Problems installing Configuration Profile

We're deploying iPhones at the plant, and I'm trying to pre-configure them, using the iPhone Configuration Utility. I've created a couple of Configuration Profiles, but cant seem to get them to install. The test phone is an iPhone 4, running IOS 5.The phone has been activated by the carrier, but not configured. I'm running the Configuration Utility on an iMac, under OS X 10.6.8.
When I attach the iPhone, via the USB connector, it show up under devices. When I go to the Configuration Profiles tab and click the "Install" button for a Profile, either nothing happens or I get an error message saying "Invalid Profile". Haven't been able to find any useful help elsewhere on line, so hoping someone here has some wisdom for me.
Thanks,
Don

nothing concrete, sorry, however, this may help. it has worked for me...
1, wipe and restore the phone.
2, build a brand new config file and try installing that instead.

  • Installing Configuration Profile Fails

A configuration profile is required to install security certificates to iPad.
Created a configuration profile with iPhone Configuration Utility 2.2. Utility recognizes iPad, but clicking "Install" button on "Configuration Profiles" page does nothing (no error message, nothing). Sending the profile by Email to iPad gives "Mail Cannot Open This Attachment" error when opening configuration profile.
I have previously created and installed profiles successfully to iPhones and the profile created above works in iPhone (3.1.3).

Answering to my own question. I was able to create and install configuration profiles successfully by creating another user account in OS X and using that to install profiles.

  • Can't install configuration profile using iPhone Config Utility 3.5 and iPad iOS 5.1

Sorry for the long title, but...
I had a certificate expire in my configuration profile (that allows access to the Enterprise WiFi network). In the past, that means I go fetch a new certificate, install it into the configuration profile, attach the device to the computer via USB, and download that to the device. It's all good.
With iCU 3.5 and iOS 5.1, that all works fine until the last step. I hit the install button - nothing happens. Zilch. Nada, Zero. I happen to be a developer as well, so I have Xcode open and am watching the device console. Absolutely nothing happens on the device console.
What am I doing wrong? I can't believe that this is broken, and if it is broken I'm the first person to trip on it, so what's up?
(I did workaround this problem by exporting and sharing the configuration via email to the device and installing it from the attachment. That part still seems to work, and the profile itself also seems to work. The problem seems to be with iCU and downloading profiles.)
    Thanks for your help.

I ran into same problem. I think ithis might be your problem . This fixed mine I had settings already set and tried to install on new ipad and wouldn't work wouldn't do anything just set there I hit install and never did nothing. What I did was del the settings for configuration and re set them all over again and boom it's worked it works fine for me now. Hope this helps

  • Cannot install configuration profiles using iphone configuration utility, why?

I have several working configuration profiles, which I can distribute both via email and a website.
I'd like to install the profiles through the iPhone Configuration Utility, but I am not able to do so. The devices show up just fine in the list. When I choose the Configuration Profile tab and clicking the install-button on a profile (which will install fine via Email or website) in the list, nothing happens. Regardless of the device beeing out of the box, or activated via iTunes. What am I missing?
I have tried this on several iPad and iPad 2 devices with the latest (4.3.3) firmware installed.

    Hi,
I have the same problem. After creating profile with only General tab being set up it is failing to install on my iPad.
    Profile installation failed
The profile could not be added to device
    Any suggestions?
I even erase all content and setting but that didn't help either.
The only alarming thing is that in my Certificate section I have red message:
"This certificate was signed by and untrusted issuer"
    Can that effect installation?
If that is the case how to fixed it?
P.S. iPad was purchased from Apple Store.

  • Installing Configuration Profile via Web

We would like to implement some iPhones in the company.
We want more soon iphone `s roll-out and configuration transfer via USB is very cumbersome.
Can I device configuration automatically install on an iphone?
I read somewhere something about a Profile Web Service.
How can I use the web for automatic distribution of configuration profiles?
If so, where can I find extended tutorial or a script.
I have little knowledge of web + xml.
the enterprise deployment guide is very limited and generally

I create an iphone site with iwebkit. Its is very good kit to create high quality iphone sites. (iwebkit.net)
This site allows mobile users to download files.
It is perhaps a solution for other people with this problem.

