Problems monitoring audio with a m-audio Firewire 410 card

So I have a M-Audio 410 hooked up through the firewire port on my G5, But it geeks out (audio turns to loud noise, strange defects, spinning ball of slowness appears) everytime I try to monitor audio out of final cut, also when I play LARGE quicktime files!!! The card works fine for all other applications I have on my mac, Cubase, iTunes etc... Anyone else have heard of this, or know what to try. I have most of my video on an external drive, a LACIE media drive, which is my only option as I am working with large amounts of video.
I am thinking this is an issue with the bandwith of firewire on the computer. Maybe too much information between the audio card, and accessing the drive through the other firewire port. Any thoughts?

Hello, I was just about to post the following when I saw your recent post, Wondering if you ever found a solution for what you're running into? (BTW, I went to UO a looooong time ago. Go Ducks!)
We'd like enhance the audio end of our edit suite and are thinking of adding an "FireWire 410" from m-audio for I/O. And ProTools.
But we've read here and there in forums that there may be a problem with Firewire I/O (and maybe the m-audio "FireWire 410" in particular?) and confusion with decks like the DSR-11, etc. Disturbs the video on an external broadcast monitor.
One note: we don't think we'd necessarily be sending audio from the DSR-11 to the "FireWire 410" (and on to headphones and speakers) via firewire.
Anyone out there using FCP and the "FireWire 410" who could comment?
Thanks,
Brad

  • Record streaming audio with XFI Xtreme Audio C

    I just got a new pc with this card and unfortunately it has no what u hear or stereo? mix record option.Can I loop the Digital output device(SPDIF) into the Digital input device(SPDIF) to record streaming audio? I can't install a different card because it will void my extended warranty. Thanks

    I had no trouble recording "what you hear" streaming audio with my extreme audio (pcie). If you are using the same card I'll walk you through it, if you're using the pci version, take a look to see if it's the same and try it. Open Creative console launcher (by clicking the icon in the system tray), select the mixer, find the record ("rec") slider, (on my console it's on the far right) click the little triangle in the box at the top of the slider, select "what u hear", open creative mediasource, hit record, and start the streaming audio.

  • Sync audio with multi camera audio mistaken

    Hello everyone, i really need big help. It's not an adobe issue. propably it's my fault.
    So, here's the deal. I edit a music concert. I've been given the original audio footage and i used 3 cameras.
    Even though with synchronize option i synchronized each one with the original audio while i'm editing it seems like after a while it's unsynchronized. Any idea please? i've spent lot of hours doing it separately but it always losing synchronization.
    Thank you all, in advance.
    I've noticed that while the audio is in 44100hz camera settings are in 48000hz. i tried to convert the audio but finally it didn't worked.

    It seems fairly normal for separately recorded audio to drift out of sync on longer shots.  I'm not entirely clear why camera makers can get all their cameras to sync perfectly with each other, even across manufacturers, yet audio recorders have such a hard time with this.  But...they do.
    The solution is to find out by trial and error what percentage your device is off, and then apply that change to the audio clip.  I had a recorder that needed to be speed adjusted to 100.04% in PP for the audio to remain in sync, so I applied that to every audio clip from that recorder.

  • Firewire audio with jack, route audio to card?

    Hi
    I hooked up my focusrite saffire 24 pro to my p150em and managed to get qjackcontrol to show that it is connected with 48khz sample rate and the green light is lit up on my saffire. So that's good.
    I then tried listening to sounds from various programs, mpg123, cmus and google-chrome (youtube) but encountered errors like "connection refused" from audio server. So I installed alsa-plugins and configured jack to use alsa. Now I can hear things again, but of course, only through my intel soundcard and not the fw saffire!
    I figured maybe I could open alsamixer and choose saffire as my soundcard? But it's not there.
    How to I route the audio through the saffire?
    Best regards,
    Love

    I have a very cheap C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6 6-channel sound card connected by three jacks to Logitech 5.1 speakers. I also have a headset for Skype connected to the onboard sound.
    Here's what I know:
    1) To always get the sound card module to load before the onboard sound module, I have added snd_cmipci to my "modules" list in /etc/rc.conf. This means the cmi card is always card 0, the module for the onboard sound gets loaded automatically later.
    2) I have ~.asoundrc as follows:
    # 6 channel dmix:
    pcm.dmix6 {
    type dmix
    ipc_key 1024
    ipc_key_add_uid false
    ipc_perm 0660

    # upmixing:

    3) To allow amarok to play each speaker individually using a 6 channel DTS .wav file I added the following to my ~.xine/config
    audio.device.alsa_surround51_device:plughw:0,1
    4) You can download a 60MB 6-channel DTS test file here. It is in swedish but tests each speaker individually.

