Problem import iMovie 10.0.1
I can not understand how the import from the camera to a new aymuvi. The note says that the import occurs in fonovomm mode. But oddly enough he does not. Aymuv himself knows this and offers forced to import video from a camera from the menu File?
But there is no such item. How forced to import from my camera? rescue
UPD: the button Import media .... pressed zero results displayed in the clip only this icon:

Problems Importing iMovie 05 - HI 8 Project
Sometimes within iMovie 04 I would often capture and convert movie footage from a HI 8 camcorder using my Sony DV camcorder as a bridge.
This always worked fine, and the analogue video passed through my Digital DV camcorder and I was able to manually capture the video footage.
However, I have just tried this within iMovie 05, and I can not find a way of doing this??
When you start iMovie 05, you have various options for capture, when creating a new Project. I chose DV as an option(capturing from a DV camcorder) and the tried to start a manual capture. Very often in the past using iMovie 04 I was unable to capture video if a DV film was detected in the Sony Camcorder, so I have made sure that there is no tape.
But I am unable to capture anything or see any video playing, within iMovie 05.
Can anyone tell me if thits type of capture is still possible within iMovie 05?

GCan anyone tell me if OS X version 10.4 or the iMovie version that goes along with this removed the "Automatic DV Pliiarboxing and Letterboxing" setting under iMovie -> Preferences -> Import?
I have a Miglia Director's Cut analog to Firewire converter connected to a DVD player that I'm playing a video thru to my G5. It streams in fine but as soon as I touch the clip to add it to the time line or change the name of the clip, this letterboxing thing automatically happens and my clip is squished in the vertical direction adding horizontal black stripes along the top and bottom.
Miglia said to turn off this feature in the preferences -> import menu, but I don't remember seeing this switch. Did it get removed?
Any other advise?

My Mac was upgraded to Snow Leopard. iMovie now have problems importing from SONY camcorder.
This is the first time I hooked up my camcorder since the upgrade. iMovies shows my videocan with an excalamation mark inside a yellow diamond and bogs down completely. What is wrong? I have iLife 2011. Is there a setting that I missed?

I don't have the Sony, but for older tape camcorder's I use a standard DVD recorder and burn the movie to DVD then use [HandBrake|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21117] to convert to MPEG-4 for importing to iMovie.

Problem importing video footage on to iMovie
I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

Import imovie into Garage for Soundtrack -severe audio problems
Imported imovie 4 minutes long into Soundtrack and the audio is delayed, scratchy, offensive and unlistenable. I add a drum track and that suffers the same fate. I got the movie to play fine by going into prefernces as that was moving in "chunks" instead of a smooth flow. Any thoughts?
I hardly ever use iMovie so I am not sure about the "Share" function there but using Avid Express, or Lionheads "The Movies" I end up with a Hd movie.
This I suppose is too large to use in GB so I compress it at a lower resolution and a smaller size. This is the movie I use in GB. The resulting soundtrack is exported to iTunes, no help for that, and then with Quicktime Pro, I remove the sound from the original HD movie and add the new mix.

Problem importing from JVC MG 155 (videcam with hard disk drive)
I had a problem importing video from my videocam Jvc MG 155.
I tried when there was only few record in the videocam and everything gone right.
Otried when there were 520 movies and over 4 hour of video (I went to holiday and made also underwater movies) and the program crach before importing the movies.
I can import the moviesw only via firewire but in this way i import in DV mode (so I have near 60 gigabytes occupied by that movies insted of the original size in the hdd of the camera of 18 giga).
Someone have a solution?
If I import by firewire I reach the same quality (the camera record directly in mpeg 2 and via firewire I import in dv way)?