  • Can't install configuration profile on iPad - "The profile ... could not be installed"

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a simple test MDM server.
    I'm using a Windows Server 2008 R2, and an iPad (iOS 5.01).
I set up a python based web server to accept requests in port 8080, installed an APNs certificate and created a configuration profile using IPCU with an MDM payload (and a VERISIGN credentials paylod to match it).
I have ports open to on the server (443, 1640, 2195 and 8080 where my server is listening).
I sent the configuration profile to myself, via email and tried installing it on my iPad.
    I got the response:
    Profile Failed to Install
The profile "MDM test profile" could not be installed.
Does anyone know what could be the problem here? What am I missing?
I have tried installing on an iPhone as well, same problem.
    Thanks,
    Tomer

    Try a clean re-install.
    * Download the setup file from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/RC (this is for the Firefox 4 release candidate)
    * Uninstall Firefox, do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data"
    * Delete the Firefox installation directory - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory
    * Re-install Firefox
This process does not remove the Firefox user data such as bookmarks and passwords which are stored elsewhere in the profile folder.
You may also need to manually reset the Software Update feature by deleting the software update files as shown in the "Software Update not working properly" section here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update

  • Problems with configuration profiles disappearing

So, I have inherited the task of joining our Macs to our Active Directory domain. To facilitate, and to get a handle on local profile vs network profile, I have joined the Macs in question to the domain, reassigned folder/file permissions to the network user, and all is relatively well.
However, most of our Mac users tend to use wireless, which can be difficult on network login at boot (granted the way Mac handles wifi connections at startup.) To handle *that*, I have used Apple Configurator to create a wifi profile that tells the Mac to load wifi at startup, and connect to the WPA2 WLAN we have for internal users with the supplied credentials and certificate. This profile works pretty well.
What I am running into is the following: On one Mac, I have found that if it it sleeps, it decides to have issues reconnecting to the wifi - this is usually cleared by either a reboot or preventing sleep (not the best options but they work). On several, I have this issue, which is more troubling:
The wireless profile just disappears. Users are unable to connect to wifi, and when looking in the Profiles, it's (now) completely blank. So, it would appear that something is removing/deleting the profile I have installed. This does *not* happen at boot/reboot, but seems to be (AFAICS) at random.
And there you have it – ever seen this?
What logs should I pull to see where/when/why this happens? Note: I have had this happen on one Mac more than once, and on another, only once thus far. The multiple incidents are on a Mac running 10.8.6  and the single incident is on one running 10.9.2.
Profile was created using Apple Configurator 1.5

    SolidWood --
A cert is indeed used, as this is the WPA2 Enterprise WiFi being used. The certificate in question is bundled into the Configurator package that gets pushed onto the Macs in question, and does indeed appear in the Keychain Access on the client machines. Additionally, the cert has not expired (expiration is 2017) - if indeed expired, my problems would be *much* larger than these Macs, as nearly every machine in the company uses the corp WiFi.
It's puzzling, as in one machine's case, I will push the config, it will work for days, and then without warning, the mobileconfig I added into Profiles is just...gone. I add it back, and all is well - but this is hardly an ideal situation.
I appreciate the response! I am just wondering now...where and which logs would, if at all, show me the drop/removal of the profile?

  • Cannot install configuration profile ipad 2

can not install profile using configuration utlity on ipda2. Worked on first iPad but no other iPad works.

Open iTunes, connect your iPad, click on the iPad in the left-hand column then check for updates.
iOS updates are free for iPads & iPhones. I think early ones for the iPod Touch were paid.