  • Record audio with labview and audio dataplugin

    The thing I would like to do, is write waveforms to WAV/wma/mp3 files.
    The way to do this, is probably with the help of the audio data plugin.
    However, it is far from clear how to configure and use this plugin with LabView. There is documentation available for DIAdem, but what good is that to me, as a simple LabView user?
    There is also an example for reading dataPlugin data with LabView, but this example is:
    A) not working, e.g. it cannot open a simple WAV file, when using "uspAudio" as DataPlugin Name
    B) not documented
    C) not handeling errors
    D) only reading, not writing, which is slightly more complicated.
    So, tips for writing waveform to audio files and/or
    tips for working with dataPlugins in LabView would be welcome...

    Ok, so, now I can read a WAV/WMA/mp3 file, see attached VI
    There's still one problem: writing data to a WAV/WMA/mp3 file. In my "DataPlugin Write Audio File.vi" I try to read from / listen to a microphone connected to a AD card. On the Waveform graph, I see my signal correctly, but in the WAV file, there is only a flat line (zero's).
    Perhaps it is needed to add properties to the group, but I don't know which properties to add...
    All advice is appreciated...

  • Replace audio with separately recorded audio and sink it with video and original audio

    I have recorded the audion with a high quality digital recorder.  How do I replace the audion taken with my video camera?  and make sure it is in sink with the video.

    Once you have followed Steve's steps, to adjust the sync perfectly, see this article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/436751?tstart=120
    Now, some users have found that their cameras, and their separate audio recorders do not sync 100%. With today's technology, they certainly should, but camera and recorder companies do not see to care, so leave the task to the editor. One user found that his Zoom recorder was about 0.06% slower than his Panasonic cameras, by trial and error, and critical listening. This was a constant sync error. To correct, he changes the speed of the Audio 1.04%, with Maintain Pitch checked - then it is always perfect. If you find that you cannot maintain perfect sync, explore speed settings for the Audio. If the recorder is a high-quality, the OOS (Out Of Sync) should be constant, and when you find the correction, it should be the same for all projects, so the trial and error should pay dividends.
    Good luck,

  • Problem monitoring server with Azure

    Hi,
    I'm using Application Insights to monitor one application on Windows Azure, I've followed all the instructions and installed and configured Monitoring Agend on the machine, everything seems fine, but no data was generated about the server! I verifyed the
    connections on the URLs f5.services.visualstudio.com,dc.services.visualstudio.com and can connect by telnet normally, I've checked the Event Viewer but nothing! Anyone can help me please?

    Hi Anastasia,
    First of all, very thanks for your help, I verified the web.config and the keys are the same on Azure Portal, I founded the module below on the web.config:
      <system.webServer>
        <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">
          <remove name="ApplicationInsightsWebTracking"/>
          <add name="ApplicationInsightsWebTracking"
            type="Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.Extensibility.Web.RequestTracking.WebRequestTrackingModule, Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.Extensibility.Web"
            preCondition="managedHandler"/>
        </modules>
        <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false"/>
      </system.webServer>
    I've comment the lines below in web.config because was breaking my application, but if I uncomment no result too and application breaks:
          <!--<dependentAssembly>
            <assemblyIdentity name="System.Runtime" publicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a" culture="neutral"/>

          </dependentAssembly>-->
    In the Azure portal I can see some diagnostics as Page Viewes and Exceptions.
    I can use Fiddler, I just need some time to learn about and use in homologation environment first.
    Update:
    I installed the same web application on my machine and works perfectly, with the same web.config with the keys commented, I runned fiddler on both machines, in my workstation everthing is fine, but in server I can't capture events related to azure, maybe...
    the requests its not working.

  • M-Audio FireWire 410 and FCP Studio 2

    Here is something that I've learned and would like to share.
    I have a M-Audio firewire device to record with Logic Pro. I have the latest driver and set my sample rate at 48 KHZ to be friendly to FCP6. But when editing and monitoring my video/audio thru my Sony HDV deck all the sequences and clips are sped up that indicates a sample rate issue. Monitoring audio thru the Firewire 410 is ok. My workaround is to disconnect the M-Audio device when editing video and use it only when scoring. So if you have this problem don't pull your hair out and start trashing pref files. Either monitor thru the M-Audio device or simply unplug it. If anybody else has any insight on this I would like to hear it.

    Perhaps you have a firewire bus issue as noted in this thread:

    I got the answer talking to m-audio. There is a conflict when you connect two firewire devices to the same bus (two firewire jacks can be on the same bus). 2 solutions.
    1. get a firewire card on a PCI slot, and assign the 410 to that.
    2. daisy chain the hard drive to the back of the 410 and DONT plug any other firewire devices into your mac.

  • Clicks & synch loss on firewire sound card (not due to sound card!)

    Bonjour, from France !
    Ok my firewire port does work when it has to mount a drive.
    But it really makes the biggest mess in the universe when it comes down to streaming audio data to my external firewire sound card, a t.c. electronic konnekt 8. Ok ok I see you guys comming with the "read the notice of your soundcard you idiot" answers ! But it's not just me. My brother has a firewire m-audio audio interface on his intel iMac (first generation) and he is having the same mess, and a friend also had another m-audio firewire model and had the same problems. Of course, drivers are up to date.
    The problems are : mainly random clicks and sound gaps when playing audio, sometimes lasting a few seconds - sometimes loss of synchronisation leading to strong sound degradation.
    So my question is : this issue is obviously a general (mac ?) firewire related issue as several configurations have experienced it. Does anyone out there know how i could fix it ?
    Thanx for your time,
    Michael

    All I can say I've got the same problems...
    I've got a Saffire Pro 26 I/O and it was rock solid on my Powerbook, even with a FW400 drive daisy chained and recording 10 tracks at once.
    The same interface on my Macbook Pro and Mac Pro is constantly crackling, losing sync etc.
    It's also much more sensitive to FW harddrives sucking the bus dry on my Intel Macs.
    I've got the same sort of problems with my Line6 USB devices (Toneport, PODxt, PODxt Pro) on both Intel Macs, although they were rock-solid on my Powerbook. (and I'm always using up-to-date drivers).
    It's as if Apple dropped the ball with the new USB and Firewire chipsets on the Intel motherboards.
    If anybody knows of a nice firewire interface that won't go flaky on the new Intel Macs (and can handle 8 channels of ADAT I/O) let me know

  • Trouble monitoring output with M-Audio FireWire 410

    I just got a new iMac Core Duo and plugged in my M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface to run with Garageband 3. Changed input/output settings, input seems fine and output too, even the 410 is flashing its output lights... but I cannot hear any monitoring of real instruments or software instruments on the FireWire 410. I've tried different headphones, adapters, and I know the jacks work because I also use the 410 with Cubase on another Mac. I suppose this is more a problem with the M-Audio FireWire 410 than with Garageband 3... but does anyone have any suggestions?
    iMac Intel Core Due   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
    I have a similar problem related to the output of the M-AUdio FireWire 410.
    Ive being using m-audio firewire 410 (driver version 1.7.2) together with a MacBook Pro (2GHz Intel Core Duo, OSX 10.4.7) since a couple of months without having any problem. But the last week my computer had an "unexpected problem" and I had to shut it down using the power button while garageband and itunes were working. After I restarted it again, I realized that even if I get a signal on the sw rtn 1/2 when I use itunes or Garageband, I get no signal on any of the assigned output buses. The funny thing is that when I use an analog input, I actually get signal on the assigned output bus. I uninstalled and reinstalled again the drivers of the m-audio 410 firewire without any success.
    I would really appreciate any comments.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rodrigo

  • Monitoring Issue with firewire device (M-Audio) HELP

    Essentially I am trying to hear my music track while recording live audio. I'm using my M-Audio Firewire 410 with Soundtrack Pro. This device seems to work fine with FCP, but in STP I am unable to monitor properly. I am getting input fine, but am not getting output into my firewire device. (I have selected this device as my output device, therefore STP does recognize it)
    I have updated drivers. I'm running the new 5.x crossgrade on Tiger. What am I doing wrong? I've toggled every button possible!
    JCB123

    When you are going to record, the Recording panel pops up (with the level meter, etc). Make sure that, in the Monitor section, the correct soundcard is selected and the "Mute Project" button is not selected. That should solve it.

