Problem creating pdf from multiple files

Hello,
I'm running Windows XP SP3 with Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.2.1.  When I try to create a one pdf from multiple files in Adobe Standard 8.2.1 the application just closes.  The two files I'm trying to combine into 1 pdf file are word files.   I'm able to create a single pdf of each word file by opening them separately in word and sending them to the acrobat printer.  I've tried combining other files also, but had no luck.  Windows events doesn't log anything under applications and no error message pops up when the application closes.
Anybody have any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue or what could be causing the applicaton to just close?

I've read many discussions about Acrobat and problems with server files, with the general solution being what you are doing... copy the files to a local hard drive

  • Create PDF from Multiple Files Error

    Running Acrobat 8.1.2 and InDesign CS3 8.0.2
    When trying to create a PDF from multiple files, I am getting an error with each file as it is opened by Acrobat to create the PDF file. The error reads:
    Invalid value for parameter 'using' of event 'exportFile'. Expected PDFExportPreset, but received "Standard".
    The files are also left open in InDesign afterward instead of being closed. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
    Thanks.

    Did you upgrade your Office / Word installation?

  • Problem Creating PDF with Multiple Files in Pro. 7

    I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 on a computer with Windows XP.
    The problem is that when I try to create a PDF with multiple files everything just suddenly stops. There are 75 files involved and when it gets to around 41 or so (don't know the exact number because I turned away from my computer for just a moment), it just stops. There are no error messages; nothing. Just a blank Acrobat screen.
    Last week I had a different problem which was resolved by an uninstall/reinstall and I was able to create the PDF with those exact same 75 files, but after the PDF was created I realised that some changes needed to be made. I dumped the PDF, made the appropriate changes and left it for the weekend. Today I the new problem has arisen.
    Any ideas what the problem might be?

  • Creating PDF from multiple files results in file name AND chapter name both appearing in TOC.

    And all the bookmarks in that chapter nest directly under the file name. I would rather have just the chapter title appear with no file name in the TOC and the chapter bookmarks nested under that.

    Hi tekwrite1955,
    This is an expected behavior. When you create a pdf from any file it will list the filename in the TOC.
    You have to manually edit the bookmarks.

  • Creating PDF from multiple files

    I have dowloaded a 30 trial version of CS4. I make large PDF files from 12 x 12, 300ppi images - anywhere from 20 to 100 files. It all works great in CS2.
    It's not working at all in CS4. I see the output with choices for web or pdf and have tried using the PDF, however it didn't work. It created a file with corrupt images. I want it to work like it used to...
    Is there another way to make a pdf file? This seem to be geared toward creating preview files, not large files for professional printing.

    If you make PDF presentations out of Bridge, you are inserting compressed JPEGs into the pages with no control of compression, color management, bleeds or other Press requirements.
    You need to use InDesign for this purpose.
    A PDF containing a page-sized image and created in InDesign for Press Output made a 26 MB file;
    The same sized document created in Bridge/Presentation made a 4 MB file.
    That indicates where your image-quality went!

  • Create multiple PDFs from multiple files

    Hi everyone
    I'm trying to use the "Create multiple PDFs from multiple files" function in Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.4.6) to create about 100 PDFs from InDesign CS5 files. Theoretically this would do the trick for my purpose. BUT: When running the function, it does not use the CS5 InDesign (version 7.0.3), but tries to open the files with InDesign CS3. Of course this does not work. We, as a professional working agency, have installed CS3, CS4 and CS5. Even with making the InDesign CS3 .app invisible an pushing it into the garbage bin during the process did not work. Acrobat still wants to access InDesign CS3. It is not possible to downgrade the files to CS3 files, for there are special (i.e. interactive) functions which only work in CS5. It would be more work than creating the PDFs manually, anyways.
    Does anyone have similar issues? Any ideas how to solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    OK, cool, I found one, which seems to work just fine.

    Hi Rich,
    The combine files feature isn't available when you're using Reader for iOS. However, you can log on to the web interface at Adobe Acrobat.com using your Adobe ID and credentials, and use the Combine Files feature there.
    Please let us know if you need further assistance.

  • Acrobat 8 - Create PDF from multiple images, they all come in bigger dimension

    I have 9 TIFFS that are 1000 x 750 in size, 72 DPI. This is confirmed when I open them up in Photoshop. When I create a PDF from multiple files in Acrobat, they all come in much bigger in dimension. The resulting PDF is very big in dimensions.
    I have searched the Internet and searched the Help/Manual and can't seem to fix this.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Scot,
    Try going to Acrobat > Preferences > Page Display > Resolution and reset to 72 pixels / inch. I hope that helps!

