Problems scrolling through large audio files

Hi,
i purchased a "2nd Gen. iPod Nano"; "firmware ver. 1.0.1".
Now i have a problem with "scrolling" through large audio files. I have uncut 3 hours files and when i want to scroll to a position that is more to the the end of the file, it either lags for like 2-5 sec. until it starts to play from that position, or, what happens more frequently, it stops playing altogether and sets me back to the "music" menu.
In itunes, everything plays fine.
Did anyone have the same problem, or knows a solution? maybe a firmware update (yet to come) will solve this? hmm...

Hi,
A week or two ago I read PC Magazine's article regarding the new Nano, and this issue was listed specifically.
Here's the link to the article:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2015761,00.asp
If you read the editorial note updated 9.27.06, you'll see that firmware version 1.02 corrects this problem:
"Editor's Note: Apple has released iPod nano software 1.0.2 on 9/27/06, which fixes the bug (noted in my review) that caused problems when scrubbing through long VBR-encoded MP3 files."

    How can I move large audio files from my iPhone 4S (IOS7) to my iMac (OSX 10.5.8)?
    I can not use:

    - image transfer program (will not work with audio files)...

    Is there any cable that will work? Can I modify my iPhone? Is it possible to move back from iOS7 to iOS6?
    This is kind of a big issue for me because I make long interviews with my iPhone but now I do not know how to move the files from my iPhone to my iMac for editing and pubishing.
    All ideas are welcome (except buy a new iMac)! Thanks in advace!

    You cannot use the iPhone unless you have the previous owners AppleID & password.
    See this -> Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
    Sounds like you need to change your process when you buy used iPhones.

  • Trying to split one large audio file into tracks

    Hi;
    Awhile ago I mistakenly imported a CD into iTunes, as one large audio file, containing all 10 tracks. Now I'd like to know how to split this file back into it's separate tracks, and re-import into iTunes.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA.

    MP3 editor is a lossless editor for MP3 files.
    -> Fission, will do lossles editing of AIFF, WAV, MP3, AAc and Apple Lossless.
    You can do it yourself but the songs will be re-encoded (not lossless) but may not be a big deal.
    On the song, right click - get info. Click the Options tab and set the Start-Stop times for the first song.
    Then select the song, menu Advanced - Create AAC version {or whatever is selected in iTunes prefs -General - Importing}.
    This will create a new copy of the song between the time markers. Select the new song, righ click - get info and update the song title.
    Then on the original song, set Start-Stop times for the second song and menu Advanced - Create AAC version the for the 2nd song.
    Do this for all the songs in the original file.

  • Cut large audio file by duration

    ok so what i am trying to do is take a large audio file, over 6 hours, and cut it down into many 10-15min files.  i know i could manually just cut out what i dont want then save as a new mp3 a lot of times, but is there a way to set audition to do this automatically?  i cant seem to find a way.

    Now that you've placed the markers, can't you just swap the audio file in the multitrack project and reuse the same markers?
    If that's no good, I used Audacity (a free program) to do this recently : http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
    load up your file,
    create a text file in the simple format
    seconds <tab> marker name, e.g. for 10 minute files:
    0  marker 1
    600  marker 2
    1200  marker 3
    1800  marker 4
    Then in audacity go project > import labels, File > export multiple.
    The issue you might have is using mp3's in audacity. If you do want to use it, there's a solution here:
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3
    or you could convert to wave before cutting the files up (but that would be a big old file, and I'm not sure how well it would be handled)

  • Large Audio file: desire to cut it into tracks. pls. recommed util software

    have a large audio file which needs to be cutted into the different tracks; also to match it with cddb database. can someone recomend a simple piece of software? in garage band it takes me hours.. thank you!

    If you want to try out a free open source audio editor you could have a look at this: Audacity
    I use Sound Studio as I record a lot from vinyl, it's very user friendly but it's a commercial program. If you are only doing occasional edits it's probably not an economical option: Sound Studio

