Problem opening multiple images in external editor

I have Photoshop CS3 set as my external editor. In the past I cpould select multiple photos using shift-click OR command-click and select "Edit in external editor" and Photoshop will open all the images. I notice that in the latest version of iPhoto 7.1.3 (maybe in other 7.x versions) it will only open the first four images. If you use command-click to select non consecutive images it will only open the first consecutive set, up the the maximum of four as above, and none of the other non consecutive but selected images.
I have checked this with my separate TestAdmin account with the same result. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Using OS 10.5.2, iPhoto 7.1.3, PS 10.0.1

Mike
This is exactly as the makers of the application intended. It will only pass four pics at a time to the external editor. My guess is they made this decision to avoid the problem of inexperienced folk opening their entire library in PS by accident. Also, if I recall correctly, this has always been the case - and it certainly was in v6.
There is no workaround for this.

  • Problems opening multiple images as layers from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS6

I'm having trouble bringing multiple photos from Lightroom 4 into Photoshop CS6 as layers. In LR4, I select the multiple photos I want to bring in, right click and from the pop-up menu select "Edit In", then "Open as Layers In Photoshop...". Photoshop CS6 then opens but the photos do not load in. I then get an error in LR4 about a minute later that says "The files could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched." However Photoshop just opened before I got the error. How do I fix this?

Maybe a keyboard issue - shortcut key toggling multiple times. But, if you're sure your keyboard is fine, then try this:
Reset LR preferences:Windows 7/ Vista: The preference setting file is Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs, in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\. Rename/ move this file to a different location. LR will recreate preferences during next launch. See if this fixes the issue. The reason we're renaming or moving it is so that if it doesn't fix the error, you can move it back there so you don't have to recreate your in-application preferences again
Reset Photoshop preferences: Follow instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
See if either or one of the above suggestions works.

  • Can't open image in external editor, can't export images

    Greetings helpful Aperture experts,
I've just finished transferring aperture from one computer to a replacement unit. Except for being slow on my previous g5, it worked flawlessly at every level. However, now that I've xferred, I can't open Aperture images with an external editor, nor can I export the images to my desktop. Any help along these lines will be gigantically appreciated.
    gaylon

Thanks, ok, here is the info step by step:
When I try to pick any raw image, I am not able to export from Aperture. When I go into the finder and select "show master" then I am able to export from aperture. However, it seems that I am not able to export an image full size. I selected export image to full size jpg to my desktop. Nothing happens except that the window that indicates the image is exporting is open and it says estimated time less than a minute. Yet, there is nothing happening. Additionally, before I transferred Aperture over to my new g5, I could right click an image and had the option to open an image with external editor. Now, no such menu item is apparent. An update, the menu box that lets me know that my image is exporting is still open but there has been no progress. It will just sit there forever, or until I force Aperture to quit. Here's another strange goings on: One of my folders of raw images appear to be pixelated and of very poor quality, even when viewing the masters. The images have already been published by the client in their annual report, so I know that what I am seeing on the screen is not reality. Should I just uninstall Aperture and reinstall? Also, what will this do to the thousands of images in my libraries? Thanks so much for your input and help. In no way am I an expert, but I've been successfully using Aperture since it came out. That was on my G5 dual processor mac with pre intel configuration. Now, these strange things are happening with my new replacement G5 with the Intel processors. Thanks again.

  • Aperture 3.5 does not open all files in external editor (PS CS6)

When I select several photos in Aperture (which are parts of a panorama serie for example) and click choose to open them in the external editor (here Adobe Photoshop CS6), only a random subset are opened.
Aperture warns me if I want the (for example) 14 pictures to be exported for edition, I confirm, but I end up with only (for example) 9 photos in Photoshop. The missing ones can be any photos (not necessarily the first or latest).
Note that 9 is not an upper limit, I once opened 23 photos and only had 21 in Photoshop opened.
If I again select those same photos and choose to export them (either as PSD using the same format as with the Editor command, or asking for the original that was created for the external editor) to a folder. Then when I open all the photos at once form the finder (or Bridge) to Photoshop, I have all the photos in Photoshop. So Photoshop has no problem opening the files.
Do you have the problem too? How do you solve it?
For the time being I manually export the files, open them from the Finder, stitch them in PS and reimport the result in Aperture.
A bit tedious... If there is no work around, I will try to fiddle with some automation...
    Final note:
PS CS6, Aperture and OS X are all at there latest respective versions (i-e respectively: 13.0.6, 3.5.1 and 10.9.2)

I was just noticing this issue with A2.0.1
Selecting multiple files in A2, only one would open in Photoshop.
I have found that, if when opening files from Aperture, the color setting profile in PS is different than the color tag in the image, such as sRGB vs aRGB, the mismatch warning appears and stops subsequent photos opening.
If the image profile matches the color settings in PS, then all selected photos open from Aperture to PS.

