Problem with my isight

Hi, i recently purchased a new macbook and have not had any problems with it whatsoever, except for the isight camera. at first it was working fine then about three days later the picture turned blurry, and the quality of the photos was horrible. What can be done to fix this if anything? Has anybody else had this problem?

Try unplugging your macbook, removing the battery, let it sit for 15 min, reassemble and try again.

If it remains faulty, I would contact Applecare. Sounds as if you may have a faulty camera.

  • Do I have a problem with my iSight... see info in post

I got this from system profiler in OS X 10.4.5 notice iSight unit repeats 4 times each with different information. Could this be the problem with my isight displaying still images when used with imovie HD 6 then breaking into 5 horizontal lines on a still image then I would have to force quite because imovie would freeze.

     Hello, Leon.
I have successfully tested with several PPC Mac minis, and NONE had any problem supplying sufficient power to iSight for good video.
You mention other Firewire devices. I previously recommended that you check for Possible hardware or software conflicts. One of the suggestions there is that you test your iSight with NO OTHER Firewire devices connected.
If you tested with iSight alone, and if your iSight ALONE draws more power than your Mac mini can provide, regardless of WHICH app you are using to drive iSight, your iSight may be defective.
Alternatively, your Mac mini may not be delivering as much power to its Firewire port as it should be. In either case, I suggest that you have your iSight and your mini checked by an Apple Service Technician.
I will be eager to see whether the powered hub lets you use your iSight along with all other Firewire devices that you want connected while using your iSight.

  • Anyone having problems with their iSight Camera and making calls from the desktop?

I upgraded our early 2008 MacPro with Yosemite with no problems the day it was released.  I made a phone call through the desktop using my iPhone and it worked perfectly.  For some reason, this feature does not always work.  One minute the iSight camera works fine, the next minute FaceTime does not recognize it is on.
My iPhone was successfully paired with the desktop, but when I went to connect, I got a message, Connection Unsuccessful - our MacPro is not supported.  Does the iPhone have to be paired with the desktop in order to make/receive calls?  It was not paired when I successfully tested a couple of calls yesterday, but today it is not working.

  • Audio problems with external iSight

    Hi guys,
I have been racking my brain with a problem that I have (I think) narrowed down to my external iSight.
It initially showed up in Skype, but have confirmed in iChat also.
The problem is no audio. I do have video in both apps.
    I have:
    1. deleted the com.apple.audio.devicesettings.plist
    2. reinstalled OS via Combo update
    3. unpluged firwire multiple times - plus restart
    4. repaired permissions - multiple times
    5. Checked that iSight is recognized in System profiler>FireWire
    6. deleted Skype and reinstalled an earlier version (2.7.0.330)
    7. other things that are a blur now!!!
One key may be that every time I restart, my sound preferences>input is alway reset to lowest (off) position - even though I reset each time - even after deleting the .plist file above.
This outfit has been set upon this machine for years and never a problem until now.
    Whew...
    Any ideas?

    John Dotson wrote:
    Jim,
    Tried both. Neither worked.
Tomorrow I will try an even older audio pref file.
I do not have another firewire device to trade out to check the connection, but since I have video, and confirmation in System Profiler, I am supposing it is good.
That sound input is still "resticking" at 0 at every restart.
Any other suggestions gentlemen? or Ladies...
    Thanks for the thought process.

    You're welcome, John.
    Here are three more:
    (1) Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the 10.5.8 COMBO update:
      http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
Repair permissions IMMEDIATELY again after the restart that finishes the installation.
Then test again to see if it helps the problem.
    (2) If properly applying the Combo Update does not resolve your problem, you may have problems within the basic system software.
Reinstall OS X 10.5 (Leopard). If you need help, see the instructions in the user manual that came with your Mac if it originally shipped with Leopard. If you Mac came with an earlier version of Mac OS X, follow the instructions that came with your Leopard Upgrade DVD.
After reinstalling 10.5.x, you can update to the latest version (10.5.8) Leopard in one update step by using the process in (1) above. Then check again for proper function of your system settings.
    (3) If none of the suggestions you get resolve your problem and you do not want to continue reconfiguring your settings each time you restart, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Problems with built-in isight: colours and fuzziness

I have just bought a new MacBook, however I seem to have quite a problem with my iSight. When I use it (for example, through Photo Booth) I get an image that is very reddish (it seems like the only colours I get are in the range black-orange-red, and no, I'm not using any special effects like Sepia :)) and that is very fuzzy, or even better, foggy.
Any fix for this? I have had an iMac with an iSight that only showed black and the solution seemed to be to reset the PMU. However, I cannot find information on how to reset the PMU on my new MacBook.