  • Large Audio Files Skip on Resume from Bookmark

    For years I have been making large audio recordings using Audio Hijack Pro, importing them to iTunes, and listening to them on my various iPods. My current iPod is a 5.5gen, 80 GB unit. The records are AAC, 128kpbs, Stero, Bookmarkable, with a Silence Monitor = Remove (Analog). The files are about 6 hours long (just short of that because of occasional small silences) and about 300 MB (301.4 MB for example).
    If I listen to the track straight through, no problem. If I pause it, let the iPod sleep, resume it, no problem. If I pause it, and "go away from the track" then come back to the track and rely on the bookmark to resume playing in the right place I have my problem. Specifically, after listening for about 1 minute the track abruptly ends, and the next track starts. Incidentally, this does increment the track play count. Earlier I said "go away from the track", some examples of that are: 1) play another track, 2) sync the iPod.
    I assume this has something to do with the iPod's cache.
    I have tried a few workarounds... for example, once I resume using the bookmark I have tried scrubbing backwards or forwards a few seconds or a few minutes in an attempt to reload the cache... to no avail.
    If the bookmarked location is near the beginning of the track, approximately the first 15 minutes, it does not skip and will play through just fine. Also, every one in a while it will work later in the track. In this case, "every once in a while" is something like 1 out of 50 times.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    I have exactly the same problem.
    I have a number of long audio recordings - ranging from 5 to 16 hours in length. All are encoded as M4A. When resuming any of them it seems completely random as to whether they will start at the bookmark, or will immediately skip and increment the play count.
    I haven't found any reliable workaround to ensure they start.

  • Performance Problem in parsing large XML file (15MB)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to parse a large XML file(15 MB) and facing a clear performance problem. A Simple XML Validation using the following code snippet:
    DBMS_LOB.fileopen(targetFile, DBMS_LOB.file_readonly);
    DBMS_LOB.loadClobfromFile
    tempCLOB,
    targetFile,
    DBMS_LOB.getLength(targetFile),
    dest_offset,
    src_offset,
    nls_charset_id(CONSTANT_CHARSET),
    lang_context,
    conv_warning
    DBMS_LOB.fileclose(targetFile);
    p_xml_document := XMLType(tempCLOB, p_schema_url, 0, 0);
    p_xml_document.schemaValidate();
    is taking 30 mins on a HP-UX (4GB ram, 2 CPU) machine (Oracle version : 9.2.0.4).
    Please explain what could be going wrong.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Vineet

    Thanks Mark,
    I'll open a TAR and also upload the schema and instance XML.
    If i'm not changing the track too much :-) one more thing in continuation:
    If i skip the Schema Validation step and directly insert the instance document into a Schema linked XMLType table, what does OracleXDB do in such a case?
    i'm getting a severe performance hit here too... the same file as above takes almost 40 mins to Insert.
    code snippet:
    DBMS_LOB.fileopen(targetFile, DBMS_LOB.file_readonly);
    DBMS_LOB.loadClobfromFile
    tempCLOB,
    targetFile,
    DBMS_LOB.getLength(targetFile),
    dest_offset,
    src_offset,
    nls_charset_id(CONSTANT_CHARSET),
    lang_context,
    conv_warning
    DBMS_LOB.fileclose(targetFile);
    p_xml_document := XMLType(tempCLOB, p_schema_url, 0, 0);
    -- p_xml_document.schemaValidate();
    insert into INCOMING_XML values(p_xml_document);
    Here table INCOMING_XML is :
    TABLE of SYS.XMLTYPE(XMLSchema "http://INCOMING_XML.xsd" Element "MatchingResponse") STORAGE Object-
    relational TYPE "XDBTYPE_MATCHING_RESPONSE"
    This table and type XDBTYPE_MATCHING_RESPONSE were created using the mapping provided in the registered XML Schema.

  • Problem with sending large HTML files as attachment using JavaMail 1.2

    Hi dear fellows, i am currently working on posting Emails with attachments using JavaMail 1.2. i succeeded in sending many mimetypes of files as attachments except for .htm and .html files. when large HTML files (say, >100 kB) serve as attachements, the mail is posted on mail server, but not properly posted since only the first small part of the file is writted into mail server but the latter part of the attachment file is missing.
    is that a bug of JavaMail??? are there any fellows encountering similar problem as i did??? any suggestions for me to proceed? hopefully i made myself clear...
    Many thanks in advance,
    Fatty

    i've sort of found the cause for that, it is because when the stream write to the mail server, unfortunately there is a "." in a single line. so the server refuse to take any more inputs.
    so do i have to remove all the "." in the file manually to avoid this disaster? any suggestions??

  • ICal problem scrolling through all-day events

    Not quite sure how to describe this but making easy to understand.
    I organise my daily events using iCal on my mac and sync them to my iphone running the latest iphone updated software. I place all my things to do as an all-day event and at present has 21 events in there.
    The phone scrolls through events no problem when I don't have a lot of events in the all-day event part but when I try to look at for example todays events with 21 items at the all-day part at the top it won't let me scroll and only shows 14 events instead of the 21?
    Any ideas?

    This appeared to be a timezone issue, when daylight savings time came around the iPod and iCal dates synchronized correctly.

