Problems displaying images on tv using dvi-vga cables

I connected my macbook to a Samsung hdtv via dvi-vga cables. The picture looked great on the tv, however it only displays my background. The tv does not display any open windows, desktop folders, or even the application dock at the bottom of the computer screen. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong??

You need to go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Mirror displays

    To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
    Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
    But however you do choose to link the two machines...
    Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
    This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

  • MBP + dvi-vga cable+ Canon LV-S3 Projector equals jittering picture

    MBP + dvi-vga cable provided by apple connected to Canon LV-S3 Projector produced a jittery picture on the pull down projector screen.
    Can I solve this shaky image by changing some screen resolution on the MBP?

    no hdmi. it had 15-pin vga and usb, and the owner said there was a serial connection but I did not believe him.
    connection thread was
    mbp
    dvi-vga cable
    vga extender
    vga port of canon
    genius at apple store suggested going to display prefs and select "detect" displays to see if there is a problem and adjust mbp to the projector
    but we could not test this

  • Using DVI - HDMI cable output to Samsung LCD TV

    For some reason, i have been using the DVI -> VGA Adapter with a VGA cable outputted to my new Samsung LCD TV, with resolution 1920x1080. I purchased a DVI -> HDMI Cable, but the quality/resolution is subpar to using the VGA Cable, it seems as if the resolution is upscaling itself, but according to Display Preferences, it is outputting at 1920x1080i, When i'm using the VGA cable it just says 1920x1080, without i or p.
    Anyone know why?

    I've been trying to communicate with a Samsung LE40A656 via a DVI-HDMI cable.
    I think there must be issues with HDMI on that model because the TV can't detect a signal on the HDMI port and the MPB can't see a monitor.
    But I have managed to get full screen via the Apple DVI-VGA adaptor and the D-sub port on the Samsung using the specification in this archive thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6400626&#6400626
    Before I upgraded my TV I had a cheap(ish) Hyundai Vuon with a DVI port which worked fine with my MBP.
    Would still like to know why HDMI doesn't work on the Samsung.

    Will the lightning to HDMI dongle work?
    thanks for any help!
    This was a big advantage of AppleTV1 - generally it did not need internet authorisation for synced material on its internal drive and was great for holiday/vacation.
    I tend to use a Mac Mini these days when going away.

  • When i connect my mac book pro to an external display using a VGA cable and adaptor, the external display splits into several different columns of the same screen overlapping one another. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this happens?

    I have used different VGA to mini port adaptors, different VGA cables and connected them to different external monitors and prjectors but the same thing happens. I am starting to think there may be a problem with the macbook itself however, when i have used a HDMI lead and adaptor to external monitors the external display is fine.

    Hello,
    It is very difficult for us to "guess" what images you can read and what others you cannot.
    Maybe you could provide more information on images that are not displayed ?
    What is their native format ?

  • Problem Displaying Images in a JFrame

    I am writing a program that displays images on a JFrame window. I have been reading the other postings about this topic however I have not been able to make my code work. I am hoping there is some obvious solution that I am not noticing. Please help, I am very confused!
    public class WelcomeWindow {
    private JLabel label;
    private ImageIcon logo;
    public WelcomeWindow() {
    label = new JLabel();
    logo = new ImageIcon("/images/logo.gif");
    label.setIcon(logo);
    this.getContentPane().add(label);

    Instead of a JLabel, have you tried to use a JButton containing the Icon?
    Also (but I think you've done it already), you could do that :
    File iconFile = new File("/images/logo.gif");
    if (!iconFile.isFile()) {
    System.out.println("Not a file");
    That way you'll be certain that the path given is correct.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I display to a projector using the VGA adapter?

    Using a VGA Adapter to the Thunderbolt connection, I  can display a Keynote presentation just fine, but I cannot seem to display the screen to project an internet page to a group of people. Is there some trick to this?

    From your description my guess is that you need to open System Preferences and select the Displays tab. Then click on the Arrangement tab and in the bottom right hand corner click on Mirror Displays. My guess is that at the moment your display setup is for 2 separate displays, 1 for the computer and 1 for the projector.

  • No widescreen modes available using dvi-vga adapter

    I have a sony gdm-fw900 24" widescreen CRT monitor and just bought a new mac mini (1.66 dual core, 1GB etc). For some reason the mini does not detect that this is a widescreen monitor so all i get are standard 4:3 resolutions in the display system preference. I'm connecting through the standard white dvi-vga adapter that came with the mini.
    Is there a way to enable other resolutions? I want to run it at 1920 x 1200
    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for the expertise, its just that I'm buying a 26" Sony Bravia for my bedroom when I save up enough which will serve for my Mac Mini, (via vga), and for my PS3 (via HDMI when it is released). It would be ideal for the Bravia to have a DVI connection of that of a monitor, however I still think that VGA is a sound connection as I have seen in pictures off 123MacMini.com of users having connected that way.

  • How to display image in database using html or php

    i've try already to work this thing but i can't do it. anyone that can help me or give me any example or reference to resolve my problem to retrieve or display image(blob) from database. hope that all of you help me

    Using JHeadstart, you can display a BLOB column from the database in HTML, by way of ADF. Check out the JHeadstart Tutorial at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/jhstutorial/index.html to get started, then do the same for your own database tables that include the BLOB column. JHeadstart will take care of rendering it as a file upload or image, depending on the display type you set at the attribute level.

