Problem with DHCP self-assigned IP number

Hi
I have just purchased a 24" iMac running 10.5.3 it is on my home network with a pb12 (10.3.9), a mini (10.4.11) and a lacie nas drive all connected via a router to my broadband modem. The IP set up I'm using is 192.168.x.x on 255.255.255.0. The modem is set up as a DHCP server to give out addresses starting with 192.168.1.3 and so forth. All my original machines work fine with this system, but the iMac when it turns on it self assigns itself 169.254.x.x on 255.255.0.0 and thus won't play with the other computers of the internet. Even if I set the settings to manual and type in 192.168.1.8 on 255.255.255.0 with the router at 193.168.1.1 it still won't connect to the network.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem?
thanks for any help in advance.

I have just noticed that when the imac is restarted it self assigns itself 169.254.x.x on 255.255.0.0 if I then talk out the network cable and click "renew DHCP Lease" a couple of times until the fields are blank, then plug back the cable and click "renew DHCP Lease" I then do get a 192.168.x.x on 255.255.255.0 setting?
This works around the problem but doesn't solve it.
Just did a second restart and this time is correctly assigned a 192.168.x.x IP address.
On the third restart it is back to a 169.254.x.x IP number!!!

    Hi,
Since you already have one copy activated the serial number must be logged in your account details - I would first check that the one logged and the one you are attempting to enter are the same.
You can check your account details by going to www.adobe.com and clicking on Manage Account. You need to sign in with your Adobe Id and then click on View All under Plans & Products. Next click on View your products and after a while it should produce your list.
If there is a problem with the serial number, only Adobe can help you there (we are just users). Please see the response in this thread
First of all, I would have to say that getting in touch with you is a nightmare and I am not at all happy that I can't just email or live chat with someone who can help!  I am not a technical person, I just want to be able to use Photoshop Elements and ge

  • DHCP & self-assigned IP problem-Airport doesn't work

I'm not really a technical type, but I'm pretty quick to pick things up and several weeks of trying to deal with this issue has made me pretty knowledgeable about things related to it specifically.
    Background:
I have a month-old Macbook Pro that runs Snow Leopard and is up to date on all its software stuff. On our home network we have another pretty new Macbook Pro running 10.5.9 and a fairly old Macbook also running 10.5.9.
We have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Our network uses a 40-bit Hex WEP password.
    Problem(s):
When I try to connect to our wireless network, Network preferences tells me that it cannot connect because of a self-assigned IP address. Sure enough, the IP address DHCP comes up with is of the 64.XX.XX.XX variety. Google's revealed that this is a common problem for all recent versions of OSX, back to at least Tiger.
The "subnet mask" it comes up with is 255.255.0.0, which is different from the settings on our other (working) computers, which is 255.255.255.0. I'm not sure what this means, or whether it's significant. Renewing the DHCP lease either comes up with the same 64.XX.XX.XX type or, sometimes, it comes up with no IP settings at all. The most frustrating thing about this is that if I chose "DHCP with manual address" and type in any in our set that I've confirmed isn't in use and hit "apply", as soon as I go back to the panel it has reverted to the 64.XX.XX.XX type.
I've also tried manually entering the router/subnet mask/IP data, as well as the DNS numbers, and that leads to the Network Settings connectivity dot thing being green, but the internet still doesn't work. In those cases, diagnostics claims that everything is fine up to and including the ISP, but that it's unable to connect to the server and internet.
Of note: some people with a similar problem have talked about networks with this problem working intermittently, but mine seems to be consistently broken.
Initially I was able to avoid fixing the problem by using our neighbors' unsecured wireless network, which is sort of awful, I know, but at least it kept me from having to deal with this for a while. Today it started to do the same thing to that network. Both networks continue to work on our Macbook and other Macbook Pro, which is why I don't think that it's a router problem.
I've been able to connect to our other computers through computer-to-computer networks—going through our main shared network (and thus the wireless router) doesn't seem to work—which I think shows that the Airport card/hardware itself is intact (?). I did try connecting to the internet through the "internet sharing" option on our Macbook, but that had the exact same problems.
Another thing that may or may not be relevant, but is equally infuriating:
I've also noticed that my Macbook Pro has more trouble staying connected to a network than our Macbook—even when it was working, it disconnected/timed out extremely often, which is something our Macbook never does, even from the same location. When I try to connect to a network it spends a very long time displaying the "searching for network" animation in the menu bar icon, sometimes after the Network Preferences pane believes that it's connected, and sometimes even after I hit the button to turn Airport off. It's also started refusing to connect to any networks at all, on occasion, which is especially evident in the process of the diagnostics box thingy, because there it actually tells me it's unable to connect rather than just playing the searching animation for ages.
Here are some other things that I've tried:
    setting up a new 'location'
    restarting the computer
    deleting the airport preferences file
    restarting in safe mode
    restarting open firmware
confirming that the firewall allows all incoming thingies
    resetting the router
making sure the keychain password allows all applications to access it
connecting to the internet through a computer-to-computer network from another machine
Because the situation has deteriorated over time, I'd also like to know whether people think that it's two problems (the type of router then later the airport hardware(?)/software(?) itself, perhaps) or just one. Since I've tried basically everything besides switching out our router, I'm kind of inclined to blame it on that, especially because one of the more plausible explanations for this problem that I've heard is a time-out error due to Airport expecting a faster response than it's able to get from older routers; however, the fact that other networks haven't been working means that it's not likely to be just the router. If it's just one problem, which is the simpler explanation, then I guess there's something properly wrong with my computer's software, in which case I guess I'll take it to the Apple Store. :/
I'm in love with my computer otherwise, and I'll admit that I spent a good twenty minutes sobbing out of frustration over this. Any help would be immensely appreciated.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try Changing the Airport Channel
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • 10.5 DHCP issues with Wireless - self assigned IPs?

