Problems accessing windows share folders with iMac joined to the domain

Hi,
Following the Apple Seminar (http://seminars.apple.com/seminarsonline/addamac/apple/index.html?s=300) I've joined an iMac (10.6.2) to a Windows Domain successfully and I can login with my windows account.
The problem arises when I try to mount a share folder. Mac ask me if I want to access as a guest or as a registered user, and it's really weird since the folder belongs to the windows user. It seems like Mac doesn't use the login account to access the share folders...
Regards,

Hi,
I'm trying to use the Connect to Server > smb://ipaddressoftheserver (smb://192.168.100.1/implementaciones) but it ask me for the authentication again....
It seems there is a problem with Snow Leopard and AD with .local domains. I've trying this solution:

  • With Lion, Problems Accessing Shared NTFS Folders with SMB://

    We are testing a local login script that we created for our Macintosh users on Lion. It has worked fine on all OS X versions prior to 10.7. Listed below is the script that we are using. When we run the script, it now mounts a folder called "home" instead of "username" and throws an error stating that "The folder can't be opened because you don't have permissions to see its contents." I have referenced the following Apple document and it was not helpful in resolving the issue.
    The following is the share path that we are trying to mount to in the script:
    /home/username
    and the following NTFS permissions have been provided to the respectively listed directories.
    /home -- All users can Read attributes, Read extended attributes, Read permissions
    /home/username -- All users have full control of this folder
    Here is the script that we place in /usr/local/sbin:
    #!/bin/bash
    clear
    username="$(whoami)"
    IP="$(dig $HOSTNAME +short)"
    VOLUMES="/Volumes/Workarea /Volumes/$username"
    for volume in $VOLUMES ; do
        [ -d $volume ] && umount -f $volume
    done
    if [ "$username" != "adminuser" ] && [ "$username" != "setupuser" ]; then
        osascript -e "try" -e "mount volume \"smb://domain.com/Workarea\"" -e "end try"
        osascript -e "try" -e "mount volume \"smb://domain.com/home/"$username\" -e "end try"
    fi
    killall -u $username Terminal
    I am not sure what additional NTFS permissions need to be provided or if we have something that we need to edit in our script since Apple changed some of the SAMBA items in Lion.

    Cross posted to here in case there is some additional ideas that come from a different community of Apple folks.

  • Problem accessing Windows network - permission checking is inconsistent

    I am in the process of making the move at my workplace from a Windows/Solaris environment to an exclusively-Solaris workstation environment. I have wanted to do this for a while but now that Evolution is bundled in with Solaris 10 I have finally embarked down this path.
    One of things that I need to be able to do is access Windows shares on our corporate network. I am having a few issues with this using the Java Desktop system in Solaris 10. Here is a quick view of the windows network hierarchy.
    Windows Network -> Sub-network -> List of machines ->
    List of folders on a given machine -> List of sub-folders within a given folder and so on ....
    Here is what I am trying to do.
    1) Double Click 'Network Places' from the desktop.
    2) When the window 'File Browser: Network Places' opens, it appears that my Solaris workstation has automatically detected the presence of a Windows network. Very slick!
    3) Double click on the 'Windows Network (SMB)' icon.
    4) A list of sub-networks appear. Occasionally this list is not 100% complete. ie. there are 5 sub-networks but only 2 will appear on occasion.
    5) Double click the smaller network that I wish to access. The various machines within this network appear as a list of hostnames.
    6) Double click on the machine that I wish to access and a list of folders on this machine appear.
    7) Double click on the folder that I wish to access and a list of subfolders is presented. When I try to naviagte deeper an 'Authentication Required' window appears. I enter my username, password and domain. I also check the 'Remember password for this session' and 'Save password in keyring' options.
    8) I am prompted with a 'Create Default Keyring' window asking me for a password to associate with the default keyring. I enter the same password that I entered in Step 7.
    9) A list of subfolders appears. This is great. But when I attempt to navigate any deeper ... I cannot. A dialog pops up saying "The folder contents could not be displayed" with a message stating "You do not have permissions necessary to view the contents of the "foldername".
    At this point, the file broswer gets in to a funny state. I try to hit the 'up' arrow to return to the folder which I could previously access but I am now greeted with a dialog claiming that I do not have permissions to access this folder. I cannot access anything past the first folder level on a given machine even though I could just a minute ago. This "funniness" clears up after some length of time. ie. if I come back in an hour, I can once again reach part 1 of step 9 without being greeted with permission errors.
    Are there any SAMBA config options that I need to tweak or add to my smb.conf file to make :
    1) the listing of Windows networks be more consistent
    2) the permission checking to be more consistent and stable
    Or does the issue lie on the Windows side of things.
    Thanks in advance for any help,
    Tim

    Thought I would update this one myself in case anyone else was having similar problems with a baseline Sol10 install. I suspected the problem was with Samba or the GNOME Keyring Manager. I downloaded Sun's new Update Connection tool to stay on top of patches. (http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=42e02045) I installed a slew of GNOME and underlying OS patches and things are working now. Pays to stay up to date. ;)

  • Smbntefs probelm accessing windows shares

    Hello,
    I followed the wiki guide about smbnetfs and the output informations after smbnetfs installation. The shares are automatically mounted in /mnt/smbnet and I can see them,
    but when i double click a share
    (through Thunar - Xfce4) I take the following message:
    Failed to open directory "PC_SHARE"
    Software caused connection abort
    Is the problem caused because of file permissions?
    Can anyone tell me in detail what chmod I have to do and where?
    Also which files must be in ~/.smb? (and the permissions of that folder)
    (At the past I had no problem accessing the shares with the same tool and without conserning about the permissions of that folders)

    Have you tried simply disconnecting from the Windows share and reconnecting? Rebooting may be overkill
    The Mac network browser seems to be relatively static or lazy, and often needs a bit of prodding to recognize changes on the other systems, esp. a Windows share.
    I would not call it a bug, but it is something to be aware of.
    Sometimes the Windows share on my Mac remains in the Finder window long after I have shut down the Windows box.

    I'm in iPhone 5.  I transfer photos to a Windows 7 PC, using the USB cable.  Lately, the photos are appearing in Windows Explorer within monthly folders, with gibberish titles.  The folder names will be 8 random letters and numeric characters.  I tend to let photos build up, so there are about 2 years worth of these monthly folders… Between 20 and 25.  This is a huge hassle… I'm unable to tell what months are in each folder, by the folder name.…  Have to open each folder to see which month is in there.  I want to be able to look at all the photos on the iPhone in one view, as I was able to in the past.  How do I stop this foldering of photos, by months??  Thank you.  BC

    I have the same issue. I searched and finally got only one answer is -- Apple suggest customer using iMAC to transfer and backup photos instead of Windows. How great the solution is it!

  • Accessing Windows Shares

    There are several windows shares on the network that I have access to through my Macbook Pro. However, when someone adds a file to one of them, I do not see the file right away when I try to access the share. I have tried reconnecting to it multiple times but still do not see the file. The only solution I found that works is 'rebooting', which I should not have to do. Looks like there is some caching going on somewhere. Anyone have ideas on how to get access to the 'latest' files?

  • Is there no way to share folders with the rest of the Team, rather than file by file, link by link

    Is there no way to share folders with the rest of the Team, rather than file by file, link by link, potentially hundreds of links for a folder containing graphics, html, css, etc for a web project?
    Not quite sure what's the advantage of a team account - just seems like a bulk purchase of single accounts. As a team working in the cloud I'd expect to be able to collaborate on projects not a single file.

    Folder sharing is not currently available.
    The advantage of a Team account is not bulk purchase but being able to assign and remove Seats as needed by an Administrator who handles billing. With an Individual subscription the payment information is attached to each the individual.

  • Folders with forward slashes in the name not appearing in Mail.app Exchange

    Has anybody else seen this? For folders with forward slashes in the name, such as "Meetings/Events", the folder shows up in Outlook Web Access and over Exchange in Entourage 2008, but not Exchange over IMAP with Mail.app in Snow Leopard. The folder shows up once I remove the forward slashes, such as "Meetings Events" or "Meetings-Events" or "Meetings and Events".
    Is this a known issue, and is there a fix besides renaming the folders?

    In Unix the forward slash is an illegal character for a filename. In general you should avoid using it as the forward slash is used in path names such as /Folder/File. Avoid using the colon as well because it's commonly used as part of a disk identifier in OS X.
    This is not any different than avoiding the backslash in Windows filenames.

  • HT202905 Applescript is exporting folders with a space after the foldername.

    Applescript is exporting folders with a space after the foldername. This is causing problems with an FTP upload of ours. Is there a way to ensure Applescript doesn't insert spaces on the end of folder names?
    Thank you!

    i bought a used 2 year old macbook pro last week did an erase and install with leopard and once that was done with nothing transfered firewire the drive had over 20 gigs of used space on it so i started snooping around and saw a number of folders in a folder labeled base system that have a solid red circle with a white dash in the middle next to them after clicking on them it says i do not have permission even though i am in under admin?
    the fact that you are an admin doesn't mean that you automatically have access to everything. those folders are owned by the system and have restricted permissions. you should not mess with them. those permissions are mostly restricted to prevent curious users with itchy fingers from damaging the system. as an admin user you can change those permissions and give yourself access to those folders but as i said you shouldn't.
    any ideas to what it is what to do or why it took over 20 gigs to install?
    20 Gigs sounds like a bit too much. have you installed any programs besides leopard itself?

    How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

    Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
    The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
    The second is a bit trickier.

  • I have 10Gb of photos on my iphone, so can choose only half of it (5Gb) and share it with icloud and leave the rest on my phone storage, or i must share all photos and videos (my whole camera roll)

    I have 10Gb of photos on my iphone, so can choose only half of it (5Gb) and share it with icloud and leave the rest on my phone storage, or i must share all photos and videos (my whole camera roll)

    No.  Your iCloud account only includes your the camera roll photos stored in the backup.  And they can only be accessed by restoring the backup to your phone.  Also, if you delete any photos from your camera roll and continue to back up, the backup that contained the deleted photos would be overwritten by one that doesn't and they would be lost.
    If you want to save some of them and delete them from your phone, import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
    Another option is to import all of them to your computer and delete them from your phone, then put the ones you want on your phone in a folder and sync them back to your phone by selecting the folder on the photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  The advantage of this approach is that synced photos are placed in an album called Photo Library, which is not included in the iCloud backup (since they are already backed up on your computer), thereby saving space in your iCloud account (which only backs up camera roll photos).

    how do i share music with 2 iphones using the same apple id?

    Sync them both to the same iTunes music library.  You can also automatically download purchased music to both by going to Settings>iTunes & App Stores and turning Music to On under Automatic Downloads.  If you music is in multiple computers, you can enable Home sharing to share your music library across multiple devices (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819).
