Problem Exporting Keywords in Lightroom 5

I recently converted from Lightroom 4 to 5.  I just noticed that not all my keywords are exported to my jpeg file.  For example I have the following keywords in Lightroom; Horizontal, Landscape, National Forest, Scenic.  My exported jpeg has only the keyword Landscape.
In the Library Module, when I click on the dropdown Keyword Tags and select "Will Export", I only see the keyword Landscape.  I'm not sure what this "feature" is all about.  Can someone explain it to me.  I need to be able to export all keywords.
This problem seems to be consistent and I have a test file set up so I can repeat the problem.  Only certain keywords are not exported.

Thanks for your help.  I really appreciate it.  After checking some other keywords, I think this problem involves a minority of my keywords.  I tracked the problem down to October 12, 2013.  That was the day I installed Lightroom 5.  Something must have happened in the catalog conversion.
I'll try exporting the keywords to see if I can identify the problem keywords.
Thanks again!!!

I have recently been processing some time lapse videos when the 4.2 version was released and I updated my Lightroom.  With 4.1 it was taking approx. 20 - 25 min to export a 1 minute video, with 4.2 it started taking about 5-6 hours when it doesn't stall and crash part way through.  It seems to start quite quickly then about one third of the way through it slows to a standstill.  I haven't installed or made any changes to my computer.  The other two problem I've been having are lagging when using the spot removal tool, up to 30 seconds between spot removals and my Smug Mug plugin keeps disappearing for no known reason.  The video is my biggest problem at the moment.  Should I switch back to 4.1?  Here are my specs from my computer(taken while processing a video:

  • Problems Exporting Keywords from LR5.3

    Hi,
I do all my keywording in LR and have it set up in various hierachies or nests and have made these "organising" keywords non-exportable.  Prior to running an export, to convert to TIFFs  I have checked what words will export and I am having problems that not all the keywords will export, even though the tags are celalry marked for export and to include included keywords if it is "hidden from export" organising keywords.  For example in one image I have location nested as UK, England, Midlands, West Midlands, with all of them marked for export and "West Midlands does not export.
I have seen various posts about similar issues, but I have checked that all keyword tags are set to export ok which seemed to be the primary issue.
Any thoughts or input gratefull received.
    Thanks

Have you taken a look at the logs for workspace/biplus? If so, anything relevant?

  • Problem exporting pics from Lightroom 2.7 to PS 5.1

    I need some help!
When I installed PS 5.1 on my new computer, I began working on
pictures from a recent shoot.  I start with camera RAW in Lightroom then export to PS 5.1
. I have not had a problem before, but must have
gotten my settings wrong or something.  Exporting works great,
no problems.  But when I go into
PS 5.1 to tweak them, they look entirely different.  Example:  The vignette I added in LR looks 'streaked/not smooth' in PS. Also the skin doesn't look smooth.
What have I done wrong?  Why is it looking weird in PS?  Thank you for your help!  I've got to finish these pics and can't figure it out.

I don't use PS much, but I remember that if the percentage zoom isn't some nice value like 50% or 33.33%, etc., the image looks "rough". So that may be your problem. How does the photo look if you look at it 1:1?
What are the values set in your Preferences/External Editing for PS CS5?

  • Problems with Keywords in Lightroom 5.6

I've been experiencing a HUGE problem with Lightroom since updating to 5.6. Keywords are not being applied correctly to selected photos. Sometimes they apply to the last selected SET of photos even though I've purposely done a "Select None" and then selected a single photo. Sometimes they are being applied to an entire collection even though the entire collection has not been previously selected. I can usually get the keywords applied to the correct photo (or photos) if I shut down Lightroom and then restart it -- apply the keywords to one photo or group of photos, rinse, repeat. That is highly aggravating. Sometimes that doesn't even work and the keywords either don't apply at all or apply to all the photos in the grid view, whether that is a collection or a folder...

Have you tried deleting the preferences?  See Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5.  Note that on more recent versions of Mac OS, you should reboot after deleting the preferences, since the operating system can cache them.
Sprinkling this magic fairy dust often fixes weird LR behavior.

  • Problem with Keyword Hierarchy Export

    Hello All,
I've noticing an issue with keyword export in Lightroom 4.0 64 bit Mac OS. In 4.0, as compared to 3.6, when I select uncheck the "Include on Export" box of a parent keyword not only is that keyword removed from the exported keywords but all parents keywords above it in the heirarchy. For example if my keyword hierarchy is as follows:
    Animals
         Vertebrates
              Reptiles
                   Turtles
                        Black River Turtle
In Lightroom 3.6 if I was to unckeck the "Include on Export" box of Vertebrates the exported keywords would include:
Animals, Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
While if I was to do the same the keywords would be:
    Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
Has anyone else exprianced this problem or does anyone know how to return the export behaviour to that of 3.6.
    Thanks

According to this (See B. Warde's response in the thread) http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/keyword_options_no_longer_available_ in_lr4 this was a behavior that was incorrect in 3.6 that has now been fixed.

