Problem with firefox and chrome

Hi guys,
i've a problem with chrome. When i download something with google chrome and at the bottom i press on the file or show all downloads,  i'm redirected to firefox :0
Tried also to uninstall firefox. No way, nothing happen if i press show all downloads or press on the downloaded file.
Any advice?
Thanks guys.

Perhaps Mate isn't as gnome-like as I thought.  I just found this which looks to be a solution.
Or, my solution to all xdg-open related problems: replace it.  I've writen a tiny script like below that I replace /usr/bin/xdg-open with so I can stay in control of what it is doing.
#!/bin/bash
# replacement for /usr/bin/xdg-open
for f in $@; do mime=`file -b --mime-type "$f"`; case "$mime" in
#MIME-TYPE) APPLICATION <END LINE WITH ;;>
audio/*) mplayer "$f" ;;
video/*) mplayer "$f" ;;
*/pdf) mupdf "$f" ;;
esac; done > /dev/null 2>&1 &
I would not recommend this script if you are not comfortable editting scripts as it does need customizing.  However, the alternate solution is to edit a much longer and much more confusing script.
Edit: cleaned up my ugly script, as it is a work in progress.

  • I have a basic applet method timing problem with Firefox (and Chrome), not IE nor Opera. Works if JavaScript issues windows.alert() prior, fails otherwise.

I have an applet method, which is invoked from a JavaScript function, that is triggered by the window.onload event. The problem seems to center in the loading of the applet and its methods.
If I step through the 3 applet acceptance prompts (I chose to use a down-level Java), the applet method is never invoked, nor is an exception raised. How this happens is beyond my understanding.
As additional information, the Init(), start(), and "desired" Java methods all use the synchronized keyword. This is an attempt to minimize the exposure to a multi-thread environment.
If I issue a message from JavaScript (via window.alert()) PRIOR to invoking the method, I can get the desired results in special circumstances:
    1) When the alert is presented, Firefox also prompts, SIMULTANEOUSLY, to block/continue the applet (the first of the 3 applet acceptance prompts). I can accept that these are separate threads.
2a) If I walk through the 3 applet acceptance prompts FIRST, and then hit the OK button on the alert message SECOND, I get the desired results, my applet method executes, and all is well (other than the fact that I would prefer not to have the alert in place at all).
2b) If I hit the OK button on the alert message FIRST, and then walk through the 3 applet acceptance prompts SECOND, I get the same results as when the page loads WITHOUT the alert, which is the applet method is never invoked, nor is an exception raised. Weird, huh?
The above problem only occurs when the browser and the applet's URL are loaded for the first time.
Subsequent invocations (after the page & applet has been loaded initially) do not have the failing symptoms.
It is my understanding that IE and Firefox (and Chrome and Opera, for that matter) each use the same implementation of JavaScript provided by Microsoft. Please correct me if this information is inaccurate.
The failing page and it's applet are proprietary; I cannot provide the Internet URL, nor the Java or JavaScript source, to aid in your analysis.

I can speak to the source code, but have no access to it.
The current process/thread that invokes an applet method must check to see that the applet is not currently being loaded by another process/thread. If it is being loaded, the current process/thread should block until the load is complete, THEN attempt to invoke the applet method.
Please forward my concern to a knowledgable developer. The nature of the problem, once identified, can be addressed in a very straightforward manner.

  • Site can't be viewed with IE, works with Firefox and Chrome

I have a family site that works fine with Firefox and Chrome, but with when we created a new page and uploaded it, it can't be viewed with IE.
http://www.thetravelintexans.com/states.htm was modified to add the very last picture in the last row, it was uploaded and works fine.
If you click on the last picture Andrew at Disney, it takes you to this page http://www.thetravelintexans.com/AndrewsDisney.htm .  This page acts like it is loading in IE, but quickly says Done at the bottom of the screen, but it is blank.  The source code can be viewed, but no detail of page at all.  Again, it works fine with Firefox and Chrome.
    I am using Dreamweaver CS4.
    Thanks for any hints.

IE does get a bit anxious when it does not have DOCTYPE to work to. It tends to fall back into a quirks mode and behave irrationally. Makes me think of myself when I do not have goalposts to aim for.
Solution, merely give your pages a valid DOCTYPE and all is well. For more info see here http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thetravelintexans.com%2FAndre wDisney.htm

  • Whatsnew page for 3.6.17 has formatting problems with Firefox and I.E.

I just updated from 3.6.16 to 3.6.17n and the whatsnew page, displayed after Firefox restarted, has formatting problems in the lower right hand corner.
I checked it with I.E. 8 and it also shows the formatting problem.
Why wasn't this caught before the page was put into "production"?
    The URL is http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.17/whatsnew/
There is a line with the text "Release Notes » Firefox Features » Firefox Help »" that is being displayed on top of other material.
I wonder what a new Firefox user or an inexperienced user would think of this? They might think that they did something wrong or, worse, they might consider Firefox had problems and they won't use it.
    This reflects badly on Firefox.
One more thing, could someone make this textarea taller and wider. It is so small as to cause problems typing and proofing the material.
    The URL is https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/new?product=desktop&category=d6&search=whatsnew+page+for+3.6.17+has+formatting+problems+with+Firefox+and+I.E.&showform=1
How about upping the cols and rows values? They are currently rows="10" cols="40"

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • Full Screen with Firefox and Chrome

Whenever I watch a video in sull screen with either Firefox or Chrome, there will be a blank black space on the right of the screen and my mouse cursor will be off. I don't have a problem with Explorer and I ddn't have any problems with Flash Player 9. The problem with Flash Player 9 is there are a bunch of videos online that require Flash Player 10.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks very much,

Try disabling Hardware Acceleration (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/891337), or update the device drivers of your graphics adapter.

  • Cookie(?) problem on Firefox AND Chrome in xfce4

So, this is a weird one:
Firefox and chrome refuse to let me log-in to the majority of forums.  I enter my login details, get the 'please wait, redirecting...' then it takes me back to the login screen.  This is across multiple, unconnected forums.  opera doesn't seem to have this problem, although I do get 'invalid session, please resubmit form' occasionally when making posts using opera.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to solve this problem.
Obviously I've tried clearing my cache multiple times in both browsers, clearing down all my cookies and saved passwords / sessions etc  but the problem refuses to go away.  Help!

Which Firefox/Chrome do you use ? Which site is that you mentioned ? Is there any output if you start these from console? Could you compare the output in terminal when you run opera and firefox e.g.?

  • Problem with firefox and gtk applications in KDE!

Hi there, i have my arch installed and it's great, i use kdemod that is quite perfect but i have a problem: all the gtk applications like firefox, eclipse, emesene and so on are terrible looking expecially the fonts. Here what I've done:
    1) installed kdemod-gtk-qt-engine and configured to use qt theme and it's better
    2) enabled fonts with antialiasing and hinting
    3) installed fonts for lcd like cairo-lcd
    4) installed microsoft fonts
But stille it's ugly and it's impossible to use the apps, here's a screenshot:
The point is that i can't use konqueror because i need some plugins like googlebrowsersync that doesn't exist for konqueror. And in other distros like n00buntu it works.
    Thanks for your help!

    pelle.k wrote:
I can relate to what borzo is saying, because i have exactly the same problem.
See, i have installed libxft-lcd and enabled antialiasing and sub-pixel hinting in kde font properties. All kde fonts look great. Now, i usually the exactly the same in gnome "Appearance" font settings (when i use gnome).
The thing is when you have KDE installed you can't set antialiasing and sub-pixel hinting for *GTK* apps, even if you can set a theme and font size with gtk-chtheme/.gtkrc
This has nothing to do with how firefox renders fonts, really, but how GTK fonts a drawn in KDE since gnome-settings-manager isn't running, and thus GTK apps get crappy fonts (including firefox html rendering).
So, how can i enable antialiasing and sub-pixel rendering specifically for GTK apps in KDE without running gnome-settings-manager?
I know this is an old thread, but I'm still having exactly the same problem. I've been fiddling with fonts for a whole week now. Fonts in KDE apps look great, but crappy in GTK-apps like Thunderbird and Firefox. Like Pelle asked: how can I set aintialiasing and sub-pixel redndering for GTK apps? When running Gnome the fonts in GTK-apps look so much better. I wanna use my shiny new KDE 4 desktop, though.