  • Importing large audio file. HOw do I expand 'measure' limit?

    I can import the large WAV file no problem. My problem is I cannot listen to it all because the default 'measure' limit is somewhere in the 200's and the imported file is significantly longer than that. I can drag it at the top to be as long as I like but this takes a long time to manually drag it out to be longer. There got to be an easier way to do this. ANy help would be great.

    The actual figure from the manual is "8550 quarter notes, or about 2158 bars in 4/4 time".
    Whatever the time signature or tempo, the limiting factor is the number of quarter notes — 8550 of them. So if your file would extend over more quarter notes than that at the current tempo, then adjust the tempo to be as low as is necessary to give you the duration you require.

  • Problem with parsing large xml files

    Hello All,
    I am parsing a large xml file of 20MB and I use DocumentBuilder.parse(File). This method works for small xml files with size less than 20MB but the application hangs and doesn't through any error message when parsing 20MB xml files. Please let me know what I have to do at this point ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kumar.

    Well... i can't agree.
    If you have such structure:
    <task>
      <task/>
      <task>
         <task>
            <task/>
         </task>
         <task/>
      </task>
    </task>
    ...you may always keep stack of tasks (at startElement push to top, and at endElement pop), so at every leaf of tree you will have all parents of that leaf.
    for such structure:
    <task id="1" parent="0"/>
    <task id="2" parent="1"/>
    <task id="3" parent="1"/>
    <task id="4" parent="2"/>
    <task id="5" parent="3"/>
    ...it will be much faster to go thro document by sax several times to build tree of tasks, than to load all document into memory...

  • Problem with parsing large XML files chunked over HTTP

    I'm trying to isolate a bug that was introduced when upgrading the JRE in use from Java 7u51 to 7u71 without changing any code. The problem appears to be very similar to: Bug ID: JDK-8027359 XML parser returns incorrect parsing results.
    Further investigation showed that it was also introduced in the same versions (7u71) where that fix was applied. Unlike that bug though, my XML is marked as version 1.0. It also appears to be with only large XML files, on the order of 10MB or so.
    The closest I've been able to narrow it down to is the code is using JAXB to unmarshall a stream that the debugger tells me is a org.apache.http.com.EofSensorInputStream / org.apache.http.impl.io.ChunkedInputStream. The exception I get is not consistent, but typically appears to be from chunks being overwritten or shuffled, resulting in letters appearing in attributes that are actually numbers, or like the following where an attribute "testAttribute" gets partially overwritten by the end of a timestamp that was in a different section of the XML.
    javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException
    - with linked exception:
    [javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: ParseError at [row,col]:[1,98748]

      at com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.runtime.unmarshaller.UnmarshallerImpl.unmarshal0(UnmarshallerImpl.java:355)
      ... 6 more
    Here's some code that seems to reproduce it if you can connect to an XML server that returns a large chunked XML file:
      SchemeRegistry registry = new SchemeRegistry();
      registry.register(
                    new Scheme("http", 80, PlainSocketFactory.getSocketFactory()));
      HttpClient client = new DefaultHttpClient(new BasicClientConnectionManager(registry));
      String url = "http://someUrlReturningAlargeChunkedXML";
      HttpGet method = new HttpGet(url);
      HttpResponse response = client.execute(method);
      InputStream inputStream = response.getEntity().getContent();
      XMLStreamReader responseReader = factory.createXMLStreamReader(inputStream);
      JAXBElement<JaxBObjectOfResponse> wot = unmarshaller.unmarshal(responseReader, JaxBObjectOfResponse.class);
    If you connect using URL.openStream() to the same service there is no error. If I read bytes directly and write to a file, there is no error. The error only happens when I try to unmarshal it, and it's large, and I'm using Java 7u71 (or later). It can be consistently repeated with the jsp webapp that I'm using, but didn't show the error when I used the same code with a Wikipedia dump XML file.
    How can I unmarshal in a different way to avoid this problem? Or, how can I better isolate the bug so it can be posted to the appropriate bug system?

    Apparently, adding the Woodstox XML libraries avoids the bug. Is there anyone who can reproduce this on another system? Was there any changes to the Stax implementation between u67 and u71 that may have introduced a bug like this?
    Edit: When setting the logging level to DEBUG, I once saw the overwritten buffer being logged as if that was what was received (as in the testAttribu00Z example above). I can't repeat that anymore though, and very rarely it does parses with no exception (though it may have still been corrupted). Now the error seems to be consistently on one of the buffer boundaries, as in:
