Problems displaying russian characters in Adobe Reader

Good afternoon.
There is a file pdf, received from the customer. Most of it contains Russian letters. As a result, the latest version of Adobe Reader in Windows Vista and Mac OS (10.5.8 and 10.8.2), these characters do not display properly.
In Windows XP, 7 and 8 display problems are observed.
Ironically, Windows Vista and Mac OS that file correctly displays the program Foxit Reader and NeoOffice. MacOS also tried to open the file, adobe acrobat, but it is also not display the characters of the Russian alphabet. In what could be the problem?
Properties problem file:
Here is the Fonts tab in Mac OS:

I can't set the default encoding for non-Unicode programs on Mac. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2134043?start=0&tstart=0 This must be done directly in the Reader.
Just don't understand what to change

  • Problems displaying an image on Adobe Reader 8.1.2

    Hi guys,
    We are trying to display a JPG image in an InteractiveForm. So, we set an Image (StaticImage) to be loaded using the following Formcalc script on Page Initialize event:
    StaticImage1.value.image.href = $record.ImageURL
    On our last project, we could display a JPG image with Adobe Reader 6 (with some alert messages), 7 and 8 (7 and 8 fully functional). But in this one, the same solution doesn't work. The unique difference between both solutions is the URL format. Last project displays an image based on a normal URL ("http://app.client.com/photo/1234.jpg"), and in the current project we create a PNG or JPG image based on a JFreeChart, generating an URL to access it ("http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg").
    When we load it using a computer with Adobe Reader 7.0.x installed, the bellow message is displayed requesting an action:
    "Acrobat is attempting to connect to the site:
    http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg
    If you trust the site click "Allow", otherwise click "Block".
    Possible actions: Block, Allow and a check "Remember my action for the site: server1"
    Allowing the connection, the images are displayed. But, in a machine with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed, sometimes it asks for permission to access the URL, sometimes not. And, in both cases, in this version it doesn't display the images...
    Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, is there a way to block this annoying message?
    Regards,
    Douglas Frankenberger
    P.S.:
    1 - The Image is not marked as Embedded. This option don't seems to make any difference, as on our last project the StaticImage was not flaged as Embed, but the JPG file was embeded in the PDF anyway...
    2 - Interactive Form display type: native. Mode: updateDataInPDF
    3 - In current project, when we set the same image the we had set on the old project, it loads successfully. Also, the generated JFreeChart image is fully accessible when displayed directly in IE using its URL.
    4 - Versions:
      - Client: Windows XP Professional
      - NWDS 7.0.10
      - Adobe Livecycle 7.0.50519.0
      - Adobe Reader: 7.0.8, 7.0.9 and 8.1.2

    Hi Amita.
    We already tried it (checked / unchecked), but it seems to make no difference. There is a strange behavion on this:
    - When I set it checked, on a computer disconnected from the web and running Adobe Reader 7.0.9, it asks for permission to access a resource (as I said before). In this case, even disconnected, it shows up my image independent of allowing/blocking the access to the external resource. In other words, it is embedded (I think...), but continues asking for access anyway.
    - The same scenery above, but using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 instead of 7.0.9.... sometimes it asks for permission, sometimes not. But in both cases, it doesn't display the images...

  • I can't see the Greek characters using ADOBE reader

    Dear colleagues,
    Your help will be appreciated for the following problem:
    I have a tool which converts IBM I (AS400) spool file to PDF.
    The file has been copied to Windows environment.
    On generated PDF I can’t see the Greek characters using ADOBE reader v10.1.4.
    If I use Notepad to display the file, I can see the Greek characters.
    It seems that following PDF keywords are not recognized form PDF reader.
    /BaseFont /Courier
    /Encoding /WinAnsiEncoding
    I have tried to use various fonts and encoding (cp1253, ISO8859-7) with no luck.
    On PDF reader folder there is the following file:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Resource\TypeSupport\Unicode\Mappings\win\CP1253.TXT
    I believe somehow to tell PDF reader to use this encoding.
    What actions required on our Win/PDF environment setup?
    What actions required on PDF file generation? (/BaseFont, /Enconding, etc)