  • Isight problem with windows

    hi
i have a serious problem with my isight...
i installed win xp using the boot camp, after 1 month the isight is stopped working and i found under the device manager "DFU Loader"
i did the SMC and PRAM,it works maybe for 2 or 3 days then the same problem happen...when i login to the mac os and start the photobooth i see the msg "there is no camera connected"
i went to the support center and they say that the isight is not supported in windows...
so i want to know if it is a hardware or software problem..?

"i also tried to reinstall the drivers over and over again using the bootcamp.."
Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer afterwards? If not, do the following:
Boot up from your install DVD and run *"Repair Disk"* from the Utility menu. When done, go back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.
"did anyone face this problem before??"
    Don't use Boot Camp.
If you have tried all the solutions in the link that EZ Jim provided for you, I suggest that you cross-post over in the Boot Camp forums. It's where the BC users all hang out. Perhaps they can help you.
"i bought just 2 monthes ago"
Then I strongly suggest that you take advantage of Apple's 90 days of FREE phone tech support before it runs out. If you have purchased Apple Care, use it. Let them deal w/your problems. It's what you are paying them for.

  • Problems with iSight on Intel iMac

I've got a very big problem with my iSight, since 2 days. The green light turn on right at booting, just after I push the Power button. Any software (Photo Booth, QuickTime Pro, iMovie) recognize my camera. The iSight isn't mentioned in Apple System Profiler, I only have "High speed USB bus".
The iSight don't turn off while sleep.
I tried to reset PRAM and SMC twice, I even tried to move Apple_iSight.kext out of Extensions folder but my problem's not solved.
    Thanks for any help

i have bought new Macbook Pro. I try install Windows XP and bootcamp to fit drivers to all hardwares. At the beginning, isight worked probably when i click "My Computer" then click the webacam icon. After a long time, I did it again and I saw:
"Video Preview Failure.Creation of the video preview failed. Please check the device connection and make sure that the device is not being used by another application or user."
although i haven't known which program was using it.I did many ways to solve this problem but i couldn't. After that, I installed a fresh window XP again and isight continued working probaly. At this time, I did a check to find out which program was using my isight. I did like that one time installing a program and check isight working one time. And i saw that after installing Yahoo Messenger, my isight meet the problem like above.
Can anybody give me a comment? Thank you

I don't use Windows, but if you get no better help here, I suggest you boot your Mac into OS X and use the suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight to be certain that your iSight works correctly in OS X.
If you still have trouble with your iSight in Windows although your iSight works in Mac OS X, boot back into Windows XP. Then use Windows XP > Help on your Mac or click here for the Windows Help Web Page to check whether your problem might be related to installing, configuring, or using Windows.
If the above does not help you solve your problem, or if you already know that the problem only occurs when you are using Yahoo! Messenger, check Yahoo! Messenger > Help on your Mac or click here for the Yahoo! Messenger Help Web Page. Yahoo! Help should be best the best information source on how to Troubleshoot their application on your system.
If the problem only occurs with one of your other Windows applications, and if you cannot find appropriate help for the problem in the Help pages for that application, when you post back, tell us the name and version number of the application that gives you trouble. Also tell us any new things you learn while trying the suggestions above.
Someone may be able to offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • ISight problem with photobooth, skype, etc

    Hi everyone,
I've been having a problem with iSight recently. Whenever I try to use it for Skype or PhotoBooth, the green light turns on but all I see is a black screen. It works with flash based websites on Chrome though. I have the Gmail video plugin installed - could that be the problem? How can I make this work?
    Thanks!

It sounds to me as though you have introduced conflicts with your third-party software (Chrome, Gmail video, etc.)
Check every one of their web sites to be sure you have the latest versions that are compatible with your Mac OS X (10.6.7). Also, check that there are no "known issues" for your third-party items.
Also verify that you are using the most current compatible Flash Player:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
If you are still having problems after you have verified all of the above, consider all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your problem remains in every user account you test after following the relevant Apple Troubleshooting suggestions, you might want to backup your Mac and then carefully follow the developers' instructions to uninstall +(do not merely drag to trash unless specifically directed to do so)+ your third party browsers and video apps to see if the problem goes away.

