Problem: Select ActiveX Class Browse... hangs LabVIEW (not responding)

Can anybody help with this problem...
When I right click either an "Automation Refnum" (front panel) or an "Automation Open" and click "Select ActiveX Class > Browse..." LabVIEW just hangs and becomes "(not responding)".
Strangely - if I drop an ActiveX container onto the front panel and right click this selecting "Insert ActiveX Object..." then LabVIEW lists a healthy selection of objects - which indicates that not everything about ActiveX is broke.
The crash/hang when trying to browse for ActiveX Classes occurs with all three versions of LV I have installed 7.0, 7.1 & 8.0.
Can anyone help - please.
Mark.

I tried it again after to get two screen captures (one with the LabVIEW Not Responsive message), unfortunately it is much faster when browsing after the initial search.  Probably because a list was populated somewhere.  So it's slow the first time...

  • The "hanging/freezing/not responding" problem that existed in all versions of Firefox 3.6 persists in Firefox 4.0

Starting on April 14, 2011, I tried installing Firefox 4.0, which I downloaded from the Mozilla site. The first couple of times I tried to install it, it corrupted Firefox file places.sqlite. I know this because the install renamed the file to places.sqlite.corrupt. Luckily, I had recent backups. My previous installed versions were 3.5.18, which I had been using up to this time, and 3.6.16. I tried installing 4.0 with 3.6.16 installed, which I installed only for the sake of installing 4.0, and with no previous version installed and got the same bad results. I finally got a "successful" install on April 16, 2011, with no previous version installed.
Early on I discovered that Firefox 4.0 hangs (Firefox not responding) when left to idle for exactly 5 minutes (I timed it several times after immediately starting Firefox), pegging a constant 50% of the CPU when it hangs. I left it in a hanging state for up to half an hour, but nothing changed. This problem existed for all versions of Firefox 3.6, which is why I didn't install version 3.6.16 until I was ready to install version 4.0. I never kept any version of Firefox 3.6 installed for more than a couple of hours because of this problem. I need to be able to let Firefox stay idle for long periods of time -- certainly for more than 4 minutes and 59 seconds -- without having it hang, and I was able to do that with all versions of Firefox prior to version 3.6. It's incomprehensible that Firefox 4.0 has to always hang if it's inactive for more than 4 minutes and 59 seconds, and it's incomprehensible that this problem has been present and persistent since version 3.6 was introduced. To believe that 4 minutes and 59 seconds is sufficient idle time for a browser is absurd. This was never an issue with any version of Firefox prior to version 3.6, this was never an issue with Netscape, and it's not an issue with IE 8.
There are 2 other problems related to the hanging problem. If the browser and the bookmarks library are both open and the browser is closed normally, the bookmarks library remains open. After being left idle for exactly 5 minutes, the bookmarks library hangs, pegging a constant 50% of the CPU. If Firefox 4.0 is restarted before the 5 minute idle limit, it starts successfully. If an attempt is made to restart it after the 5 minute idle limit, it won't start. If the bookmarks library is left open for less than 5 minutes after the browser is closed, it can be closed successfully. In all versions of Firefox prior to version 3.6, the bookmarks library automatically closed when the browser was closed. The other related problem is that Firefox 4.0 occasionally pegs a constant 50% of the CPU without hanging even while it is being used and even if the only thing open is the home page, which in my case is google.com. Firefox can be used while this is happening, but it is worrisome and shouldn't be happening. Normally, Firefox 4.0 uses no CPU when it is left to idle within the 5 minute idle limit.
Firefox 4.0 has not crashed on its own yet, so I've had no crash reports to send to Mozilla, but because I've had to use the "End Now" button on the Microsoft unresponsive program window numerous times to terminate it when it hangs, numerous Microsoft Windows dump reports have been generated, all of which I've sent to Microsoft.
The last fully working version of Firefox I had was 3.5.18. Unfortunately, I don't have the installer for that version and Mozilla doesn't make it available anymore. Also, it looks like version 4.0 altered the places.sqlite file such that I might not be able to go back to version 3.5.18 even if I could. If I could reinstall version 3.5.18 and get it to work with the altered places.sqlite file, I would, but it is outdated and no longer supported by Mozilla, and I only want to use up-to-date and supported software.
The hanging problem is totally intolerable and unacceptable. If I can't get a version of Firefox 4.0 anytime soon that doesn't hang after being idle for just 5 minutes (why 5 minutes???) or for any limited amount of time, I'll have to install and use Google Chrome as a permanent replacement for Firefox. (If I do have to replace Firefox with Google Chrome, how can I get my Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail links to open in Google Chrome when I click on them?) Based on other user feedback regarding this problem dating back to the very first Firefox 3.6 version, Mozilla has had ample time to resolve it. I have found other problems with Firefox 4.0, but I'm not going to bother telling Mozilla about them because if the hanging problem isn't resolved soon, I'll have to stop using Firefox permanently. I can't and won't tolerate the hanging problem. I have been using Firefox exclusively for many years, but my disappointment with it has been growing since version 3.6 was introduced and my patience has run out.
I would appreciate Mozilla letting me know within a week of this posting if they can't or won't fix the Firefox 4.0 hanging problem. If I don't receive a substantive response to this problem within a week, I'm going to have to abandon Firefox permanently and switch to Google Chrome. I'm also going to leave a negative review of Firefox 4.0 on CNET to warn other potential users of the hanging problem.
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition 32-bit SP3 on a Dell XPS 400 desktop computer. I have an Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz, 3.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 RAM @ 265MHz, RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory, and 190GB of free space on my hard drive. I am using COMODO as my firewall and Avira AntiVir as my anti-virus software. I am also using WinPatrol and Secunia PSI. My ISP is AT&T. My download speed averages 2.5 Mbps, and my upload speed averages 0.65 Mbps. All of my software is up to date, thanks to Secunia PSI and CNET TechTracker, and my computer is free from infection.

Another aspect of the Firefox 4.0 "hanging/freezing/not responding" problem has emerged. I have found that on the common occurrence when Firefox 4.0 occasionally pegs a constant 50% of the CPU while idling within the 5 minute idle limit and I close it normally, it disappears from the Task Bar but continues to run and continues to peg a constant 50% of the CPU. I tried restarting Firefox 4.0 and got the following message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." Before Firefox can be restarted, the existing Firefox process must be killed via the Task Manager or Process Explorer (I use the latter), after which a Microsoft Windows dump report is immediately generated. I always allow the dump to be sent to Microsoft.
The three big questions that have gone unanswered by Mozilla are 1) why did the hanging problem start with the very first release of Firefox 3.6, 2) why was the problem allowed to continue on up to and through Firefox 4.0, and 3) why hasn't Mozilla fixed the problem yet? And what is the significance of the 5 minute idle limit? Do Firefox 3.6 through 4.0 try to launch something when the browser and/or the bookmarks library have been idle for exactly 5 minutes? Maybe it's a problem with the number and/or type of plugins and extensions and/or the number of bookmarks. Maybe Firefox 3.6 through 4.0 work just fine if there are few to no plugins, extensions, and bookmarks, but that doesn't realistically accommodate users. Whatever the cause of the problem, Mozilla should have had a handle on it by now.
If anyone from Mozilla Support is reading this post, please let me know if it is possible to roll back Firefox 4.0 to Firefox 3.5.18. If it is possible, how do I do it, and where can I get the installer for Firefox 3.5.18? If I can reinstall it, I'll use it until Secunia Software Inspector informs me that it is insecure and no longer safe to use. At that point (maybe much sooner), I'll switch to Google Chrome exclusively because I don't want to use outdated software that is insecure and because I don't believe that Mozilla intends to fix the hanging problem and is willing to lose users over it. I certainly don't want to use software like Firefox 4.0 that has such an impactful problem. If I do have to abandon Firefox, how can I click on Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail links and get them to open in Google Chrome?

  • The download selected responses as PDF is hanging and not responding

The download selected responses as PDF is hanging and not responding on certain machines. Any suggestions?  I've tried from 4 different machines and only 1 works.  I can't find the common dinominator though as to why the other 3 wont.  It just hangs and never builds the form for download.  I need to be able to download it from any of my desks though, so need to find a solution and not sure even where to start looking.

We do support IE 7/8/9 and 10, this should be working in all...
Are the computers all on the same network?
On the machines where you cannot save the response as PDF can you "save/export" anything else?  Can you try, from the File menu "Export Responses" and see if you can export an Excel file of the responses?  Can you try an alternative web browser (Firefox or Chrome) on the machine/s that are not working?
When it does not work you are seeing a progress bar that never completes?  When you cancel that and try again you have the same result?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • When I select "Get Info" in iTunes, iTunes "NOT RESPONDING"

when I select "Get Info" in iTunes, iTunes "NOT RESPONDING"

What you see in iTunes is a database list which also contains unseen information as to which file iTunes should play on your computer when you click on a track.  Usually those files are in folders inside your iTunes > Media folder.  When iTunes asks you to find a file say yes and then guide it to the actual file you want it to play in your media folder.  It should then asks if you want it to find others and will re-scan the series of folders to rebuild the links.  If you cannot find the file on your computer then you will have to restore from a backup.

  • Selecting VI Server.Strictly Typed VIs in Class Browser crashes LabView

    Hi!
My LabView 8.0 Pro on WinXP crashes in the following way:
    0. Opening Blank VI.
    1. Placing VI ref num on the front panel.
    2. Going to "Select VI Server Class -> Strictly Typed VIs -> Browse..."
    3. Loading any VI (say, "myVI").
    4. Then going to menu: View -> Class Browser
    5. Selecting Object Library: VI Server.
    6. Selecting Class: Strictly Typed VIs - "myVI" icon.
Result: LabView crashes saying that there's error and application will be closed.
    Besides there's a little question:
Did I get it right that if I change myVI connector layout or pins it's not refreshed in my
VI ref num and I have to load VI again (see step 2)?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello,
I have reproduced this, but I think the menu navigation you indicated in step 2 has a mistake.  I reproduce it with the following steps, and have filed a corrective action request to R&D on the matter:
    0. Open a Blank VI.
    1. Place a VI Refnum on the front panel.
    2. Right-click on the VI Refnum and choose: Select VI Server Class -> Browse...
    3. Select any VI (say MyVI.vi).
    4. In LabVIEW click: View -> Class Browser
    5. Select Object Library: VI Server.
    6. Select Class: Strictly Typed VIs -> MyVI.vi connector pane icon.
Sorry for any inconvenience - the problem should be addressed in a future version of LabVIEW.
For your question, "Did I get it right that if I change myVI connector layout or pins it's not refreshed in my VI ref num and I have to load VI again (see step 2)?" - yes, I see the same behavior - you should save the VI and then select it again in the VI Refnum.

  • Can't find registered ActiveX class - where's LabVIEW getting this from...?

    Hi All
I'm trying to found out from where LabVIEW is getting this particular class from, since it isn't showing up when I open the Active X class browser, and yet somehow seems to be magically registered - I have some invoke nodes and it works fine. Why doesn't it show up in the class browser - shouldn't everything? Where else can I look for it? It's not a standard LV class, but a third party exe I installed. I know the class name (right clicking invoke, browse...). Ideas??

If you have a typelibrary you should probably use the regtlib.exe program instead. Some useful information might be found in this article. Of course if your library comes with an installer, the installer should have done this.

  • Firefox hangs, shows Not Responding, on start up and at random times

Firefox is hanging on start up and at random times during use. When I click the desktop icon it takes about 20-30 seconds and then opens the usual Firefox start page. However as soon as I move the mouse or try and use anything on the screen it hangs. The Firefox logo top left in the blue bar turns into a white box. After about 2 minutes it reverts to the Firefox logo and all starts working normally.
However every now and then the same thing happens, white box, and the Not Responding words in the top blue bar. Sometimes the whole webpage goes blank white, with only the very top blue bar and side scroll bars showing.
It reverts to normal after a minute or so.
This has happened with the last few versions so it is not due to the last update.
I've tried most things (plugins, stop hardware acceleration, etc) except the one below - maybe someone has an answer to why I can't do the one below?
I've read that you can try and correct by right clicking the decktop icon, choosing Properties, and then Select Compatibility and my Windows Program which is Windows XP SP3. However when I try this the latest Windows showing is 2000. - Maybe this is my problem - how do I get the comnpatibility to Windows XP S3?
    Thanks

  • I have recently been having problems using Firefox: it continually gives a "Not Responding" message.

I have been having problems using Firefox for the past few months:
Whenever I log on, I get a "Not Responding" message, and Firefox "freezes." I then have to "click" my mouse several times to again be able to use Firefox - but only for a few minutes. Firefox then freezes again and shows another "Not Responding" message.
Because of this repeated "crashing," I have been using I.E. as my browser, because it does NOT have any such problems.
How can I FIX this problem with Firefox?

  • Flash slows FF with hangs and 'not responding' messages.