  • Can't create PDF from Word file

    I may be missing some functionality or that functionality may not exist.
    I'm running Acrobat Pro 9.2 and MS Word 2004 (11.5) on OSX Leopard 10.5.8. I want to create a PDF from a Word file but NOT using the Print dialog. I want to either create it in Acrobat using File > Create PDF > From File or create it from within Word using the Acrobat menu/toolbar. This is so that it will end up as a tagged PDF.
    However, I don't have an Acrobat menu or toolbar in Word. I thought Acrobat was supposed to have installed these into MS Office when I installed Acrobat. And when within Acrobat if I select File > Create PDF > From File and choose a Word file, I get a message "Acrobat could not open 'filename.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged". This happens for all Word files.
    Looking in Acrobat > About Adobe Plug-Ins... under Convert2AdobePDF it says 'Loaded: no'.
    Are these two methods of converting Word files to PDFs something that can only be done in the Windows version of Acrobat? Or is there a plug-in or update I can download to install this missing functionality?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mark

    Keep your Office2004. But Office 2008 does have a way to create PDF's from within  the word and excel Programs.
    It works better than through the AdobePDF Printer, or through the Apple Print menus save as PDF. (Unless you have X.6.x Snow leopard)
    One thing it gets around is a long standing Problem Acrobat has had with word and excel since Word 6.0.1.a/Excel 5.0.1a. Acrobat doesn't know how to interpert Word Page section Breaks. Chopping up a word/excel document in to multiple PDFs that have to be merged back together. MS came up with their own PDF Converter that gets around that problem.

  • Unable to create PDF from Publisher file

    I am able to create .pdf from a .jpg, also from an .xls ... but not from a Publisher document (2007).
    I get a prompt to run in repair mode and I tried that (twice) but the problem is not being corrected.  At one point I had a message about PDFMOUTLOOK and thought I disabled it.   I tried both ways, from inside Publisher, and dire Any help will be greatly appreciated.ctly from Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro ... neither works.
    Below is the log:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%
    Stack:
    -169
    -mark-
    %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
    %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    LinK

    Interestingly, "PDFMOUTLOOK" is apparenly related to PDF Maker for Outlook. It has also been suggested to be Malware (not good). That would suggest you may have some corruption. I am not saying you do, but just what is hinted at by a web search.
    In terms of the printing process. The Adobe PDF printer creates a PS file. With Acrotray active, this PS file causes Acrotray to activate Distiller in the background and complete the conversion of the PS file to PDF. That is the basic conversion process used by Acrobat to create PDF files. Distiller is always in the picture, it just may be running in the background. If Acrotray is not active, the process will stall. Since you are seeing a Distiller log screen, your process seems to be working.
    PDF Maker is basically a preprocessor for the Adobe PDF printer. The preprocessor inserts PDF Marks into the PS file that is created to allow the conversion to PDF to include bookmarks, links, etc. My suggestion about PDF Maker (since the print process seems to work) is that there may be something in PDF Maker that is causing the problem. From the web search, it appears it may even be a virus type of aspect that hit your PDF Maker. Again, I am not saying that is the case, only suggesting it as a possibility. If you can create the PDF from the printer, then the basic process of creating PDFs is working and it is then a process of checking out the problems with PDF Maker. For that, I typically suggest turning all of the options off and then adding them back in to see what triggers the problem. You are basically in a trouble shooting mode and need to isolate the problem.

  • Creating PDF from Office files in Acrobat X for Mac

    Dear All - I just installed the Mac version of Acrobat X (with the newest dot release upgrade).  I was surprised to find (on my installation anyway) that the only way to create a PDF from an Office document is from within Mac Office, using the print command to create an Adobe PDF.
    There is no way to use Create PDF from the initial screen or the menu bar of Mac Acrobat X to convert an existing .doc, .docx, .xls, .ppt, etc. file  - the dropdown list of supported formats doesn't include any of the Office formats.  Nor does dragging an Office file's icon onto Acrobat's icon work.
    I know from the video tutorials on adobe.com that the Windows version of the Acrobat X product does support direct conversion of Office files without having to open them first in Office.  Is there something screwy with my particular installation, or is the exclusion of Office conversion in the Acrobat application (as opposed to through Office) a "feature" of the Mac version for some reason?
    Many thanks.
    Bob

    That's a good question, but I don't have a definitive answer. I know that Adobe has claimed to be working on providing PDFMaker capabilities (at least partially) for the Mac, but we haven't seen anything yet. PDFMaker was dropped as of version 9, but even before then, it was considerably less capable than the Windows version.
    I believe there are techincal limitations on the Mac that prevent them from integrating it with Microsoft Office products. I know that on WIndows, Office needs to be installed for PDFMaker to work, so Acrobat (PDFMaker) relies in part on MS Office functionality. If the same APIs aren't available on the Mac, there's not a lot they can do apart from implementing a conversion process that does not rely on MS Office, which sounds to me like a considerable undertaking.