  • Screen Problems with iMac G5 20" (iSight)

    Hello!
I had the same problem with my iMac G5 20" (iSight) as described by Bob North Apr. 18, 2006 at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25:
"""" I repair Apple products, and recently I've seen strange and erratic display problems with the G5 flat-panel (iSight) 17" and 20"...and I am very curious about the origin. The picture will display what I will call "plaid pixles". Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display. The desktop, or whatever, can still be distinguished in the background, but it is overwashed by the plaid patterns -- which do change slightly, and also cover the full space of the screen. I've seen different scenarios, 3 in 2 weeks, where the symptom is exhibited with no particular failure pattern -- both before and after repair. I've replaced the main logic on one occasion, with no fix...but the 2nd try replaced both display panel and inverter. The display issue was fixed, but the system exhibited lockups only when it reached the destop. Another repair the same issue was seen after replacing the 20" main logic, where the symptom was not present previous. Personal opinion of the late 2005 IMAC flat-panels, in the hardware sense, is the likelihood of component manufacture issues, possibly the main logic boards or the panel displays themselves. Repair of this model, as opposed to the earlier, non-iSight flat-panel 17 and 20" models are extremely difficult -- access to main componenets is blocked by the display panel, which must be removed for each troubleshooting attempt. The internal hardware design is not oriented for repair ease...they are by far the most difficult to work on.
Any input regarding the display issues? Thanks.""""
I can't use the mouse or anything else, and after a while the fans start to go on max. This is the second time I encounter this problem within 30 days. What I have noticed is that the day before, the brightness of the screen started to "blink" slightly -- like if the screen tried to adjust itself.
But I haven't experienced what Bob North describes as the: "Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display".
I just restart with the power button and everything is working OK. I made an Extended Hardware test without any problems detected.
I have been looking for this issue with iMac G5 20" (iSight) and only found it at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25 :

My nearly 3 year old Titanium PowerBook G4 just did this one day, out of the blue. The problem went away after a few minutes, but I had already taken photos. Thanks to those photos, Apple gave the powerbook a new logic board.
(This PowerBook has had its logic board replaced twice, a new optical drive, and a cracked case edge replaced. AppleCare has more than paid for itself. Despite the occasional problems, I remain very happy with this machine. I'm sure I'd be much less happy if I had not bought AppleCare!)

  • Having Problems with built in iSight

    Hi,
I am having problems with the computer finding my built in iSight camera, I just updated to Mountain Lion and now no applications recognise it.
I have tried turning it off and on again, and switching to different users, but none can identify a connected camera.
    Help?

    Hi englishguru,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may find the steps in this article helpful for troubleshooting the camera on your MacBook:
    How to Troubleshoot iSight
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2090
Since you've determined that the behavior isn't user specific, try these steps:
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Problems with built-in iSight and iChat! Nothing works!!

    Hello,
i have a problem with my iChat, iChat said that no camera is connected, but the built-in iSight works with Photobooth!
I read many Threads here but no solution works,
there is also an entry in the system profiler USB --> built-in iSight
I closed all other Aplications like Photobooth, iMovie and so on,
than i checked the activity monitor.
I changed the settings in iChat (bandwith) and Quicktime (bandwith)
    I did a PRAM reset...nothing changed!
    I did a SMC reset...also nothing changed!
The built-in iSight doesnt works with Skype, too!
    Please help me!

Hey, I hope people aren't getting annoyed by my compulsive posting, but I think this solution needs to be spread, it doesn't get enough publicity:
the issue is that with 10.5.1, a certain quicktime component that acts as a USB controller for the iSight camera is given an expiry time (i.e., the file is given a feature similar to "trial periods"). This file is then deleted, and iSight ceases to function. All that need be done is to replace the component, by downloading it here:
    http://techslaves.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=q8frk8vf81l0f8echu6mj0plk0&action=tpmo d;dl=item16
(disregard the version marking, it works for 10.5.2 in the very least)
Copy it to ~/System/Library/Quicktime, then reboot and it should work.

  • DIFFERENT PROBLEM WITH ISIGHT!!!

