I had the same problem. I've even tried reinstalling osx.
    the solution is to delete
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    in
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
then reboot. The file is recreated and iCloud works again.

  • Iphone 4 will not backup with Icloud.

I have Iphone4.  When I backup with Icloud the bar starts across then quits.  It says "the last backup could not be completed" but gives no reason.  My Ipad, wife's Iphone 4s and Ipad 2 all backup successfully.

  • HT5262 if I backup with icloud, does that mean I do not need to sync on computer anymore

If I backup with icloud, does that mean I do not need to snyc on computer anymore?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Syncing does more than just back up to iTunes, it depends what you were using the sync to do, if you sync content between your device and iTunes you would need to continue syncing to acheive this.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • What happens to the data in apps that you choose not to backup with iCloud?

    Hi,
I have a 64b iPad and a lot of the storage is used up with data stored inside apps. Some of these data stores are 10s of GB in size. Such as, I keep some videos on my iPad that I play with VLC player. When I upgraded the iPad to iOS5 and activated iCloud backup, it immediately told me there wasn't enough room to back up my iPad entirely. I turned off backing up certain apps, such as VLC.
What happens to these apps? Are they still backed up during regular syncs with your Mac?

when you plug into itunes you can backup to both locations (icloud and locally) just not a the same time. When you click on your phone in itunes you'll see this option
click icloud then sync (will backup to icloud when you sync)
    afterwords
click back to this computer and sync
keep in mind that if icloud has a 5GB backup limite unless you upgrade it
    10GB — $20/year
    25GB — $40/year
    50GB — $100/year
    edit: forgot to say
if you don't sync with itunes to the computer then whatever doesn't go to icloud is not backed up at all.

  • IPhone backup with iCloud not found

I backed up my iPhone with iCloud, and when I got a new phone, it couldn't find the backup when I logged into iCloud.  How can I find my backup?

Your new phone has to be running the same version of iOS or higher than the version on your old phone in order to restore the backup.  If it is running an earlier version or iOS you won't see the backup.  If that's the case you will have to update your phone before you can use the backup.
Also, not sure if you're aware of this, but you can only access your iCloud backup when you first set up the phone.  If it's already set up, you'll have to go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go back through the setup process, and when given the option choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • How to restore iTunes backup with iCloud overwriting everything

I'm trying to restore my iPhone 5s from a iTunes backup however my iCloud is overwriting the restore immediately. My contacts are missing from iCloud, can anyone help

Turn off your wifi, when the device comes up you have a very short window to go to settings, Wifi , turn off wifi before it will sync with iCloud; literally...you have to beat the clock.
Either that, or reset the password to your iCloud account so your device CAN'T sync with it

  • Unable to sign in because of a problem communicating with iCloud.

About 2 weeks ago this error popped-up at random. Since then I have not been able to sign-in to iCloud or download applications from the Apps store.  The same AppleID (and password) works fine on my iPad for iCloud and the App store for iPad.  Obviously I would like to try and upgrade my OS to see if that might fix the problem, but I can't because I can't download anything from the App store.  Please advise.  I haven't installed any software on this computer in ages so there were no changes to the computer prior to the error message popping up.  Thanks.

    You might try the following.
    1. Sign out of your account
(If you are unable to do this because System Preferences has frozen, Force Quit System Preferences and try again)
    2. When prompted, opt to delete, contacts, calendars etc from your Mac.
(You are only deleting this data from your Mac, not from iCloud, the data will be reinstated when you log back in. If you need to check that the data is in iCloud before deleting it go to iCloud.com and check each section for data)
    3. Having logged out, check that the iCloud accounts along with their data have disappeared from the Mail, Address Book and iCal Applications.
(If necessary, delete the iCloud accounts from each of these application separately from each Applications Preferences)
    4. At this point it may be worth trying to log into iCloud from the System Preferences iCloud settings again, if this works, all well and good, if it doesn't continue to step 5.
    5. Open your User Library folder in the Finder. (When in the Finder, go to the Go menu, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library when it appears in the Go menu)
    6. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iCloud and drag the iCloud folder to your desktop. (This action only copies the folder and will provide you with a back up)
    7. Select the iCloud folder again in Library > Application Support and drag it to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. You should now be able to enter your ID and Password in system Preferences > iCloud and log into your account. Check the services you wish to use and once you are satisfied it's working as it should, trash the iCloud folder you copied to your desktop earlier.

  • Problems syncing with iCloud

This might be a big question.
Just upgraded to Lion and iOS 5 on all devices. We run both our accounts from a single iMac. I have managed after lots of button pushing to get iCloud to sync my Calendars but cannot get it to do the same  on my wifes. Any thoughts from you guys please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that all calendars are in the iCloud group/account and not in the on my mac group/account, only iCloud calendars will sync. (click the calendar button top left corner, to see your calendars and groups/accounts).

  • Contacts lost in first attemp to backup iphone 4 with icloud

    Hello everybody.
Sorry if my english is not very good. I will try to do my best.
The matter is that I have lost almost all my contacts when trying to make the first backup with icloud. The only contacts I have got are aparently the ones stored in the SIM, from letter A to D... But the others? Any way, where can I find the others if the first backup was not finished because of problems of the device I do not understand?
I would like to know if I can recover any of those contacts that dissapear aparently without doing nothing, how to fix it. Maybe I have lost the contacts forever...
    Thank you community.

Nope. I have a phone only service.
I am currently trying a force reset. I found out, using "The Google", that I can do that by releasing the top button while doing a force restart and keeping the home button down. I have been able to reset the phone and am doing a restore now. Mind you, it won't help if that **** iCloud window pops up again....

I keep trying to sign into iCloud on my system preferences but it keeps saying that its unable to sign in because of a problem communicationg with iCloud, and i've tried to create a new account but then it says i cant create one at this time.

Welcome to the Apple Community Abbey.
Try the following, it won't cause any problems if it it doesn't work...
Navigate to Macintosh HD > library > preferences > system configuration and drag the 'Networkinterfaces.plist' file to the trash and restart the mac. Now try again.
