Problem in retrieving LONG(of Oracle) column in Java String Object

Hi,
I wrote some codes to fetch some columns into a String array(two dimentional), one of the column is long (in Oracle database)...whenever I try to get the value into the array..its showing
java.sql.SQLException: Stream has already been closed
Some where I read that I've to fetch the long column first..now this was my general function...the resultset can have more than one rows..in that case, how can I retrieve the long data first. Now next time(for the second row) in the loop..it'll get LONG(as it'll be first to retrive) after some normal column(from the first column)...again it can show the same problem.
Is there any concrete solution for that? Please help me to sort this out.
Thanks in advance.

    I cant seem to change the size of the this column in the EXCEL SOURCE .It just changes it back to
    Unicode string [DT_WSTR] and 255 characters . This field contains strings greater than 255 characters .

    I found a great solution to limitation of excel when reading cells with a lot of text and when firts rows has no data!

  • Problem with retrieving data from Oracle 10g / PHP4.3 / Apache 1.3.27

    Hi,
    I re-open a new thread following the opened post 'Getting RPMs for php-oracle for PHP4.3 on RHEL 4.0 and issue with OCI8 '
    I could re-installed PHP4.3 and apache 1.3.27 from the normal tar package (./configure then make) - I had some issues with the RPMs packages before.
    I could connect successfully PHP4.3 to my Oracle 10g DB with no issues by using some of the (deprecated) functions contained in oracle.so library in command line mode by executing a simple PHP script ;-)
    But ...when I try to execute the same script (a simple log on to the DB) or the application throught my web browser there are some errors in the apache error_log file that crash the process:
    [Wed Jul 25 13:19:23 2007] [notice] child pid 25450 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

    [Fri Jul 27 04:39:56 2007] [notice] child pid 20550 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
    After some investigations it looks like this is due to the connection of Oracle 10G and php.
    I tried to recompile Apache as the following:
    # cd /usr/src/apache_1.3.xx
    # make clean
    # LIBS=-lpthread ./config.status
    # make
    # make install
    but the issue is the same ...
    How can I workaround that issue and fix it in order to connect to Oracle 10 G by using PHP4.3 / apache 1.3.27 ?
    I need to use the oracle.so library to avoid to re-rewrite all my application ...
    Any help much very appreciated !
    Cheers
    Dominique

    You are in unchartered territory. But check the common "gotcha" and
    make sure that all the Oracle environment variables are set in the
    shell that starts Apache. Load the script <?php phpinfo(); ?> in a
    browser and see that whatever variables you need are set in the
    Environment section. See the section "Oracle Environment Variables
    for Connections" in Underground PHP and Oracle Manual
    I suspect it would be beneficial to migrate the PHP code to oci8.
    Check table 16-1 in Underground PHP and Oracle Manual for the mapping
    between 'oracle' and 'oci8' functions.

  • Failed to retrieve long data for column

    Hi,
    I am using SSDT 2010 to load Excel 2010 spreadsheets to a 2012 SQL DB. In my package I have a foreach loop and loading a couple of thousand spreadsheets. Issue I'm facing, is that about 30 or so of these spreadsheets are failing with message above.
    My connection string is set as follows: Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=<filepath>.xlsx;Extended Properties="EXCEL 12.0 XML;HDR=YES;IMEX=1";
    I tried changing TypeGuessRows registry setting to 1 and to 0, but with no success.
    BLOBTempStoragePath and BufferTempStoragPath have more than enough space.
    The Excel spreadsheets (contain about 1000 rows) are being created through an XML process. What we've also tried,  is force the first 11 rows through the XML process to contain at least 256 characters to ensure it converts to DT_NTEXT.
    Does anyone have any idea what might cause this?

    Me too faced this issue of accommodating more than 256 characters in a cell in an excel.
    Steps:
    1. Do the following in the first row of the excel. First insert some 5000 white spaces in cells where you expect more data to receive.
    2. Then hide that first row and save the excel.
    3. Now try loading the data into the excel. You should be able to load the data.
    Let us know, if that works.

  • Embedded Single Quote in SQL Column truncates Java String

    I have a jsp web page that queries a database to see what day a user is registered for and then produces an URL for the user to click on. My problem is that the URL being processed stops when an embedded single quote is encountered.
    Here is the database side:
    Database side:
    Create Table registration
    (reg_id int not null,
    name varchar2(45) not null,
    day_nb int not null);
    Insert into registration
    (reg_id, name, day_nb)
    values (1043,'Johnny''s Diner', 1);
    Select name, day_nb from registration
    where reg_id = 1043;
    name, day_nb
    Johnny's Diner 1
    Snippet of relevant java code: (JSP page)
    <%
    int day_nb = rs.getInt("day_nb");
    String particpant_name = rs.getString("name");
    System.out.println("registration.jsp: particpant_name = " + particpant_name);
    %>
    <td width="84%">
         <a
         href='<%=response.encodeURL("registrationHandler.jsp?"particpant_name="+ particpant_name + "&day_nb="+ day_nb)%>'><%=particpant_name%>
                                  </a>
                             </td>
    {code}
    The following is printed to System.Out:
    registration.jsp: particpant_name = Johnny's Diner
    The code produces the following URL
    http://www.mycompany.com/registrationHandler.jsp?particpant_name=Johnny
    The response.encodeURL is stopping on the single quote contained in "Johnny's Diner"
    The URL I want is:
    http://www.mycompany.com/registrationHandler.jsp?particpant_name=Johnny's Diner&day_nb=1
    How do I account for the embedded single quote so the code works properly? You really need to read up on [SQL Injection|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_injection] and [XSS/Cross-Site Scripting|http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-Site_Scripting]. Both present massive security problems and your code seems prone to easily producing both.
    For SQL Injection attacks the correct solution is to always use PreparedStatements with only hard-coded String (i.e. never use String concatenation to build SQL statements).
    For XSS attacks the solution is a bit harder, but basically you need to learn never to trust user input (that includes user input that you've previously stored in the database!) and always escape what the user sent when you print it back out.