  • Keywords in Lightroom

Lightroom 4 appears to have the same problem as the previous version in regards to exporting keywords. I had a support case in Lightroom 3, in regards to the same problem. This was never fixed, as support didn't appear to understand the problem.
Assuming you have already thousands of photos in your library. Keywords were originally assigned in Bridge CS4 and 5. Now some of these are imported into Lightroom 4 and map data assigned - nothing else done to them. Now the metadata is saved to the files and it all appears to go well. However, going back into Bridge, the "Group" keywords have been added to the pictures. I'll explain:
Group "People" has "Sub group" Ted, John, Susi, Mother, Father and so on
Group "Places" has "Sub group" London, Wellington, Glasgow and so on
Group "Trips" has "Sub group" London 2010 Glasgow 2011 and so on
The main group is never selected, only the relevant subgroup. On import into Lightroom 4, the keywords are imported without any apparent change. However, when the metadata is saved back to the files, the "Group" keywords are also written to the files.
Instead of a picture having the keywords John, London, London 2010, they now have People, John, Places, London, Trips, London 2010.
If I export the photos instead of updating the metadata, the problem is the same. It doesn't matter what type of photo. The interesting thing is, if I just update a single photo, the keywords are left untouched

    Hi John,
of course it would be possible by about 32000 photos, but somehow I don't think so. The 2 directories imported into LR4 are fixed now, as the errors caused by LR fixed in Bridge as well. So I can't check these any more. Have made a check of all other folders and found no errors - at least none that I can see.
Have started to import another directory - and again errors. This time, checked the keywords that were imported incorrectly. Found some errors in Bridge, none that I could figure out, as the individual ones all appeared correct, but when selected with the next one, a minus sign appeared in the keyword check box. Found a few of these, for which I reapplied the keyword. The keywords in error were PSD files, originally created in CS3 and later edited in CS5
Again deleted the directory in LR4 and all keywords and re-imported the now fixed photos. Then went through the other ones, but couldn't find any errors in Bridge. So I removed the particular keyword and then reapplied the same. Again deleted the photos and keyword from LR and re-imported them. Again, this time they were all imported correctly.
With the next directory I will try to just scan for metadata changes, I thought of this after finishing the last one.
So, it would appear that Bridge is the cause of all this. So far, Bridge CS3, CS4 and CS5 were used, therefore I can't say that one particular version is the culprit

  • Exporting metadata from Lightroom to Excel

For all those out there wanting to export metadata from Lightroom to CSV, I have found a Fantastic Company www.pkzsoftware.com that sell their product for approx AUS $10.00 "Lightroom Metadata Explorer" it works perfectly and their customer service is just the best you will find anywhere, being a computer novice I had a few problems and they went out of their way to assist me to get exactly the data I needed. Can't speak highly enough of the Company.

    John,
Thanks for your reply and the references to the tools. I ran the sqlLite Database Browser to look at the LR database, and to be honest it was pretty much gibberish to me. There's over 50 tables in the database and some quick browsing through them revealed data that would seem to require a knowledge of the database structure to extract. I'm a photographer with very good knowledge of how to use software tools to do my job, but I'm not a programmer and really don't have the time or the desire to become one.
My point is any good database software should have the capability to generate at least a flat file of the information contained within. In LR's case, I (and it seems others based on feature requests) would like to see a capability of exporting a CSV or tab-delimited file of the information contained in the side panels (i.e., keywords, the metadata browser, and the metadata panel for starters) on an image-by-image basis. I could then use the output in any of several other tools to do what I need.
Thanks again for your helpful links. Maybe someone can come up with a "CSV generator" using one of those tools that could be shared among LR users.

  • Exporting Jpegs from Lightroom - DPI question

When I export Jpegs from Lightroom, I set the dpi to 300 pixels per inch. I do not specify a max width or height. When I view these files in Adobe Bridge (CS2 or CS3) the file info says 300dpi. However, when I open the files in Photoshop and select image size, It says 72dpi and has the document size set to very large. I realize that I can enter 300 dpi and uncheck the resample box, I am just confused as to why this is happening.
My concern is, that I upload my images directly to my lab after exporting from Lightroom. Will this cause problems?
    Thanks in advance!
    David

the image resolution is a combination of the two parameters you mention: size and dpi. a very large size at 72 dpi is equivalent to a small size (like 3x5) at very high dpi. for printing you want at least 240 dpi at the largest size that allows you to keep that resolution. for screen presentations or your web site you want jut 72 dpi. 72 dpi and 2x3 inches will require a very small file size.
I suggest you to export images at TIFF and not JPEG as that will allow you to preserve the image quality when doing editing in PS.
In my case I export TIFF for PS (when I need PS editing) and 72 dpi JPEG for my web site (that way if somebody downloads my image illegally thy get a poor resolution copy). But since LR works very well for me 90% of the images re just kept in raw mode and I print from LR.

  • When exporting out of lightroom the color of my picture channges significantly

I use windows 8 and tried exporting out of lightroom through firefox and this did not help either

Hi Shmuglak.  Thank you for the information.  I tried those things but did not work.    I just got windows 8 and just downloaded photoshop CC and Lightroom from the cloud.   My settings in Lightroom under preferences are :   Under jpeg preview it is checked on fast load data.   Under external editing the color space is prophoto.   Under additional external editor it is set to preset (Custom).  Under Default Develop Settings the only thing checked is apply auto mix when first converting to BW.   Under export module:   Location:   set to same as original folder and no check mark on add to catalog.   Under Post Processing I have tried do nothing and tried firefox.
It is funny that when I export a picture from lightroom using firefox that picture  pops for preview and the picture looks fine but then when I go to my email and try to email that same picture and use send with a file attachment the picture looks aweful on my desktop but when looking at it on the ipad or iphone the picture looks fine.
Any other suggestions would be great
    thank you

I don't know if this is your case but I have a similar problem (and has been helped out by some kind soul on this forum). The change of color may happen if you are re-importing the exported pictures into the Lightroom catalog. If this is what you are doing, some import presets may be applied and this may cause the color change. I'm talking about this setting, sheck if it is enabled. If it is, disable it and see if it helps.

  • Problem dragging keyword tags in LR 3

Hi, I am helping a user who has many keywords in Lightroom (hundreds). He usually tags images with keywords by dragging a keyword tag from the Keyword Tags panel onto an image in the grid. But the last 32 tags are not working. When he clicks on one of the problem keywords in the Keyword Tags panel, it is not selected. Instead, a vertical line appears at the mouse pointer and he can't select or drag that keyword. (see image) The many keywords above the problem ones work as expected. The problem keywords used to work, they just started not working in the last couple days. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks for the info! I wonder what the maximum for keywords is? I am not sure that's the problem here since they did work until this week, but I will suggest the hierarchical option to the user.
Is it possible that they keyword list got corrupted somehow? Is there a way to repair it?
    thanks again

  • Deleting ALL keywords from Lightroom database?

Hi, gang. I've been playing around with Lightroom and Bridge and I've realized that I got very deep into adding keywords in Lightroom but that I would much rather add them in Bridge, then import them into Lightroom. The problem is that I now have amassed a huge number of keywords that migrate into Bridge and that are time-consuming to change. I'd rather just delete every keyword in Lightroom at once, then re-create them in Bridge, and THEN import them into Lightroom.
So, does anyone know if Lightroom has one specific file that it stores in a folder somewhere that I can just delete? If I have to go through and delete each keyword one at a time, I'll just uninstall Lightroom and reinstall it (unless there's also a way to dump my whole database and start again).
    Thanks for the help!

    >Does this not need confirmation on each keyword as you delete it?
He's been polishing his crystal ball again ;-)
The dialog will probably tell you that keyword X will be deleted from Y photos and give you the option to Cancel or Delete All. Chose Delete All and ALL selected keywords will be deleted. The dialog is either presenting the wrong info about what will be deleted or is deleting everything when it shouldn't. Strangely, had there been 100 selected keywords then you would need to hit Cancel 100 times.

  • Problems importing keywords with image

I have exported keywords from another program (IMatch) to both embedded iptc and xmp files. The problem is that I can't get LR to assign the keywords to the pictures when importing, or when trying the "import meta from xmp file" option. I have tried with both jpeg- and cr2-files (cr2 is raw from EOS 20D). The strange thing is that all keywords assigned to the pictures shows up to the left in the keywords panel, so LR somehow reads the keywords from the files and knows about the existence of these keywords, but, as I said, does not assign the keywords to the keywords field of the respective images. The keywords show up perfectly fine in Adobe Bridge.

Can't say, as I don't have Aperture installed- actually did, but trial ran out- to test definitively.
    <br />
<br />Either someone with same experience will come along and say, or you could try a small controlled experiment to see if perhaps you didn't select All photos on importing the xmp file, etc.

  • Exporting photos from Lightroom that are good enough quality for a photography website.

I am doing a website for a photographer client that need to showcase their images in a rotating gallery that will be about 1/2 the page so pretty big. She gave me all the photos in FULL size which meant that they were excellent quality and looked amazing on my computer at home as I have fast internet and they all loaded up in seconds. Only problem, when I tried it on a different internet source that wasn’t as speedy, they took so long to load that the next one would start, hence no images ever being visible. This is not good as not everyone will have as fast internet as me and it’s pointless if no one can see her work.
She then exported them for web, using the normal settings that she usually would, leaving them around 200-600KB which loads up nice and quickly, but the quality just don’t do the photo’s justice AT ALL!
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of the setting to use to export them from lightroom so that the quality is still next to perfect, but they are small enough so that they load up in a reasonable time on the web.
Each photo displays for 5 full seconds before alternating.
Thank you in advance and if you have any further suggestions, I would love to hear them.

You need to use export settings similar to this:
Quality setting should be at least 60, but you can sometimes get away with less. (smaller file size)
But if you need to export a lot of images, do them all at 60, and re-export as necessary. If you for instance see blockiness in a clear blue sky, increase quality until it goes away.
Color space must be set to sRGB.
Set the required size in pixels, using Long edge is quite convenient. Whatever you enter in the resolution box doesn't matter - web browser ignore ppi.
Experiment with Screen sharpening to find the setting that works best. Standard usually works OK, but it depends on the sharpness of the original.
Set Metadata to Copyright Only, this keeps file size down.