We're having an issue with Mac OSX 10.5.4 clients, running the latest software updates, not getting an IP address via DHCP on our wireless network.
We're using Cisco APs, with multiple VLANs & SSIDs. They authenticate, but get automatic self-assigned IP addresses. None of our PC clients are experiencing this issue, nor older 10.4.x OSX clients. This looks like a bug, from what I was able to discover:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=384947
Is Apple aware of this, and/or working on a fix? I've seen many issues over the last year or so with Airport clients and wireless connectivity..

This is a "user to user" help forum that is designed as a self-help system, independent of Apple's Technical Support system. No one here can say what Apple knows or is doing about a specific issue (pure speculation is discouraged). We share experience and suggest possible solutions or workarounds.
One way to ensure that your issue is brought to Apple's attention is to use their feedback form for OSX - http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Since the link you posted is from late last year, there have been many updates to Leopard. Some of the updates mention network reliability. Even though Apple has stated that the Pram chips don't control network connections, I have had some luck by Zapping The Pram - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 - Remember to check your System Prefs for things like date/time settings after you Zap.

  • Network connection fails with a "self assigned IP" or "no IP" msg displayed

I am having problems staying connected to the wireless network. I have four Macs - 3 MBPros and 1 iMac. They have all been upgraded to Snow Leopard and have had all recent updates from Apple.
One of the MBP, and just now the iMac, keeps disconnecting from the wireless network with a message that the IP address has been self assigned or that no IP address is found. These computers cannot connect right now but I am using another MBP and it is connected.
I've read through the forums and these are the solutions I have tried:
    1. reset everything - the router, WAP, and the computers - this sometimes works and sometimes does not.
    2. renewed my DHCP lease - at first this worked like a charm but now it makes no difference
All computers are using Airport Extreme
Router is Motorola, new last year
WAP is a Linksys Dual N band new last month (thinking that maybe the Netgear g was failing)
There are two PCs connected to the same WAP and they are (strangely) working fine.
How can I get these computers to just stay connected?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm having the same type of problem and I have to reset my airport exterme because of NO I/P address. I would really like to find out what's up/ Until the Upgrade there wan NEVER a Problem - which is what I expect from MAC!

  • Frustrated with apple self assigned IP (ethernet)

    Hi,
I have ethernet self assigned IP problem. Can anyone help ?

If the computer is connected through a switch to a cable or DSL modem, and the modem is not acting as a router, then only the first device to connect will get an address. You need to change the configuration of the modem so that it shares its Internet connection with all devices on the local network, or else connect a router.
If there are other devices on the same network, and none of them can get an address, then the problem is on the DHCP server (most likely, the router.) If other devices are working normally, or if there are no others, see below.
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Ethernet service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane.
If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password.
From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Ethernet service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.

  • 2008 r2 hyper-v guest with static IP always looses network connectivity after every restart - no problem with DHCP

    Hello,
We are running 2008 R2 domain with one physical DC and other running in VM on Hyper-V host (2008 R2 Standard). The host has 4 NICs and is configured to use one physical NIC for itself (management) and the hyper-v guest is configured to use another dedicated/physical
NIC (through microsoft virtual switch) just for itself.
I noticed that after setting the hyper-v guest with a static IP address all works fine only until guest restart. When the guest boots up the IP address is still configured correctly in IPv4 properties, but there is no network connectivity at all and in fact
the guest shows running APIPA config in ipconfig /all output. That situation continues until I remove the virtual NIC from hyper-v guest, remove the virtual switch from dedicated NIC on host and then reconfigure it (using same settings as they were). very
    annoying.
For time being I switched the virtual DC (problematic hyper-v guest) to a DHCP IP and configured DHCP server (running on physical DC machine, not on hyper-v host) to store a reservation for the hyper-v guest so it always gets the same "static"
    IP configuration.
Is there some kind of a problem/bug with using static IP on (2008 R2) hyper-v guests? is there a hotfix for static IP config in hyper-v guest environment?
both 2008 R2 OSes (host and guest) are up to date with all updates (synced with Microsoft, not WSUS).

OK, I'm not at the office now, but took my time to test out the restart scenarios on problematic virtual guest remotely.
No dice, same as it was, everything works fine after guest has IP configured in DHCP mode (IP reservation of 192.168.1.5 for specific MAC address) and it doesn't work after restart in static IP mode (same address, works before restart of guest).
I also took "arp -a" outputs at each step from host server and that was always saying there is only a single host (192.168.1.5 = VDC = problematic virtual guest) assigned to that IP address and always with same MAC, so that pretty much rules out
ARP/MAC troubles and no issues with switches/routers getting spoofed. Problem is most likely with the virtual guest (WS2008R2) or within the host running same OS.
    Here are outputs:

On Monday I will install more test guests in Hyper-V host (WS2008R2), in variety of flavors like 7x64, 8.1x64, ws2012r2, and see if they show similar problems with static IP configuration when utilizing a dedicated NIC from host server.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with virtual DC running on DHCP IP reservation (which is based on MAC), because the virtual DC pretty much requires a physical PDC (hosting also DHCP in my network) to be present for safety reasons ... however I prefer a static
IP configuration on all servers, hence my question and surprise why it doesn't work.

  • Time Capsule/AirPort Express problem with DHCP server

    Hi everyone,
I seem to be having some weird issue with my home network.  I use a Time Capsule (2011) as my main router and a new AirPort Express as a wireless bridge (router set to "Extend a wireless network", the LAN port is connected to network printer).  Recently, it seems that at least once or twice a week that the DHCP server on my router stops working.  Computers that have static IP addresses have no problem accessing the internet or my local network, but  devices that don't have static IPs  are unable to join the network (over Wi-Fi or ethernet) because they are not being assigned an IP.  This never happened before.  I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the recent firmware update.  Anybody else seem to be having this problem?  I am able to get the DHCP server working again by restarting the Time Capsule or by setting the computer or device that won't connect to a static IP.  Really curious why this seems to be happening…
Thanks for all the help guys

I am having the same problem with the same setup: a 2011 Time Capsule and an Airport Express. I've had my Aiport Express hooked in for about 2 years, so I know it is not the problem. The only difference I have is the DHCP will stop working on the ethernet, but still work over WiFi from the TC. Rebooting the Time Capsule fixes the DHCP issue.
I am running version 7.6.4 in the Time Capsule.

  • GE Simon home alarm system has problem with dhcp

I have a GE Simon alarm system that instead of using a phone line connection to the monitor station uses tcpip. With my old D Link router it was fine but since changing to the WRT160NL router it seems to lose the IP that is served to it. I reset the system and it picked up 192.168.0.111 and was working ok. but within a day it somehow changes to 192.168.0.49. This happens even if i reserve an IP that is in the range of my dhcp settings. Has anyone ever heard of this issue or is anyone else using this system and it is working for them? My alarm vendor asked me first thing when I called them if I was using a linksys router. He said they always have this problem with linksys.

Thanks for your reply. That is exactly how i added it to the list. New symptom. previously i had modified the router address to 192.168.0.1 from the factory 192.168.1.1 I did this because my print server was already set to use that subnet and it was easier. When the GE system failed it went from a router assigned address of 192.168.0.106 and changed to 12.168.0.49. it was not accessable at that time. Now that I have changed the router back to the default .1.1 and set the alarm to always be a specified address, when it failed it was not accessable but on the EasyLink screen. That is where i could see that it was set to .49 before. Now it just says that it is offline. So i rebooted the GE Alarm again and it has come back up for almost a day again. One other thing that I noted is that it seemed to fail when it's lease ran out on the IP address. I set the time to 9999 and everything else in my network has gone to a 7 day time for the client release except for the GE alarm. it always comes up with less than half a day. I haven't caught it exactly when it rolls over so i am not sure about how much time but now that i have started to look it is always some short time. Does anyone know how to change the client release to 'never'? most routers have that feature.

