Problem connecting Apple TV2 to projector when passing through Sony Sound Bar
I'm having problems getting my Apple TV2 to work now that I'm passing it through my new Sony HT-CT150 Sound Bar to my Epson Megaplex Projector MG-850 (720p) Projector. I keep getting a "Not Supported" error on my projector - as opposed to a "No Signal" error which is what happens if I was to unplug the Apple TV.
My HDMI cables are all new and latest specs. I can connect the Apple TV directly to projector with either cable and it works fine. I have a 6 ft HDMI connecting the Apple TV to one of the Sony Sound Bar's 3 HDMI inputs and then a 40 ft. HDMI running from the sound bar's HDMI out to the projector's single HDMI input. Oddly, if I reverse the cables, it seems to work. Same two cables - just switching which one is connected to the Apple TV and which is connected to the projector. (I need the length to get to where my projector is positioned. Though I might be able to get by with a 30 ft. cable if length might be the issue.)
Anyway I think it must have something to do with the HDMI handshake or the lenth of the cables but don't know enough about it and have no idea why switching which cable comes first would fix the problem.
Ok, I will ask the question in another way... My apple tv has one hdmi, and it goes to my hd projecter.. But projecter has no speakers, and as a result I've no sound at the moment. I am looking for a clear direction to go in, to solve lack the of any sound.. My only option seems to be, using the optical out from the apple tv.. I don't have any equipment with this conecter. And I've never used optical before.. If i buy an, optical to twin phono converter and then I can plug into a large powered speaker I've got in my living room. And I will have big sound easily..?? Do I have any other reasonable options for optical enabled speakers, or AirPlay speakers or something simple I'm not aware of that will give me sound easily.. I don't want a messy 5:1 system, my house is very tidy, and I want to keep it that way. . Only having this optical out is frustrating, and I need to get my head round the options I have. Anyone understand from experience how to use the optical apple tv out. Also, not using anything but apple tv, no dvds, or tv , just apple tv and my ipad.. Is very quiet in my home right now though. My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it.
My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!
Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying. Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists. Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again. Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance. If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.

My Apple TV2 keeps resetting when watching NETFLIX. This started about one week ago. I can watch fine from my MAC. Both are hardwired to my Aiport network.
Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
Good Luck - Cheers,

Ive got an apple tv, and a new hd projecter. I've now got a huge lovely picture on the wall, but I've zero sound.... The projector has no output for sound, and is conected by hdmi...which leaves me with one option. Using the optical out from apple tv, now i have no idea. Will this optical output work when hdmi is sending sound to projector ? What I need is the best option to use optical out.. I would have prefered a simple phono out, and then I can plug into a big active speaker im using in the room, I owne nothing with optical connections... So what do buy ? Ric

How do I connect Apple TV2 to an older TV?
Hi Apple Community
I just bought 2 Apple TV2s, one for my family room and one for my bedroom. My family room TV is a late generation Sony WEGA (Trinitron/CRT) with a YPbPr (RGB RCA) port in the back of it. I knew that AppleTV2 did not have a component video connection, so I bought a cheap HDMI to component signal converter to connect to the YPbPr port.
Well, when i connected everything up all I get are crazy lines on the screen (clearly there is a signal translation issue). In theory everything should have worked. I am sure this issue has come up for others in the community - is there an HDMI converter box that you would recommend that will work in this situation? I looked online and there seem to be half a dozen candidates, but I'd like to get an opinion from this forum. Any thoughts?
DudeI'm not really willing to recommend any converters since most of them will run into an issue with HDCP which is included in iTunes content purchased and rented from the iTMS since component doesn't support HDCP. Any conversion device that circumvents such copy protection cannot be discussed in these forums under it's terms of Use.
I have one thought about the converter you have purchased, check that your TV is YPbPr and not YCbCr. -
How to connect apple tv2 to receiver
Apple tv is connected to tv via hdmi - working perfectly. But i would like to connect apple tv to my receiver as well - for surround sound on movies and for streaming audio from the computer.
My receiver has 3 optical ports in addition to the DVD coax ( CD, CDR and TV) which one do i use to connect from apple tv - none seem to work.
Apple TV set to dolby output.
receiver digital in is turned on
No sound from the receiver
Help!Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to use one of the optical ports.
Are you sure they are optical ports.
Are you sure you are matching the input to the output correctly on the receiver.
Have you tried adjusting the audio out and Dolby digital settings on the Apple TV. -
Installed OSX 10.9.5 on three MacBookPRO's now all of them have lost access to our Windows 2003 Server. I get the message "There was a problem connecting to the server "SERVER". Note this was previously connecting with 10.9.4.
I understand 10.9.5 was giving us improvements in the reliability of SMB2 but this is now much worse.

How to connect apple tv to older tv's through dvd player?
Is there a way to connect the apple tv to an older tv through a dvd player or just to the tv?
thxNo, you have to connect it to the TV. If you don't have an HDTV you would need to find a converter and HDMI is the only thing officially supported on the current model so there's no guarantee it'll work. Some have had success, others haven't

Apple TV2 unit makes an ultra-high pitch sound every 40 seconds
This just started happening about two hours ago: every 40 seconds our Apple TV2 makes this dog whistle-like sound that pierces through the whole house. Has this happened to anyone else? I have tried recording the sound but the mic on my iPhone can't pick up the sound. (btw, my wife hears it too, in case you thought I was just being crazy haha)
Looks like it was the iPad Mini that was next to my Apple TV2

Slow SFTP throughput when passed through ASA 55xx
I have an interesting scenario. I have setup two test boxes for SFTP. One in a DMZ behind an ASA inteface, and the other on our external switch. If I send a file to the one on the external switch, I get 40 Mbps on a transfer from a remote location. When I try the same transfer but using a machine in the same DMZ, I get 100 Mbps while connected to a FastEthernet switchport. When I try the same transfer from the remote location previously mentioned, to the same server even, but using SFTP, my throughput goes down to 670 KB/s. I get that same low speed even on the machine on the external switch to the DMZ. It should be much faster since there is no latency involved. It just goes to the switch to the ASA interface to the SFTP server. I even tried this across two different ASA, same result. One was a 5505, the other a 5520.
So, it seems the only limiting factor here is the ASA. Does anyone have any observations or suggestions that might help?
Thanks!Sorry, I should have been more clear. The throughput is only reduced when the ASA is in the picture and SFTP is used. I can FTP to the same server, same application, just different protocol, and get full throughput. As soon as I select SFTP instead of FTP, the throughput drops dramatically.
I know it is not the over head on the server, because I tested an SFTP transfer from a client machine on the same LAN, and got full throughput. It is only when going through the ASA that the SFTP throughput drops by a factor of 7 -
Logging Screen Appears When Searching Through Safari/Google Bar
Hi all,
Has anyone had these" logging screens" appear on Safari when doing searches through the google bar on the top right nav bar? Seems like Big Brother is watching!
Thanks for any insight.
ChrisYes.. just starting to see this. Any ideas? It only happens when I search in Google bar. When I try with another user, doesn't happen.

How to connect Apple TV to projector and home theater system?
I have an Optoma HD20 projector that I have a long hdmi cable connected to and plugged that into my Apple TV. I also have an older home theater system that does not have an optical audio input. So I bought an adapter to go from optical audio to RCA cables. When I get it all plugged in and turned on I can't even get the video on my screen. What am I missing?
This is the adapter...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005F20756Darn. Ok. Then do you have any suggestions for other options to connect the two? My projector is mounted to the middle of the ceiling with a whole for the wires that go along inside the ceiling to the other side of the room.

This content requires HDCP for playback problem! Apple TV2
Owned Apple TV for two weeks. Two weeks ago, everything was fine for films already in my iTunes library.
This week, when selecting play on a movie, I get the message 'This content requires HDCP for playback problem' inconsistently. Some vids work, some don't. Then they do then they don't! I have tried on a Samsung TV and a Sony Bravia? Same for both!
How do I resolve this. I have tried different HDMI ports, turned Apple TV 2 off and on. Tried different cables (Although my HDMI cable is the one I purchased from Apple).
Any suggestions? Is it something Apple need to fix? This is kinda embarrassing when I tell friends how good Apple TV is, get them round to watch a movie and inconsistently get this.
Many Thanks for any help
Dave.I too sadly have this handshaking issue. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Day one buyer for ATV2. Worked all of about two days in terms of streaming HD content from either my MAC or netflix. About the third time i tried to stream HD content from Netflix or Blu Ray digital copies from my Mac, I get the HDCP compliance message stating my display is not authorized.
I have tried every concievable combination of unplugging and rebooting of TV (Samsung 2005 DLP), ATV2, and HDMI switcher (Monoprice) and nothing will work. My DirecTV HD-DVR works like a charm. If I rent an HD pay per view from DirecTV, no problem. If I rent an HD movie on iTunes, won't display it due to the HDCP issue. I've NOT ONCE had an issue with my DirecTV HDDVR having an HDCP compliance issue and of course its connected to my TV via HDMI thru my monoprice HDMI four port switch.
I guess the only other thing I could try is exchanging the unit itself. But everything else works as advertised. It feels like this is just a software issue that needs to be patched, and fast. -
Problem connecting Apple TV to my new Mac Mini iTunes libraries.
I cannot appear to connect via Apple TV to my iTunes libraries on my new Mac Mini. My other iOS devices and MacBook Pro all connect up fine. I have two accounts on my Mac Mini. One is a shadow of my Macbook Pro account and the other is a family account. On the family account, I can see the Airplay icon on the top menu bar but all it gives is the option to open Display Preferences. When I go to my Apple TV on the family account, it attempts to load the iTunes library but hangs for a long time and then states it cannot connect to account. All my software is up-to-date and I have tried a full reset on my Apple TV. On my other account, I don't even get the Airplay icon.
I am at a loss as to what is wrong.Let me clarify. The computer is on and so is Apple TV (home sharing is switched on both). On one user I see the Airplay mirroring icon (the same one that also appears on my MacBook Pro and my iPad and iPhone). Except that all I get is the "Open Display Preferences". Even in in the display preferences the AirPlay option is greyed out. I have tried resetting options on both the Apple TV and the Mac Mini but to no avail. If my other Apple devices weren't working then would think it was an Apple TV problem. however the problem seems to be in communication. As I said in my original post, the puzzling thing is that Apple TV know what iTunes library on the Mac Mini to connect (as it states it on the TV screen [and it is different to my MacBook Pro library]) and knows it exists but just won't connect to it.

How to connect Apple TV to Projector with no HDMI
I have a projector with S-video, rca, and vga connections but no HDMI. I would like to get an apple tv and use airplay with my ipad 2. Are there hdmi to rca or vga converters that will work well with Apple TV. I've searched different things but it's just confusing me.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projectoe which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p or 480p.