  • JDOQL queryfilter failure while retrieving field of "java.lang.Object" Type.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION --->
    JDOQL FILTER ON A FIELD OF "java.lang.Object" TYPE, NOT WORKING.
    HELP REQUESTED WITH SUGGESTIONS OR POINTERS TO THE CORRECT SOLUTION.
    Deatiled Problem :=
    Environment :=
    Kodo version 2.4.1 (on Windows 2000).
    J2SDK 1.3.1_06 (on Windows 2000).
    Database:= MySQL 3.23.55 (on Windows 2000).
    Java Class Hierarchy Example:=
    SuperPersistentObject
    |__ LevelOneDescendant
    |__ LevelTwoDescendant
    |__ LastDescendant
    Procedures Followed :=
    Java class named "LastDescendant" is enhanced and persisted in the
    database.
    The field "m_value" is of java type "java.lang.Object" and is
    represented as a "blob" in the database.
    Aadequate data is pumped in the field "m_value" (Data of Type
    String/Integer/Double/Boolean etc.). The class "LastDescendant" is
    retrieved using following JDO specific code :=
    SUCCESSFUL EXAMPLE :=
    Extent extent= PersistentManager.getExtent
    (com.name.project.LastDescendant.class, false);
    String m_queryFilter = "";
    Query query = PersistentManager.getQuery(extent, m_queryFilter);
    Collection m_resultset = (Collection)query.execute();
    The above code returns all the available "LastDescendant" objects
    persisted in the DB. Post Load, The value in the field "m_value" of
    all the retrieved "LastDescendant" objects, is testeded successfully
    and found to be matching to the expected values.
    FAILED EXAMPLE :=
    Extent extent= PersistentManager.getExtent
    (com.name.project.LastDescendant.class, false);
    //Retrieving only the objects whose "m_value" field contains Integer
    // values, between 10 and 9000. (110 objects with Integer value
    // between 10 and 9000 are pumped in the DB, for testing).
    String m_queryFilter = "(m_value >= 10 && m_value <= 9000)";
    Query query = PersistentManager.getQuery(extent, m_queryFilter);
    Collection m_resultset = (Collection)query.execute();
    NO "LastDescendant" OBJECTS RETRIEVED, the Collection "m_resultset" is
    Empty, (Actually Expecting 110 objects).
    Tried every other way, using "declareImports()"/ "declareParameters()"/
    "declareVariables()" etc. Tried TypeCasting the m_value field to Integer,
    but to no avail.

  • ### Problem in retrieving special characters with Oracle 9i JDBC drivers

    hi,
    We are having some problem with retrieving special characters like '' from the database.
    Our application is using JDK1.3.1 with Oracle 9i at the back end(Version: 9.0.1.0.0). We are using oracle 9i thin drivers (classes12.zip) for database interaction.
    To relieve the data from database we are using PreparedStatement in two ways
    1. Creating a preparedstatement from connection object without any parameters and then retrieve the
    data using it. This gives the results in correct format i.e. special characters like ''
    2. Create the preparedstatement by passing the following parameters.
    i) ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE
    ii) ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY
    In this case we are not able to retrieve the special character like '' correctly. Instead the ResultSet
    returns 'h'
    I think this is the problem with Oracle drivers. Does anyone have any information about the mentioned problem.
    rgds

    I don't know exactly (because I am using JDK 1.4 with ojdbc14.jar where these problems seem to be rare...) but you may consider this:
    1. Add nls_charset12.zip to your classpath to ensure that the encoders are present (may or may not help)
    2. Swith to JDK 1.4, and do this:
    Instead of String s = getString(column)
    use
    byte[] bytes = getBytes(column);
    ByteBuffer bb = ByteBuffer.wrap(bytes); // in package java.nio
    CharBuffer cb = Charset.forname("ISO-8859-x").decode(bb);
    String s = cb.toString();
    The latter method allows you to perform the encoding/decoding manually.
    3. Change the character encoding in the database to unicode upon database setup.
    4. Try playing with NLS parameters (alter session ...)

    In a SAPscript you do not need to use ABAP code to retrieve long text - Just use the INCLUDE command in SAPSCRIPT - see help for details

  • Retrieving record from oracle DB very slow..pls help

    Hi, i'm writing a VB code to retrieving records from Oracle DB Server version 8. I'm using VB Adodb to retrieve the records from various tables. Unfortunately one of the table are very slow to response, the table only contain around 204900 records. The SQL Statement to retrieve the records is a simple SQL Statement that contain WHERE clause only. Any issue that will make the retrieving time become slow? Is that a Indexing? Oracle Driver? Hardware Spec? Or any solution for me to improve the performance. Thanks!

    Well, there are a few things to consider...
    First, can you try executing your query via SQL*Plus? If there are database tuning problems, your query will be slow no matter where you run it.
    Second, are you retrieving significantly more rows in this query than in your other queries? It can take a significant amount of time to retrieve records to the client, even if it's quick to select them.

    What could be the problem?
    More info:
    We are trying to get the example in the white paper 275199.pdf (Building Internet Applications with Oracle Forms 6i and Oracle8i) working.
    Thx for helping.

    Hi Ralph,
    I don't know if you are aware of this, but Oracle has replaced
    the database embedded EJB container (a.k.a. "aurora") with an
    external EJB container named OC4J (Oracle Containers for J2EE).
    OC4J is available in both stand-alone version and as part of Oracle's
    application server product: 9iAS. Although the database embedded
    EJB container still exists in the latest database versions (as
    far as I know), Oracle has -- for a long time, now -- been discouraging
    its use in favour of OC4J.
    More information on OC4J is available from:
    http://technet.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/content.html
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Retrieval of xmltype data from oracle 10g to java

    Hi
    Right now we are facing an issue on xmltype retrieval from oracle 10g to java.
    I used xmltype column.getClobval() to get the xml content, but unable to do the parse to get the xml data.
    So i tried getStringval(), getting the xml content as string format and here in this case also, i didn't get document object.
    Here is the code snippet:
    String sql = "SELECT node_id,node_desc,parent_node_id,e.report_xml.getStringval() FROM TABLE_STRUCTURE e";
    st = con.createStatement();
    rs = st.executeQuery(sql);
    while (rs.next()) {
    Object value[] = { rs.getString(1), rs.getString(2), rs.getString(3), rs.getString(4) };
    list.add(value);
    DOMParser parser = new DOMParser();
    parser.parse(rs.getString(4));
    doc = (Document) parser.getDocument();
    System.out.println(": DOM = " + doc.getClass().getName());
    Please do guide in this scenario.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sirisha

  • Problems with retrieving data from tables with 240 and more records

    Hi,
    I've been connecting to Oracle 11g Server (not sure exact version) using Oracle 10.1.0 Client and O10 Oracle 10g driver. Everything was ok.
    I installed Oracle 11.2.0 Client and I started to have problems with retrieving data from tables.
    First I used the same connection string, driver and so on (O10 Oracle 10g) then I tried ORA Oracle but with no luck. The result is like this:
    I'm able to connect to database. I'm able to retrieve data but from small tables (e.g. with 110 records it works perfectly using both O10 and ORA drivers). When I try to retrieve data from tables with like 240 and more records retrieval simply hangs (nothing happens at all - no error, no timeout). Application seems to hang forever.
    I'm using Powerbuilder to connect to Database (either PB10.5 using O10 driver or PB12 using ORA driver). I used DBTrace, so I see that query hangs on the first FETCH.
    So for the retrievals that hang I have something like:
    (3260008): BIND SELECT OUTPUT BUFFER (DataWindow):(DBI_SELBIND) (0.186 MS / 18978.709 MS)
    (3260008): ,len=160,type=DECIMAL,pbt=4,dbt=0,ct=0,prec=0,scale=0
    (3260008): ,len=160,type=DECIMAL,pbt=4,dbt=0,ct=0,prec=0,scale=1
    (3260008): ,len=160,type=DECIMAL,pbt=4,dbt=0,ct=0,prec=0,scale=0
    (3260008): EXECUTE:(DBI_DW_EXECUTE) (192.982 MS / 19171.691 MS)
    (3260008): FETCH NEXT:(DBI_FETCHNEXT)
    and this is the last line,
    while for retrievals that end, I have FETCH producing time, data in buffer and moving to the next Fetch until all data is retrieved
    On the side note, I have no problems with retrieving data either by SQL Developer or DbVisualizer.
    Problems started when I installed 11.2.0 Client. Even if I want to use 10.0.1 Client, the same problem occurs. So I guess something from 11.2.0 overrides 10.0.1 settings.
    I will appreciate any comments/hints/help.
    Thank you very much.

Everything was ok.Earlier (before installing new stuff) did you ever try retrieving data from big tables (like 240 and more records), if yes, was it working?Yes, with Oracle 10g client (before installing 11g) I was able to retrieve any data, either it was 10k+ records or 100 records. Installing 11g client changed something that even using old 10g client (which I still have installed) fails to work. The same problem occur no matter I'm using 10g or 11g client now. Powerbuilder hangs on retrieving tables with more than like 240 records.
    Thanks.
