Problem using a shared printer Canon PIXMA MG5140

Hi
I have a Canon PIXMA MG5140 Multifunction Printer Which is shared on my XP machine.
I have installed the drivers on my XP and my MBP also Printer is working fine when it's connected to each one of these machines via USB.
I have also added my printer on my Mac as a shared printer, but when I try to print something on my shared printer it's staying there with the status Printing on my mac and on the other side on my XP machine the job is added to my printer with the status spooling and it's not going to do anything, even waiting for 20 minutes doesn't help, it's not printing.
I have another printer shared on my XP machine and it's working fine with my MBP.
I also have another XP client which can work with both of my printers on my XP machine so I think there is something wrong on the mac side.
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you have the printer shared by Windows you cannot use the driver supplied by Canon. Instead you need to look at an alternate driver, such as those offered by [Gutenprint|http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php] or [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net>.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free while PrintFab costs €49. However the MG series is not yet listed as a supported model of printer with the latest version of Gutenprint so you may be forced to look at using PrintFab, which does list the MG series as a supported printer - although they don't list an 5140 but have the 5120 and 5150.
With PrintFab installed you can then add the printer via the Windows browser of Add Printer. And then for the Print Using menu you can select the MG PrintFab driver.

  • Scanner problems using windows 8 and canon pixma mx432. printer is set up but wont scan

I have my printer installed on my computer already but the scanning function is not even coming up to be able to use it. I recently was given a new computer and it has windows 8 on it. it took a lot to get it to even be installed on the computer but the scanner portion won't work. When I bring it up it has the section where the scanner should be but nothing is there to push. What can I do to get this function working correctly?

All the drivers for 4350D and MF4690 and a few more models I owned in a few more offices have the scanner bug in the drivers for Windows 8. No new drivers been released to fix the problem all those scanners I owned have. Now Canon just put the Windows 8_Notice_ENG inside the driver package and includes the [Limitations During Operation] that says:
When using the scan function while the device is connected to a computer by USB, removing the USB cable and then
plugging it back in or turning the device off and then on will cause the scanning function to be unable to execute. If this
    occurs, please restart the computer.
Seriously, Canon? Restart the computer everytime it doesn't work, and I have to go through the hazzle saving all the files I am working on just to restart to get the scanner to work? I have tried to mod the newer drivers for MF4770n and a few new models to make it work with those 4350D 4690 models, it will then detect the scanner without restart, but the scanner won't produce a readale image using my modified drivers. Now stick with VM Player running Windows 7 to scan the files with those old scanners. I won't buy another Canon scanners for my future needs if Canon just can't fix the Windows 8 driver problems all those scanners I owned.

  • Sharing a Canon PIXMA MP780 printer between OS using Airport Express

Hello.....I've been sharing a Canon PIXMA MP780 between a wired desktop PC and a wireless laptop PC. I recently got a new MacBook and want it to share the same printer. I set up my Airport Express with no problem, but my MacBook doesn't recognize the printer. I thought I just might need to update the printer drivers, but when I contacted Canon, they said this printer doesn't support networking between two different OS. Does anyone know if this is really true (we all know how often we get incorrect info from tech support types) and if it is true, has anyone found any work-arounds for this? Thank you!

I have a similiar problem, only it is reversed. Using the mac, it took me a minute to print wirelessly. But with the pc... I've used the entire evening, and it's still not possible.

  • Problem using File sharing  in a small office network

I have a problem using File sharing on an Imac and Macbook Pro.
My office has a small network running Windows Small office file server 2003. I have one Windows 2000 PC connected to it and 3 Macs, an 2.4 gHz Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 , a MBP running the same and a Mac Mini running 10.5.
From the Finder Shared window of the Mac Mini, I can see all the computers on the network. It also used to be the case for the iMac, but the MBP could never see the Windows PC’s, not the server or the Win2000. This wasn’t a big problem as I was communicating between the Macs and using the shared printer on the iMac.
On Monday Jan 19 the iMac was suddenly unavailable to the other 2 Macs. It was working normally on the Friday. The iMac can access the Mac Mini and copy files to it. The Mac Mini can see the iMac but cannot access it. Even trying to connect as, ends in a failed connection. I have tried rebooting, turning File sharing off and then on again to no avail.
The iMac now also cannot see the Windows PC’s which it previously could.
To get files from the MBP for printing, I now copy it to the Mac Mini and acces the folder from the iMac, a very tedious procedure. I don’t know why this happened and am scared that the Mac Mini is going to do the same thing.
All three computers are also running VMware 2.0 with Windows XP pro, and from VMware the server is visible on all the computers.
Any help will be much appreciated, I live in a small town in South Africa and the local computer suppliers have no knowledge of the Macs.
I think that the problem with the iMac may have started after a software upgrade to 10.5.6 but I am not entirely sure.
    Thank you

