Printing to Scale

Reader v.9  How do I adjust the scale to print a PDF file at 1/4" = 1' ?  Architects send blueprints in 1/8" scale which I have to increase the scale to do design measurements.

In the print menu, be sure that scaling is set to "none".
If that isn't the cure, you'll need to give us a few more details to help like, what application and version you are talking about, what type of file (if not a PDF), OS...etc. The more info, the better chance of getting help.

  • Newbie:  In printing dialog, "Scale to" size options are greyed out

I am in the initial stages of figuring out how to use Aperture (v1.5). I am currently trying to make a 5x7 print of a photo.
In the print dialog, "Scale to" 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 size options are greyed out (only "fit image" and "fill entire page" are available).
I've tried searching through the forums, but to no avail...
    Thanks!

Click the Arrange button on the toolbar and select the desired option.

  • How do I Configure Desktop Printer to scale to fit?

I love the feature of drag and drop printing and I often need to print many pdfs. However when I drag pdfs to the desktop printer icon it prints them on letter sized paper without scaling them to fit. I have configured the printer in the setup utility to print on tabloid but it still prints on letter with no scaling. How can I configure the desktop printer to scale to fit and select paper size? booya

Hi Daniel, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Doesn't your printer have a setting for the default size in it rather than just on the Mac?
What size are these in the first place?
I think the secret is to save the Tabloid size as a Default, but I don't have a Tabloid to test with, so I used Preview, (which you may end up having to use to drop on or Script to, dunno yet).
I made a new Page size of Tabloid...
    Then saved as default...
You'll have to test this... not even sure it works to Scale to Size, but at least you could drop them on Preview then +p to see.

  • When printing grey scale on a MX882 printer, is the color ink used at all?

We set all of our home PCs to print gray scale on our printer, an MX882 (serial # ACAT48275) in order to not use so much color ink.  That seemed to be working very well until the big black ink cartridge (the 226BK) emptied out.  I didn't think anything of it because the small 225 BK cartridge was still full.    The 225 BK is about 1/2 full now, but all of a sudden, the color inks (226C and 226M) are empty, with the 226Y 1/2 empty.
My question is, if the BIG black cartridge (226BK) empties, does it not "switch over" to the 225 BK?  Or does is start "creating" black by using both magenta and cyan?
    Thanks.
    Mark

    Hello.
If plain, letter sized paper is used, the printer should use the large black tank for grayscale printing.  If specialty paper or duplex printing is used, the printer would use the dye based inks.    If grayscale printing is not enabled, the printer may create 'composite' blacks by using mixtures of the color inks.  This may occur when graphic or web-based printouts are performed.
The reason for the two different black ink tanks is for the different types of printing your unit is able to perform.  They are not intended as backups to each other.  The larger black tank is pigment based, and is primarily used for standard black text printing or output.  The smaller black ink tank is dye based like the color inks, and is used for photo and graphics output.

  • Why can't I print to scale?

Adobe reader. It doesn't let you print on the scale you want.
I'm not talking about that stupid 'print to fit the page' option, which does nothing for most cases. Why can't I print with scale that I want? I'm not asking anyone how I can do it. I've read I can do it through photoshop or changing the printing paper size. Why doesn't the adobe reader have that function at all? It's like the most basic function of a paper reader. IMO, the adobe reader exists so that people can share stuff to 'print'.
Don't adobe care about the community feedback, or interface? Do they think we're too dumb to figure out scaling so they have to do it for us? What is it? This is probably why Apple is trying to exclude adobe.
Please reply if you knows why, or if you just want to rant with me.

    Terry,
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The printing system in OS X is CUPS. To be able to use the network print protocols, you need driver(s) that work with CUPS. Not only does Canon not provide CUPS drivers, but they don't cooperate with the open source community so that Gimp-Print (free CUPS drivers), for example, could support your model. The only CUPS driver (I know of) for your model is available for purchase from www.printfab.net.

  • Acrobat 5.0.5, Windows XP, not printing to scale

I use an admitedly odd CADD program (Visual CADD 4.0) to make drawings. Until today, I was able to create a document from CADD to Acrobat that would then print to scale on any laser or ink jet printer. This morning I emailed a drawing to someone who reported that the drawing was smaller than scale. I printed one myself and verified that this is the case. I have tried various settings to correct the problem to no avail. Any ideas on what might have changed and / or how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Ken

In the print menu there are selections for shrink and expand to page. Turn that off. There is an outside chance you had it on when you created the PDF.

HAVING A PROBLEM WHEN I PRINT A WEB PAGE WHICH IS MORE THAT ONE PAGE LONG. ONLY THE FIRST PAGE PRINTS TO SCALE...THE REMAINING PAGES PRINT OFF THE PAGE????HELP-IT IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH FIREFOX BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH SAFARI??

Thank you for the response. I tried to fix the problem with some of the suggestions on that page, but none seem to work. I believe that is the only website that I'm having that problem on. I got to fooling with it a bit more and when I highlight the whole page and select to print the selected area, it actually prints the whole page then, but it won't do it as a default. I guess I can just do it like that from now on, but I thought there would be something in the settings that I could have changed. Thanks again for the help.

  • Hp Officejet 8000 Set to print Gray scale but still using color

Hp Officejet 8000 Set to print Gray scale and use only Black ink, Draft Quality, but still using color ink. I'm replacing color ink cart more often the Black. I understand even when set to black only it will still use some color in cleaning and such. but not the amount of color it is using now. Printer has me pissed total waste of money. I'm ready to get my Xerox Phaser solid ink printer fixed. as it was super cheap on ink.