  • Problem with firefox and menus

I have an intermittent problem in Firefox with menus.  I click on a menu or a drop down button and, as soon as I move my mouse over the menu, it disappears.  The only way to select something on the menu is to leave my mouse where it is and use the arrow keys and enter to select an item.
Not sure if it's relevant, but I'm using fluxbox as my window manager.

There has been a bugreport about this, I can't find it right now, but this seems to be a bigger issue. I had this behavior with i3. The behavior was a bit different than you described, but it also affected the menus, so it's related. And yes, this made me very angry as well

  • Ebay - cannot copy and paste or type in 'decribe your item' box. Ebay support said it may be a problem with firefox and java and to contact you.

I had the same problem with IE9. Ebay said try Mozilla as browser so I downloaded that but same problem.
the 'Sell your item' page allows me to type in all relevant info except for the box where you have to provide a description. Using copy and paste, it can take several hours to paste into the box! Now with Mozilla the same is happening and I haven't yet been able to paste - or even type - anything after several hours wauting for the spinning thing to stop.

  • 10.4.10 image problem with Firefox and Photoshop on Intel and OD AFP server

We are working on a new client image (perfect client image to deploy with Netboot) and our Intel machines, new and old, are throwing errors in CS2 Photoshop and refusing to launch Firefox when we log in to home folders from the OSXserver, local accounts run OK. The Intel Mac Pros we got last year ran Photoshop fine using last years image. Power Macs are running OK logged in on the server and local. The biggest variable is we are now running 10.4.10, the last image was 10.4.9. Anyone seen this, any thoughts, I have tried everything I can think of.
    Thanks!

I haven't had any problems with 10.4 and solaris 10. At some point Apple upgraded to some version of OpenSSH that required the addition of the -Y switch to make things work well.

  • Problems with Firefox and 10.6.5 update

I just updated my iMac to 10.6.5. Now many of my favorite websites open for a couple of seconds but then quit unexpectedly. I ran the disk utility and there were no errors and then repaired permissions but the problem continues. Curiously, there is no problem using Safari so it appears to be a problem with 10.6.5 and Firefox only.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks Sig and ScuseMe.
I thought I was running the most recent version of Firefox since I had just checked the Firefox updater today and it said no new updates were available. So when I read your posts and saw you two were using version 3.6.12, I checked which version I actually had in my Applications folder and it showed 3.5!!
So I downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.12 and the problem is solved.
Thanks very much guys...Apple folks are the best!

  • Zzxc: I am having problems with Firefox and a Google gadget score board on my Google home page. Every time I go to my Google homepage, a file called "scores.htm" downloads into my Firefox download. I can have at least 50 of those files downloaded over t

You have chosen to open “scores.htm”
What should Firefox do with this file?
-Open with: Firefox (default), or other
    -Save file?
Do this automatically for the files like this one.
I chose cancel and when I rebooted the Google page the same window came up.
I don’t want to open with or it will open with something every time I come back to Google.
The best option until this is resolved is to “Save File” and that continues to down load into the “Download Firefox” folder.

When I go to my Google page with the sport scores gadget on, Firefox download, in the downloads window a file "scores.htm" everytime. Consequently I have 10's if not 100's over time of scores(1), (2)(3).htm respectively. How do I stop it?

  • I can't get into my yahoo bookmarks. I have spent time with AT&T and the conclusion they came to is that it may be a problem with Firefox and yahoo. Help please

I am using a HP Laptop NOT mobile device. Every time I try to go into my YAHOO bookmarks it asks me to sign in which I do to no avail. AT&T came to the conclusion it may be that Firefox and Yahoo are not working together. I just downloaded both the latest versions of Firefox and the yahoo toolbar again to no avail. Is there something with Firefox that is preventing me from getting into my yahoo bookmarks??

It's really up to you how often you want to clear history. If you have a large hard drive, Firefox may save history for a year or more...
