Problem with coolers in Asus Eee pc 1011 px

Well I installed Arch in this netbook and the performance is wonderful, but i have an important problem. The fans dont seem to regulate themself and they dont start speeding when the netbook is getting hotter. Is there any way to solve this, like setting them to be always at the maximium speed or something like that ?
Thanks.

What netbook do you have?
Check wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fan_Speed_Control
In AUR you have some packages to control fans.

  • Asus Eee PC 1011-PX - Fn Keys

    Hi all
    I tried these :
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/acpi-eee/
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/acpi-eeepc-generic/
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/e3acpi/
and many other topics about Fn keys problem in Arch linux with Asus eee series , but I haven't found my model (1011PX)
when I want to setup "acpi-eeepc-generic" , it says :
    "   >>> You're model 1011PX is not (yet) supported.   "
I just can use brightness keys without any others like sound volume, monitor power off, sleep , ... .
I will be thankful if you answer
    Thanks

Rather than begging and bumping (one against forum culture, the other against forum rules) how about you actually describe the problem.  What is happening, what do you want to happen?  Are we expected to read the three linked threads which *don't* apply and try to infer what you want help with?
Is this for archlinux, or for Chakra?
    Thanks for this vitriolic+useful reply.
I heard that Arch forum is so active. I didn't expect that my question remain unsolved for more than 2 days
,sorry, it seems I was wrong.
I think that I described the problem clearly :
"I just can use brightness keys without any others like sound volume, monitor power off, sleep , ... ."
which proportionately to the subject (="Asus Eee PC 1011-PX - Fn Keys") means that my Fn keys don't work except
    brightness keys(10/12 keys don't work).
Who is talking about Chakra? I'm using Arch. It's better to concentrate on my first post+subject of the topic
instead of reading my posts belong to the ancient times.
sorry for breaking rules, delete this topic if you want, I ignored my question,I should be silent and just google.

  • [UEFI] Problem with efibootmgr on asus 1215b

    Keeping the story short:
    - Bought an asus laptop the last month ( Asus eeepc 1215b with AMD e-450 APU).
    - Verified that system has uefi, hard drive comes formatted with old mbr.
    - This past week i've been having fun: delleted all partitions, created gpt disk, created new partitions, etc.
    - Succefully installed arch with archboot on a pen drive, skiped installing grub2, chrooted new installed system, succefully installed grub2 on efi system partition.
    - Tried running efibootmgr so i could see the grub2 entry in the uefi boot options, but every time i run the program it crashes and most of times locks the system.
Tried looking for bugs related to efibootmgr but noting relevant comes up.
The uefi shell reports that the system comes with uefi ver 2.0.
I'm pretty sure that the problem lies in the asus inplementation since i can't even install windows 7 x64 sp1 on the system because the installer keeps rebooting the system with BSOD...
The system has other "problems" in linux but i don't want to worry about them for now (watchdog error message, probably fixed on 3.1 kernel, broadcom wireless works ok with the driver from staging but with messages of missing funcionality, battery life reduce 2 hours compared to windows, etc).
Rigth now my only way to start the system is to always load the uefi shell and then lauch grub.efi manually.

@Diaz, the bug has been reported in Ubuntu here:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/879858
It may be worth following it. Also it would be nice if you mark it as it affects you, to increase it's priority.
Also there's a way to improve boot procedure:
    1) Create a file startup.nsh in your /boot/efi with the following content:
    fs0:boot
    2) Create a file called "boot.nsh" in /boot/efi with the following content:
    fs0:
    cd \EFI\ubuntu
    grubx64
    This will reduce boot procedure to just <F2> <left> <up> <enter> <enter>

  • Linksys wireless router G problem with ASUS Eee PC 1000H laptop

This is a new laptop with a Ralink rt2860 chipset. Problem: I have trouble connecting to the router at my office. When I can connect, I often get such a low connection speed that the signal drops out and I lose the connection entirely. I have no trouble connecting to other routers. ASUS tech support says this is not a problem with the laptop. The rep told me that some "older" routers have a problem recognizing the Ralink chipset. Logically, if I can connect but it drops out, does this indicate a need for a signal booster? Does anyone know about any related compatibility issues? Thanks for any help; this is driving me nutty!

I know just enough to be dangerous. How is the change the channel on the router changed? Sounds like a system administrator job...

