Probably easy...

I have this function...
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.validators.Validator;
private function isValid():Boolean
var inValidArray:Array =
Validator.validateAll([fnameInputVal, comInputVal]);
if (inValidArray.length == 0)
return true;
else
Alert.show("There are form errors", "Invalid Data Entry");
return false;
]]>
</mx:Script>
If it returns true, I just want it to go to a state called
main. What do I type in to achieve this?

never mind... figured it out. It was easy.

Strange but probably easy problem...
I have made two pages recently. One for a company and one for
a game I'm making during my spare time. I have made them both in

The problem is that when it changes sides... On the first

just reload the text that has changed... this is how I want it to

• Migrating SQL Server DB to Oracle DB - probably EASY answer

I completed the tutorial on migrating SQL Server DB to Oracle. When I try on my own database, it all migrated well except anything containing a datetime. When I run the oracle_ctl.bat file and view any of the log files, I see Record 1: Rejected - Error on table DBO_RIVERSIDEDB_NCWCD_TEST.TS6HOUR_TAIN, column DATE_TIME.
ORA-01843: not a valid month. Do I need to change the first line of the file set NLS_DATE_FORMAT=Mon dd YYYY HH:mi:ssAM ? In the .dat file created from the unload_script.bat, the data starts out 1275<EOFD>2007-05-11 00:00:00.000<EOFD>74.900000000000006<EOFD><EOFD><EORD>1275<EOFD>. So my questions is about the date_format - is that the same for all SQL Server databases or do I need to enter something based on MY database? I am definitely a newbie so this is probably a super easy question. Thanks so much for any help!

Hello,
There are two different date format in SQL Server.
1] DateTime : 2010-08-03 12:48:15.170
2] SmallDateTime: 2010-08-03 12:48:00
Both the date will be inserted in Oracle Date column.
Is there any automated way to generate datamove script to tackle these differences? I've around 200 tables to be migrated and there may be many such cases.
The issue with Oracle SQL Developer setting i.e. Tools >Preferences> (Under) Migration> Data Move Option, there are two masks we can specify, one for Date Mask and other for Timestamp. How can I set both of these for converting data into Date, not in timestamp.
Below is my .CTL file, none of below fields are timestamp, but since incoming data in in timestamp format, it is applying timestamp mask and eventually failing to insert data into table
load data

ORDERType "DECODE(:ORDERType, CHR(00), ' ', :ORDERType)",

PARTSORDERSENT "DECODE(:PARTSORDERSENT, CHR(00), ' ', :PARTSORDERSENT)",

• Getting my first external hd -- my questions are probably easy

Hi.
The questions I have are probably pretty easy, and have probably been answered here before, but, I wouldn't even know what to put into a search to bring these answers up. . .
I'm getting my first external hd. I'm wondering if once I have some media backed-up to it, if I'll be able to use applications on my home computer disk to open the files (be able to play mp3s on the external drive in iTunes, namely). A sub-question is - would it be possible to just install my os on the external and boot from it (this isn't important, though)? Also, if any of this is possible, is it terrible to run the external all day as I do my iBook?
I guess this hd isn't even really for back-up, but for more space, really. I just don't want to try to install a new internal hd myself, I don't want to have to send my computer in, and this drive will eventually be for back-up, anyway.
One last thing. Should I just browse around the Apple online store for this hd, or could anybody point me toward someplace cheaper (looking to get one that's at least 250 GB)?
Thank you for any help in advance,
Daniel

You will be able to use your external hard drive to open files from. Example of iTunes:
* If you organise your music folder so that all music is moved to a central location you will have to move your iTunes music folder to your external drive. See:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748
* If it is set so your music stays at its current location when importing then all you have to do is import files from your External HDD.
If it is a firewire (not USB) hard disk you can install/Boot Mac OS X from it. It is fine to run OS X permanently from your external HDD although it may be a little slower than running off your internal hdd drive.
Note on new intel macs you can boot off USB drives, PPC macs like your iBook need firewire.
Good Luck!

• Some (Probably Easy) Issues I Can't Figure Out...

