Im just trying to create a simple triangle, but photoshop creates other chapes in addition when create it. Please see my attached image. The shape i created is the triangle, and photoshop put in the rest. This only happens when the shapes I create is big, when i create a smaller triangle, it all appears normal. Why is this happening? It enoying when i just want to create simple shapes.. I know im not an expert in photoshop, but i never thought i would ask questions about this:)

You don't say what version you are using.
you don't say what computer you are using.
you don't say what OS you are using.
I personally have never seen this. What I do when things start acting goofy is trash the prefs. If you do not know how to do this it is covered in the FAQs the link is on the right side of the photoshop forum.

  • What happened to Alt + Scroll Wheel Zooming while using Polygonal Lasso Tool?

My issue is that when I am working with the Polygonal Lasso tool I am no longer able to use Alt + Mouse Scroll wheel to zoom in and out while making my selection. I have found other ways to zoom in/out, but none are as efficient and fast as the method I just described. I used this function in previous versions of Photoshop and can’t imagine why Adobe would remove it from CS6. Is there a way to re-activate this function?

Were you using a mac (works in photoshop cs4 on a mac) before or which photoshop version on a windows system did that work?
Anyway on windows you could press the spacebar and alt or ctrl and click on the screen to zoom.

  • Image disappears when using polygonal lasso

Today I have been using the polygonal lasso tool to define a selection on a photograph and after 3 or 4 "points" that I have clicked to create a border I want to define the image goes to white so you cannot see anything anymore except the string of the lasso path I was creating. Now there is a long sentence! It happened throughout yesterday as well. I have rebooted the computer but continues to have this problem.
I couldn't think of a short, clear description to search for so am asking for some help as a new discussion.
Any ideas of what is going on and how to correct?
    Thank you.

  • When using the lasso tools, how do i disengage from it, in order to adjust it?

When i am in the process of creating a selection, with the lasso tools, I would like to disengage from the tool, briefly to adjust my selection and then to return and continue to make the selection.  If i press the space bar, it does disengage; but the hand tool becomes active at the same time. If i click on the options with the tool, to either add or subtract from the selection, as i drag the mouse to do this, i cause the tool to continue to outline, when i would like it to stop. It seems to remind me of when i used to use an old etcher sketcher magnetic drawing toy, from the late 1970's. ( if you are old enough to know what i mean that is)! Does anyone have a solution to this problem.

The magnetic lasso tool is very useful and is suited admirably for selecting tiles or shingles. It is important to set up the tool for the task at hand. In the tool's option bar I start out with Feather=1px, check anti alias, Width=2px, Contrast=3%.
If things don't go well, the first  change that I make is to the contrast setting and give it another try. One can back-track by hitting delete on the keyboard, left click to lay down one or more anchor points, then go on to circumnavigate the area to be selected.
Now, after having made a complex selection, going to Layer>new>layer via copy puts the selection on its own layer, with surrounding transparency (checker-board pattern). One can use the eraser tool to tidy up, if required.
I offer this as my workflow. Not infrequently there are several ways to do things in this program.

  • Polygonal Lasso Tool problem report

Hi, After I have updated my MAC OS X Mavericks this morning my Polygonal Lasso tool started to work funny, it jumps and auto closes, I can't use it anymore. Before that I never had any problem with the polygonal lasso tool and was able to cut any shape with it. I tried to updated my photoshop to the latest version but it didnt help. Any idea if this has something to do with the latest OS X? If so, is there anything I can do to get my polygonal lasso tool work again? Thanks!

I was having the same issue and I just installed the plug-in which seems to have solved the problem.
In Photoshop CC on a brand new iMac running OS 10.9.2, the polygon lasso tool wasn't responding properly and when using brushes the program would randomly freeze. These were only a problem when I was using my Wacom Intous 4 tablet, when using the standard Apple mouse the brushes and lasso worked fine. Both issues seem to be ok after installing the plug-in and the tablet seems to be working ok. Thanks Adobe

  • Why does my photoshop keep giving black and white lines when I use my lasso tool?

It filles the Whole lasso seleted box with (what it almost looks like) black and white caution lines. then when I go to zoom out, my zoom option starts to mess up where you cant click and move your mouse to zoom in/out with ease but where you have to click to zoom out (many times).
    Can ANYONE help me?

I am using CS5, WIndows 7, I am not sure how to tell if my drivers are up to, and I am more than happy to screen shot it.

  • Polygonal lasso tool not working with stylus on Surface Pro 2

    Hi guys,
I'm new here so please bare with me if I'm posting in the wrong place or don't make immediate sense.
Hardeware / software used: surface pro 2 and I'm running photoshop CS5.
Problem is a fairly basic one: I am trying to make basic selections using the polygonal lasso tool (using the stylus that comes with the tablet) but it simply will not work. All I get when I touch the stylus to the screen is the circle that appears then fades. If I attach the keypad and try using that then it works no problem at all.
Does anyone have any ideas as to whether there is a particular setting that I need to switch on or off e.g. something relating to pressure sensitivity (although not sure why this would affect this particular selection tool)?
I've searched the web and come up with nothing so far so any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for your time
    Scott

same problem on surface pro 3 !!!!
and i think quite significant, for lot of artists using polygonal lasso a lot (including me). How come that the stupid surface cannot work properly

  • About Using Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended

    Hi All
I seem to be having a problem using the Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended as when I get half way around an egales beak zoomed in at 66.67% and start to single click around the tight corners the photo is covered over with a white background and the palettes to the right of the Photo e.g. layers, channels, paths becomes white to and all you can see is the paths that the Magnetic Lasso Tool has made around the beak until you click any key on the keyboard but the annoying thing about doing that is that the path automatically becomes selected there for I am unable to draw the paths around the rest of the beak does anyone know of a patch of some kind that will correct this error?
Many Thanks For Reading This And May Be Replying To it.
    All The Best. Regards,
    Oliver
P.S I have downloaded and installed all of the updates for all Adobe and Adobe CS3 Software.