  • Issues with Arch, xorg and Asus eee 4G 701

Hello, this is my first post here
I installed Arch 2009.02 on my Asus eee 701(4G), the installation went well and the system was up and running within minutes. I configured the wireless card (Atheros) which arch supported out-of-the-box and updated the system with pacman -Syu. Then, I installed the intel driver for the vga of the eee and attempted to configure X.
The issues started at this point. "Xorg -configure" appeared to work, but when I did "X -config /root/xorg.conf.new" all I could see was the mouse cursor as an X and nothing more. The touchpad didn't respond and nothing worked.
Then, I tried using "xorgcfg" but even though the screen worked great (I could see the stuff displayed), the system couldn't receive any input from the touchpad and thus the result was just a little bit better than with "Xorg -configure". I tried to reboot and use a USB mouse to see if the cursor responded but to no avail...
As a last resort, I decided to use the xorg.conf found on the eee page of the archwiki. I downloaded it in my PC, saved it and used wget to move it from my ftp server to the eee. I moved it to /etc/X11/ as xorg.conf and attempted to run "X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf" to see if it worked. Unfortunately, no result. xorg attempted to start and then quit with the error "Fatal server error:  no screens found".
That's pretty much it... I have no idea what to do next or why the xorg.conf found in the Arch wiki doesn't work... Any suggestions would be really appreciated...

I did what you suggested above, but it still fails. Then I studied the log and I found this:
Parse error on line 10 of section files in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
"RgbPath" is not a valid keyboard in this section
Any suggestions on how to solve this?
EDIT: OK, the discussion page on the Archwiki helped. All I had to do was remove the  'RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb"' line and xorg worked flawlessly

  • Problems with Comodo Kill Switch, Windows Services & Bitlocker Encryption on Asus N56VZ

    Hi All,
So recently I found myself stuck in a different scenario than before, and after many hours researching and efforts to fix this I still find myself stuck  yet with a few options still to fix.
    What is the problem?
So as a security cautious user when i first got to Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit I encrypted both the C and D drive (Split the main disk) to protect myself and my family. Unfortunately that has not been very helpful with the way in which booting and running from
either external USB devices or CD/DVD works, not allowing myself to at all.
My usual security suit I  use is Comodo Internet Security, which additionally comes with Comodo Kill Switch. Whilst using the application instead of stopping one of the TCP connections I was meant to I accidently stopped an Windows Explorer connection.
For some reason since then Windows Explorer, nor most windows apps or services themselves will run. For example msconfig will run but sfc /scannow or mmc will not, whether in safe mode or normal mode.
    What Caused the Problem?
    Cannot 100% say
What I Think Caused the Problem?
Myself running Comodo Kill Switch stopping a vital server connection with Windows Explorer that messed up alot. Or a potential Virus unknown how cannot fully scan system as wont boot externally or run many apps.
    Additional Info
Asus Webcam is Disabled on Purpose
Laptop was fully customized to run latest games full graphics minus Anti Aliasing, works with Evolve + CoD Advanced Warfare
Laptop does not boot if USB Keyboard plugged in, works with everything else normal (had this on other systems no problem for me)
Ask me for more info if required to add here, braindead again

What Can Run and Won't Run?
    ON BOOT:
Bitlocker Encryption Password & Advanced Settings are accessible
    Bios (password protected) is accessible
Windows Recovery Mode is accessible (Think it is F9 or F10)
Windows Logon Password Screen is accessible
    ON NORMAL/SAFE-MODE START UP:
After Log-In Windows Explorer will not run
Task Manager will run, also allows me to browse the files when trying to start new task
    Can run Command prompt
Cannot run any control panel items
    Cannot run services.msc
    Cannot run mmc
    Cannot run sfc
Every time it metions windows drive is locked
Start Error's when running certain applications (Will post codes soon)
    Rufus USB Tool does run
Cannot boot Kali Linux off USB
Cannot boot Windows 8.1 off USB
Cannot boot Windows 8.1 off DVDRW
    Fixwin2 will not run
Apps either work or don't whether in safe mode or normal
    Cannot use Windows Installer
What Fixes I Have Tried So Far
Ok so like any normal user I don't want to lose my files. So here are what I have tried so far:
Repair MBR (Repair Completed, No Luck)
SFC /SCANNOW (Returns Error 'Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service')
Tried sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows (Could not access drive)
Fixwin2 (Will not run in either normal or safe mode)
Booting using Windows 8.1 via USB (Cannot boot from extermal devices due to Bitlocker Encryption)
Booting using Kali Linux Via DVD & USB (Cannot boot from external devices due to Bitlocker Encrytption)
How do I know it is because of Bitlocker, because last time I disabled it, I could run from external devices
Tried to run bitlocker to change settings (Will not run)
Have used both password and recovery keys to unlock driver, they work but when applications are running on windows the drive is still locked?
Tried windows Automatic Diagnostic and Repair (Could not repair anything, did make a log I am still to extract from the syste)
There are No System Restore Points
I'm sure there is much more information I could post however I will leave it on an ask to know basis, apart from the log files and further information to gather. Below is my list of trial and error fixes to try for today (need more ideas and help please!):
Hiren's 15.2 Boot CD via DVD (NOT ABLE TO BOOT)
Hiren's 15.2 Boot CD via USB (NOT ABLE TO BOOT)
Research into the Bios and Possible Update in-case of implementation of Virus, can access flash utility (STILL NOT TESTED)
Try and get a portable version or a working version of windows installer to try and re-install Comodo Internet Security (STILL NOT TESTED)
    Another way to disable Bitlocker
Anti-Malware / Anti-Virus Scan If Possible to Run One
Bitlocker Repair Tool, will try this also
I have posted this as have not found much info online, usually find it and crack on but this time things are a little more tricky, my priority task I really need to do is remove the Bitlocker Encryption, but if the application will not run... what do I do
    then?
Thanks for your time reading all, Sorry for any poor formatting or spelling.
    Update 1: MMC.exe Error Code
Ok so now have the computer in safe mode, still same as before, no explorer.exe, no services etc... Just went into the Task Manager > Services (Tab) > Open Services (Option at bottom)
This is the error I get:
'The Instruction at 0x785a746c referenced memory at 0x000000a8. The memory could not be read.
Any Ideas on what this error is and why?
Update 2: CHKDSK Works with no Fix
Update 3: Hiren's 15.2 Boot CD - USB Boot still no luck booting around Bitlocker Encryption
Just to explain again, I already have unlocked the drive with correct bitlocker password or recovery key yet the drive remains locked not allowing windows refresh of files of complete install from the windows recovery menu as keeps saying drive is locked