  • Problems installing/configuration Legato Storage Manager / 8i

I have installed Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on a Windows NT 4.0 EE platform.
For backups we use OEM and LSM.
When I insert a tape to backup my database, LSM will put this backup after the backup which is allready on tape.
For the backup we use 5 tapes (mo, tu, we, th, sa).
The tapes will rotate every week.
How can I make LSM to start the backup at the begin of the tape and not after the backup of the week before.
I think that's a very simple parameter within Legato, but which one??
If you have the solution, please let me know.

Thanks, but we solved it..JBoss ,running as a service on Windows 2003 server, tried to log on (with the credentials of the one that installed Office) but the service didn't have the right to do it..So it failed to start..If you change the rights for services from secpol.msc everything goes well..

  • Can I install more than one configurator profile

I want to develop 3 or maybe 4 layers of iPad iOS8 restrictions & Passcode rules.
For example ALL iPads will have enforced Passcode rules, but only SOME iPads ill require content filtering & SOME require Control centre in lock mode.
The actual working groups of iPads require a lot more complicated set of config elements - above is only an example.
I'd like to create & install different profiles & INSTALL MORE THAN ONE PROFILE.
I have tested this on a few iPads & it seems to work.
My question is - Is this the recommended way / is there a problem if i install more that one profile ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kind Regards
    George kennedy.

We install many configuration profiles on each of our devices. We only use one payload per configuration profile so that we can be very granular with our configurations. What I don't know is what would happen if you installed 2 configuration profiles with conflicting restrictions (i.e. one configuration profile allows Messages, and another does not allow Messages). We just make sure we install only one restrictions configuration profile, and then a bunch of other configuration profiles (mail and calendar settings, web clips, WiFi profiles, etc) on each device.
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot install APN configurations profile for H2O data network

I am helping a friend of mine with his new unlocked iPhone he got from apple. It is not Jailbroken. In order to get to the data network, he has to install a profile to setup the APN configurations. The phone refuses to install because their can only be one APN configurations profile at a time. This issue should be solved by removing any old profiles that may cause the conflict. The problem is that there are no other profiles installed on the phone at all. In fact, I couldn't even make the profile option show up before installing another profile.
I read in the internet that sometimes, if you update your phone the system may hide any old profiles it doesn't like. Is this true? If it is, is there away to remove the hidden profiles without doing a full reset to the device and wipe everything I have in there?
    iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.2

    Hello,
you don't need to sign the MDM profile with the APNS-certificate, and to my best knowledge you shouldn't even do it. The APNS-certificate is solely for the purpose of authenticate the MDM-commands your server sends to Apple's Push notification service.
The installed MDM-profile on your device can be unsigned or signed with a SSL-webservercertificate from one of the trusted standard-CAs like Verisign or Thawte.
You should make sure that your MDM-server either delivers it unsigned (which is failsafe and works) or upload a trusted SSL-certificate (together with the private key, usually in .PFX-format) for this task.
One of the initial obstacle in Apple-MDM is to understand which classes of certificate are required and to understand their respective purpose.
    Best regards,

  • Apple configurator and ios 6.1 cannot install config profile

I'm using the Apple Configurator v1.2.1 to install my enterprise app into iPad 2's. First of all, I am unable to upgrade from iOS 6.0.1 to 6.1.2. It either fails or gets stuck and I have to "stop". My work around is to upgrade via the device (which is actually pretty fast). My big problem is that I am also installing provisioning and configuration profiles, which include files for the app. Every things seems to go ok, the app and all the data installs properly, so does the profisioning profile, until the end where the configurator tells me to "tap device to install profile" but the profile prompt never appears on the iPad. The iPad goes into setup as if it's a new iPad and the config profile nevers gets installed. I do get a warning saying it can't install the profile. I'm forced to update the configuration manually. I'm updating about a dozen each time, so it's starting to get tedious as well as error-prone. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Use whatever method you wish to update iOS
    Go though,the setup as needed
Then try apple Configurator to install your profiles
From memory updating iOS with apple Configurator
Causes the setup to run like a new device the same if you used iTunes to update
As the complete OS is installed
However it will only download iOS once, providing all your devices are the same
Updating iOS on the device still has a setup but it's only for iCloud
And you'd have to download the (smaller) update each time
I would think it is the iOS update and setup that's causing your profiles etc
to fail there maybe to much going on at the same time

