Printing on shared printer with Time Capsule

I've got a question on how to print on a shared USB printer with the Time Capsule. I think the answer is that I'm doing it wrong and expecting the impossible.
The typical set up, I think, is Time Capsule plugged into computer, printer plugged into Time Capsule, and then all parties in the wireless network can print. Right?
I've got my Time Capsule in the basement (that's where the cable modem is) and it shoots off a nice strong signal to the 2nd floor and does our backups nicely. The printer is plugged into my husband's iMac. My iMac can see the printer and acts like it has access to it. But nothing happens when I try to print.
Is this simply because the printer must be plugged into the Capsule and there is no other way about it?
Thanks.

Please excuse me for jumping in on the party but I'm kind of in a fix. I just installed a time capsule. I can print from my PC (which is hard wired via Ethernet to the TC) to the USB printer connected directly to TC (HP F380). However when I print from my ACER PC through wireless it prints only 75% of the page then the printer freezes. If it's a 2 page document, it'll print 1 page then only 75% of the 2nd page. I tried reinstalling a new HP driver and Bonjour but without joy. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated. After solving this problem my next step would be to actually invest in an IMAC! Being an ex IBM'er I finally feel the need for change!

  • Looking for a printer/scanner that works with Time Capsule

I recently purchased a Canon MP250 printer/scanner, 1 GB Time Capsule, and two iMac's (21.5 and 27). I connected the printer/scanner to the Time Capsule USB port and it was absolutely trivial to get both iMac's to print to the MP250. My problem is that I can not figure out how to get the scanner to save scanned image files to either iMac.
If I plug the Canon MP250 directly into either iMac, it is trivial to scan. Pressing the SCAN button on the MP250 causes the Image Capture application to launch on the iMac, and then you simply press the Scan button of the Image Capture application.
If it is not possible to scan connecting the Canon MP250 to the Time Capsule, is there another model of printer/scanner that will work as a scanner when connected to the Time Capsule?
    Thanks,
    Carroll

The USB port on the Time Capsule will only support compatible printers. It will not support other functions such as copy, fax, scan or maintenance. If you need these services, your only option is to connect the all-in-one directly to a computer.

  • Printer does not work with Time capsule

I have a cannon mp960 which up until recently has been hooking up wirelessly to my mac via Time capsule. Yesterday I couldn't print. I was able to print when I directly hooked up the printer to the computer. When I attempt to switch it back it will sometimes find the printer and other times it doesn't. Sometimes it won't let me add the printer (I get an -300 error) other times it works fine.
Could it be a hardware problem?
    Any thoughts about this issue?
    Thanks,
    Keith

I found a solution to this problem. Open AirPort Utility>select the Time Capsule>Manual Setup>Select the "Printers" tab at the top>check the box in front of "Share printers over Ethernet WAN port">click update at the bottom and Voila!!

  • Epson Print Servers compatible with Time Capsule?

First up: I'm no techie. Epson tells me I will need an Epson print server to enable me to print wirelessly on my ADSL-Time Capsule 500GB (7.3.2)-Airport (5.3.2) network, using an Epson DX8400, which they tell me doesn't support network printing: so far so bad (& so much for the cheap all-in-one printer). Can anyone tell me (if there is no other way of achieving wireless printing) if the Epson print servers are compatible with Time Capsule? I don't have the tech spec to hand, but there are only 3 PSs on the Epson website, 2 of which appear to be the same but vary by a few pounds in price (about GBP150). This was an expense I didn't want, but if I can print wirelessly (AND IT WORKS!) I will pay it, because I want to get a desktop model as well soon & will want to print wirelessly from that as well. I have posted this to the Time Capsule forum as well, but any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

yep am using a  usb hub, time cap. has only the one usb port- yes two usb outs on the hard drive , sorry, which merge into one into the hd, is bus powered...

  • Problem with Time Capsule and Wireless Printing (Mac+PC Mixed)

I have a time capsule that is the wireless router for the house and my iMac and laptops use the wireless network beautifully. I installed a Dell 1320C color laser printer by connecting it to the usb port on the time capsule. The airport express utility did NOT recognize any USB printer connected to the time capsule. I was however able to wireless print from my iMac by asking the printer utility to find all available printers which it did and then installing the printer drivers (thanks google). So, while i cannot find my printer as being connected to the time capsule through the airport utility, i can find it through the print utility as a connection through bonjour and i can print just fine to it.
Now i installed bonjour on my laptops and found and selected the 1320c just fine. When i try to print through the laptops (pc), nothing happens and the file stays in the print queue.
I am willing to live with the first quirk as I can print wirelessly from the iMac. I however need help to print from the laptops.
    Any suggestions?
thank you so much in advance

Once I connect the printer via ethernet to the time capsule, how do I
    1) see the printer on my iMAC - what utility do I run etc?
It is connected to your network. Check your printer setup manual on how to set it up. Or go the the Dell website for printer support if you can't find your manual.
    2) can i then run bonjour from my windows laptops and see the printer through the network?
Via ethernet, it shouldn't need Bonjour to set up.