    Oliver,
We have the same exact issue here with the Polygonal Lasso tool. Get anywhere from 20-80% around an object and it hiccups once and then locks up for a moment causing you to loose whatever you've been selecting.
Symptoms include toolbars and palettes turning white and screen freezing for a moment.
Is there an official word on this from Adobe? Or better yet, a solution?
    Thanks,
    George

  • Polygonal Lasso Tool and White menus bug in Mavericks - help!

After installing Mavericks I´m having so much trouble with the lasso tool and white menus in photoshop that it is really breaking my production speed and causing a lot of problems for me.
Especially the Polygonal Lasso Tool, how its auto completing when painting with a tablet.
Sadly I´ve upgraded to Mavericks, and I wish I never did that. Because these problems never occured in Mountain Lion. I´ve tried going back 3-4 steps on the tablet drivers - but no luck. I tried reinstalling photoshop and I´ve tried pretty much anything I can think of but nothing helps. I deperately need to fix this and I have a long line of architectural illustrations coming up and it takes me a lot more time working with masks if I cant do it with a tablet...
I hope Adobe reads this! But if there´s anyone with a similar problem that has found a workaround or something I can do to fix this, please help!

Yes, 3 MAJOR problems which bugs the hell out of me.
-The white menus (which I assume Adobe is going to fix, since its a very common problem and it has gotten a lot of complaints)
-The polygonal Lasso tool (which Adobe has not responded to at all ) and I assume its something everyone with a wacom struggle with in Mavericks, but not everyone is that dependent on this tool, which we haven´t seen more complaints.
-The keyboard doesn´t always respond to a keystroke, and you have to do a left click for it to start reacting again. (which I also assume is something everyone with Mavericks is experiencing, but you need to use the keyboard a lot to notice it.
But why Adobe hasn´t given a single reply to the threads (except those about the white menus) about these problems baffles me I guess if they don´t know of a quick fix, it´s better to ignore it entirely. I´m considering every day if I should take the time to revert back to Mountain Lion - though that isn´t exactly a tempting solution. It´s weird how Mavericks can create that many bugs to Photoshop and why there´s not any info on any bug fix updates in the near future. I´m paying a lot of money for this software. I should get better customer care for this. ...sorry for ranting, but it´s making me more frustrated every day.

  • Who knows why photoshop polygonal lasso tool is slow scrolling to the left?

I have two versions of PS, CS5, and now CS6. The tool I use most often is the Polygonal Lasso Tool. I just got CS6, and discovered an old problem had surfaced, one I had years ago and I had long forgotten about. The photoshop polygonal lasso tool is painfully slow when scrolling to the left of an image enlarged enough to go off screen. Because this feature works fine in PS/SC5, I assumed it wouldn't be a problem in CS6. Unfortunately, the problem does exist in the new CS6. The problem  forced me to reformat the computer, thinking okay, maybe, just maybe something somewhere got corrupted. And yes, it worked for about a half hour after the format; then it reverted back to this simply bad behavior of scrolling painfully slowly ONLY to the left. Even if I hold the Shift Key, which should double the speed, it is just so slow, it is unusable. All the while, it works just fine in PS/CS5. Have you folks experienced this problem? I spoke with a few Adobe support techs, and they don't know what the problem is. In fact, they're clueless about this problem; so I am hoping one you may know of a solution! Thanks!

Have you tried asking about this on the Photoshop forum? You're more likely to find a solution, or at least common sentiment, from the Photoshop folks over there.

  • Using the Lasso Tool crashing Photoshop CC

    Hi,
Looking for some help as to why Photoshop crashes at least once a day, sometimes more when using the basic Lasso Tool.
I'm using Photoshop CC, and it's completely up to date. I'm on Windows 8.1.  I'm a freelance illustrator and use the lasso tool when doing all of my artwork.  It crashes on any image I'm working, smaller stuff to larger files, from small amount of layers to over 200.  I'll use the lasso, typically holding alt to use the polygonal option and I'll notice when clicking to close my shape, photoshop will completely stop working.  I'll have to open the task manager and completely end the program.  Crashes across the board from CMYK to RGB, in 8 bits.
Looking for some help / ideas.  Please let me know if you need any other info, thanks.
    Kevin

    Hi Chris,
I've updated the system driver on the wacom, which was released in March.  I also tried the mouse and also seems to be up to date.  Here's a shot of the task manager when freezes.  Does that help at all?
I've just had a freeze 2 minutes ago.  I've been waiting for it to happen, hoping the wacom driver might change.  Apparently not.