  • MMS fails on iPhone 5 with AT&T when APN configuration profile installed

Installing a configuration profile containing APN information to the new AT&T iPhone 5 results in breaking the capability to send or receive MMS messages through the Messages app on the device. This is for MMS (Multimedia Messaging) and not iMessage (that works fine).
This happens regardless whether the device is on LTE mode or on 3G mode.
The configuration profile we are using has APN information and proxy settings for this APN as well (proxy host and port information). However, the problem happens even if the profile contains just APN without any proxy settings info.
This happens on iPhone 5 ONLY (commercially available through AT&T). This is important to note because iPhone 4S with iOS 6 DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
This problem happened last year too when iPhone4S was introduced. But it was fixed later.

yes, sir, without the profile, everyhting is fine on the 5, that is MMS and VVM.
This is really what confuses us over here too. We thought it was the proxy itself. So we took it out and created a very simple profile with just APN, no proxy, nothing else. MMS and VVM would still not work on the iphone5. But data (browser and apps) still worked fine.
Are you aware of the iOS 6 issue I also brought up in this forum, where removing an APN/proxy config profile actually leaves the proxy settings behind (even though the profile itself is removed)?
Well, if I remove my APN/proxy config profile on the iphone 5, the proxy settings are still there, as I can see browser and apps data still going through my proxy (even though my profile is gone). But check this out: MMS and VVM now work (despite the apparent presence of the proxy)!! This is actually our workaround at the moment, using another problem to our advantage.
I think all this shows something is wrong here.

  • Configuration profile won't install

    Dear all,
I try to install a new Exchange configuration profile using Safari to be able to synchronize my ipod with my company's email and agenda (Lotus Traveler). The configuration profile is downloaded by Safari but the "Install profile screen" doesn't show up as it should do. I'm stuck on a web page with an empty square (representing a file I guess) and the name of the configuration file below. If I click on the file, nothing happens.
This happens since I installed the application called "Files Lite" to be able to store all kinds of documents in my ipod touch. At first, I was proposed to open the configuration profile with "Files Lite", which I didn't want. So I uninstalled "Files Lite" but now, I can't even open the configuration file. I guess Files Lite didn't clean up everything.
Did anybody experience this kind of problem ? Do you have any suggestion ?
    Thanks

"Files Lite"'s support team says it's something they had not planned in their software. A new version should be published soon on itunes solving this issue.
I personnaly found a workaround by uninstalling "Files Lite" PLUS another soft, "FileMap", which was in fact the origin of my problems ! Once all these files handlers uninstalled, I could install the configuration profile without any problem.

  • Apple Configurator Can't install app configuration profile bug?

    Hey all-
We currently use configurator to maintain 30 new ipads. We have updated the IOS on these devices to 6 and now whenever we install a configuration profile blocking people from installing their own app or in app purchases we get a "Can't install app" error message as part of the refresh process. I understand I am using configurator with a drastically changed device and the profile part of configurator hasn't been updated yet. As of right now the only workflow I have found that works is to
    1.) Unsupervice the device
    2.) Resupervise it
    3.) Reinstall apps
4.)Install the configuration profile blocking app purchases.
I have to do this any time I want to do application updates...
Anybody else runing in to this problem?

    Ryan,
I loan all of our ipads on a 4 day basis and I never have them all back at the same time to do that type of sweeping change. Before IOS 6 came out I could have changes waiting for an ipad to be returned and they would take effect then. Now if I update an app for one all of the other ipads we plug in will fail (If I'm not here when they are returned). This is a problem apple needs to fix and not something simple I can work around.
I've pretty much just stopped updating apps but once every month or so till this gets resolved.