  • PROBLEMS WITH INPUT (M-AUDIO AND LOGIC)

    I cant seem to get an answer for this question?I have a powermac G5 2.3Ghz,im using an m-audio firewire 410,with logic pro 7.My previous system was a powerbook G4 older model 667Mgz,I was using logic 4.8.1 on os9 with the 410,and i didnt have this problem at all.My issue is no matter what i plug in to the 410's input my signal starts to clip even when the input knob is very low.I have tried bass,guitar,vocals etc.I cant figure it out.My 410 controls my signal before it get's to the digital domain,so i really dont know what to do,because if my signal is this hot before it gets to the G5,what can i do?

    I plugged a normal electric guitar in the front panel of the 410,which is where i always plug my guitars in.If i turn down the input knob it doesn't clip or distort.But i have to turn the knob down almost all the way,same thing with my bass and both instruments dont have active electronics.The other thing i do is apply the pad button,then i could turn the knob up to atleast 10:00.Someone told me that the preamp's dont start to kick in,untill you have the input knob at around 2:00.Why didn't i have this issue with my older powerbook G4?I also updated the drivers on the 410,to the latest one.Funny,now when i try to hook up the 410 to my powerbook G4,it makes all these strange sounds,like the music is going through a crazy effects processor?Do you think updating the drivers did something?I didn't change anything on my old powerbook G4 at all,but like i said as soon as i hook up the 410,the exact same way i originally did,it plays music back in a strange way,almost like it is going through a filter.But when i hook it up to the G5,it goes back to normal?Im confused,any ideas?

  • M-audio firewire 410 audio track problem....

    Hi there, I am a newbie to Logic Express 7. Step up from Garageband they said - it's easy they said... yeah right!
    My problem is this - I bought a firewire 410 to use with LE7. Firewire 410 has 4 inputs. LE7 will only let me create 4 audio tracks. If I try to create more, it just "mirrors" an existing audio track, making it unusable. In garageband, using just 1 input (line in) I could layer up as many audio tracks as I liked. Now, after spending all this money (the quality is better, but) I have what amounts to a 4-track recorder! I am probably just being dumb, I mean that can't be true, can it? Anyone else had this problem?
    thanks in advance for putting me out of my misery...

    I found the answer! Create multiple.. in the track sub-menu. This creates new audio objects as well as tracks. Problem solved.

  • M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard problem on Windows on new iMac

    I've had this problem since I got the new iMac. When running Windows natively, with all Boot Camp 2.0 (same with the older Boot Camp) drivers installed and the latest drivers for my M-Audio Firewire 410 for Windows XP Pro, I haven't been able to use the sound card at all. Everything installs perfectly, the control panel works, but the hardware won't respond to any sound playback. I'm not sure if it's the Boot Camp drivers for my iMac or if it's my interface. It worked fine through Boot Camp with my MacBook Pro, but not the new Aluminum iMac. Using it with Ableton Live 6/7 fails. Playing it from iTunes fails. Everything fails. My interface is basically rendered useless on Windows. I believe it's an iMac + Boot Camp problem, not the interface. Audio program forums didn't help, so I cam here. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

    from M-audio...
    M-Audio does not support Boot Camp on Intel based Macs at this time.
    The problem is that there is no BIOS on Mac Intel systems and getting devices to work on some XP systems requires BIOS/OS tweaks. Boot Camp works around the need for BIOS; Windows does not. Windows installations are not always consistent and the fact it works on one Intel Mac does not mean it will work on another.
    Attempting to install any M-Audio device or drivers in Boot Camp is done solely at the user’s own risk.
    Here is a website that has many troubleshooting tips that can help get devices to work on XP and MAY work for Boot Camp; however this is all done at the users own risk.
    http://www.pcaudiolabs.com/setuptips1.asp?cat=setu
    For M-Audio FireWire devices:
    Switching from Mac to PC the FireWire device may not always load the firmware properly. To get the PC firmware to load you may have to boot into XP then shut down, disconnect, reconnect and reboot. Switching from PC to Mac automatically loads the correct firmware.
    If this workaround does not fix your issue, you will have to run the device solely on Mac OS or on Windows hardware.