  • Sharing Airport connection with Ethernet - Self Assigned IP

WHy is the ethernet port getting a self assigned IP Address. I want to share the wifi connection with the ethernet to run a cable to my ps3. Need to update trophies so i can wipe it. Wifi doesnt work on PS3 at this time(reason for wiping)

This is a major debacle with Apple. I contacted support and they informed me that they don't support this function.
After many hours of playing around and reading forums this is quite easy (once you know what to do)!
Setup internet sharing (airpor to ethernet)
Go to Network under system preferences
View the Ethernet icon (should be yellow as it self assigns the IP)
Click on TCP/IP and in the Configure IPv4 menu, select "Using DHCP with manual address"
Set the Ethernets IP address to 192.168.2.1
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 (255.255.0.0 is default on OSX 10.6)
On the NIC tring to use the shared connection (PS3/XBOX/Network DVD/PC), you should just be able to "Obtain IP and DNS Automatically". If not, enter the following:
    IP Address(connecting device): 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1
This has nothing to do with the IP of the airport connection or your router, this is the internal Ethernet port settings on the hardware (as far as I can tell).
My internal Airport IP is 10.0.1.4, with 10.0.1.1 for airport extreme, and the self assigned IP was 169.254.151.92 on my shared Ethernet port on the Mac when it wasn't configured properly.
Let me know if this works!!!

  • Problem with placing self-signed certificate in trust store on WLS 10.3

I have had some problems setting up two-way SSL on WLS 10.3.2.
    1. I have not been able to use the java properties listed on
    http://weblogic-wonders.com/weblogic/2010/11/09/enforce-weblogic-to-use-sun-ssl-implementation-rather-than-certicom/
to use the native Java SSL implementation rather than the certicom. Has anyone else had success using these?
    -Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol
    -Dssl.SocketFactory.provider=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.SSLSocketFactoryImpl
    -DUseSunHttpHandler=true
    -Dweblogic.wsee.client.ssl.usejdk=true (for webservice clients)
    2. When I use the ValidateCertChain to validate my keystore with the self-signed certificate I get the message
CA cert not marked with critical BasicConstraint indicating it is a CA
    Certificate chain is invalid
which I read was a problem with certificates generated by keytool, yet I find I was not able to circumvent this
by setting the property weblogic.security.SSL.enforceConstraints to off in the WLS server environment.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    3. The error I get is

    -storepass mypass -keypass mypass
** exported a DER format head certificate of mykey into mykey.cer.der
** keytool -import -trustcacerts -keystore DemoTrust.jks -alias mykey -file mykey.cer.der

    Faisal,
Certicom has an internal restriction that a Date must be notBefore 1970 and notAfter 2105 inclusive. The Java-generated key is valid until Wed Mar 14 11:03:59 EDT 2108. Your knowledge of this area is

  • Problem with Unknown account assignment with limit order...reply soon...

    Hello All,
i am facing problem in <b>confirming the limit order with unknown account</b> <b>assinment</b>.We are using Extended classic scenario with SRM version 5.00 and ECC 6.00. When creating shopping cart with unknown account assignments,  shopping carts is getting created fine but when processing goods receipt the system only prompts for distribution by cost center and we do not have the option to selected processing against other account assignment e.g. internal order or network. the Cost center is coming as gray. What i am expecting that as in known account assignment it asks for a drop down and user can select cost center or order the same should happened with unknown account assignment. we have not implemented any badi for the same.
please help me out. <b><u>Is this a standard behavior of shop with limit order for unknown account assignment where it prompts for cost center only or do i need to implement any badi.</u></b>

    LIMIT SC

Use Screen variants (Transaction - SHD0) to change item overview and search result screens.
BADI - There is one BADI to hide/show some SC item creation links, there is one BADI to control screen details of PO, CTR... but not SC (and not external screens).
So, as usual, identify the template and change the HTML code in SE80.
To implement a more complex logic, like the default check box, change the ABAP code (usually in the PBO), if required.
    Do let me know.

    Short text
    Object Synchronization and Repair
    Purpose
This report enables you to run a consistency check for the integration of HR Master Data and Business Partner data. If not all data exists for the business partner, you can first synchronize data. When synchronization is run for organizational units, the basic data (name, description) and the address data is included; when synchronization is run for central persons, bank information is included in addition to the basic data and address data.
    Prerequisites
To be able to run this report, integration between Organizational Management and SAP Business Partner must be active.
    Features
This section contains information about the functions you can use to select and output data.
    Selection
The following options enable you to restrict the selection of objects:
    Central Person
In addition to selecting central persons created during integration between HR Master Data and Business Partner data, you can also select central persons who have been created locally. However, central persons created locally are not checked for consistency.
    Employee (object type P)
This selection option is only available in HR systems. The corresponding central person is displayed together with the person. Both objects are kept consistent in the Basic Data, Address, and Bank Data columns.
    Positions
    Business Partners (Employee role)
    Users
    Organizational Unit(s)
You can specify specific organizational units for the selection.
    Business Partner (Organizational Unit role)
    Note:
The selection objects Position, Business Partner (Employee role), User, and Business Partner (Organizational Unit role) are only available if an implementation of BAdI HRALX_HRALXSYNC_BADI exists.
    Branch as of Organizational Unit
This option enables you to select all objects in the structure for one or more organizational units. You can also restrict selection according to one of the following object types:
    Central Persons Only
    Employees Only
    Positions Only
    Business Partners Only (Employee role)
    Users Only
    Organizational Units Only
Business Partners Only (Organizational Unit role)
    Include All Object Types
    Changes Since
All organizational units and central persons for which changes have been made since the last time all objects were synchronized are read. When all objects have been synchronized successfully, a new change date is set.
    Note:
If a selection has been made but the relevant input field remains blank, all objects of a particular object type are read from the database. This condition can lead to a long runtime, therefore, SAP recommends you also enter a restriction.
    Output
The organizational units and central persons that have been found are displayed in a list that includes status data.
To facilitate navigation, a hierarchical tree structure is displayed on the left-hand side of the object list. The branches are sorted according to the type of action that is to be executed.
If an implementation of BAdI HRALX_HRALXSYNC_BADI exists, checks from this BAdI are executed in the External Checks branch.
If you double-click on the folder icon in the navigation tree, all objects are displayed in the list.
    Note:
Meaning of status display for data in the Basic Data, Address, and Bank Data columns:
    Icon Message Text Meaning
Green traffic light Business partner does not need to be synchronized with HR object data All business partner data is consistent with HR object data.
Yellow traffic light Business partner does need to be synchronized with HR object data Business partner exists. The business partner data is not consistent with the HR object data.
Red traffic light Object data is new and must first be created for the business partner The business partner does not yet exist or the the business partner data is incomplete.
No traffic light Object type does not include this type of data Check type is not relevant for this object.
    Activities
To integrate business partners or to repair selected objects, you must select the relevant lines in the object list and choose Execute. Any errors that occur are displayed after synchronization.
    Hope this will help.
Please reward suitable points, incase it suits your requirements.

  • Problems connecting Airport - self assigned IP addresses

    Greetings,
I upgraded to a powerbook a few months back, and everything seemed to be working well enough until today. My internet connection (using airport on my powerbook) wasn't working. Usually I just unplug my modem, reconnect, and all works fine.
Today, to my horror, airport does not reconnect as usual and I see the note
AirPort has the self-assigned IP address xxx.xxx.xx.x and will not be able to connect to the Internet.
I've tried using snow leopard cache cleaner, I've tried restarting, I've turned off my iPhone, and disconnected my old mac connected by ethernet.
My iPhone works, using the same wifi, and there are other wifi users nearby.
Not sure what else to mention, any ideas?

    try to do it manual:
decide a ipv4 close to your iphone (if iphone has xxx.xxx.x.7) like x.8
next, net-mask must be 255.255.255.0 (if there is something other it's wrong)
router is seen when you open network in iphone, take this.
could be like: 192.168.1.1, if your ip starts with 192 ...
    all this in network/more options

  • IDL to JAVA - problem with enum, const assignment

    Hi,
I have a problem with compile IDL to JAVA.
I want to compile foo.idl to java by command:
    idlj foo.idl foo.idl:
        enum color {
          blue,
          red,
          green,
          yelow
        const color DEFAULT_COLOR = blue;But I get errors:
foo.idl (line 8):  The type of  is enumeration, but it should be primitive or string.
    const color DEFAULT_COLOR = blue;
foo.idl (line 8):  Identifiers in constant expressions must be constants, not blue.
const color DEFAULT_COLOR = blue;I don't think that IDL file (foo.idl) is wrong, because I compile this file to c and python without errors.
    Can you help me?

Let's take this one step at a time.
    1. You have successfully configured ABAP/Java communication using template installer? See note 917590.
    2. Did you assign the portal user appropriate portal roles?
    3. Can you start a web query from 7.0 query designer?
