Problem burning to DVD

I am trying to burn some photos to a DVD. I have them in a folder on my desktop and, using right click, selected burn folder.  It didn't work and I got the message:-
The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
I then tried inserting the blank DVD and dragging the files across from the photo folder.  This seemed to work i.e. I could see the photos (and they opened) on the DVD (from Finder) but, when I tried to eject the DVD, I had to burn these to the DVD and got the following error message:
The disc can’t be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E).
After the blank disk ejected I put it back in, but then the message said something about being unable to read the DVD.
I just want to burn some photos to DVD - any ideas what the problem is?
I am not a techie, so maybe it's just me!
I have an iMac 27" late 2009
2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary, that's an infamous problem on Macs.
Sometimes using a Cleaning CD helps, sometimes different Media, I have no luck with Sony, but Verbatim seems to work, also might try a slower burn speed using Burn.app...
http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
Sometimes a PRAM Reset helps...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

  • Problem burning a DVD

I just recently got a MacBook, and am loving it so far. However, I have encountered my first problem. I was burning a DVD using iDVD, and after about a minute, it got very, very noisy, and made unusual noises as well, not what I was used to hearing while DVDs or CDs were playing/being ripped to my computer. I left it, but after about 18 minutes, my computer froze. I was running Safari and had iTunes open, but wasn't playing anything. My pointer froze, and I couldn't do anything. I pressed command, option, esc, and tried to force quit iDVD, but it just flashed the box saying this would lose unsaved info and then nothing happened. I tried a second time, and then I tried pushing the eject button, but again, nothing. So I ended up restarting my computer. The DVD was ejected when the computer restarted. I am going to put the DVD in another player to see if it burned, but I was wondering if this is normal, or if I should not run any other apps while burning DVDs? Also, is it normal for it to make a large amount of noise? Thanks for the help!

Please quit iDvd. Restart the mac. And run and Extended Hardware Test (from the Apple Hardware Test CD that hopefully shipped with your recent purchase).
Click here /Mine looks like this:
Remember: Not the quick test but rather an Extended Hardware Test.
    Post the results here please.

  • Problems burning a dvd backup in Mac OS X tiger

hi I have some problems to burn a dvd in my mac, when its burning the dvd for some reason the system reboots I'm trying burning with the finder and the computer its a G5 have an OS X tiger 10.4.11 running in an Intel processor box, with two user accounts, the admin and an other one who's have no admin permission I m login into this account when I tried to burn the dvd I dont know if the permission have something about because with the admin account it works great
so thats my problem if you have an Idea please help me guys
    thanks for your time

it's a DVD+R media disc. In Finder I can see the
files on the disc, there's a folder Audio_TS and
VIdeo_TS. There's .VOB, .IFO, .BUP files in the
Video_TS folder and there are no files in the
    Audio_TS folder.
The folders and files sound correct (the Audio_TS folder should be empty).
Try launching Apple's DVD Player application in the Application Folder. It should give you the option to open a DVD (I think that's what the new version of Player says - the old version used to say to open the VIDEO_TS Folder)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Reduce your burn speed to 1/2 the Rating of the Media.
    Disc Burner
If more than one supported disc burner is connected to your computer, choose one from the menu.
    Preferred Speed
When you burn a CD, iTunes automatically uses the best recording speed for the CD. However, if your blank CD is rated for a slower speed than the maximum speed of your drive, or if you experience problems creating CDs, you may want to change the recording speed to match the CD’s rating.
    Disc Format
Choose the type of disc you want to burn: Audio CD; MP3 CD; or Data CD or DVD.
    Gap Between Songs
Choose the amount of silence, if any, between songs.
    Use Sound Check
To have all songs on the disc play at the same volume, select this option.
    Include CD Text
To include information that CD players in some vehicles can display, select this option.

  • Problems burning a DVD Movie/Warning Message

#1...I had no problem at all downloading a movie from my camcorder, editing, making chapters,,but when I tried to burn a DVD, it showed a Warning Message: "There were warnings dring the project validation. It is recommended to fix these problems before burning."
Does Anyone Know how to Fix the problems? I am Clueless and no help with the help files. My system is about 6 years old, could be it's not fit to burn DVD's..
I am needing to learn to do these DVD's, I want to make more.
I have had to have a friend burn some for me.
    Now, next question:
How do I network two computers together so I can transfer files, movies etc... My brother has a New iMac, Fancy New one with all kind of good stuff... I know he has iLife06..
I believe his has a DVD burner...
How fast does a DVD burner work on one DVD, if the Movie is about 85 minutes long.
What equipment or tools does one need to hook up two computers together?
    thank you,
    sue

    hi newsue:

  • Problems Burning To DVD

I'm trying to use the share/burn option to create a backup of al the pictures in my library from last year, but it doesn't seem to work. Hopefully I'm doing something wrong... Here's how I do it:
    1) In the events view, click on the search options list (the bit ext to the search text box with options for date, keyword, rating and all), and select date, then click on the 2007 at the top of the pop up box. This selects the correct photos.
    2) I then select all the photos (using cmd-A), and this shows the right number of pictures in the right number of events, about 3.7 GB in total.
    3) When I click on the burn icon, it does the burn, but only actually burns one of the events from 2007, none of the others are there .
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

    Dave:
I've not tried to burn it that way but you might try dragging all of those 2007 photos into an album, name the album, select it and burn. You should still get all of the events that the photos are in as well as that album. I don't know why you're only getting the one event but it might have something to do with burning from the search window. Where in the search window are the photos located that get burned, at the top of the list?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problem Burning DL DVD on 24" iMac

When ever i try to burn a DL DVD in iDVD on my new iMac the disc always ejects right when it says writing Lead In but nothing ever happens to the disc. Im burning the project in best quality with 1.1 GB left on the disc. I can burn a SL DVD fine but DL just seems to eject right before the Burn Process with no error messages. I've used the same discs in a Mac Mini for a DL burn and they burned successfully. If anyone knows anything about this, it would be very helpful!
    Thanks!

I trashed the pref file and everything works!

  • Problem burning a DVD from my imovie

I made an imovie from my vacation. Then on my one to one lessons, they told me to share-media browser. I did that. It took hours. Then I put the movie in the themes and was told to just burn it. I told them twice that when it starts to burn, it stops when it comes to the slideshow button and it says there is an error. I did insert photos in my movie. I am wondering if I'm supposed to do something to my movie before I share it. The last helper told me that it would burn and the slideshow thing wouldn't happen. But it did. Help!

  • Problem Burning Data DVD's(Different than the big topic, I assure you)

So iTunes is recognizing my discs fine, it says you have inserted a blank disc and all that hoopla, but when I click burn it just goes back and forth rapidly between "burning disc.... initializing" and "Insert Blank Disc".
I have updated iTunes, reset Nero burn rights, restarted computer, tried different discs, restarted the burner, tried putting it in a new playlist(I know about the weird characters thing) etc....
The discs burn fine with Nero, and iTunes it detecting them okay, it's just a weird freak thing.
ANY help at all would be IMMENSLY appreciated.
I'm trying to back up my library btw.

Now I'm getting "Error 1771", does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Why doesn't my iMac burn printable DVDs?

    My iMac:
    27-inch, Late 2009

    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

      Appendable:          Yes
      Write Speeds:          2x, 4x, 6x, 8x
    My issue:
I have had no issues burning CDs and DVDs before. I recently bought a new printer that prints onto DVDs, so I bought some generic printable DVD-RWs and tried to burn from iDVD. The process seems to start ok, but stops about 1 minute into the actual burn and spits the DVD out of the drive. No error message, but this screen remains...
Just to check that my Superdrive was still working, I then tried a non-printable TDK DVD+R and a non-printable Kodak DVD-R and burned with no issues.
I decided it must be the generic printable DVDs, so I bought some printable imation DVD-Rs, but these will not work either.
Is there a known issue with printable DVDs or do I just need to keep trying different brands until I find one that works?

It may be the layer they have and your Superdrive - it may not like the different "feel" of printable media. I don't think iDVD has anything to do with it.
Take a look at these which I found googling:

  • Firmware for PSE burn cd/dvd

When I go to burn a cd/dvd with PSE 6, it says I might need an upgrade to the latest appropriate firmware for teh disc drive.
Has anyone had to download firmware when using PSE6 to burn a cd/dvd???
    thanks for any help.
    dee

If the Firmware is not upgraded, PSE would require the firmware to be upgraded. Without upgrading the firmware, you might face problem burning CD/DVD using external application as well.

  • DVD error after burning Video DVDs

    Hello anyone,
I am using my T500 with WinXP SP2 as an mobile editing system. Unfortunately I experienced some problems burning Video DVDs on the installed HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N drive. Eventhough the final DVDs work sofar on all PCs and Apple systems that I have tested but they don't work on some standalone DVD Players. The same disc image, burned on a different PC produces correct DVDs though. I update the drive's firmware but no difference, lowered the speed again no difference. Used NERO 6 and cloneDVD same poor result.
    Would appreciate help
    thanks in advance

when you say different PC, did you burn it in a PC dvd burner or a laptop dvd burner??? Have you tried to change the brand of the dvd burnable to see whether it might solve the problem??

  • Re: problem burning multiple discs from iDVD

I am having a problem burning multiple DVDs. My first DVD burns fine but my second one won't complete the process. It stays in the "BURN PROCESS Current Operation: Writing Lead-Out..." phase for hours without ever completing the burn. I am using good quality Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R blank discs. Can anyone offer any advice/solutions? Thanks!

    Hi
Double Click on the hard disk up righthand side of Your desktop. Often named
    Macintosh HD.
At the bottom of this new window it reads nn Objects and xx.xx Gb free space.
    Else:
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
    Many possible origins. Most common:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disc if it is less than 10Gb should raher have 25Gb
    • Hard disc is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disc (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - or rather start a new account - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.3, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.3 - is OK