  • Having problems creating PDF from website with query-string URLs

    I have a website that I would like to create a PDF from. I am using the Create -> PDF from Web Page..., selecting the site's home page, and capturing 2 levels, with "stay on same path" and "stay on same server" checked in order to limit the scope of the crawl.
    Where the pages are at example.com/foo/ and example.com/foo/bar/, this works fine. However, where the pages are at example.com/foo/ and example.com/foo/?p=1, the page represented by the query string URL is not converted to the PDF.
    This is a problem, given that the site I want to archive as a PDF uses query strings for most of its pages.
    I have been able to individually convert a single query-string-based page into a PDF using this method, but doing this for every page on the site would be almost impossible given the sheer number of pages on the site.
    Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround other than separately capturing each page (which would be prohibitive effort)?
    I have tried this in both Acrobat Pro X and Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac, with the same results.

    Remember, Acrobat is a 32-bit application and as such cannot access all that 'extra' stuff.

  • How to create PDF from text file with specific layout?

    I wanted to create the pdf from text file in specific layout - Landscape orientation and JIS B3 Page size while at Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    In past, I could do a right click on a text file (desktop area) and select print to print out the document into .pdf BUT only if I set the Adobe PDF to Landscape and JIS B3 Page size BEFORE.  And I could only do 15 text documents at once.
    I wanted to see if I could do the create the pdf from text file with specific layout in Adobe Acrobat without having to go to Control Panel to preset the Adobe PDF to specific layout at every time.   I would have to set Adobe PDF back to normal layout after I'm done with these pdf print outs.  I do lots of pdfs in normal layout.  Sometimes I would forget to do that.
    So, How do I do that?

    No such luck.  It would output the contents in letter size even in JIS B3 Page layout at MS word.
    Is there a script or action where I could set the orientation and page size before creating PDF on these text files?

  • Create PDF from two files in sub folder automation

    I am looking to create an automation tool that does the following to help save time (the current process takes about 20 min):
    First, take two specific files (The first page is a single worksheet excel file that is fitted to one page.  The second is a word document.)  in a user defined location and combine them into one document.  Currently this is done manually through Acrobat 8 via the Create PDF function for each file then the Combine PDF function.
    Second, I would like to have the Bookmark and Attachment pane set for initial view, but there is not a preset option for this.  Is this even possible?  Currently, I set the initial view to bookmarks and page, and include a not one the first page on how to open the attachment pane.
    Third, all external links to documents, via hyperlinks, are added as attachements and the links are changed to point to the attachment so that all information is contained within one document.
    Lastly, this newly created document is posted to an intranet location.
    Any help in part or whole would be great.
    NOTE:  All code must be included as an add-in to Acrobat as this is within a corporate environment and server side scripts are not allowed.

    I have created the following script as a start to trying to figure this out, but I am getting unexpected results.  When I run this script, I get the two files, Temp and Combined.  The Temp file is, as expected, a pdf version of the last file in the array, but the Combined file is where the problem is.  With the Combined file, I have one blank page, then my single worksheet from the workbook, and then only the first page of the word document which is 26 pages.  Any idea what I am doing wrong?
    In addition, is there a way to prompt the user to select the filepath through a Windows Explorer interface?
    Current code:
    var filepath = "/c/filepath/"
    // Create a new PDF document for Profile:
    doc = app.newDoc();
    doc.saveAs({ cPath: filepath + "Temp.pdf" });
    doc.closeDoc(true);
    doc = app.openDoc({cPath: filepath + "Temp.pdf" })
    // List of files of different extensions
    aFiles = new Array( "Doc1.xls", "Doc1.doc");
    for ( var i=0; i < aFiles.length; i++) {
    // Open and convert the document
    newDoc = app.openDoc({
    oDoc: doc,
    cPath: aFiles[i],
    bUseConv: true
    // Save the new PDF file to a temp folder
    newDoc.saveAs({ cPath: filepath + "Combined.pdf" });
    // Close it without notice
    newDoc.closeDoc(true);
    // Now insert that PDF file just saved to the end of the first document
    doc.insertPages ({
    nPage: doc.numPages-1,
    cPath: filepath + "Combined.pdf",
    nStart: 0