  • Problem Using Aperture as an External Editor

I'm having a problem using Aperture as an external editor for iPhoto. I've set preferences to "Edit in Aperture" and selected the Aperture application. When I click edit a photo in iPhoto, Aperture fires up as expected, but it does not load my photo. Nothing seems to be exported from iPhoto into Aperture.
I can export the same photo to my desktop and then load it into Aperture fine.
When I set preferences to edit in CS2, this works fine, only Aperture seems to be the problem.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I'm using the following versions:
    - iPhoto 7.0.2
    - Aperture 1.5.4

If you have Photoshop CS2 then you'd have a better editor using it within iPhoto as follows:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Suddenly can't open multiple image files in CS5

I recently transferred LR 5.3 and CS5 (12.04x64X) onto a new PC (OS Windows 7 64-bit). Both programs are working fine individually. And single images in LR open just fine for editing in CS5. But when I try to open multiple images (to merge as a panoramic) or open multiple images as separate layers, nothing happens.  CS5 opens on top of LR, but the files themselves never open. No problems doing this a few days ago with my older computer (same programs, same operating system).
Any suggestions for fixing this would be much appreciated.

When you say nothing is showing up, do you mean it is as if you didn’t use File / Open, or is it more that there is something but it is gray or white or black without any image detail?  If the latter, perhaps something like a video driver update or system-level change has made things incompatible with how PSE11 tries to display images.
    Have you rebooted?
Have you reset your preferences?  You can do this by holding down Ctrl-Shift-Alt at the same time while PSE11 is starting up (or at least while the editor is starting up) and you’ll get a message about deleting the preferences file or not before you see the splash screen.   Various other key combinations will ask for an additional plug-ins folder or a different scratch disk location.  If you are going to delete your preferences file you might want to review the settings, first, in case there is something important you need to reconfigure once the preferences have been reset.

  • Photoshop CC crashes when opening multiple images

Has anyone else got this problem of PS CC crashing when trying to open multiple images? If you open one file at a time, there are no issues, but 2 or more and it crashes as shown below. I've tried it with JPG's, TIFF's and PSD's and still get the same problem.
I've also tried starting it while pressing alt/ctrl/shift, but still get the same problem.
PS CC is version 14.0, 32 bit, running on Windows 7 which is up to date. I do only have 4GB RAM, of which PS takes 60% of it according to the system info panel. Could this be one of the causes, or is it a bug in the software? I never had this problem before in CS6 or previous.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found it eventually!

  • Open untagged JPEG with external editor, then be attached with sRGB profile

    Hi there,
I wonder why I open untagged JPEG with "external editor" (Photoshop CS) , then the JPEG will be attached with sRGB profile. Of course my color setting on photoshop is "Use the embedded profile".
I think sRGB is the default RGB space of colorsync utility , because the profile is also sRGB when you check "Add Colorsync Profile" on iPhoto 6.
Anyway , I want to set up total Adobe RGB workflow , so does anybody know how to change sRGB profile to Adobe RGB profile when opening untagged JPEG directly with external editor?

Thank you for your reply , Lloyd.
I am sorry , but I noticed my misunderstanding message.
As you know , you can change raw and other image files to tiff or psd for external editor. You can select that on the preference. At this situation , if you pass nontagged image file to external editor , then automatically sRGB profile is attached.
I don't think this is related to export preset for JPEG file.

  • Is it possible to open multiple images in Photoshop as smart layers?

    Hi All,
After searching, I think I know the answer to this but thought I'd check, we have background plates with main images and love the open multiple images as layers option - but can you open multiple images as multiple smart object layers?
    Cheers

    This might work.
Edit: But it is a lot less sophisticated than the Load Files into StackScript.
    // select folder and place contents as smart objects;
    // 2013, use it at your own risk;
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {
    var myDocument = app.activeDocument;

  • Problem opening multiple pictures in Photoshop

Problem opening multiple pictures in Photoshop.  OldBob1957 has given me some suggestions on how to overcome this problem.  I tried to Edit.Purge>All, Reset Preferences, Delete the Adobe Photoshop x Prefs.psp folders and Ctrl+Alt+Shift on Photoshop startup.  Did not work, what next?  Delete all the PSP folders.?  There are 45 more in my computer.  Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Noel:
I reset the max memory to the high side as suggested but the results when I opened the pictures and changed them was the same.  I could open four but nto the fifth one.