This might sound creepy but my iSight likes to turn on at random. It'll turn on when I am no where near the computer. I NEVER run photo booth or iChat so I cannot understand why it would turn on in the first place plus turn on when I am not using the computer. Any help?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, thirdambition
You do not say which Mac you have. My external iSight does not do that in Leopard on my PPC Mac, but I would not worry about it if you have no problem using your iSight.
If you are still concerned, you can check for any running applications, Login Items, or widgets that can use your iSight. (It is easy to forget widgets like Mirror in your Dashboard.)
Although I do not think this is necessary, if you do, I can suggest a workaround that may allay your remaining worries. As explained in Apple's iSight "Your camera is in use by another application" message, iSight can be used by one application at a time, so if (1) your problem persists, and (2) if you cannot find any cause, and (3) you are still concerned; you could launch an application that keeps your iSight occupied. If you do not want to see the app and iSight's view on your desktop, you could minimize it in your Dock, "Hide" the application, or merely cover its window with another window.
If you do have any difficulty using iSight, try the suggestions here:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240
It is possible that your Mac might have a hardware problem that causes this sort of intermittent action. If your problem persists on a Mac that is covered by Apple Care, you might want to contact your Apple Service Provider to get the trouble corrected while still within warranty.

  • Airport Express problem with iMac G5 iSight - help needed!

I bought an Airport Express (AX) last week, upgraded my OS to Leopard and installed Airport Utility fine. I could join my existing wireless network and everything worked fine for streaming itunes through my stereo. But this week Airport Utility has stopped being able to find the AX and I can't work out why - really need some help! Its in the same place as last week, close to the computer, and I tried another location right next to the Imac but didn't work. When I restore factory settings Airport Utility does recognise the device, and allows me to update settings for wirelessly connecting to my existing wireless network, so the light on the AX is solid green. But then AU again says it cannot find any AX wireless device. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong???

Hi I'm still battling with this - have connected the AX to my Imac via ethernet and it shows up fine in Airport Utility. Status light is green and it says its set up to connect to my existing wireless network using wireless connection. Security in Network Preferences is the same for both: WPA2 Personal.
So I don't think there's a problem with the AX, and my current wireless network (BT Home Hub) is working fine.
And when I restore factory settings Airport Utility can see the AX before updating settings so the wireless side of AX must work too.
I'm figuring it must be something about the settings that mean AU can't see it anymore. But I can't work out what, since security is the same.
    Any ideas would be great!

the link above is where i downloaded the effects but im not sure how to uninstall them and it doesnt say on the website. When go find it in Finder it says More Ichat Effects Uninstaller and i pressed it but it brings up like Terminal ( i think its some application) and i dont know where to go from there and most of the other effects work but the dark ones dont. Also i tried turning flash off and it doesnt help.
    http://i45.tinypic.com/28twfns.jpg
    According to the developer's website:
      http://ismileys.free.fr/moreichateffects/support/
".... you can launch iChat and Photobooth in 32 bits only..."
If that does not help you, try uninstalling MoreIchatEffects. I do not use MoreIchatEffects, but, again, according to the developer's website,
      http://ismileys.free.fr/moreichateffects/
"If you want to remove all effects, run the installer or remove files in /Library/Compositions"
    (1) In addition to the extra effects, it appears that the MoreIchatEffects installer adds an uninstaller application that you say looks like Terminal. You should be able to run the MoreIchatEffects Uninstaller application by merely double-clicking its iCon and following any on-screen instructions.
If you need more help with how to run the Uninstaller than you can find from MoreIchatEffects> Help, you can contact the developer for assistance using the information from this page:
      http://ismileys.free.fr/contact.html
Based on the "... check the number of your effects. If it isn't a multiple of 8, it will crash always." comment on that page, you may also want to count the number of effects in your Mac's Library/Compositions folder to be sure that is not your problem. If you need help finding the effects files you are to count, see the next paragraph of this post.
    (2) If you cannot make the uninstaller work, note that the "Library/Compositions folder" that contains the effects files you can manually delete is the one in your Mac's startup drive Library/Preferences folder. Look in the "Compositions" folder there.
Do NOT remove any files from either the Library folder in your Mac's System folder
or from the Library folder in your ~ (Home) folder.
    (3) If you cannot make either method above work for you, you can use your Time Machine backup from a date prior to the time you installed MoreIchatEffects. For help, see:
