Hey tejeshesa,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The Boot Camp Setup Guide may help to resolve your issue. Specifically, you may want to refer to Page 20:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup.pdf
Removing Windows from Your Computer
How you remove Windows from your computer depends on whether you installed Windows on a single-volume disk or on a second disk partition.
If you installed Windows on a second disk partition: Using Boot Camp Assistant as described below, remove Windows by deleting the Windows partition and restoring the disk to a single-partition Mac OS X volume.
If your computer has multiple disks and you installed Windows on a disk that has only one partition: Start up in Mac OS X and use Disk Utility, in /Applications/Utilities, to erase the disk and reformat it as a Mac OS X volume.
To delete Windows and the Windows partition:
1. Start up in Mac OS X.
2. Quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
3. Open Boot Camp Assistant.
4. Select “Create or remove a Windows partition” and click Continue.
5. Do one of the following:
- If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore.
- If your computer has multiple internal disks, select the disk with Windows on it, and then select “Restore to a single Mac OS partition” and click Continue.
Thanks,
Matt M.

  • How to get rid of the partition? all options grayed out.

How do I get rid of the Windows partition? I went to the disk utility and selected my hard drive but all the partition options are grayed out. Similarly, when I select the NTFS partition, I cannot erase it.
I want to merge the partitions, create one single partition. I do not care if all the information is lost, only that my hard drive is unified and clean again. How do I do this?

    Hi,
Hi Ryan and welcome to Discussions,
have you looked inside your Applications/Utilities Folder for an app named 'BootCamp Assistant' ?
    If there, consider yourself lucky
Don't run it yet, since it won't work with your current date and time.
Follow the instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1309?viewlocale=en_US to completely remove the BootCamp Windows partition and reassign the used diskspace back to OSX.
If you don't find the BootCamp Assistant in the Utilities folder, you have to boot from your OSX Tiger DVD to repartition your harddisk to one OSX volume and then reinstall Tiger and/or restore your OSX from a backup.

  • Problem with merging partitions

    Hi all,
I am having a bit of trouble partitioning the HD on the MBP. I hope you guys can help me. I would like to reformat the drive and have made a partition entitled "Backup" (see image link above) to store the files I need.
Now, I would like to merge "Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD 2" together but it won't do it. I have tried in recovery mode and I have tried deleting Mac HD 2 and pulling down Mac HD. Both methods did not work. Appreciate any help. Thank you and sorry if this problem has been posted in the forum.

Something is messed up in the partition map which means you will have to repartition the entire drive from scratch.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from a bootable external drive. Open Disk Utility.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map.

I had too much time on my hands yesterday and I decided to try to remove an unused kernel extension that I saw in my EtreCheck report. The kext was for the PACE iLok, for Pro Tools, which I no longer use. I found the item that was installing the kext and removed it, and EtreCheck reported that the kext was gone.
Some time after that I was troubleshooting another issue I have with Mavericks (shutdown time: my shutdown time with ML was almost instantaneous; with Mavericks, it takes about 12 seconds.), and I used the recovery partition and Disk Utility to repair my HD and permissions.
DU reported that my usual boot volume was OK, and permissions repaired on it without problems.
When I have DU look at the drive itself, it reported: Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map.
And then, in ominous red text: error: live file system repair is not supported.
I tried repairing again, and also got this message: The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition 's file system.
I tried a few things to get these error messages to go away. I booted with a DiskWarrior disk and it was unable to do the repair.
I did a little reading about the EFI partition, and in Macs it appears to be a partition related to firmware updates.
My mac has not had any symptoms at all during this, aside from the slower shutdown.
Even so, I did not like the idea of a partition that could not be repaired on my HD, so I did a clean install. Seemed to work, DU reported a healthy drive and volume.
This morning, as I was preparing for a TM backup, I ran DU again, and the error messages were back. Not good.
This time I tried TechTool, and it was able to repair the HD from the TechTool eDrive (TechTool's version of the recovery partition).
I've looked in these discussions and there are some mentions of these error messages, but usually in the context of failing hard drives or drives that must be erased and the OS reinstalled.
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me, what these error messages mean, why they are occurring, and if I can just ignore them. My internal HD is not a stock Apple drive, but a Samsung SSD that I installed some time ago, and which otherwise works fine. My current suspicions are that either:
there is something inherent in Mavericks that creates some problem with the EFI partition map over time, which then shows up in the error messages in DU
or there is some incompatibility with this SSD and Mavericks that creates the same error messages.

  • How do I remove disk partition and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. Win7

How do I remove a disk  partition  and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. If I delete Drive  D I am left with 250G of unallocated space in drive D Hard drive. And I want the unallocated portion 250G to be allocated
    to the C drive.jc

I know it is a little bit late to reply. But, I still want to share my experiences with everyone here.
Actually, I have ever also has the same issue and needed to resize my C drive partition for much more partition space. But, the resizing process just unexpectedly fails at last in Disk Management. The “extend” function is unable to work.
So, I have no choice but to take chances with some third party partition resizing tools:
    GParted
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free
    http://www.resize-c.com/
Both of them seem efficient. So, I just have tried them one by one and finally added wanted free space to my C drive successfully.
I even have found a video tutorial that teaches me how to resize my drive with this freeware in details:

  • Problems formatting the partition in Windows XP

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro (SP2, OEM version) through bootcamp. I partition the hard drive (115gb) using the assistant and then start the installation. I get the screen that asks me to select the correct partition and I choose "C: Partition 3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32]". However, according to the bootcamp installation guide, I should then see a screen that allows me to format the partition for Windows XP where I can select "NTFS (Quick)". The problem is, I'm not getting this screen. After I choose "C: Partition 3..." it jumps straight into the install and I never have the opportunity to format the partition. Any ideas on whats going wrong?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
with newer Windows CDs/DVDs there seems to be sometimes a problem with the needed re-formatting during installation.

I don't have any problems merging the pdf documents by dragging them in preview, but when I try to save and open afterwards, only the last shown doc was saved, not the combined files I wanted to merge. I've tried save and export, but none merge the documents after saving... how can I create the file (with all the pdf files) after merging?

  • What does problems were found with the partition map mean

Why is there a problem when I run my disk utility that says "problems were found with the partition map that which might prevent booting"?  Why is there a problem????????

You have to repair your partition map. It's the most important part of the hard drive related to software, because if the partition map doesn't work, the whole hard drive is useless.
As you have OS X Lion, you should be able to repair it while OS X is started. Open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities), choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, and press the button to repair the disk. What do you see in the blank box?
Also, after choosing the hard drive in Disk Utility, tell me the SMART status, at the bottom of the window. You may also want to check the Macintosh HD status

  • Merging/Combining Partition D into the main Partition C using Windows 7.

Can I combine both partition C and Partition D and create a larger Partition C using Windows 7?
I deleted the original Lenovo Recovery Partition Q, reformatted (NTFS) the unallocated empty Partition into a
new Partition D with 13 GB of free space.  My goal is to merge Partition D (13GB) into my
main partition C (83GB) and have a larger Partition C (99GB) thus eliminating Partition D using
Windows 7 (ie. Disk Management etc.).
I really don't want to download and use any 3rd party software (ie. Partition Magid etc.) unless absolutely
necessary.  I have previously posed this question on the T530 forums and the only recourse given was to
use a 3rd party Partition Software.  I am posting here as my last resort before relenting and using 3rd Party Software.
BTW I have ordered from Lenovo a complete set of recovery disks for my ultimate backup and system restoration.
    Thanks,

  • How to merge two partitions on lion

    Hello everyone.
I have a big problem... I want to merge two partitions... (I know, disk utility...).
In fact, I can't merge a partion which looks locked, with my lion partition via disk utility.
On this locked partition I had my old snow leopard OS still installed before deleting it, I wanted at th begining just try lion, and do a fresh install. (which is donenow)
Some more informations for you :
I have windows 7 via bootcamp installed.
Also, I have a save of my booting partition on time machine.
    Thanks for your help
    Darklink
ps : I'm french, so, sorry for mistackes

Even if software is going to make it happen, you are still faced with the possibility of power failure in the process, which would wipe the entire drive in one swoop if it happens at the wrong time.    Better to clone both partitions to a larger hard drive, and then erase, repartition, and copy back over the boot data first, and import the rest by hand.

  • Cannot resize the partition C

    Hi,
I have a problem with resizing my partition C on Windows 8.1. It only has 28 GB and I have run out of every space. The Disc manager for resizing partitions is not working (every option for a Disc C is greyed out). I downloaded three partition managers: Paragon,
Aomei and one more (don't remember the name, cause I deleted it already). All of them were supported by Windows 8.1 32 bit. And still it was not possible to do anything with the disk C, even though I have a lot of unallocated space to use.
I also deleted disk D, so that only Disk C was left, and still I couldn't allocate any space to it, only to shrink it.
Can anyone tell me what else can I do?
It is driving me crazy already. Help please.
    Marta

    Hello,
I used aomei partition assistant before in my windows 8.1, it worked well. do you use "resize partition" in aomei partition assistant to extend you c drive? if you do like this, the unallocated space on your hard disk should be contiguous behind
the partition c, or you can't extend partition. but if the unallocated space is not contigous behind partition c, you an use extend partition wizard or merge partitions to extend partitionc
    extend partition wizard: http://www.disk-partition.com/windows-8/change-partition-size-windows-8.html
    merge partitions: http://www.disk-partition.com/help/merge-partition.html
     hope can help you

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.