PS:  In the event you haven't seen the start of the problem, I thought I would include it here:
I am working on a picture file, jpegs, changing the size, the level, etc. I open several pictures usually
3 or 4 and when I try to open the next I receive a pop up error message that says: "Could not
complete your request because of a program error.” This has just started to happen recently,
probably since I upgraded to CS6. Previously I could work on a file and have 100 or so pictures
open and still be able to open additional pictures. I have downloaded and in installed all available
updates and the message I receive when I check for updates is: “Your applications are up-to-date
as checked less than a minute ago.” I tried to Edit>Purge>All, Reset Preferences, Deleted the
Adobe Photoshop Ver. 6 Prefs.psp folder and pressed Ctrl+Alt+Shift on Photoshop startup and
deleted Adobe Photoshop Settings file. Did not work, what next? Delete all the PSP folders? There
are 45 more in my computer. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Preview won't open multiple images

When I open one image in preview, it opens fine. If I open a second image, the first image disappears. If I try and open multiple images at once, the drawer slides out, but it's empty, and again, only one image will show up. Any ideas?

Hello, if you cannot figure out how to fix the issue I have a nice PDF combiner and exporter, you can write in any application, Text Edit, Pages, Word, and export to PDF, combine with this tool.

  • Can't open image in External Editor.

Hello. I'm using Piccure as external editor for LightRoom 5.2. When trying to open image, I get "Image file -psn_0_S784964 doesn't exist", when my original image has different name. Image name is accepted by Piccure as first command line argument. Looks like LightRoom starts Piccure with wrong arguments.
Could it be that LightRoom starts external editor with different syntax then "/Applications/Piccure/Piccure.app/Contents/MacOS/psplugin /pathToFile/imagefile.tiff". Maybe in some cases it adds more arguments, or corrupts existing path to image?
    Thanks.
Here is the OS sys info as well:

What "original" camera file type are you using, how are you creating the TIFF files, and what bit depth (8, 16, 32)?  The Piccure FAQ says raw images need to be converted to 32/channel TIFF files, but under 'How To' it says:
Select “Filter/Piccure/Reduce camera shake...” (Lightroom®:Select “Photo/Edit in/Piccure”. Save the current photo as a copy(TIFF,16 Bit) and run piccure).
Also what are your External Editing Preference settings for Piccure?

  • Wrong filename used when opening image in external editor

When I select an image and choose Open in External Editor, the filename that is used for the opened image is the original filename given from the camera (DSC1234) and not the filename that I choose when importing (DATECUSTOMSEQ).
Why is this? Is this is a bug?

I don't want to export the file to Photoshop, because
I want to keep the modified version in the project in
Aperture, may be for a book later.
Aperture says "open version in external editor", but
it opens the version with the master file name.
    That's wrong!
But if it goes back into Aperture under the proper version, does it matter? It seems to me it only matters if you plan to save out the file directly from Photoshop, or if you have many photoshop windows open and want to reply on the version name to keep them stright (whcih I could see).
The reason Aperture uses the master name is because when you open a file for external editing you are actually creating a new master itself, and it's trying to make sure it is tied back to the real original master. All changes based on that externally edited version will treat the PSD or TIFF you edit externally as the new master (versions created against the old master) will still be based on the original master, not the new one...
That is why I advocate trips to external editors as the last step in an Aperture workfow. Otherwise you can end up making a lot of new versions in a hurry.

  • Exported images to external editor (Photoshop CS5) have missing adjustments

    Hi All
Wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. Basically if I select a image that has Aperture adjustments applied to it and edit in external editor (in my case CS5) the image opens without the adjustments, however if I export the image say to the desktop then open them in CS5 it is fine. The adjustments I made in aperture are contrast, curve vibrancy etc and some brush adjustments. Also I have heard that the sharpening brush adjustment is not exported ? Running a iMac on 10.6.4 and Aperture 3.0.3
Any help would be much appreciated.
    rgs
    Colin

If I take an image with a large number of adjustments including all the ones you've listed above, multiple brushes etc. and click open in CS5, Aperture takes a reasonable while to process the image, creates a psd with all the adjustments applied and then opens the 16 bit 300 dpi psd file in photoshop. So what you are describing is not a universal bug as it's been working as it should every time on my machine.
It may be a slight library corruption from your side.Your last description of long and short process times is telling. Have you done the basic checks? Rebuild database, check library permissions, ensure that the images in question on online if referenced etc?
Fill us in a little bit more about your setup - can you tell a difference between the images it works on and those it doesn't (RAW or jpeg, what flavour of RAW, referenced or managed, same camera or different) - and we'll see if we can help you further.