    Too many assumptions! It is much, much more complicated than your attempted solutions. The PDF Reference shows the contents of WinAnsiEncoding; this is as for your first example. I feel you probably need to spend very much more time reading this book.
    In the second example you are using a different code page (or other encoding method) to view the data. This is not going to help you because WinAnsiEncoding is fixed in all environments and does not use the code page.
    To use greek characters you will need the PDF to
    - use fonts which contain greek characters (the built in Courier PostScript font probably does not)
    - use an Encoding which references the greek characters. There are no built-in encodings that do this
    You cannot make simple cosmetic changes to this file to do this. The style of simplified font with no FontDescriptor can be used only for the built-in 14 fonts, which cannot be used with a greek encoding.
    Commonly, a combination of the greek letters in the Symbol font and the Latin letters in another font are used by constant font switching. This is of course only a solution for Greek, not other non-Latin alphabets.

  • Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader

    Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader.
    I installed the latest adobe reader for my Mac. Everything is set up. Every time i go to open a pdf file, this shows up...
    "Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch adobe reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then quit and relaunch the browser."
    I installed it through the adobe reader website for free. And even though it says 'by clicking "install now" you are agreeing to accept the user licence agreement terms and conditions' it still says i need to accept the T&C's.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and same thing over and over again.
    Can someone help!?!?!

    Did you actually try doing what the message suggests?  Open Adobe Reader and accept the EULA?

  • Fonts problem in Preview, but not Adobe Reader

    Hi.  I am preparing content within Sibelius (music writing software) - I use v.6.2 on my PC and create PDF files using Nitro PDF driver.
    Nearly all the people using my files are Mac users (on whose behalf I am writing!) and who have never had a problem viewing or printing the PDFs, until now.
    On opening the files (in Lion) in Preview app. there are certain font sets which have problems displaying correctly; the fonts are embedded within the PDFs yet some font characters appear, some do not.  These problem fonts are TTF types (VT Corona, Garrison Sans, e.g.).  However these PDFs view correctly within Adobe Reader on the same machines.  The files are also viewable on iPhone, iPad, PC (both PDF-XChange & Adobe Reader) and on other Macs running Snow Leopard.
    I have found streams of information about an issue in 10.6.7 with OpenType Postscript fonts not displaying, yet this problem was in third-party apps, with Preview never affected.  After a few hours combing here, and the web, I now ask the community!  Many thanks.

    I'm experiencing the same issues when opening PDF created by PDF-XChange.
    They open correctly on Adobe (for mac) but only show question marks on Preview (on all mac computers we have at the office).
    The font in question is Calibri and I confirmed the fonts are embedded.

  • Walmart online billing won't display my bill..adobe reader is installed

    I am new to safari so this may be simple.  I downloaded and installed adobe reader, but when I try to view my Walmart Credit on-line bill, it will not display.  I cannot download the file and open it.  That is NOT an option.... has something to do with the way Walmart set up the link.  I may have a problem with the adobe reader installation or may need to add something in my safari settings, but I don't understand what is missing.  Walmart help desk says use Internet Explorer, big help that was.
    Thanks for any help I can get.

    I have never uninstalled anything in OS X.  How about a hint where to start?
    To uninstall Reader 9 in Mac OS
    Drag the Adobe Reader 9 folder from the Applications folder to the Trash.
    Remove AdobePDFViewer.plugin from the Library > Internet Plug-Ins folder.
    Adobe Acrobat and Reader 9.1 Release Notes
    Also, will that make PDF's readable or am I just out of luck on that issue?
    All Mac users, except those who install Reader, can view PDF's in Safari. Why should you be any different?

  • Strange text display in pdf using adobe reader exported by Indesign CS5

    Hi there,
    I have export an interactive pdf from indesign CS5 PC version with version 7 update, and it looks fine in most of the PC and Mac Adobe reader.
    But 2 of the computer had strange text display. One is the iMAC with latest version of Adobe Reader
    <== you can see the text "78" and "454" are abnormal
    But with the same computer using Safari with perview plugin is showing following result:
    <==you can see the text are normal.
    The pdf is embedded with following fonts and property:
    Another Windows XP with Adobe Acrobat 9 will had same display as the iMac.
    I ensure the Windows XP don't have the font installed with HelveticaNeue and the Mac is using OS Lion Bundle with that font.
    Now the customer blame it is the problem of the pdf created by me and I had no idea how to explain to my customer and find out solution.
    I had a trial version of CC but same result and no error during the export.
    Any idea is highly appreciate. The customer hotline and the live chat is hopeless as they send me to this community to ask since I use CS5 not the latest version.