    Hello Lynn,
Is your network router located near your desktop PC and L7590 officejet?
If so, I would suggest that you connect the L7590 to the router with an ethernet cable(you can also leave your usb cable connected to the desktop). Then you can connect more directly (still through the network) to the L7590 with your dv7 laptop instead of connecting through the desktop.  Since your dv7 is wirelessly connected to the router, and the L7590 is also connected (wired) to the same router, the setup is much easier.
If you want to try this, first download the software from hp.com (click here for the download page).  When you run the installation on your dv7 notebook you will be guided through the steps necessary for connecting to the printer via the network.
Dont forget to reply and let us know how it goes!

  • Changing size of file to print half scale

I have an engineers drawing that is printed out to a specific scale ( so all drawings match up with actual size of objects) and I would like to find a way to print it in a half scale form so I can use a smaller printer and a smaller piece of paper.
For example, the original file size is set to be printed out to scale on a 33"x 28" piece of paper, I however would like to shrink the scale by 50% and print it out on a smaller piece of paper say 11" x 17".
    Hope someone can help.
    Marc

There's 3 ways to do it:
Buy Quite Imposing, very easy to use, very powerful, does exactly what you want, but not cheap.
Place your PDF in a program like Indesign, scale it and re export it.  Accurate and tidy, but a bit slower, and you have to have that other program.
Lastly, and most messy, print your PDF to the Adobe PDF printer, and scale it then, but you'll have to play around with the options, and check it thoroughly afterwards.

  • Adobe Acrobat - When i print, it scales to much

So im going to print a PDF document from Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, and every print setting is correct. Its on A4 and on the print server it is also A4, So when i press Print, i go to the printer (Konika Minolta 352) and it says on the display: Wrong papersize etc, and it asks for the manual paper tray. I get the option to change the tray, so i select the A4 tray and it starts to print.
When it's done printing 1/3 of the document is missing and the text is to big. I go check the printer options again and everything is normal. The scale is also normal. When i try to print it on A3, its okey, all of the text is the size of A4 (imagine that you put an empty A4 paper over the text on the A3 and the A4 covers everything)
So what is happening? My Co-worker tried to print the same document from Acrobat Reader, and it went Ok, didnt ask for another tray or anything else that i experienced.
So please, anyone who can help me?

Yes in fact i did, this is my print settings from Adobe Acrobat when i hit CTRL-P
EDIT: It says Type: Konica Minolta c360 series, but that is wrong, but its the same setup as if i change to the C352 series.

  • Printing with scale

Having problems printing in the right scale since I installed Mavericks OSX (It is not a printer problem, it works fine via windows 7).

More details. What app are you printing from? What's not working? Does the preview in the print dialog show the expected scale?

  • HP Printer default scale settings always reset to 10%

Every time I hit the print button on my Mac (I have an HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer) the document prints at 10%. I know, I have to go into page set up and when i do that, the scale is always at 10% so I have to change the scale to 100%.
My question is, why is it not automatically set at 100% anymore? And how can I make the print scale default to 100% so I don't have to go into page set up everytime I want to print

Click on [YOUR_PRINTER], then, from the Administration menu, choose "Set Default Options". The options under "General" vary depending on the printer. Are any relevant to your issue?
OK, this feels like we're on the right track!
The default paper size is set to US Letter... which is perfect.
Then, I went to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/ but I didn't see anything about paper scale when I clicked on all the tabes under "Set Default Options", including "General". I did try to click on "Default Options" button which asked me for a username and password but I'm not quite sure what would even be nor how to even find them because I have never been to that page before...

  • How to print with "Scale: 100%" by default from Preview

The print dialogue in Preview is set by default to "Scale to Fit".
I never need this, I always need "Scale: 100%".
It's annoying to change all the time I have to print a PDF from Preview the setting!
I tried to save the print setting, but it does not work.
So. Is there a way to set the print dialogue by default to "Scale: 100%" ?
    Mayby with a Terminal command?

AFAICT, only for PDF files. If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Mac Developer Program—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Why does my Epson 3800 printer not print to scale?

I have designed a cover for a brochure in Illustrator CS4 that I intend to print at home. This cover has a mixture of colour graphics and mono text. The mono text prints more clearly on my HP LaserJet 2200 than my Epson 3800 inkjet printer so I intend to run my covers through the laser printer first for the mono text and then through the inkjet printer for all the colour items.
I did this for last year's brochure cover without any apparent problems but my latest design is highlighting the fact that the laser printer is placing items on the page more accurately than my inkjet paper - which results in some misalignment. My Epson 3800 appears to be slightly expanding my Illustrator page layout even though I have selected the 'Do Not Scale' option in the Illustrator Print dialogue box. A measurement between two items in my Illustrator design is 278 mm. The same dimension on the printed page is 284 mm, i.e. 6 mm wider, which is a non-trivial error.
Can anyone provide an explanation and/or solution for this behaviour?
    David

    Hi Harron,
Thanks for a rapid and accurate answer. The borderless option was indeed the culprit.
Your reply was also very useful in alerting me to the existence of the 'Retain Size' option under Expansion. I'd never seen that before, despite owning my Epson 3800 for over two years! Of course, I could have read the manual ....
The human brain is a puzzling thing. I don't think I'm stupid but I'd always ruled out the use of full bleed items in any of my amateur graphic design work as I didn't fancy printing everything on A3 just to cut it down to A4 (I use folded A4 to create an A5 brochure). I totally forgot my inkjet printer's capability to make borderless photographic prints. It's as if my brain was divided into a graphic arts compartment and a photographic compartment.
Quite by accident, your comments have made both halves of my brain talk to one another and now my cover design benefits from the use of full bleed. I can't thank you enough!
    David