Jvc don't support mac because they don't give you software compatible (the cd inside is win only).You are right.
But the first time I imported with imovie 08 (the time when there was only few movies on the camera and everything gone right and the program don't crash) i notice that the program imported the movies in compress format (mpeg2) and the size was the same of the videocamera (more or less ..but I'm sure it's not in DV format).
Maybe the prgram crash because of the hight number of the miniature it must generate to let me choose witch I want import.
Certantly Apple mus resolve this bug because the model of this videocamera is one of the fews they assure like compatible directly with imovie 08. -

Just bought my first mac. Got couple problems with imovie. First - i have camcoder with dvd. imovie can't import. If i have not made disk finalization - imovie shows blank disk (unreadable). When i make finalization imovie shows attached dvd, but refuses to import vob files.
Second problem - i converted this dvd with ffmpegX to avi. Again imovie refuses to perform file import. File-import movies shows my avi files unclickable.The only video you can use on iOS version of iMovie, is video you take on the iPad using the iPad camera or any taken on any other device with the iOS software 4.3 or higher. Problems importing from sony HDR FX7
hi forum.
i'm having problems importing audio from my camera into i-movie.
during import there is no sound coming from my computer, but there is sound coming from my camera. after import when i play back the clip i just imported, the sound is morphed. its like the pitch has been turned down in the audio file, except no effect has been done on it.
if anyone out there has a similar problem, or a soulution please let me know as i am ready to throw my mac out the window!

will the cound correct itself while it in in imovie. in other words will i be able to edit and listen to the audio as it is supposed to be?
what concerns me it that after i noticed this probem, i tried exporting it as a quicktime file, thinking that the wound would be OK, but after it finished exporting, the quicktime file was exactly the same. the sound was morpehd on it also.
could it be the settings on my camera?

Problems importing AVCHD clips from Panasonic GF1
I'm having problems importing clips from my new Panasonic Gf1. FCE (4.0.1) sees the device ok, and selecting and previewing the clips in the log and transfer window works fine, but once the clips are in FCE (converted to AIC) they play fast in the viewer or when placed in the sequence. Strange, because they play fine in the preview window before importing. Tried this in iMovie 08 and get the same effect.
I'm can convert them Toast to AIC and they work fine when imported to FCE but this is not my preferred workflow.I tried using Toast Titanium 10 for conversion as suggested but there was a slight issue with synch of video and audio. So I downloaded and bought Voltaic HD as suggested elsewhere and the AVCHD files of the Panasonic GF-1 are now playing in Final Cut Express 4 without issues - I am editing with no problem. Given that I can use the Log&Transfer Window (Final Cut 4) for my Olympus EP1 and my Panasonic HD video cam, it's odd that the files of the Panasonic GF-1 don't work in Final Cut (yet), but at least I am back editing. Voltaic HD was $35, a doable expense.... it does work flawless (so far).

Having problems importing my .mov file.
I am having problems importing several .mov files into iMovie. I also can't import .wmv files and I have been utterly confused. I know I have to convert the files but I don't want to pay for a program because I will only be converting 4 files. Please help!
What is Mpeg Streamclip
It is a free conversion application that accesses the QT structure and all installed QT components without having to pay the $30 for QT Pro or purchasing GarageBand. It's "engine" is MPEG-based, so it can do some things that QT Pro cannot do ( e.g., retaining audio content when converting multiplexed compression formats). On the other hand, it cannot perform layer operations like QT Pro can so these applications are somewhat complementary.

Problems importing from canon mvx460
I'm having problems importing movies in iMovie 9.0.2 from my Canon mvx460 camera.
It seems that my iMac (Mac OS 10.6.7, 2.66 GHZ INtel Core Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3) doesn't recognize the camera (through firewire 800).
Is this a known issue for this camera with iMovie? Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Many thanks!I don't have this camera, but in general for miniDV camera, the camera must be plugged in to wall power, not batteries.
Also, if you are using a firewire 400 to 800 converter, that has been known to cause problems. It is best to use a 9 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. -
I'm having problems importing HD footage from my Canon XHA1 into imovie.
I select 1080i HD and but the program defaults into DV.

