Problem with iTunes in Windows XP

I am having a problem loading iTunes in Windows XP service pack 2. Every time I click on it, it seems to load for a little while, and then a window pops up saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close". When I clicked on the details tab, it showed me a bunch of stuff I couldn't understand. Here's what it said:
AppName: itunes.exe
AppVer:7.6.2.9
ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 00000000
How do I get iTunes to work right?

The first question, Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter
These are know to cause troubel with Quicktime and must be uninstalled before proceding.
It is also a good idea to go to your Control Panel and try to launch QUicktime preferences - you need to be in classic view to see it.
Post any error message in full. This error message can give a clue to the presence of problem codecs if you are not sure.
Next do a removal of Quicktime with installer cleanup, followed by an install of the latest version.
I will give a method for complete removal, cleanup and reinstall of iTunes, Quicktime and related components, but in your case it may be possible to just do the QUicktime part. Don't forget to delete the recommended files from your system32 folder.
== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

  • Having problems with iTunes on Windows 7 64bit

I'm having problems with my iTunes with windows 7. I have done everything you possibly can from Apple support section and nothing seems to work.
Well my problem is that iTunes cannot connect to my iPad or iPhone. Both of these devices work fine with my fathers computers but somehow they don't work on my computer.
When I connect my iPad to my computer, unknown error will pop from iTunes. And it thinks my iPad is iPhone, wierd (or does iPad have iPhone operating system or something?). It does samething with my iPhone too, unknown error.
If anyone has had same problems that I do and somehow solved the problem, would you please assist me?

Well now it seems that I have another problem too. Now my iTunes can't find my iPad at all, no error messages or anything.
Now the error message was one of these 4: (0xE8000065)(0xE800000a)(0xE800006b)(0xE8000001)
I can't remember which it was because I can't get any error messages anymore.
By the way, here is a list of what I have done already to make things work.
-uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes 9.1 many, many times in different folders too.
    -updated all my drivers
-checked that windows can find my iPad and it does.
-Shut down my F-Secure firewall ect. and trying to connect iPad then.
-I have done everything what you possibly can from this site http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3221
-my USB ports work fine with every other devices like my 500gb harddrive, mouse, keyboard ect. and I have tried to disconnect every other USB devices except iPad and still not working.
I'll try deleting my USB drivers now, reinstall them and even if after doing all that and iPad still not connecting to iTunes.. well then it's our of my league, I don't know anything more to do.
Oh, and by the way. I called to Apple support and they only said that there shouldn't be any problems with Windows 7 and iTunes and they couldn't help me very much.. And my iPad works fine with other computers that are in my house.

  • Problems with iTunes and Windows Vista

I just got a new dell computer that came with Windows Vista. I'm new to Vista, and just downloaded iTunes. I was able to add my music and it will play, but I can't edit track information. I downloaded iTunes from the administrator account, so I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. Please help!!

For windows vista, like someone suggested, it may change your permission for editing a file and appear grey screen. As such, the following step might solve this problem.
Go to "Computer", go to your portable hard drive, right click and go to "Properties". Select "Security" Under the "group and user names" choose your user name. To change the permission, choose "Edit" Under permission column, choose "Full Control". After this you may able to edit song information in your itunes.

That's part of your Windows operating system, relating to the MCI driver for cdaudio devices.
Perhaps try running an sfc /scannow as per:

Does sfc repair any files? If so, does your iTunes start launching properly again afterwards?

  • Problems with Itunes and Windows 7 x64

When I upgraded to Windows 7, Itunes no longer recognized my computer as one of the authorized ones from someone else's Itunes. The worst part is when I authorized my computer for the other person's Itunes last time, I was the 5th person to do so. Now I'm stuck because I can't just reauthorize my computer because it says it reached its max number, even though I'm not authorizing a new computer. Can someone give me an idea of what to do?

Is that ASUS rather than ISUS?
If so, I think I've found info on the motherboard ... if so it doesn't have the P55 or P55M chipsets that can be cranky on Windows 7 systems with iPod/iPda/iPhone connections.
Still, we'd better make sure your BIOS and chipset drivers for the board are up to date. Head to the following page at ASUSTek and use the Navigation Wizard to autodetect your motherboard version. Check to see if there are any BIOS updates, chipset driver updates or other driver updates available for it (say, integrated audio, display adaptors, raid controllers, etc):

If you're behind on anything, and you update, does that improve your syncing performance?

When I connect to itunes it makes me restore the ipod settings and then when this is complete, itunes will only load a few songs at a time and if I try to load more that ten song Itunes just stops responding. I took the shuffle into an Apple store today and they tell me that it OK so must be my system. Can anyone help please.

  • HELP!!! problems with itunes and windows media

I just got an ipod nano 3rd gen and am trying to download music onto it. I know that you have to download itunes, but i have no idea how. The instruction manual said that a set up window should pop up the first time i plug my ipod into the computer, which did not happen. also, i have lots of music on windows media that i got off CDs and from other sites. is there any way to transfer this music onto my ipod? the computer itself recognizes the ipod but windows media does not.

There was a mix of different WMA bit rates all ripped from CDs using WinAmp. I ripped each song at two different qualities and used jazz, rock, rap, and symphonic. After the conversion the songs were loaded onto the students' iPods having no knowledge which version was which. Each student got two versions of each of the files. Some got a converted and a AAC ripped from the CD. Some got two converted songs of different qualities. They were required to play the songs using their earbuds and at home on their computer. When the student had both a ripped version and a converted version s/he identified the ripped version as the better one almost 70% of the time. When they had two converted versions they identified the higher quality as the better one at about the same rate.
Interestingly, but not unexpected, using just Apple's stock earbuds we were much less successful at identifying the converted tracks. And, I might add, those of us who were best at identifying the unconverted files were also those who were not satisfied with Apple's buds.

  • Why was my topic deleted? This is a problem with itunes for windows!

I'm asking why iTunes does not work on Windows ME. Don't delete my question, that's just plain rude. =/
    Answer me.

Moving along: Windows ME may be obsolete but there
are still large numbers of people using it. This is a
total guess but more than 10,000 would be about
    accurate.
Maybe some people can afford an iPod but can't afford
a computer which will handle the upgrade from ME to XP.
You might want to try Winamp; they just added iPod support.
    http://winamp.com/about/article.php?aid=10661
I don't know how WELL it works with WinME, but the website does say it will. Here are the latest Winamp minimum system requirements:
    * 500MHz Pentium III or comparable
    * 64MB RAM
    * 15MB Hard Disk Space
    * 16bit Sound Card
    * Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003
    * 1x speed or greater CD Burner (Required for Burning)
    * 2x speed or greater CDROM (Required for Ripping)
That's a pretty low-end system configuration, so maybe it will work for you.
Regarding iTunes WinME support, I'm not surprised Apple doesn't want to open that bag of snakes. WinME has always been the red-headed stepchild of the Win9x series. XP is substantially different under the hood than Win9x; Apple would have quite a project to back-port their code to the 9x OS, and it's really not worth it for them given the small and dwindling installed base.
Of course, they also want you to buy a Mac if your current Windows machine won't do what you want, which may have something to do with it too.

  • Problems with iTunes in Windows vista

    Music Stops in itunes

I am experiencing the exact thing with the iPhone 3G, Win XP and Outlook 2003. Spent 6 hours uninstalling and reinstalling everything and 2 hours at the Apple store. It's amazing that none of the Apple "Geniuses" had heard of this ever. They said "sorry" and asked if I wanted to return it. They blamed Microsoft, though the OutlookSyncClient dll I am getting an error from is actually Apple's. This is ridiculous.
Everything synchs fine except for calendar.
They said I should look for a corrupt calendar entry. I went to the length of backing up my calendar, deleting all of my entries and synching some of them. That worked ONE WAY and only in disconnected mode in Outlook. I cannot synch changes back from the iPhone to Outlook. I added back a few calendar entries from my backup and it errored out again with "outlooksyncclient has experienced an issue and needs to close"
Any ideas are appreciated or I am returning this TOY to Apple. This is not a business phone if it can't synch calendars flawlessly.

  • I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab.  Everything else seems to work okay in itunes.  I have uninstalled it and reloaded it 4 or 5 times, but still freezes up.

I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab which shows the apps that are loaded on my phone.  Everything else in the itunes software seems to be working okay.  The problem is in the part where you sync the newly purchased apps.  The apps will all be blank that are downloaded and that part of the software crashes itunes or freezes up.  I can get out of itunes okay after the freeze up, but it just stops me from syncing anything that I have newly added.  If anyone has had this problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know how I can fix it.  I have uninstalled and reloaded itunes 4 or 5 times, but the problem is still there.  I might add that I have been using itunes and purchasing apps for 2 to 3 years without any problems.  HELP.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.