Ok so attempt number two to write this update via bloody phone! (Just refreshed page whilst writing!)
    Update 4:
Problem - cannot run from bootable devices (DVD/USB)
Cause - bitlocker fully encrypted drive stops this working
Repair - Boot up holding F9 to enter windows recovery Input Bitlocker recovery keys to unlock drives
Navigate to Command Prompt in advanced settings Execute following code:
    Repair-bde c: d: -rp 000111-222333-444555-etc...
    (Code found from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219%28v=ws.10%29.aspx)
Note for those using this: It is common while unlocking certain drives to get errors such as: Quote from http://www.benjaminathawes.com/2013/03/17/resolving-partial-encryption-problems-with-bitlocker/
"LOG INFO: 0x0000002aValid metadata at offset 8832512000 found at scan level

(0×00000017) …followed by around 20 similar entries that differed only by the offset value"
Repair Status for Update 4: COMPLETED - However over wrote D drive data so now need to recover that
Problem 2 - windows services corrupted along with windows files
    Cause - Unknown
Repair - wait until system is fully decrypted Once fully decrypted ensure boot from USB/DVD
Re-do fixes that would not work before if this has fixed boot issue Confirm fix / update post Hope anything I put here helps others also

i have asus m4a785td-v evo mobo. i ve bought 4 gb crucial ballistix ram today. it says on product its 1600 mhz and cl8 but it shows on my pc 1333 mhz and cl9.  when i was searching for this problem i came across this topic: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-Ballistix-gaming-memory/Memory-Probleme-With-8GO-Crucial-Ballistix-and-Asus-M4A785TD-V/td-p/9464 can i apply the same settings? how can i fix that?  is it possible via bios settings? thx in advance and sry for my bad english. here is some screenshots:

I am not good at RAM setting but the 'Timings Table' shows there is XMP-1600 profile available so I believe it would be enough to turn on that memory profile in BIOS.

  • [SOLVED]Asus UX32VD, problems with ACPI and Intel video driver

    1. The bigger problem seems to be Intel video driver:
When xf86-video-intel is installed, screen stays black after booting. By adding "nomodeset" to grub doesn't help. If I don't start gdm while booting, I can boot to command line with "nomodeset".  From command line I tried "startx", but X doesn't start, probably because "nomodeset" has disabled KMS and I've understood that Intel driver needs KMS for GNOME.
When xf86-video-vesa is installed instead of intel driver, screen is still black. By adding "nomodeset" to grub, I can see only mouse at gdm. If rebooting computer without gdm, I can start gnome from command line with startx and it works nice.
In both setups I can connect to laptop with ssh when screen is black. With ssh I checked screen brightness, but it was maximum.
    Intel driver version: xf86-video-intel 2.20.1-3
    2. The problem with ACPI is found from dmesg, I don't think this effects to graphics problem, because with vesa driver and "acpi=off" set to grub I can start Gnome with startx. I don't even know if it effects at all on my system, dmesg shows error which effects to displayport( intel_dp_i2c_aux_ch error) these maybe related to each others:
    [ 2.588023] ACPI Error: Needed [Buffer/String/Package], found [Integer] ffff8801271a6000 (20120320/exresop-590)

There is log files while booting with Intel driver and gdm set to start at boot in rc.conf, the screen is black, but got logs with ssh:

Sometimes with Intel driver I can see mouse while loading gdm, but then it goes to black.
I tried to boot with Intel driver with "drm.debug=14" and "log_buf_len=16M"  as boot parameters. There is debug log from gdm, it seems to have some errors, I have not yet looked deeble on it:

  • Problem with ASUS laptop and Windows 8

    Hii
I have a problem with my ASUS vivo LAPTOP. Its running on Windows 8 and going pretty well, but sometimes when I use the Google chrome browser and open multiple pages the computer freezes and does nothing which requires me to shut it down by long pressing
    the power button.
The question is what is the problem and does this process of long pressing the power button to shut it down harm my computer Hardware or Software?

