Printing with HP printer

Hi,
I am new to mac !
I am using an HP C3180 printer, when printing there don't seem to be any options to print in black only or any other printing options. Can anyone tell me where i can set the options / format / colours etc for any prints ?

anything printed with firefox prints too small. If I print and email it prints in the center top of the page and is just larger than a credit card. if I adjust the scale to 100% the it prints what could fit on one page onto 4 pages and prints a small portion in the center top of the page and is just larger than a credit card.

Ok i think i fixed this issues.
i went to about:config print.print_margin_bottom (and also left, right and top) and right clicked reset (it took out the previous 0.5 value). now the pages look normal on print preview without the large margin

Printing with SMC4007ABR Print Server to PostScript Printer

I've just set up my Mac Mini in a new network configuration, with an old SMC4007ABR router/print server printing to my Ricoh Laser AP2100 printer, using IPP printing and the configuration for a Generic PostScript printer, which had worked for this printer in previous setups. I am using the IP address of the router, 192.168.2.1, and the queue name specified in the documentation "lpt1". When I log into the router to view the status page it says the printer is idle and ready. When I submit a print job, I get the message "Network host '192.168.2.1' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...".
I have tried deleting the printer queue and recreating it, using the queue name with upper case, using the queue name specified for use with Windoze ("LP"), changing the router configuration from DHCP to manual IP assignments and back again, resetting the print system from the Printer Setup Utility, using the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631/ to modify the printer setup in any sane way I could think of. I have looked at anything I could find in this forum that seemed relevant, but haven't found anything to try which I haven't tried. I have tried the SMC technical support system, but the router is no longer supported by them, but by another firm which charges per incident, and doesn't support Macintosh.
I would appreciate any suggestions from people who know idiosyncracies of this router, or who have fruitful insights into this strange behavior. Clearly my Mini sees the printer queue, but not well enough to be able to transmit data to it. Thanks for any insights you can offer.

Thanks very much for your response. It seems I was ignoring the answer in some of the posts I was looking at, having misjudged that they were applying to a different sort of situation. I can't even remember what set of instructions from years ago established such a strong prejudice that I needed the IPP protocol. In any case, I'm grateful for your help.

Batch Printing with Desktop Printer

I have been batch printing with a desktop printer to a ethernet connected xerox phaser printer. The files are doc files that I drop onto the desktop printer to automatically print anywhere from 10-30 files at a time. I either use TextEdit or Pages as the default program for the files so I do not have to deal with the print dialog box that comes up with Microsoft Word. My problem is that if I send 20 files for example, only a certain number of them will actually print and the job of printing all of them is not completed. It appears random. Sometimes it may get through 5 and othertimes 15 files before it stops. There is no error message and it seems as if everything was sent to the xerox printer fine...
Any advise would be appreciated

I spoke with Xerox support. They suggest typing your printers IP address in a browser, clicking on PROPERTIES, select GENERAL from the file menu on the left, then select PRINTER DEFAULTS. Change Timeout Settings from a default of 120 to 999.
Apparently the printer drops info if it takes longer than a specific duration so if there is network traffic or a large number of files are being sent all at once.
I just changed my settings so we shall see if this works

White fonts on black background printing with zebra printer

Hello,
I've created a label in Adobe forms, which should be printed with a ZEBRA 220XiIII plus.In the label there is a text that should be printed in white fonts on a black background. The problem is that when I print the label, the white text is not printed, I have only a black background. The print preview is ok, and if I print the label on a laser printer it is ok too.
Does someone have any idea?

Print with laser printer

Hi everyone,
I'm developing an application that should print its JTexPane with 'Arial Unicode' font. I use a styled document. When I print with a deskjet, there isno problem ,my text is perfectly rendered.
But, when I print with the laser printer, the text is always in bold. This printer doesn't accept 'Arial Unicode' in its properties. I have to be able to print unicode font (chinese, ...) and the printer doesn't have any unicode font in its settings...
Is there anything I can do ?