  • Use Network ready printer with Time Capsule?

Recently bought a laser all in one Canon printer that was network ready. Canon tech support told me it would not be compatible with Time Capsule (500 GB) as the wireless source. Is this true?
If true, what printer brands will network easily with the Time Capsule?
    Thank you!
    In search of new printer

    Welcome to the discussions!
If the all-in-one is "network ready", it will have an ethernet port to connect to the network. It will need to connect by ethernet if you want to be able to use the scan, fax, copy, etc functions.
If you are planning to connect the all-in-one to the Time Capsule USB port, the printing function will work if the device is compatible. The other functions will not be supported.

  • Air Print with Time Capsule

I have my wireless printer hooked up to my time capsule. Works fine with MacBook, shouldn't it work with my iPad . Obviously because it is not. Thank you for any help

    LbiMike-
By now you should know the iPad can only print directly to AirPrint printers without having a printing app installed.
If you DO have an AirPrint printer, it is my understanding that you can wirelessly print directly to it if it is not associated with a wireless router. However it must be operating in Wireless mode and be associated with your Wireless network if you're not printing directly to it.
Someone said that connecting an AirPrint printer to a USB port on the wireless router won't work from the iPad, even though you can print to it from your computer.

I connected my Canon printer to time capsule, and can print OK. However, I can't get the printer scanner to work. How do you set up the scanner with Time Capsule?

You cannot use USB. It has to be a network capable printer.. is it?? You did not indicate how it is connected.. but by wireless or ethernet then scanning is possible otherwise not.

  • Hp f2280 printing only black&white via time capsule

HP f2280 printing only black&white via time capsule
    anyone have this problem before?

I have just purchased the latest Time Capsule and have exactly the same problem with my HP F2280 when printing from my iMac. Very odd. So started surfing the web and it appears we are not alone and there is no easy fix. Anyway it appears the scanner will not work via the TC either, never crossed my mind when I purchased it that I would have such problems. Two thumbs down for TC

  • Printed a shared calendar with tasks

I need to print my boss's daily calendar with the tasks listed on the right side, but although both his calendar are tasks are shared with me and I can view them, it won't let me print the calendar with the tasks from my outlook.  From other
discussions I saw people recommending the Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook, but it looks like that only works in Outlook 2007 and it won't work on my Outlook 2013.
Is there any solution for this besides adding his mailbox to my computer?

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to print a shared calendar with tasks, please follow these steps: -
In Outlook 2013, you need to ensure the print settings are correct first.
    Go to the
Calendar; enter Day view by clicking the Day button above the Calendar.
    File tab >
Print. In the list at the right ensure Daily Style is chosen under
Settings. Then click the Print Options button just above the
Settings list. In the Print Dialog box that opens, right in the middle is a button that says
    Page Setup; select that.
Print setup dialog box that opens, in the
Format tab, find the Options block on the lower left. In that block, the second item down is labeled
Tasks. From the drop-down menu to the right of Tasks, choose
    To-Do list.
In that same dialog box you probably want to clear the checkmark next
“include: Notes area (blank)” to make more room for tasks.
    Now click
OK first and then Print on the next screen. That’s it. The setting should be saved.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • My printer is connected to the Time Capsule but my IPad 2 can't find it

My HP C4100 printer is connected to our Time Capsule and both of our MacBooks can find it easily. I just purchased an IPad 2 and it will not find the printer.  What do I need to make this work?

    Philip-
Your MacBooks print using the printer's native printing language.  The iPad does not have the necessary printer drivers.
Instead, the iPad uses the AirPrint system that requires the printer to translate AirPrint jobs to its native language.  The HP C4100 does not have AirPrint capability.
There are third party Apps for the iPad such as Print n Share, that have their own browser, mail, photo and document programs.  Those programs can print to a several different printers that are not AirPrint capable.
You can also find a script on the web, that adds a small file to a Macintosh computer, so it will share its printers over WiFi as if they were AirPrint printers.  There are also programs such as Printopia, that will share your Macintosh printers.  This works well, but you must have the computer booted up anytime you want to print from the iPad.

  • Setting up new HP Laserjet CP1525nw wirelessly with Time Capsule

Im having issues setting up my new HP Laser printer via wirelessly with Time Capsule. I have tried with the Wireless Client Setup
Assistant but cannot get it to work. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I tried to get the CP1525nw set up on my computer here at the office and found, much to my chagrin, that the CP1525 is not supported under 10.7 and retroactively not supported under 10.6. The way that I have found to get around the issue is to connect it wirelessly via a static IP address and use a generic postscript driver. I'm hoping that they will release a driver to Apple soon, but until then, generic is the only way to go and I have not found any print quality issues.