So I installed my new Arch Linux system today, and I am willing to say I got it 90% done. I chose KDE as my environment but I have the following issues:
1.) I have the desktop set up as a traditional desktop. Whenever I save or delete files to or from my desktop, they are still there until I rightclick the desktop and click "refresh". I had this same problem in Kubuntu (which is where I'm coming from) and the KDE 4.3.2 update fixed it, but it doesn't appear to be fixed in Arch unless I did something wrong.
2.) Whenever I install new programs, they do not show up in my KDE menu until I logout and log in again.
3.) Finally, whenever I go into kmenuedit to edit my menu I get the error "Unable to contact khotkeys. Your changes are saved, but they could not be activated". Everything appears to be working fine. (Note: I haven't actually edited my kmenu yet, when I seen that error I stopped what i was up to).
I hope you guys can help me get rid of those small but irritating problems. I'm new to Arch and I am liking what I see so far!

Could you post the list of daemons you have set to run automatically at startup? (probably this will be the last line or two of your /etc/rc.conf )

• Two questions about FLV- probably easy!

Hi!
I'm having some fun using the flash video features in F8Pro
and have a few questions:
Using the MediaPlayback component:
1. How do I get the movie to play at full size in the
available window? The FLV is 320x240, the component is also sized
at 320X240- but the video plays at a smaller size in the area above
the controls. How can I get it to take up 100% of the available
play area?
2. Is there a way to load/unload a graphic instead of having
a blank, black screen sitting there at the beginning?
Using FLV (I'd rather use this format because of video size):
1. I have the FLV on the stage and want to load a graphic

Hi,
I have two tables in a view. The second table changes the content according to the leadselection-row in first table. This is easy to realize with normal table , but how can I realize this with ALV?
For this jut make a method of event handler type and select event as ON_LEAD_SELECT. Now in this method get the lead selected values by simply reading the node with help of code wizard. You'll get the lead selected values in a work area. Now use this work area to get the required values in the node which you want to display in the other ALV. To display the lead selected data in another ALV, you need to add alv component twice. Now bind the node which has the data extracted with the help of lead selected data with that DATA node of second ALV component.
I hope it helps.

• 1.5 tracks in newly installed XP have delay (probably easy fix)

I just switched from Windows 7 to XP because the former was crashing three times a day. Anyway, I just started from scratch, and I'm pretty sure I downloaded the right drivers and everything.
What happens is any track I put in over a drum track SLOWLY becomes more and more off. It starts out recording fine, then it eventually just gets completely off-kilter from the drum track.
I have a great laptop that has run well for the past three years doing this 50-track projects. 1.7GB duo dual core, 3GB. Nothing running in the background, everything else goes smoothly. Any ideas on what it could be? Adjustments I can make? (Because the buffer stuff is pretty confusing.)
Thanks guys.

It may well be an easy fix, if it's AA1.5. Either hit F4, or go to Options>Settings and then the Multitrack tab. Make sure that there's a check in both
Correct for Drift in Recordings, and
Correct for Start Sync in Recordings
... and try again. Hopefully this will fix your problem.

• NullPointerException question (probably easy)

Hi,
I am currently using a JDK 1.2 release from 1999 or so.
In a class, I have an array:
class foo {
double bar[];
In a method, I populate the array:
void foobar ()
bar = new double[13];
bar[0] = 0.0;
... // all 13 elements assigned values
Nothing else touches the array.
I instantiate the class as "g" and call g.foobar()
As soon as it returns, g.bar is null. Referencing it gives NullPointerException.
help?
the bug database comes back with too many hits to look through for NullPointerException. I've encountered this bug before, usually able to work around it, not this time. The class implements a bunch of gradients for a nonlinear programming (NLP) problem. I can send anyone who is interested the source.
I probably just need a patch. Can someone point me toward one?