I am also experiencing similar problems. I am trying to print a JEditorPane rendered HTML-document. On screen it looks good, but when sending it to either a PDFCreator or printer, bold and italic text looks really wierd. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I can post some code or the PDF file if someone wants to see it.

How to use AE for wireless printing with Ethernet Printer?

Hi all,
I have been using my AE connected to a printer via USB for printing but have now replaced my printer with another model that only has Ethernet connections.
Can someone please explain how to set up the AE so that I can print? I can get so far but seem to be doing something wrong somewhere. Here's my setup:
Mix of Macs and PC's using Airport Time Capsule for wireless network. Currently setup as 'Create a Wireless Network'
1 x b/g Airport Express - now with Ethernet connection between AE and Printer. Currently connected as 'Join a Wireless Network'
Via 'Add Printer' I have selected 'Internet Printing Protocol - IPP' as the Protocol and added the IP address of the Airport Express '10.0.1.10' as the Address. This seems to connect OK but all I get is printer paused.
Any idea where I am going wrong please?

Sorry you are having difficulties.
Suggest that you first get the printer working with your AirPort Extreme in case the configuration on the Express may not be quite right.
I'm not familiar with the Epson products, but I do use an HP ethernet all-in-one device.
The basic "must do's" on the device include entering the printers MAC address and assigning a fixed IP address that the printer will always will receive using a DHCP Reservation on the AirPort Extreme. My all-in-one gets 10.0.1.25 It sounds like you may have done this.
After installing the printer software from the disc, you go into the Mac's System Preferencesj > Print and Fax and click the small + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list. The HP printer appeared immediately as an available printer, so click it to highlight it and then click Add at the lower right. It's been flawless since it was installed about 3 months ago.
You'll need to Add the device for each Mac computer on the network. I don't use PC's but imagine that Add Printer or Add New Device would be the way to go here.
Sometimes it helps to call the manufacturer and endure the hold for 15-20 minutes waiting for the manufacturer's tech support people.

Margin problem when printing with canon printer

When I try to print a pages document on my canon pixma ip4500 printer (which they sold me at the apple store when i bought the laptop), the bottom margin does not appear. There is a space only about half an inch under the last line of text. Everything looks fine on the screen, but i cant get to print it with a bottom margin. and i don't even know how to set it manually...
ps, the printer isnt set for a 8 1/2 by 14 sheet, it really is for a 8 1/2 by 11

That’s going to depend on what the document consists of. If it’s a single element such as a graphic or PDF, reduce the size. If it’s text, you can use a smaller point size, slightly reduce paragraph spacing, make a headline smaller, etc. If it’s text and graphic, reduce the size of the graphic(s) a little. But first, set your document margins to agree with your printer margins.

Cp1700 - Any problems with switching existing printer with stored printer?

I am having problems reading the LCD panel for my cp1700 (not all the text shows - common problem). I have another cp1700 that I have had stored for about 5 years (saving for parts. I think this "stored" printer squeaked when printing). I considered switching the LCD panels but it looks as if this is a complicated procedure. So I am wondering if I will encounter any problems with switching the printers? I will be putting in new ink cartridges but wondering if the printheads will cause a problem after being stored for so long?

This don't completely resolve your concerns, but I've had no trouble printing from OS X 10.7 to an Epson Artisan 810 connected to a Mac running OS X 10.6.8. I may even have been able to print to it wirelessly, but I can't remember. Apple issued an update to the Epson printer drivers fairly recently, which one would hope would have addressed any issues. In any case, I'd make a bootable clone of your Mac before you upgrade. If things aren't as you hope, then you can restore the clone to your main disk drive and be back with OS X 10.6.

Additional Page printed with each print

My Hp eprint 8600 prints a additional page with each print. This only occurs when I eprint from Pastel. The extra page has the following on it,"Tax Invoice number #### from Boland Dry Ice Bpk." I use Pastel Xpress Version 12 and I have Windows 7 Home Basic. I want to get rid of the extra page being printed, because it adds up to a lot of useless pages.
I have consulted with Pastel, and their customer service couldn't find any problem from Pastels side.
Maybe the subject gets printed when using Pastel....

I understand you have already addressed this issue with Pastel and you feel the issue is in some way related to the printer. I suggest running the Print and Scan Doctor. The HP Print and Scan Doctor was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers. Click here to download and run the utility.
If the Print and Scan does not find an issue, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Pastel program. I personally feel that the issue is related to the program, it seems as though something is stuck. Do you have a file on your computer related to "Tax Invoice number #### from Boland Dry Ice Bpk", or have you recently printed something similar?
If it was happening from other programs, I would suspect it was within the settings of the printer properties. There is an option there for adding or removing a separator page, but the issue you are experiencing is isolated to Pastel.

Cannot print with wireless printer

I am having issues with my wirelss printer. It worked well until a couple of weeks ago, and I don't know what has changed. I have done all the troubleshooting possible, noting is resolved. When i turn the printer on, the screen keeps saying there is an issue with a printer cartridge, there isn't that always comes up. But, it will not let me access the screen on the printer, to use the wireless wizard thing. Is there a way around this screen issue? It is a HP Photosmart D110 series printer. I don't really want to buy a new one!

Cannot print with HP printer

I'm trying to use a cheap HP Deskjet D1460 to make some quick prints...but can't get anything to print.
I've done all I can with the print presets that are available, and I have the ColorSync profile set to System Managed. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer - no luck. I'm able to export to a folder, import into iPhoto and print that way but would rather avoid doing this.
So, I'm already planning to buy a good photo printer soon - but - in the meantime, any suggestions on what to do here? Can't find any solutions in the forums....

I've checked the HP site downloads and there's not a newer driver there - so I think I have the latest. I also reinstalled the software from their site (which says it's Universal), but still no luck......

PM Shop paper cannot be print with direct "Print/Fax"

Hi everybody,
I have a issue when printing work order, the PM work order cannot be printed by clicking the "Print/Fax" button, but it can be print by clicking the button "Print" in the print preview screen. and if I deselect the "print immediately" parameter in select shop paper screen, no recorde was created in SP01.

Multi photo per page print with declared print sequence

ArchLinux discussion helped me learn that photoprint could deliver wallet sized photos by way of file manager selection and then "open in" photoprint.
when I installed photoprint I also learned that a missing print feature in gthumb resolved (hidden dependency I guess) Now for a bigger question.
What photo application allows for a declaration of printing sequence for each photo?
Every multiphoto printing tool I have seen (including the windows world) just lets you select from thumbnails and the images are default printed according to alphanumeric sorting on filename. Even other sorting filters (such as date based) . are of no use compared to a sequencing interface composed in the selection process.
Printing a small collection is all about telling a story visually and the sequence of presenting each image counts alot whatever the print size.

Select the photo and print - select the printer, paper size and print size, click customize an in the setting select multipls of a photo on a page - the preview will reflect this selection - and click print - make any printer specific selection and click print to print

Mac Printing with a printer server and Windows XP desktop

I have the following configuration:
Dell Desktop running XP
Apple iBook G4 running 10.4
Linksys Router
Linksys Print Server
I can't get my iBook to print through the print server. I have tried IP Printing and provided the printer server IP Address and correct printer driver "HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs (which I think is now part of 10.4). When I try to print I get the following message, "Printer Busy; will retry in 10 sec. I have also had Connecting to 192.168.1.78 on port 630... and nothing happens.
Any suggestions? I am at wits end because nothing is working. I know that my wireless router and print server are working because I ping'd them from the PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On windows, the setup software fills in required info like print server queue name - but we don't have that software on the Mac.
Look in the print server manual and check the supported protocols - LPD and IPP require a queue name which you can find in the manual. HP Jetdirect protocol doesn't need a queue name, and is called TCP/IP raw or socket 9100 printing in some manuals.
