTMLExport or Galerie
    Good luck.

  • How to print multiple sheets per page?

Please advise how, if it is possible, to print multiple sheets per page with Acrobat 7.0 Pro.<br /><br />I have a PDF that's about 24" x 60". I'd like to make a "poor man's poster" by printing on several pages and taping them together -- sort of like Microsoft's "Fit to <x pages> tall by <y pages> wide" feature. That is typically a function of the print driver for Acrobat. One way to do it is to print to a new PDF and select the printer properties and select multi-up. Bill

  • Print 2:1 layout from numbers into pdf zero bytes

    Output desired
1 page landscape with page 1 and 2 side by side
Problem: zero byte output when layout changed
Hi before mavericks / last numbers update i used to be able to print a spreadsheet with 2 separate sheets on one landscape page, by choosing print-->print...>layout (2 pages per sheet), then save as PDF.  Anytime I choose anything other than 1 page per sheet the resulting PDF file has zero bytes and doesn't work.  The print preview in numbers looks correct as well as the print dialogue preview.  Something is failing in the export.  Any ideas?

    Hi lotsokids,
Just to ensure we are all singing the same tune .
A Numbers document consists of one or more sheets (tabs).
Each sheet can have one or more tables plus other objects (shapes, charts, text boxes... ).
A page is a piece of paper in your printer.
Am I right in thinking you have two tables on one sheet?
And you want to line them up within the page margins so that they both print on one page? Screen shot from Print Preview:
Numbers 3 has lost the good old Print View and Layout View of Numbers 2. We are stuck with Print Preview with limited editing options. We can set page margins, orientation (landscape or portrait), page headers and footers, print This Sheet or All Sheets. You may have to drag the Print Setup Panel up to see all the options.
To help align objects within the page margins, click on Done to close Print Preview. Then Menu > Numbers > Preferences > Rulers (and tick all boxes).
Alignment Guides can be dragged from the rulers to show page margins.

  • How on Earth do you Print Contact Sheet in Landscape Orientation in the new iPhoto?

Just upgraded to Maverick and new iPhoto and boy am I sorry.  In the last version of of iPhoto it was really difficult to print 4 to a page contact sheets from iPhoto in landscape mode.  Why would you want to print in any othe mode when most photos are taken in landscape?
Pleae help as I have to print these photos ASAP for a client.

First set the page size to letter- borderless. Next after selecting the Contact theme click on the Print Settings button and reset the page size to 11 wide and 8.5 high.
Finally set the columns to 2 which will give you this:
To test it without having to print each time use the PDF ➙ Save as PDF menu option.  If all looks good you can print from the PDF file.
There's no provision for adding a title at the top of the page.  However, create a TextEdit, Word, Pages, etc., document, put the title at the top and print over the printed contact sheet.

  • Print only sheets with comments

How can I select and print only sheets with comments.  If I have a plan set that is 300 pages long and I make comments on random pages and want to select and print just those pages, how can I do that without manually searching through the document and writing them down them printing them.  The comment summary options don't help because I want to print the sheets as they are, without adding the little numbers next to them like it does. Thanks for the help!

    Marcus:
There's no direct way to do what you want to do but there are a couple of workaround that can work.
1 - create a book with the Yearbook theme. That will allow you to have a page of multiple photos and text underneath. Do a Print to PDF. Open the pfd file with Preview and print the individual pages you need.
2 - create a gallery with the built in html layout or use BetterHTMLExport or Galerie to create a thumbnail page with comments. Galerie and BetterHTMLExport both have much nicer themes and layouts for you to control. Then open the gallery in Safari and print the thumbnail page.

  • Adobe Reader X prints large black spots in large documents

I have a user with Windows XP SP3 and Adobe Reader X.  When he prints a catalog with images, it randomly prints large black spots throughout the document.  If I print one of the individual pages that had black spots, it prints fine.  Are there any known issues that would cause this or does anyone have any suggestions?  He is printing to a Toshiba eStudios 5520c copier.  No one else has the problem printing to this printer but, he is the only one using Adobe Reader to print catalogs to this printer.  Everyone else printing catalogs to this printer use at least Adobe Pro of some version (the versions differ between users).  I have increased the size of the page file and reinstalled the printer driver.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for providing the information.
Could you please try and reinstall the printer driver on this user's machine and see if it solves the issue.
Also, do all PDFs with images produce the same output from this user's machine?