  • Problems displaying image in image item

    Hi,
    I have some tiff images on filesystem. which i sucessfully loaded into the database and are stored in blob column, thru SQL*Plus. when i tried to view these images in image item on my form, some of them doesn't show up. i checked the the length of the blob column, to see whether the image is actually loaded into the database and i found that the length is greater zero(infact very high). then i tried to load the image, which doesn't show up, from forms by read_image_file, neither it loads the image nor it displays an error.
    iam using oracle8i database and forms6.0.
    any help is greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    Krupal.

    thanx feng,
    i have tried to load the images thru forms into the database by using read_image_file. but some of the images are not showing up in the image item. i seriously doubt there is something wrong with the image file itself. the image files are in tiff format but saved with an extension .000 file for some reasons. now i doubt that all that images are not tiff files, some of them may be of some other type. bcos when i tried to save one of them as a tiff file it took more space than what it was earlier. after saving as tiff file the form loads the image successfully. is there anyway way that i can load the image in whatever form it is? or is there any way to convert automatically these images to tiff format?

  • No Native Res with DVI/HDMI but OK with DVI/VGA cable on Loewe 32" LCD

    Hi there, I am a little confused about connecting my mini to my Loewe Individual LCD TV and coudl do with some help.
    I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable at enormous cost because my experience of DVI versus VGA is like night and day and I wanted to have the best possible connection to my HD TV.
    The problem is that when I connect the mini with the DVI/HDMI cable the native resolution of my TV is not available. (1366x768 or thereabouts) The only resolutions to choose from are 1920 x 1080? and 1024 X 768. Using overscan on the 1024 fills the screen correctly but looks all stretched.
    Instead I connected with a VGA cable and the correct resolution is automatically detected immediately and there is no problem at all.
    I am a little bit confused as to why it works fine with VGA but not with DVI/HDMI. The VGA connection looks OK but why compromise when you shoudln't have to?

    First of all, I am far from an expert but as I said, from my experience and after reading a LOT, HDMI cannot support 1366x768, that is why the TV goes without picture if you try. Why? I don't know.
    Now, DVI is almost like VGA, both are analog, and can support 1366x768 or 1920x1200. But since you go from DVI output from the Mac Mini to the HDMI cable, screen goes black, blue, etc, res no supported.
    That is why some people don't have problems with the powerbook and their HDTV's, and then they try with the DVI-HDMI adaptor (normally with the mac mini) and it's no good.
    The thing is, you can get 720p, 1280x720 but with overscan, so with DisplayconfigX you go from:
    1280x720 (720p)
    128 Front Porch 10
    80 Sync 5
    200 Back Porch 15
    1688 Total 750
    to
    1240x680
    128 Front Porch 19
    80 Sync 5
    240 Back Porch 38
    1688 Total 750
    for example, with this setup you get the image cut to a minimum.
    As you can see the totals are in both cases 1688 750. As soon as you don't respect this totals, like in this example:
    1366x768
    28 Front Porch 5
    80 Sync 5
    40 Back Porch 15
    1514 Total 793
    your TV won't be able to dispay the image. But with VGA the totals don't matter!!!!, that is why it works with one cable and not with the other.
    Apple should update the Intel graphic card drivers, maybe that would help.
    Bye

  • Why doesn't Apple permit playing a rented movie on a large screen TV using a VGA cable?

    I was disappointed after waiting over 8 hrs to download an HD movie to my iPad2 from iTunes that I could not play it on my large screen. I connected the iPad to the TV with an Apple VGA adaptor. I got the error message "CANNOT PLAY MOVIE. The connected display (my large screen TV) is not authorized to play protected movies." Yet, in the information provided by Apple, it says I can play the movies on my TV with Apple TV. What's the difference other than Apple TV has an HDMI connector instead of the VGA connector. BTW I had the iPad connected to my stereo set via the iPad's headphone jack.

    The VGA cable does not offer the copy protection necessary to allow the conetn to be played.
    For instance I use an HDMi Adapter from apple and can play movies and TV shows on my HD TV just fine from my iPad 2 and I don't own an Apple TV.
    The following article explains it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4108
    Apple wrote:
    HDCP requirements
    iTunes Store movies (SD and HD) and TV shows (HD) require an HDCP digital connection such as the one provided when using the Apple Digital AV Adapter and HDMI cable. If you attempt to play this content using a non-HDCP digital connection, such as the Apple VGA Adapter, an alert will appear to let you know that an HDCP-compatible device is required. To view iTunes Store content using a non-HDCP digital connection, do one of the following:
    Sync the SD version of the TV show
    Use an Apple Component AV cable to play the HD version at 480p
    Use an Apple Composite AV cable to play the HD version at 480i
    Attempting to play rental content on a device that requires an HDCP digital connection may start the rental timer. Use one of the recommended Apple AV cables to view your rental before the time limit expires.
    This is more the movie studios doing than anythng Apple is pushing. Though it may help push their Apple TV.