import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
class find2 {
double bar[];
void foobar(){
bar = new double[13];
for(int i=0;i<13;i++){
bar[i] = i*1.1;
public static void main (String args[]){
find2 g = new find2();
g.foobar();//comment this line and see
for(int j=0;j<g.bar.length;j++){
System.out.println(g.bar[j]);
for(int j=0;j<g.bar.length;j++){
System.out.println(g.bar[j]);
}i just tried this little program, i just initialized as you have done in the foobar() method, U can see, if in the main program, if you comment out the line g.foobar(); then it throws a nullpointerException, otherwise it will not, so, i guess you are not calling the method before trying to access the bar values

• Probably easy to solve

Ok, I have made a JFileChooser, and it pop onto the screen and everything. But, when I press open I get a NullPointerException for some odd reason. But, I think it is b/c of the question I'm about to ask. If I wanted to load a picture to a JPanel would I simple just use:
this.getImage(this.getDocumentBase(), this.getParameter()); or, would I use some other code? I know that this is probably a lame question, but I need help. Thanks.

I've just messed about with this problem and the answer is to add a JScrollPane to the JPanel. The scrollpane then has a scrollablePicture added to it. (see the link below)
File img = new File(<file returned from the JFileChooser>);
ImageIcon ii = new ImageIcon(img.getAbsolutePath());
originalPicture = new ScrollablePicture(ii, 10, imageFile, 1.0, 1.0);
originalScrollPanel = new JScrollPane(originalPicture);
imagePanel.add(originalScrollPanel, BorderLayout.WEST);
If you want Scrollbars then add them. If not then don't add them. Not having the scrollbar makes the fitting of the image into the JPanel tricky.

• Single shot analog output: How to pulse this. Probably easy, I'm at a loss.

Hello.
I have a piece of machinery that my system is connected to. Every time it reaches a proximity sensor (It's a reciprocating unit), I need to do a single pulse of 5v out of my analog output. It has to be fast, it has to stop until the sensor is reached again, and it can't stay 'on' for long.
I've attached my VI. I'm using a voltage input via DAQ assistant, routed through some logic to produce a 'true' boolean every time that sensor is reached, and that boolean is connected to a case structure with voltage out tasks created in DAQmx.
My problem is that the machine won't reverse while the case is still true and there's still the 5v being called by the true case on the case structure. It has to pulse, then stop, then be allowed to come back when the proximity sensor is reached again. As it is now, the machine reaches the prox and then the whole system stops, as the 'true' condition on the case structure, and subsequent voltage output, remain high.
I've attached the VI and heirarchy as well.
I've tried a few different things here, as well as just using a DAQ assistant with N samples, but that would just retrigger when the loop repeats anyway.
I'd love to sit and bang my head against this til I get it, but I'm under a time constraint. Help!

Ralph, without knowing the exact DAQ card that you are using, it is difficult to give you the best solution. If you want to continue with the solution that you currently have, try adding a shift register to the outer while loop to track the previous value of the boolean. In this way, we can keep multiple values that are above the threshold from causing multiple pulses. Next add a time delay after the DAQmx Write, then add another DAQmx Write to set the output back to your low value. Remove all code from your "false" case. See attached VIs. Please let us know what model of DAQ card you have as we may be able to do something clever like a retriggerable pulse train if your card can support it.

• When you get a new computer how do I put on my iTunes library - I do have it all backed up to the cloud. I am not a technical person so this is probably easy for someone but not me! Any help would be much appreciated

• Suspend to ram Dell insipron 6000 (probably easy)

Hey,
I'm having some basic problems with the whole suspend to ram operation. As a new user to configuring this by hand, I'm a bit lost at where I should start. So this is what I have so far.
I have installed Klaptop, and it has the suspend option, but after suspending, it doesn't resume. (It powers back on to a black screen only where I can't do anything)
I have installed pm-utils. pm-suspend suspends the computer and then on resume just goes to the same black screen like klaptop does.
My daemons are
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng cpufreq !network netfs crond kdm dbus hal dhcdbd networkmanager autofs keytouchd)
and my modules are
MODULES=(b44 mii acpi_cpufreq cpufreq_stats cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_conservative cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_userspace ipw2200 ac97_bus snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-ac97-codec snd-intel8x0 snd-intel8x0m soundcore i8k)
I don't think I've configured enough files or something like that. Are there any files in /etc/ that I should be modding to get suspend to ram to work properly? Is there anything wrong with my daemons or modules?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give,
e^1