Shockwave flash is causing hangs giving 'firefox is not responding' message and slows my internet experience. I know its the flash add-on because when i disable it, firefox performs much better. I've tried all the suggestions concerning flash problems on this site and nothing has worked. I am running win 7 64 bit (home premium). plus Firefox 36.0.1. All drivers appear to be up to date but i will double check.
my question is.... is there a way to easily disable/enable flash w/o going into the add-ons manager? Depending on what i'm doing, i'm in add-ons manager to either enable it when i need it or to disable it when firefox is slow and hangs.
I've gotten to the point where i just open add-ons manager in a tab and leave it open because i know i'll probably be in there turning flash on or off depending on how its effecting my machine.
Also, i tried running flash in 'ask to activate' mode, but you have to reload the page so it can find the add-on.
This problem has been ongoing for a couple of months now; Firefox performance used to be so much better but this problem doesn't seem to be getting resolved. I like firefox, I really don't want to go to another browser.
    Thanks,
    Duke

Hi Duke, your bookmarks and other Firefox data actually are in the C:\Users folder so it's safe to delete the folder under C:\Program Files (or C:\Program Files (x86) on 64-bit systems).
When you run the installer again, it should detect and use your previous settings folder. To get a clean start on that as well, you can:
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should come with completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
''This does not replace your existing setup; the new folder exists in parallel with your current settings.''
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
    ''Don't delete anything here.''
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like March29, and ignore the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Does that work any better?
Note: When returning to the Profile Manager to switch back to your normal profile, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

    Hello Guy.
First of all, and although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment as been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Printer Utility Keeps Hanging - "Program Not Responding"

I recently updated to 10.4.9 on my Macbook. While I thought everything went fine, I noticed when I can no longer open up the "Printer Utility." Upon a restart, it generally works, but after putting the computer to sleep, and upon the next launch of the Printer Utility, it simply hangs. Checking System monitor reveals that the program is not responding.
    Very vexing. Any ideas?

I have definitely confirmed the problem occurs immediately after a sleep cycle is initiated (from the apple menu).
I performed the following sequence, and the results are repeatable: (I am using OS 10.4.9. on a G5 iMac, 2GHx powerpc with 2 GB of SDRAM and a 400 Gig hard drive.)
    Boot the Mac.
Open Photoshop to see that it opens a jpg (it does).
Open Word and attempt to print an existing file (it will).
Put the Mac to sleep from the apple menu.
Wake the Mac and attempt to again print the same (open) Word document. Kernel Panic, spinning beachball, Word is no longer responding.
In the past, a related symptom would be that Photoshop could locate but could not open a jpg that previously it could open; instead a kernel panic, photoshop no longer responding.
I have done a hardware check, zapped the pram, used disk utility and diskwarrior. Everything is clean.
The problem would happen rarely in the past, but as noted, it now happens after each sleep cycle (not sure if I have to manually put it to sleep, but will check this next). I believe it may be linked with 10.4.9 but am not sure.
The only solution is a fresh reboot, and everything seems back to normal.

  • Problem with "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding" message

    Hello,
I am getting the "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding" message, visiting the site on which I am working on for one client. Site is http://www.puntacanajustsafari.com/
I have installed one flash widget for weathercast and imediatelly after installing I have got the message "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding"  - browser, buttons, scrolling - everything simply freeze! Few minutes just standing by, not responsive, and then eventually page start to scroll normally. Since then I changed widget position, made it to show on tour page only ( http://www.puntacanajustsafari.com/punta-cana-jeep-tour/ ) but after facing the same problems with flash thing I have removed it completely and installed one other widget and made separate page for weather information, that seems to work nicely (for now).
Problem is that I am still geting "frozen" page when visiting home page and tour page, even after clearing the page cashe and removing widget. This is happening on both browsers that I use (firefo and IE) so I am partially sure that is not a browser problem. This is first time happening to me, if somebody can figure out what to do, I would appreciate it.

Clear your browser's cache and cookies. I'm not seeing any issues in Firefox,  Chrome or IE

  • Why does firefox hang or not respond when I am using disable third party cookies setting

I have, by process of elimination, realized that when using the setting "allow third party cookies - 'never' ", causing my firefox to hang so much that I cannot use it. I have used that setting "allow third party cookies - 'never' ", for as long as it has been available. Over that last few months, I have been having problems with firefox hanging and getting the message "firefox not responding". It became very annoying, causing me to look for a solution. I read through the kb and tried many solutions. I can now say that when I change the cookie settting to "always" the problem goes away. It is helped only slightly by using the "from visited" setting. How can I fix this? I don't want all the cookies but I cannot surf with this problem constantly.

The problem is that "third party" includes both related servers and advertising networks; the setting is too crude to accomplish the objective of blocking tracking cookies that you don't want.
My compromise is to accept all third party cookies, but set cookie lifetime to "Keep until: I close Firefox." As a result, tracking is limited in time, even if during any given session I can be seen on different sites. (I also use the NoScript extension, so many ads driven by scripts never load.)
