Problems after sleep mode with wifi connection

I got my first iMac the other week but i keep having problems after it has gone into Sleep Mode.
Once i log back in to use my iMac again i can't seem to go online  =and have lost connectivity with emails etc.  Its showing that i'm still connected to my wifi and the only way to fix it is to restart.
I have already connect chat support about this and the made me reset my PRAM and reset the systems management controller (SMC)
Does anyone have any ideas??

Personally I don't let the computer sleep, I set the display to sleep. This has the same net effect and in the 8+ years I have been using OS X I have never had a problem. Set the Computer's sleep setting to Never and set the display sleep to the amount of time you had the computer sleep set at.
However if you want to try with computer sleep instead of display sleep check if the wake for network access box is checked. If it already is they your issue is likely somewhere else.

  • Server connections are lost after sleep mode with Mavericks.

Ever since I "upgraded" to Mavericks, when I "wake" my iMac after putting it in Sleep mode, the network connections have disconnected and I have to re-connect all of them (6) every day. This never happened with Mountain Lion or any other previous version of OS X. Is there a fix for this?

I've also noticed this problem. Brand new MBP with Mavericks, goes to sleep, on wakeup all my network drives are disconnected, as is Outlook 2011. None of them recover gracefully - I have to manually reconnect. Aggravating..

  • MacBook Air wireless connection problem after sleep mode

    Hello guys,
My MacBook Air have problems to connect back to my wireless after comming back from sleep mode. It needs few minutes until it finds again the network.
Does anyone have the same problem or better, a solution to this?

    Hello there TheTomcat,
I would recommend the Solution section of our article Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.

  • When in sleep mode my wifi connection keeps dropping out

Since updating to iOS 6 on my iPad 3 when I but my pad into sleep mode I loss wifi connection. When I wake the pad the wifi connection comes back.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Not likely an infection at all.
Wake from sleep is usually some problematic USB or FW device.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Sleep/Wake problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

    Hi,
Half of the time when I put my mid 2010 MacBook Pro in sleep mode by closing the screen it won't restart once I open the screen back again (the screen remains black). This hasn't happened that many times before, but now its becoming more frequent. The only way I can restart my Mac is by holding the on/off button for a few seconds.
Does anyone had similar problems or knows who I could resolve this issue?
I would appreciate any help on the matter
    I run:
    OS X version 10.9.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13-inch

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading "Additional troubleshooting." If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
              Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
    Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
    Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    Step 5
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
    com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • MacBook problems after sleep mode

I am constantly getting the beach ball after my laptop comes out of sleep mode. It doesn't happen immediately, usually 5-10 minutes after I open it and begin using it all applications will freeze. I can force quit them, but I cannot re-open the application, or anything else on the computer. I am forced to shut down using the power button because I cannot even shut down normally. This happened shortly after I downloaded Lion OS.. Is there a way to fix this or am I screwed?

    Hi Z,
Did you create a backup right before installing Lion?
If so, I'd go back to it.
    If not, I'd reinstall Lion.

  • After update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • Since upgrade to ios6 l have been having problem with wifi connection and connecting to App Store and iTunes store

Q since upgrade to iOS6 l have been having problem with wifi connection and getting into App Store and itunes

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • Upgraded to lion now my wi-fi loses connection after sleep mode, it still shows as connected but does not go out to the internet. Please help

After I upgraded to lion I have been having constant issue with my wi-fi after sleep mode. I close the lid and when I reopen I open safari and cannot connect to the internet. Wi-fi is on and I am connected to my router, but it doesnt seem to be on the internet. Now how I resolve this issue is turn of the wi-fi and turning it back on, then i am back on the net. this is mos-def a bug i have never had that problem with snow leopard. Please assist or provide hot-fix

I have the same issue and have to cycle the wireless modem on the laptop. Doesn't matter if I'm on a preferred netowrk or no, or if I stay on the same network or move. I come out of sleep, I have to cycle the modem.
It's not life threatening, or anything, but it's a hassle. I didn't have the issue with Snow Leopard.

  • Yosemite upgrade: function keys no longer work, no keyboard lights and have to sign in twice after sleep mode.  Anybody else having these problems?

    Hi,
Since I did the Yosemite 'upgrade' last week I have been having problems with my MacBook Pro that never happened before.  The most frustrating problems involve my keyboard which doesn't light up (checked my settings and they are correct) and the top row of function keys don't do anything so I can't adjust the volume, brightness, etc.  Then if my screen goes into sleep mode, when I wake it back up I have to sign back in twice - I never had to sign in at all after sleep mode before.
I'm finding that in order to get it working properly I am having to completely shut down and start up again but when the keyboard problems are happening I can't get anything on the apple dropdown to work either (i.e. shut down, restart, etc) so I can only shut down by pressing and holding the on/off button.
I've never had problems with my Macbook before and feel like Apple have completely ruined it in one update!  I've had a look through other posts on here but can't find anybody else having these problems so I would be really grateful if anyone could help me and offer me some advice on how to sort it out.
    Thanks!

    Hi ..
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You may have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.

  • Mac Mini i7 After Yosemite update, sleep mode affecting internet connection

    Hi,
I got a Mac Mini i7 for July 2014 everything was awesome.  On Monday, October 27th 2014, I notice the port where my Mac Mini is connected, the light is amber colour.  When this happens there's no internet connection for the Mac Mini and affects the router has it slows the connection.  After doing the following:
    1. Turn off Modem for 20mins (hard reset)
    2. Turn off Router for 20mins (hard reset)-Router Netgear WNDR4000
    3. Set Service Order
    4. Change Ethernet Cable
    5. Renew the DHCP
I found out the when the Mac Mini goes to sleep mode thats when connections drops.  I test where i set it to 1min and voila the port is now amber colour.
I don't want to keep the Mac Mini i7 in "never" status has it decrease life.
Put hard disk to sleep when possible and Wake for network access are checked.
Of course before the update, everything was working fine.  Any ideas is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Retsel Adrec

    Re-installing Yosemite fixed this problem.