Are you sure the issue is happening only when you use Google chrome. Then, it is an issue with the browser. Remove chrome and then re-install and check if that fix the issue.
Regarding force shut down is only meant to be used in emergency situations. If the computer is forced to shutdown everytime, this can lead to formation of bad sectors in hard disk and reduce its life span.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help needed with X-fi ex.music problems with nforce4/ asus a8n-sli del

My x-fi extreme music doesnt work with my mb (asus a8n-sli deluxe) it gets slower and slower and finally it didnt boot win xp home.
After disconnecting the card my system worked perfectly, strangely in the beginning i had no problems (app 2 days) and now it doesn't work
    Has anybody a solution ?

Actually someone did post a work around they got from Logitech support. If you go here http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=5 explains temporarly changing a key in the registry. Ppl report it works so maybe give it a shot?
    mikelebron wrote:
That problem has not been resolved yet. You will have to li've without asus update and use the dos version.. That means you will have to boot from a floppy or CD rom and get to DOS screen to do Bios updates. You can thank the creative drivers for breaking your Asus Update

  • Problems with Asus Xonar D2X and DMIX

    Hello,
i have a problem with my ASUS Xonar D2X and DMIX. It is not possible for me to change the "defaults.pcm.dmix.format" in /usr/share/alsa my audio/video/youtube files are always playing with "format: S32_LE" (defaults.pcm.dmix.rate is working fine). On my other rig with an Onboard Realtek Soundcard i dont have this problem. Iam also using on a extern DAC.
    Please help me.

If it only needs 12V, you could use one of the auxiliary power connectors in the PCI bay. See Figure 1
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWtechPCI/Articles/pciimplementation.html>
You can get the connector from this cable

  • Wireless printing problems with Asus router RT-N56U and HP8500

Neew MacBookPro with Lion. Also have HP 8500a 909a printer hooked up to an Asus router RT-N56U Google search indicates MANY problems with HP printers being used with wireless Mac, even with Airport. Of course we know HP is one of the worse customer support companies on earth,, so I came here in hopes to find a solution. I updated my mac and firmware for router. The Mac doesn't find any printers wirelessly at all. If I hook up with a cable it works fine.. Thanks

I own the RT-N56U (best router on the market hands-down), along with an HP LaserJet 1320, however it's connected via USB to my computer instead of the router. While it's true that HP don't have a terrific support record for Mac drivers in fairness it may be the Asus router causing the problem; if you Google "Asus RT-N56U" and "mac os x print server", you'll find complaints similar to yours from other users. From what I understand this is partly dependent on your printer and whether it supports network printing, and partly on compliance with the Asus router firmware. I Googled what appears to be a possible solution to configuring the Asus print server, however I haven't yet tested this myself:

  • Questions about asus eee 701 and trayer/ openbox

    Hello,
This is a two part problem and I didn't know where to post them.  I have am asus eee laptop, using arch linux with openbox.
First - how can I make trayer stay below all other windows, right now it above them?
Second - I'm using Idegh acpi package and I want to dim the screen when the ac is unplugged and have go back when it is plugged in.  I have  tied xbacklite from the cli and it does kinda work(but messes with the key board controls),when in the acpi script it will only dim once and go back.  Gnome power manager works great but I don't want to use it.  I would think echoing a value to a file would work but what file?
    Thanks for any help
    brncmp

Don't know if it works with trayer, but on my eeepc (huhu) I use peksystray. If I want it to be below other windows, I juste have to launch ObConf, In the Dock tab, Stacking and choose the third option

value was 1, and if I run hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda the clicking noise disappear... So i changed the hdparm -B values in laptop-mode.conf to 254 but when i
reboot the computer still use 1 on battery... So computer doesn't read the values from laptop-mode.conf.
    I then put in
    hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda
in rc.local and if I start the computer now even if it runs on battery it use the value 254, but the problem is that if I now put in the ac adapter and then unplug it
the computer go back to the 1 value...
So if someone now how I can fix this please tell me

I think the problem lies in the power manager of the DE you run. I found that the only reliable way to force hdparm to 254 is to manually run it, because some DE scripts overwrite it.
OR a script that's to be executed when power adaptor is disconnected with a slight delay so that all other modifiers are run before it:
    [root@lightbringer dheart]# cat /usr/local/bin/powersave
    #!/bin/bash
    sleep 5 &&
    hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda
