    Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Problem with PDF files

    Hello Experts,
I am having trouble with PDF files corrupting the folder in
which they are contained. If this sounds familiar, and you might be
able to help, please see if the following steps give you an idea of
    the problem and the fix.
I want to link to PDF files from a web page. The copy,
consisting of several files, was provided by my client as Word
documents, and converted to PDF by me from within Microsoft Word.
I copied the PDF files into their own folder in my site, and
found later, after leaving, then reopening Dreamweaver, that the
folder was corrupted and unreadable. I got a message to run chkdsk.
I tried working around the folder by repeating the process
above in a new file, with the intention of ignoring the corrupted
one. The second folder also became corrupted.
I don't know if chkdsk is a Dreamweaver utility, or a Windows
utility, or if this is a Windows, Acrobat or Dreamweaver problem.
Does anyone know how to run chkdsk?
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas?
Thanks so much in advance for the urgently needed support.
    Richard

chkdsk used to be a DOS utility, now Windows. Depending on
    the OS you have
and whether it's Mac or PC, you can run it several ways.
If XP > Start > Help and Support, type chkdsk in the
    search
    Other OSs, search for chkdsk.

  • I'm working on my iMac PowerMac8,2 PowerPC G5 (3.1) 2 GHz machine and have been having problems with the computer shutting down unpredictably. After the problem becoming impossible to work with, I shut the machine down. Now a little better, but reoccuring

I'm working with my iMac PPC G5, PowerMac8,2, 2 GHz machine running OS X 10.4.11, and was having a problem for a while with the machine shutting down unexpectedly. There was no clear pattern to when it was shutting down as far as I could tell. For a while, it would also not restart when buttoned on.
I set the machine aside for a while, probably a month or more, and then got it back out after its rustication. It started up and runs significantly better than it had been, but I have noticed it shutting down sometimes now again, though not as frequently as before. Sometimes it runs for a good long time between active work, sleep mode, and active work again. Once in a while it does shut down when no one is working on it (while asleep). But now it always restarts when buttoned on.
I've done the thorough vacuuming of any dust from the unit vents. I wonder if there's anything else I should try. In most other ways the machine works pretty well and has become the family desktop for basic uses, so I'd like to keep it running if I can. A little frustrating to not be able to upgrade all programs (iTunes) to useable versions, but that's another story....
I would appreciate any ideas about the shut down problem.

    Option 1
Reset your PRAM.  Press and hold down the Command Option P R keys while starting your computer.  You will hear the startup chime.  continue holding down those keys until you hear the startup chime a second time.  Release the keys.  If the computer restarts, you will need to reset your Date and Time.  It might be time to replace your PRAM battery.  The G5 iMacs require a 3 volt CR2032 lithium watch/camera battery like below:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CR2032/
You can find these batteries at Walmart, Kmart, Target, most local drugstore chains, for between $3-$5, or at Radio Shack for $12-$20.
If you have any G5 iMac model EXCEPT the iSight version, you can probably do the battery install yourself.  Watch this video on upgrading your iMac's RAM to show you how to remove the back of your iMac, if you don't already know how:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_g5_mem_m/
While you have the back off, use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out the vents at the bottom of the iMac, the fans, and anywhere else you can.  Also inspect the 28-30 capacitors on the logic board.  Look for dark spots, if they look puffy or swollen, or leaks.
    Option 2
Reset the SMC by removing all cables (USB, Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, Power cord) from the back of your computer.  Let it sit for one minute.  Press and hold the power on button on the back of the iMac while plugging in the power cord.  Release the power on button.  Count to five, the press the power on button again.
    Option 3
Place your original, came with the iMac when purchased install disk, into the slot on the iMac, press and hold the C key while pressing the power on button on the back of the computer.  (If you have upgraded your OS from when you purchased your iMac, example your iMac came with OS 10.3 installed, and you're now using OS 10.5, then use the OS 10.5 Retail Install disk that you had used to upgrade your OS instead of the original, came with the iMac disk.)
Continue holding the C key until you see the OS starting to load.  DO NOT do an OS installation.  At the top Menu bar, select Utilities or Utility, and pull down to Disk Utility.  On the left side of the window that opens, select your normal OS drive.  Click First Aid at the top middle of the window if it isn't already selected.  Click Repair Disk from the lower right area of the window.  When that is done, click Repair Permissions to the left of the Repair Disk button you clicked earlier.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility.  From the top Menu bar (I think its under Utilities) select the Start Up Manager, and choose your normal boot volume as the startup disk.  Restart the computer.  If successful, and you've rebooted from your normal startup disk, eject the install DVD/CD, and you're good to go.
    Good luck.

  • Problems with Macbook Pro shutting down

My macbook pro won't shut down completely.  It stops at the blue screen-when left to continue shutting down, it drains the battery.  I have to power down by holding the power button during this process.  Any suggestions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the times of the log messages referring to boot times. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a crash or a shutdown hang, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • HP Officejet100 Mobile L411a intermittent Bluetooth printing problems with PDF files

    Hello,
Our company provides computer-hosted medical devices controlled by an application running on Windows7 computers we supply. We are currently using the HP Officejet 100 as a Bluetooth printer. In some of our customer offices, we experience printing problems using the printer in Bluetooth mode (there are never problems if the printer is connected by a USB cable.)
The printing problems typically affect PDF files printed through Adobe Reader 10, and the symptom is one of the following:
Send a print job to the printer. It doesn't print and eventually the print queue shows an "Error Printing" message. If any print jobs are removed and the printer is power-cycled, the problem goes away for the time being.
    2.  Same as above but power-cycling does not cure the problem and nothing will print, even a test page.
In either of these cases there are no problems if a USB cable is used.
The PDF files we are trying to print are typically 5 pages with 3 of the pages having a lot of graphics and the remainder being text only.
Has anyone seen this behavior and is there anything we can do about it?
    Thanks.

I don't anything about this printer, but I do know that bluetooth is really flaky with large files since it's got a crappy transfer rate, could be that the transfer is dropping and freezing the printer up. Does it have encryption turned on?

  • N9 and problem with pdf-files

The problem is: I download an pdf file from internet. Filename is containg skandinavian characters which are converted as "%D6 etc." When I try to open the file with N9 I get an error similar to: "file is corrupted, can not open the file". Yet the same file works fine with Nokia C5-00 and with my Macbook laptop. Any idea how to fix this problem?

is the device actually sold in your country of origin, or was it imported.
not that it should really matter, but sometimes could be an issue.
you could also try to rename the file and then try to open it.

  • Problem with PDF files opening up in code on IMac OS 10.6.6

Just bought a new IMac three weeks ago (my first Apple Computer after years of using a PC). I've been using their TextEdit program to create simple documents, and routinely save the documents as PDF's to make it easier to share with clients. Everything has worked fine until three days ago - now whenever I open a PDF file it shows up in code. This is happening to documents I created several weeks ago, it is happening to new documents I am creating, and it is happening to PDF files clients are sending to me. (For instance, today I received a PDF file attached to an email from a client - if I hit "quick look" I can view the document with no problem, but if I hit save, or double click the document in order to print, the document shows up in code (and prints in code). Eek! I just spent over an hour with Apple support trying to figure out a solution, but they ended up just as baffled as me, and directed me to call Adobe. Hoping someone can help me figure out what I need to do to resolve this. Thank you!

Thank you George for your response to my plea for help. Late yesterday I was able to get in touch with a friend familiar with Mac and PC and she figured out my main problem was trying to use TextEdit as a primary document program. (She also had me try to open some PDF files with preview, but they still came up as code.) She quickly realized I would be able to open these files in my documents file - I was trying to open them up in the TextEdit program. Anyway, the main thing I'm realizing is I need to get Microsoft Office to avoid these challenges in the future. As you can tell, I'm not up to speed on computer stuff, but my friend said the Apple support guy should have realized right away that using TextEdit the way I was attempting to use it was my real problem, not an issue with Adobe Reader.
    Thanks again!

  • Problem with PDF files created by Indesign

PDF files created by Adobe Indesign come up as blank pages whereas PDF files created by Mac OS X or Apple's Pages display OK. Is there a difference in the way PDF files are created?

No problem with Adobe Reader 8 or 9 .

  • Problem with PDF file in a side by side format?

I have a pdf file that I need to read like a book on a website.  It is 12 pages so I want p1 separate then 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, etc.  I was able to accomplish this HOWEVER I needed the recipient to be able to download & upload this file to their website.  As a test I emailed this to a family member, when they downloaded the file, they were able to view this document side by side in Acrobat.  So I emailed the pdf to the web master and they tell me when they tried to do this on their end, the file is not side by side,  it is only scrolling up and down.  So my question is how do I get the recipient (web master) to be able to put my file on their website in the "book" side by side format?

The term "book" needs some nit-picking/clarification/discussion.
If we assume book & your pdf document are synonymous than -
With you initial view settings set the recipient will open the document as described, if they are opening the document in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
Their local Preference for "Restore last view settings..." does become a concern. (They should clear the option as necessary)
    FaithfulHound wrote:
I should mention they do have other doc's on their site in book format so I am just very confused why they can't see mine in the  same way?
View the other documents. Are they pdf? Check those documents (File > Properties) to discern what settings they have used. (Initial view also allows page scaling).
The term "book" needs some nit-picking/clarification/discussion.
"Books" on the web could mean a variety of formats.
I have a pdf book hosted this week. I spent a good deal of time creating perhaps 100 live bookmarks within the document, verified that the document opens with the Bookmarks pane viewable and navigates properly in Adobe software.
Upon providing this to the client he decides to view on a hand held device (doesn't quite now how or what viewer his device use using), send back & forth to his web guy, they decide this is great, but I don't think they ever saw the bookmarks panel I included. Additionally, one the first page I included the phrase "Best viewed with Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat" They asked me to remove that - they thought (correctly) that their smartphones opened the document faster.
Point being - you have NO control on how the documents will be viewed. Local settings (document application handling/default viewers) for recipients are to varied and cannot be controlled.

  • Ouick Time problems with pdf files

Help!! I can't view web pages that contain pdf files in the pdf format; the QT logo appears and I just get a picture of the first page of the pdf. If a download option is available, I can usually get it to download, but if the link takes me to a page where the pfd resides I just get that first-page display. I have tried to keep Acrobat Reader open while accessing the content, but it doesn't help. This happens with Firefox, Safari & Opera.
I need to download some forms to print & fill out, so any help to solve this problem soon would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks all,
    Bee

I don't how things got changed, but I have resolved this issue on my computer. After Googling and searching in other forums, etc., here's what I did. I had Reader open. Closed it and relaunched. When it opened I got a message that Adobe Reader was not configured as an "internet helper" and asked if I wanted to repair this. I said yes. Then...since I ticked and unticked various other preferences trying to resolve this, I had to go back to Safari prefs and make sure that Open Safe Files was turned on. I think I quit Safari and restarted. Then it worked!!! Clicked the PDF link and it downloaded as a PDF into my downloads folder. All is back to normal.

  • Printing problem with PDF files

Hello. I recently have bought mac book (10.9). When I try to print pdf files, it does not work. I can print word files, but when I open a pdf file either by acrobat reader or preview, it does not print. Thank you very much for your help.

Also having other "permission" based problems as well. Other people cannot open my PDFs even though I have not used any security. I'm thinking about getting a previous version of Accrobat Pro and installing that.