    Thanks Willi,
    I had the fonts of Helvetica Neue bold light etc which created by Adobe and the font was created in 1993,shown in font property.
    my PDF output is set to interactive not the print one. Other settings are default.
    the purpose of this PDF is for user to print out and read on website. The funny thing is print out had no problem at all with HP and Ricoh printer using PCL 6 driver.
    Despite Safari, the strange font happened in only Adobe product, other PDF reader had no problem such as foxit reader, xchange reader.
    I tried to not embed the font but not able to do indesign, search in Google, it said it always embedded. Also that font family is preloaded in Mac OS.
    I can try any test if there is a way to find out the solution.
    or what should I do so the PDF should display correctly in all computer
    thanks a lot.

  • Problems with Russian characters in BB Bridge

    Some time ago my contact list on BB 9800 was updated using Desktop software for Mac. Some of contacts were written in Russian. Same updates were made for MemoPad as well in the same manner. Everything was good on the smartphone side before I made an attempt to sync my phone with Playbook. Both sections refused to sync! After removing manually all contacts and memos with Russian font, the sync went normal again. There are a lot of problems with Playbook, which cost me my time and money. This was just one of them... Why not to say it clear - do not try to sync Russian characters?

    Same problem when I use Chinese.
    The only thing we can do now is to wait for an update! Which is hopefully make the Playbook worth something!

    The preferences don't necessarily matter. You most likely need to adjust the encoding in View > Text Encoding. If you will provide the url of an example page where you have a problem I can probably offer more specific help.

  • Negative Value Fields Not Displaying on Windows XP / Adobe Reader 10+

    Hi,
    We have some PDF forms for invoices.  At the bottom of the forms, there is a table with various totals (items total, discount total, restocking fee, etc).
    This is a pretty strange one to me.  Here is what I am seeing:
    If the dollar amount is negative in those totals, the dollar value will not show up.  It's only negative values, but it's consistent across all fields in this totals table.  I've confirmed this by manipulating values in the debugger.  So we would expect the table to look like this:
    Items Total: 10.00 USD
    Discount:    -1.00 USD
    Amount Due:   9.00 USD
    Instead we see:
    Items Total: 10.00 USD
    Discount:          USD
    Amount Due:   9.00 USD
    Even stranger, this only happens in our quality and production environments, not in our development environment.  It only happens when the user chooses to print preview, not if the output is triggered in the background.
    To further add to the confusion, it does not happen on Adobe Reader 9 or lower.  It does not happen on Windows 7.  This problem is reproducible only if the user is running Adobe Reader 10 and Windows XP.
    I'm reasonably confident this has something to do with ADS, but I don't even know where to start looking.
    Thanks
    Bryan

    The amount field in the interface is CURR 15.
    On the form, the amount field is a decimal field BUT this field is hidden.  The display field is defined as:
    Thanks,

  • Problems with uninstalling and updating Adobe Reader 9.x

    I have an issue with updating Adobe Reader 9.4.5. I get regularly automatic update routines and success reports after I ran them. However, when I open Adobe Reader it still shows up as version 9.4.5. So I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader completely. First of all, in the software panel two Adobe Reader versions show up: 9.4.5 & 9.3.5. Of those two, I could only uninstall the Adobe Reader 9.4.5. The 9.3.5 version doesn't sucessfully enter into an uninstall routine. As my computer expertise is limited, I don't know if there are other ways to remove that program successfully. Another odd thing is that when I open Adobe Reader, the version displayed is 9.4.5 although that was the one which seems to have uninstalled correctly. As you see, it's all a bit of a mess and I would appreciate your help with addressing this issues. Many thanks in advance.

    You may want to try the following.
    Remove  all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using  the  Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by  Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.

  • Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

    I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
    N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
    N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
    N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
    N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
    N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
    N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
    N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
    Would be grateful for any suggestions.