I've got suspend and hibernate to work with pm-utils (and kpowersave-devel) on a Dell Inspiron 6400 about 80% of the way, and I'm appending my install notes on this. Perhaps they'll help you. This new power management scheme looks like a convoluted mess to me, and I'm still flailing with it.
Also see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=37493
--- How to configure Arch for power management on Dell Inspiron 6400 ---
1. Install acpid, pm-utils and cpufrequtils, i.e. # pacman -S acpid pm-utils cpufrequtils
Add 'acpid' to the list of DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf. If you already have hal specified in your DAEMONS, there is no need to add acpid. HAL will automatically detect and load the acpid daemon.
Both pm-suspend (suspend2ram, low power state) and pm-hibernate (suspend2disk, system powered down completely) are usually called from HAL, e.g. initiated by the desktop applet kpowersave.
They can be run in several ways:
a. Via buttons or shortcuts (e.g. Fn-ESC for Standby, Fn-F1 for Hibernate)
b. From KPowersave in task bar
c. Or, without using HAL and other frameworks, call pm-suspend or pm-hibernate from the command line as root:
# pm-suspend
# pm-hibernate
2. Configure pm-hibernate (suspend2disk):
When the machine is placed into hibernation, it will move all data from RAM to the swap partition (swap size must be >= RAM). Edit the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst by adding 'resume=path_to_swap_partition', e.g.
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2 resume=/dev/sda5 ro vga=791
3. Configure cpufrequtils:
a. Add the driver "acpi-cpufreq" to the MODULES list in /etc/rc.conf.
b. Load a governor(s) (a pre-configured power scheme, loaded as a kernel module) by adding 'cpufreq_ondemand' or 'cpufreq_powersave' etc. to the MODULES list in /etc/rc.conf.
c. Edit /etc/conf.d/cpufreq to include valid governor(s) and the proper freqs for your CPU (get these values by running $ cpufreq-info), e.g.
governor="ondemand"
min_freq="1GHz"
max_freq="1.67GHz"
d. Add 'cpufreq' to the list of DAEMONs in /etc/rc.conf (after 'hal').
e. In /etc/pm/config.d/ create a file 'config' and in it list the modules to be unloaded before suspend, e.g.
SUSPEND_MODULES=" button uhci_hcd"
5. If applicable, change the labels for the power and sleep buttons in /etc/acpi/handler.sh.
E.g. in Dell Inspiron 6400 replace PWRF with PBTN and replace SLPB with SBTN.
6. Configure proper handling of lid closure by editing the button/lid section in etc/acpi/handler.sh.
I don't know how to do that as yet but the following hack at least will allow you to close the lid after putting the laptop on Standby and have the screen come back to life after resuming, rather than having it remain black.
Put the following shell script '000hacks' into /etc/pm/sleep.d/ and make it executable (you'll have to install vbetool):
#!/bin/bash
case $1 in
suspend)
chvt 1
vbetool vbestate save > /tmp/vbe
resume)
vbetool post
vbetool vbestate restore < /tmp/vbe
chvt 7
esac
7. Read Arch wikis:

Only front left + front right are working for all of my applications (so far have tested ABSYNTH3 and a couple DVD programs)
I'm sure this has come up before!

thanks :]

Check the settings on your dvd program to make sure it is on 5.1
Also not all programs/games use 5.1 so that could be why ther is no output from some

• Small, Probably Easy Question About LaunchDaemons/LaunchAgents

Can the "weekday" value in "StartCalendarInterval" take multiple values?
In other words, if I want a LaunchAgent or LaunchDaemon to run every weekday, can I create just one that has the value "1,2,3,4,5" for "weekday"? Or do I need to create five separate ones, one for each weekday of the week?

I'm no expert but try setting the start intervals to an array of dictionaries rather than a single dictionary.