I have been a Windows / Video Studio user for many years. (Win 7, Q6600 cpu, 8gb RAM)
I principally make DVD's of slideshows, interspersed with video and with a music background for myself, businesses and friends.
I'm not a "Pro" by any stretch of the imagination but I've been successfully making reasonable quality output.
Now
I've moved to the Mac and as my profile shows I've bought a reasonable machine - iMac 27", 16gb RAM, i7 3.4gHz cpu, AMD Radeon HD 6970M (2GB) and 1TB main drive and 3TB external drives.
I have iMovie '11 and (after reading extensive reviews) just purchased FCP X to see if I can -
Utilize the 64bit the iMac is capable of; and
give myself more flexibility for creativity (VS X3 had heaps of themes, transitions, titling etc)
Questions
I expected FCP X to import the iMovie Events and Projects hassle free (most bad reviews referred to comparisons with FCP 7 etc.) However when I import the projects -
The iMovie MAPS feature is not supported (this is a real hassle as this was a recent welcome introduction from iMovie '09 on). Apple support suggested I export the whole project to a QT movie then import into FCP X but as I told them I bought FCP X to speed up the process, not to process a 32bit app then import to a 64bit app to do my final output. (Since then my research suggests there is a workaround to the MAPS problem if I just create the Maps in iMove and export to QT and import to FCP X - Why would Apple not just continue this feature in FCP X?
All of my photos appear full screen in iMovie, however when I import to FCP X some of the photos are significantly smaller i.e. appear in a black frame. Is this a media problem or is FCP X not capable of importing the project in it's iMovie form?
All text frames (as intros to particular groups of photos) lose their formatting and the text is cropped and unreadable.
All this from a product that is purported to "import iMovie Events and Projects". The imported mess I have suggests I'm better off starting from scratch but this means the "import iMovie events" is useless?
Lastly, the plethora of options for output leaves me baffled to say the least. It is not helped because i am not a Pro but even iMovie is difficult to easily produce a high quality DVD for playback on a big screen TV. I try various options, SHARE>Media Browser>LARGE, or 1080p (produces 108 error in iMovie) Then import into iDVD to produce DVD menu and output to Image file prior to burning on SL or DL media.What is the best workflow to produce the best DVD output on a HD TV?

Do I understand correctly that to produce 90 minutes of high quality I need a Blu-ray burner? I follow that DL discs can only produce HD up to 40 minutes and to go beyond that I need a Blu-ray burner and disc.
On advice from Apple Support, I provided feedback for a feature request when I first struck the problem. I'll research the forums more to seek out answers to my questions. I'll have to find the "spatial conform" section. In the meantime I'll finish these projects as best I can in iMovie and then start my learning curve with FCP X as I am probably biting off more than I can chew at the moment.

Final Cut Pro X crashes when I try to import iMovie project?
I have a large iMovie project that I am trying to import into FCP. Every time I do (FILE -> IMPORT -> IMOVIE PROJECT) it starts to import, then crashes without warning, giving me a crash log report.
I am able to import another smaller iMovie project just fine, but the one I actually need to import doesn't work.
Both projects use video clips from the same event library.
Any ideas? Or in a backwards way, any ideas on how to recreate it in a fresh iMovie project to import into FCP? (I've tried duplicating it in iMovie and it crashed on import too).

Let me give you a bit of back story...
I had an iMovie project that I had built on my Macbook. I just got a new iMac and installed FCPX on it. Was hoping to do some more professional alterations to the project.
So I consolidated the project in iMovie, copied it along with the files to an external hard drive, then transferred it over to my new machine.
Every time that I would try to import the newly copied project, it would get a few seconds in, then crash with no error message... just a crash report.
I was able to import a smaller project that used some of the same videos, so I knew that it wasn't a codec issue or something like that.
Then, through the process of trial and error, I figured out that when I had consolidated the project on my old machine, it didn't truly consolidate the files that I had used. There were a handful of still images that I had used in a different folder on my computer. So I copied that folder to the same path on my new computer, tried to import, and just like that, problem solved.
I guess FCPX doesn't know what to do when something isn't exactly where it's supposed to be. Hopefully in the next software update, they'll alert the user what the error causing it to crash is so that others don't have to waste nearly a day troubleshooting for one obvious (oops) mistake.