    This is really strange.
    Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
    Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
    Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.
    Thanks
    Ankit

  • Problems saving a file in Adobe Reader 11 after highlighting

    Hi,
    Has anyone come across a problem where Adobe Reader 11 seems to have problems in saving certain files after highlighting some text?
    One of our processes involves checking information and to do this we open up a saved PDF file in Adobe Reader 11 and highlight the relevant text to confirm the amounts have been checked, and then save the file.
    This is all done in Adobe Reader - not the full version and not using any external helpers etc, and running under Windows 8 64 bit.
    However one of our users is having problems with certain PDF files where, when she goes to save the file after highlighting, it comes up with an error saying that it can't save to this filename and requests that a new filename is entered. If we then save to a new file, and then save as to the original file it works.
    So basically this user is having to save the PDF file twice after highlighting - which is annoying.
    The strange thing is it appears to only be happening with PDFs created from certain applications on our system (payroll software and BACS processing software) whilst other PDFs work fine. Another user, also using Adobe Reader 11 and also using Windows 8 64 Bit, can open up the problem files, highlight text and save the changes without any problem at all, so it doesn't appear to be the files themselves.
    I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Adobe Reader without any success.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks

    I'm getting something similar, but the message I get is "...pdf already exists. Do you want to replace it?"  I click 'Yes' and the document is replaced under its original file name.  This is using Reader 11.0.10.
    Sorry - I should have been clearer.
    She gets exactly that question, but when she clicks yes, then she gets 'The document could not be saved. Cannot save to this filename. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.' At this point the name of the document as shown at the top of the screen has changed to a ???????.tmp filename.
    Trying to save this document over the top of the original now works.
    It looks like something is locking the original file and only releasing it after the attempted save, which then allows the original to be saved over.
    Also using 11.0.10

  • Problems displaying Thai characters in FTE components on Mac

    I had originally posted a question here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4027591, but was told that this is more of a flash runtime issue.
    I am running into issues displaying Thai characters in Flex components that make use of the Flash Text Engine (FTE), specifically on Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
    Here's a blurb of my compiler font managers in flex-config.xml:
    <flex-config>
            <target-player>10.2.0</target-player>
            <!-- Specifies the version of the compiled SWF -->
            <swf-version>11</swf-version>
            <compiler>
              <!-- Specifies the locales for internationalization. -->
              <locale>
                  <locale-element>en_US</locale-element>
              </locale>
              <fonts>
                  <!-- ... -->
                  <!-- Compiler font manager classes, in policy resolution order-->
                  <managers>
                      <manager-class>flash.fonts.JREFontManager</manager-class>
                      <manager-class>flash.fonts.BatikFontManager</manager-class>
                      <manager-class>flash.fonts.AFEFontManager</manager-class>
                      <manager-class>flash.fonts.CFFFontManager</manager-class>
                  </managers>
                    <!-- ... -->
                </fonts>
            </compiler>
        </flex-config>
    ...and another from flash-unicode-table.xml:
    <language-range>
        <lang>Thai</lang>
        <range>U+0E01-0E5B</range>
    </language-range>
    My flex application originally had the following defined in its stylesheet:
        Application {
            fontSize: 12px;
            fontFamily: Arial;
            font-sharpness:0;
            font-anti-alias-type:advanced;
    Thai characters render correctly in mx components such as TextField so far.  However, FTE components such as TextLine show those crappy-looking boxes as a substitution.  My initial guess was that somehow one of the compiler font managers declared in flex-config.xml was not finding the right system font to fallback to for Thai characters.  So, I ensured the system font was installed by going to System Preferences > Language and Text > Edit List.  Then I changed fontFamily to Arial, Ayuthaya.  Still was seeing the boxes of evil.
    Next I figured that perhaps the Arial font might be assigning a box for each unicode value corresponding to a Thai character.  So it was effectively overriding the Ayuthaya system font.  So I changed fontFamily once more to just Ayuthaya and this worked with one issue - Ayuthaya looks inherently different from Arial for non-thai characters.
    Here's my question - is there a less invasive way to support Thai in FTE components such that the appearance of the text is closer to the Arial font?  I would rather not embed a font because I'm constrained on SWF size.
    Oh and I'm using flash player 10.3 right now.

    OK, I asked the FTE team and got this reply: "Lucida Grande is CTS's fallback font for Thai.  This font on OS 10.7 and 10.6 are not supporting Thai anymore.  The version on 10.5 was supporting it." This means that it's our bug that we keep using Lucida Grande as fallback font even Apple dropped support Thai script with that font after 10.6. Unfortunately this bug was deferred from current development release (11.2) because of time constraint. If this support is critical for your business, can you open a bug in our public bugbase and ask as many vote as possible? In this way I may be able to convince internal team to fix this bug in next release.
    Thank you for your feedback!