  • Printing to shared printer

We run two i-Macs and one MacBook Air from our home. We have Time Capsule and another Airport Express to extend the network. One of the i-Macs (which my wife uses to run her business from home) is connected to Time Capsule via Ethernet, but Airport also runs on this i-Mac. When we connect the printer to Time Capsule (rather than to my wife's i-Mac) via usb, then the OTHER i-Mac and the MacBook Air are able to print to the shared printer, but my wife's i-Mac is NOT able to print. As a result, we keep needing to go in and swap the printer usb from the i-Mac to the Time Capsule every time we want to print from one of the other computers. Naturally, this seems to not be the point of shared printing via Time Capsule. (As an aside, we can't get Time Machine to properly back up the other i-Mac - the one that is connected via Airport rather than via ethernet, but we'll save that for another thread). Any suggestions?

I just tried to print using my Time Capsule. I had not tried to print since installing the new Time Capsule and the printing failed.
I then searched and found a document: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1253
    Reset Printing System
Use these steps only if the above steps do not help.
Open Print & Fax preferences in System Preferences.
Control-click or right-click in the Printers box on the left and choose "Reset printing system..."
    Click OK.
Click the "+" button to add your printer again.
    Try to print.
I did reset and everything is working now!

  • MacBook freezes with Time Capsule

    Hi all,
I switched from PC to mac and am very happy with that decision. I do have one recurrent problem, with Time Capsule and Time Machine and can't find anything in the manuals that tells me what the problem is.
My TC is not being used as a router, as my laserprinter doesn't have a USB, so I kept my wireless router to be able to continue printing from all machines at home and connected my TC to the router, giving it a fixed IP address within my home network. When it's on, it shows up in as a shard disk in finder and I can easily write files to it from all machines.
However, when I launch Time Machine, using the TC as the back-up disk, there is a small window saying "Connecting to server" and then my computer freezes and so does the TC so it seems. I've let this run for a couple of hours, but nothing changes. The only thing left to do is to turn off my computer.
I do realize that the above configuration is not what is recommended, and I assume there is some interference with the Airport trying to connect to the TC as well as to the router, even though Time Machine is set up with the TC with its fixed IP address.
I've been on the phone with an Apple person, but we were unable to fix this. I'm getting a bit desperate (and irritated) here. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Maarten.

    Dear Bob,
Thank you for your answer. The procedure you suggested did work in so far as it found the disk and started the backup, but even if I had made a first backup on the disk a while ago (doing it with the disk directly connected to my computer as suggested by the Apple expert, rather than via the router), it took all night and still wasn't finished. The problem is that I cannot do anything on the computer while TM is running, programs will not start up, it even doesn't react to the keyboard. The only thing I can do is to turn off the computer. Given that I need my computer for work, I cannot afford it not to work
This is really frustrating: I know it should work (a friend of mine makes back-ups every hour with TM on a regular external disk, not a TC), and here I am with expensive (and nice) material, and it just doesn't work and I have no idea why.
    Thanks again for any suggestion.
    -Maarten.

  • Pages 2.0.2 won't print to shared printer

help! i'm at the end of my rope here.
pages used to print to my shared printer no problem. but since a hard drive failure in my powerbook g4 1.33 it's been no dice.
since getting the hd, everything has been reinstalled: 10.4.8, epson printer drivers, iworks; EVERYTHING. other apps print to the shared printer fine. (the shared printer is on a home network, connected to a mac pro. access via a wireless router (dlink))
i tried resetting the powerbook's PMU/PRAM. still, a popup window says: "error while printing."
when the PB is directly connected to the printer 'pages' prints fine, only to the shared printer. nothing on the network has changed at all. (except one of my attempts to fix this was to reset the printer system on the mac pro)
i've tried all the suggestions in the forum (searching for 'pages print error'), this includes turning off duplicate fonts with fontbook, resetting the printer system on the PB in various ways as suggested, deleting pref files and the like.
    steps to print involve these:
    1. open pages.
    2. open file
    3. select print, select shared printer.
    4. click print.
    5. a slight pause for about 1sec then the error message comes up: Error when printing.
any subsequent try at printing the same file or another file the message pops up immediately with no delay.
what am i missing? is there something on the network side?
i can't think of anything else to check. i've looked at apple support articles till the wee hours of the morning.
can someone offer any suggestions? you would have my undying gratitude!!
    cheers and happy holidays,
    sean

    hey folks,
i've used app zapper to delete pages and then re-installed it. same thing happens. no luck.
are there any other setting that pages might access? does PMSessionValidatePrintSettings refer to Print Manager?
could it be permissions on the print manager's plist file? i'm just guessing as there was a slight name change on her user name when her settings, etc. were imported thru the migration assistant after the hd failure. it's a guess as i've run into this problem when switching from my PPC to the Intel. my user name went from seanw to sean and some of my apps were still labeled with the old "seanw" as the owner. (this was because i dragged and dropped some stuff instead of using the MA as i didn't know it existed.)
if no solution presents itself how would i go about transferring my wife's user profile to another, new profile with out too much headache?
would i create the new user and use MA to transfer her stuff from her backup?
thanks for the suggestions, you have no idea how much this is appreciated.
    cheers,
    sean