Well, you're current method sounds pretty good. But if you want to user a file server, hey go ahead.
What you want to do when you centralize project files is to keep track of which one is the newest and becareful not to overwrite files with the same name. So you either have to set up individual spaces on the server (separate AFP/FTP folders maybe), or you'll need to run a file checkout service.
The individual space is cheaper, but it's not much of a difference from backing up to the network drive. Since you have Gigabit connections, you might even opt to save ALL the user files on the server instead of just the project files.
If you want to run a file checkout service, there's two approaches. You can run a service that can host any kind of file, or you can run a version control system for each kind of application (Photoshop, Word, etc.). Please notice, that as you read further and further along, the methods become more and more expensive and complicated. Once you get to this point, it will be necessary to purchase or build software in addition to the Mac OS X Server package.

  • How can i connect my printer canon pixma mg7150

    Hello,
I don't find the good driver for my printer CANON PIXMA MG7150, and i use a usb cable.
    Is it good ?
    Thanks

I have been setting up the same printer this week, with a USB cable  to my iMac. I have taken Mac printer drivers from the Canon site.   Here is a link that I used.
    http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/ InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG7150.aspx?type=download&softwaredetailid=tcm:14-1 091005&os=OS%20X%20v10.9&language=EN
Apple have notified that they have newly updated printer drivers for this printer, which you can download if you have the other drivers in place.
    Hope this helps.

  • Please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

  • Have downloaded a driver for my printer ( Canon Pixma ip 4000) from suggestions on this page. It works up to the point of printing but then nothing happens. Can anyone help?

Have downloaded drive from my printer ( Canon Pixma ip4000) to my new macbook air. Used a driver as suggested in previous correspondence in this support group. It downloaded but it does everything up to the point of printing then it stops. Any suggestions?

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • Im trying to configure my printer 'Canon PIXMA MX3170' - however, I get Error during installation

Im trying to configure my printer 'Canon PIXMA MX3170'  -
I followed the following steps mentioned on some site:
"Follow below steps to setup Canon MG3100 printer to wifi using WPS function (by a button push on the wireless router/access point)
Press and hold maintenance button on printer. (button with screw driver and cutting pair symbol)
Now the LED should flash as '_'
Press and hold 'Fit to Page" button, now LED should flash as single dash moving vertically.
Once the LED flash is confirmed, press and hold WPS button on router/access point for about five seconds.
Printer should stop the flashing and LED should be back to normal displaying '1'.
This completes the setup and you are ready to use your printer wireless ".
    However,
1.LED on my printer flashes 1-2-3-E instead of a steady 1.
    2. Error message during installation : "An error occurred while communicating with the printer"
    3. Im using a netgear router - and I don't know what is an access point and how to configure it for the printer.
    4. I think I pressed the right button - (WPS button) - button with symbol  having a tower emitting waves.
My installation as a result - failed. Need your help.

  • Printer Canon Pixma MP620, Wifi problem

I have a new Canon Pixma printer mp620 (USB / LAN / wifi)
I can not get the printer with the wifi ?
It works well with USB cable directly on the iMac!
This printer is used in a wireless network with a Windows XP computer with a wireless modem router USRobotics
What is wrong with the iMac ?
Tips: the printer works well in wireless with the PC WinXP
Canon doesn't propose new driver on www.canon.com !
    Thank you in advance ...

If you want to connect to the MP620 via wireless, then the instructions are stating that you need to have your wireless access point (the wireless router) ready and you need to know some information about the router, such as its SSID (its name) and any password you will need to connect to it.
The setup is pretty easy. It's just the manual tries to cover too many options.
First you must have the printer driver installed and be connected to it via USB. This is so you can communicate with the printer to configure the network (LAN) settings.
With the printer appearing in the Printer list, you can open the printer queue and select Utility. From the new window, select the Printer shown as a USB device and click the Network tab. This will guide you through connecting it to your wireless network. This is where you need to know your access point information. Once the printer is connected to your wireless network, you will be prompted to turn off the machine and then unplug the USB cable. When you turn the printer back on, you can then add the printer queue again, this time for the network connection. As others have said above, select to Add then select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The MP620 should appear in the list, which you select and then click Add. Now you are ready to print...

