Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms

Does anyone have experience with Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms?
I have generated a form, which is based on a view. The view uses the mdsys.sdo_relate operator. Somehow I am unable to get the form to perform (to get one record it takes over 20 minutes). While useing sql-navigator to process the same statement it seems no problem. The query that also uses the view, is then processed in 10 seconds.
I also noticed that when text-functions like ' lower' of ' upper' are used to query the view, the query is processed within 15 seconds. If I don't use ' lower' or ' upper' it takes a long time (> 20 minutes) to process the query. Is it possible that this causes the bad performance of the form?
On metalink I have found that forms and spatial do not cooperate because of the pl/sql version that
forms6 uses. There is no solution presented, does anyone know of a work around?
My configuration is:
Oracle 8.1.7 on WIN2K @ PIII-800Mhz 256 Mb memory.
Formsbuilder 6

1. Book - Pro Oracle Spatial for Oracle Database 11g by r. Kothuri, A. Godfrind, E. Beinat. This book provides a nice introduction on Oracle Spatial concepts and have examples.
2. Look at the Oracle Spatial & Graph User Guide
2. Book - Applying and Extending Oracle Spatial by S. Greener and S. Ravada. This book provides hands on information for advanced oracle spatial application developers. Practical guide on hands-on examples, Data models and develop cross-vendor database solutions.
3. This oracle spatial forum, once you understand these concepts.
In the future consider Certification on Oracle Spatial 11g Certified Implementation Specialist.

How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)?
The following is my configuration in the conf\mapViewerConfig.xml:

For 11.1.1.7.1 use the syntax for jdbc_sid, i.e.
//mypdb1.foo.com as described in the README,
- MapViewer native (non-container) data sources can now use database service name in place of SID. To supply a db service name, you will use the same jdbc_sid attribute, but specify the service name with double slashes in front, such as follows:

In my case the Glassfish 3.1.2.2 JDBC connection pool definition was

Uncheck the Wrap JDBC Objects option in Advanced panel, i.e. the Edit JDBC Connection Pool Advanced properties page.
Add a JDBC resource for that newly created pool
Use that in mapviewerconfig.xml as above

Developer 2000 forms for95/NT won't link my oracle 8i for 98 database, Y?

It is better to create a sequence of primary keys on a table for
eventually use for building forms and does it really not matter.
Secondly, i have oracle8i Personal edition installed in my
orahome8i area and also did managed to install Developer 2000
in this same home area but would not run.
As I could notice, does it really matter if I have installed
developer 2000 with an older version of SQLplus and whenever i
try to log into my 8i database, it comes up with a TNS bla bla
bla not found.
How do i go about getting my Developer 2000 for win95/NT to hook
up to an entirely differently installed oracle 8i for win98
database.
I have tried removing the key from the registry and deleting
some bits of my autoexec.bat file but still to no avail.
Will i be able to download a compatible version or is it just
about me.

My guess would be that you still have some remnants of your old "personal" installation, and your new Enterprise installation of 9i is finding the DLL from the old installation.
Make sure you un-install the old Oracle installation first, and delete all oracle directories for good measure.

Is there any place that I can find Oracle dateway for Oracle 10g DB on Windows 64 bit server? I can only find Gateway for Oracle 11g on Windows 32 bit server. Please help me to identify this. Thanks.

Thanks a lot. The link tells the details. It seems that Oracle has not release Gateway for Oracle database 10.2.0.x on Windows 64 bit server. Probably they don't do it.
So under this circumstance, if I want to install Gateway (32 bit) on Oracle 10.2.0.3 DB on Windows 64 bit server for Teradata, I probably have to install Gateway software in another Oracle Home, then configure it right. Please give more advice on this. 32 bit Gateway will work for 64 bit database?

Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
In command prompt type
svrmgrl and then press
connect internal/oracle and then press
startup force and then press

Oracle Spatial Datatypes and Dataguard 11g

A correction. Logical standby (SQL Apply) doesn't currently natively support spatial data types but sdo_geometry can be supported thru EDS by creating a logging table and two triggers and some manual work. Please check it out from My Oracle Support:
Note 559353.1 - Extended Datatype Support (EDS) for SQL Apply. "Extended Datatype Support (EDS) is the ability for SQL Apply to extend support for additional datatypes that are not natively supported yet by SQL Apply. EDS relies on a new capability in Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Patch Set 3 (10.2.0.4) and Oracle Database 11g Release 1 Patch Set 1 (11.1.0.7) that allows triggers to fire on the logical standby database. "

Oracle Spatial for XE 10g / APEX 3.1

I am working with the "2 Day + Developer's Guide" on my Oracle 10g XE / APEX 3.1 installation. There are the OEHR sample objects... the guide says that I need to install "Oracle Spatial" first:
"Tip: In order to successfully import the objects associated with the
OEHR Sample Objects application, your Oracle database must include
Oracle Spatial. If your database instance does not include Oracle
Spatial, you can install it using Database Configuration Assistant. To
learn more, see the Oracle Database Installation Guide for your operating
environment." (page 27, 3-5)
Does 10g XE already includes Spatial? I couldn't find it in the Oracle downloads section :-/

Clipping algorithm implemented in Oracle Spatial for SDO_INTERSECTION

Hi!
Does anybody knows which clipping algorithm is implemented in Spatial for SDO_INTERSECTION function in 10g or 11g? It's probably some of well-known algorithm (Sutherland–Hodgman, Weiler–Atherton, Vatti ...) with some modifications made to it. I'm just not sure which one. I'm doing a short presentation on Oracle Spatial clipping capabilities so that info might come in handy.

Thanks for your post. Yes, Sutherland-Hodgman is good and easy to implement if you have convex clipping polygons. However, i do not need to implement it. I just want to know which algorithm Oracle Spatial uses for clipping so I can describe it in greater detail during my presentation. :-)

How to open oracle listner for three database instances

please help me with following questions
I have 3 database instances
orcl
JIP02T
JIP04T
when i start the oracle database, does it start all 3 instances? when i start the oracle listner, does it start listner for all 3 instances?
when i echo $ORACLE_SID
[ora112@localhost admin]$ echo $ORACLE_SID
orcl
i can only see orcl and oracle listner is started only for one database instance.i can connect to only one database instance usign sql developer how can i start oracle database listner for other database instances as well

.profile creation is simple method and no need to remember SID & HOME details.(for multiple DB in one server)You don't have to "remember & manually enter oracle SID & HOME details every time after run " oraenv sets all those details for you. All you have to remember is the name of the instance you want to work with. The same thing you'd have to remember if you if you created (as you suggested) three different "profiles" - actually three different shell scripts, each to set the environment for a specific instance.
Yes, I do place "default" settings in .bash_profile. But with multiple databases the "default" settings are often not going to be what you need so you'll still have to run some process to change them. Either a home-grown script or oraenv. And either way you will have to remember the names of the instances you have to chose from. So in general I see no advantage of reinventing the wheel.

And also it is very simple method to manage three different DB in three different listener entry (for DB maintenance activity.)Not as easy as managing one default listener. Single listener in multiple instance (if listener down all DB connection will affect)And why would the listener be down? I've been working full time with Oracle since version 7.3 - somewhere around 1995. I've NEVER seen a listener fall over and die. I have seen many people on this forum whose db connections failed because they were trying (unsucessfully) to configure multiple listeners.
All of my servers are running multiple databases. I have one test server that is running close to a dozen separate databases. One listener. I've NEVER had a situation where I thought to myself, "Gee, it would really help if I had created a separate server for each database"