  • Hi - new to the forum. I am unable to get the true colour printing I am used to from my Canon Pixma 9500 mk2 since moving to a mac and using Aperture. The colours are simply not representative of the on-screen image. Any ideas?

Whatever I do with installing or de-installing printer drivers, selecting or deselecting colour synch or colour management options, the colour is simply awful compared to what I have been used to fir years, using the same printer with a pc and a 10 yeart old version of paintshop Pro. What is going on!??

First guess is that you are subjecting the data to two passes of printing conversions.  If you use Aperture's color management for printing, you _must_ disable the color controls in your printer dialog.
How this is done varies for each printer.  (The Aperture User Manual says, in full:
To turn off color management for your printer
Refer to the owner’s manual that came with your printer.
Additionally, make sure you have the most recent printer driver for your printer and OS.  Printer makers have gotten good at making these files easy to get.  Most now come with installation instructions.
Lastly, the only way to ensure that you get a good screen-to-print match is to use a hardware device to calibrate your monitor.  That doesn't seem to be your problem, though.

  • Problem Connecting to Shared Printer on Leopard from Windows XP

    Hey guys,
Just installed Leopard yesterday, and I have a Canon PIXMA MP160 printer connected via USB.
I have set the printer to be Shared, and enabled Printer Sharing in the Sharing preferences.
However, when I try and connect to the printer from a Windows XP laptop, it says: Access Denied, Unable to Connect.
I imagine that this is because I would have provide a username / password combo in order to access the network resources on my Leopard machine. I just can't figure out how to send the credentials, or disable the login necessity if needs be.
If this isn't the problem, or if it cannot be fixed then the alternative is to connect the printer to my router, which shares it via SMB. Now that's fine when I want to connect to it from Windows, but I can't figure out a way to set it up on Leopard.
The MP160 driver that comes with Leopard isn't marked as "Modern" which, according to the documentation means that it cannot be used to install IP or Windows Shared printers.
So my question is, to sum up, is there a way to fix the access problem when trying to access a shared printer on Leopard from Windows, and is there any way I can install and use the printer from Leopard while its shared from my Router via SMB?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit:
I just thought it would be helpful to say that I'm able to connect and browse through SMB shares from Windows Systems, and I'm able to connect and browse through shared volumes on Leopard from Windows. It's just the printing that's not playing fair.

I had Bonjour for Windows working on two XP machines before I upgraded to Leopard. After that when the Bonjour printer would not work I deleted it from the XP machines and re-ran the Bonjour Setup App. It can find the printer every time, but it will not finish and will give me an error instead.
I've also verified that I have Printer Sharing turned on and the printer is specifically set to be shared. I'm out of ideas.
Has anyone heard reports of Bonjour 1.0.4 not working with Leopard or just being buggy under similar circumstances? If that's not the problem, then I must be missing something. Suggestions welcome.

  • Printing to Windows Printer (Canon Pixma iP1500)

I have a Canon Pixma iP1500 connected to my Windows PC, shared on my home network. On my MacBook I can see the Windows PC and can even see the printer but when I add it the model doesn't show up in the list of printer types.
If I plug in the printer directly to the MacBook it works fine but not across the network.
I have searched the forums and found some suggestions, none of which work. I even tried something called "PrintFab" and it doesn't work either.
This is so frustrating. I'm a new Mac user and I want to be able to print from my MacBook without having to plug it into the printer.
    Any suggestions?

I too am new to Mac. I downloaded and installed the printfab trial version and followed the instructions included. This problem has been driving me nuts for several days now... My MBP now see's and PRINTS great so far, thanks for your post and help!!

  • Borderless printing - Canon Pixma mini 320

Printing from Aperture2.1 to my Canon Pixma mini 32 printer, I am unable to do a borderless 4 by 6 print. When using "Print Image" 4" * 6" (borderless) was selected, Layout options set to "scale to 4 * 6). No borderless printing is achieved.
Canon says that this is an Aperture problem.
    Any suggestions?

You've marked your question as answered, even though no answer has been posted. I just ran into this problem myself, so I thought I'd post a link to the most likely solution:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302816
The article is from 2005, by the way. I wonder why Apple doesn't seem to want to fix this obvious bug? Why should it matter in which order the settings are made? Apple usually understands user-friendly design, but maybe they should give their Aperture team an extra training course on that subject...
