Problems Transfering Purchased Music

I'm having a problem transfering my purchases from my iPod to iTunes. My last computer crashed, so using it is not an option. I've authorized my new computer, but each time I try and transfer, it still says the it is not authorized. Any suggestions?

Not sure what the problem is--but you're trying to take things from your iPod back to your new computer setup, correct?
Do any of these articles/posting help?

  • Can anyone help with a problem transferring purchased music PC to mac?

I have recently moved from a PC to a macbook pro, and have previously purchased 10 or so albums from iTunes store that quite happily updated to my iPod so that I could play them.
I used iPodutil to transfer all of my music to my new mac iTunes library, reformatted my iPod for my mac, but on syncing to get all of the songs from my mac back onto my iPod, find that "these songs were purchased for another computer, and cannot therefore be downloaded to your iPod". Essentially everything that I have (ironically) legally paid for through iTunes refuses to download to my iPod because it is not the original PC I purchased them on??
Does anyone have a fix for this, or is the "switch" from PC to mac going to deny me my favourite and legally purchased tracks?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Have you authorized your Mac to the iTunes Store account under which you purchased these tracks? If not, you need to do so, either by playing one of the tracks or by using the Authorize command under the Store menu in ITunes.
If you have, but haven't played the tracks at least for a few seconds, try than and then try transferring them to your iPod. Sometimes the authorization doesn't "take" until the track is first played in iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library to a new computer?  I have transferred purchased music but wish to transfer the rest of my library.  Home sharing isn't responding and the computers are going to be in different locations.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one?  I have successfully transferred purchased music but not my library of CDs.  Home sharing will not work, and isn't working in fact, as the computers will be in different countries.

Assuming your library is in the default location and all of the media is stored within the library's media folder then this is what you need to do:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target computer.
You can do this directly over a network (making use of shared network folders) or by making a copy on an external drive, moving the drive between computers, and copying again. Any way that works is good. However if you say that you cannot use Home Sharing (doesn't work properly anyway) because the source and target are not on the same network then method 2 as I describe it won't work either.
Your playlists, play counts, ratings etc. are stored inside the database iTunes Library.itl which is inside the iTunes folder and a successful migration includes all of this information, not just the media files. I recommend method 1 from the earlier link as it sets you up with a backup mechanism to use in future. All hard drives fail eventually and often without warning, or at least a warning that is noticed and then heeded.
If the initial assumption is wrong, or you need help checking, just ask.

  • Transferring purchased music from iPhone to iTunes

I purchased a song on my iPhone, but it doesn't want to transfer to my iTunes when I try to drag it. Transferring purchased songs from my iTunes to my iPhone is no problem, just not the other way around. Does anyone know how to do this? I have a 3G iPhone.

Do you have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If so, this is automatic, or should be. With Sync Music selected under the Music tab, after purchasing a song with your iPhone the song will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. The same applies with 3rd party apps if you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Are you manually managing music and video with your iPhone with this selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, after music is downloaded with your iPhone it will not be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so since you are manually managing music and video with your iPhone, which provides no benefit with an iPhone whatsoever compared to doing the same with an iPod since an iPhone doesn't support disk mode.
If you are manually managing music and video with your iPhone, music and video is not being transferred to your iPhone automatically - it is being done manually - hence the name of the option - "manually manage music and videos". If you choose to manually manage music and videos, then you've also chosen to manually transfer any music or video that was downloaded from the iTunes store with your iPhone from your iPhone to your iTunes library.

  • Problems dowloading purchased music

I recently bought a new computer. It has Windows Vista and I downloaded Itunes 7.0.2.16. I can download podcasts, but I just purchased two full albums and I am getting a stopped (err = -3259) message and nothing will download. What happens if it never is able to download? They say (somewhere on this website) that they are working on an Itunes upgrade that might fix the problem, but what happens to my purchased music if I can't download it? Irritated!!

  • Problem Authorizing Purchased Music

I recently upgraded Tiger to Leopard, and since then have been asked to authorize some purchased music and am running into some problems.
100 purchased and previously authorized songs are not playable. When I try to play the song on my computer, a message comes up saying I need authorize the song. The user ID that appears is "maryorourke," my user ID minus the rest of the email address. I cannot authorize these songs without a valid user ID. I have no idea how these songs came under the invalid ID or how to reset these songs. All other songs are under a valid user ID.
How do I fix this problem?
    Thanks!

  • Transferring Purchased Music on Iphone to iTunes

I recently purchased a Sony Vaio that died on me.... It just came back from Sony, like brand new.
I have my purchased music on my iPhone and haven't been able to transfer the music to the blank iTunes that I have now...... And when I try tu upgrade to the new iphone version, I get a warning that all of my music will be ERASED...
How can I tranfer my purchases from my iPhone to my BLANK iTunes?
    HELP!

Plug in iPhone. Then up in File menu in iTunes, tell it to transfer purchased content.
But FIRST, log into iTunes Store on that computer so it knows your account info thus knows what to look for on iPhone.

  • Transferring Purchased Music

My hard drive recently crashed. Before my computer crashed I transferred all my music and files onto my ipod. I received my computer back from repair and was able to put all of my old songs on my itunes library except for the music I have purchased. My fixed computer is authorized to play the music...and I can play it if I play it from my "ipod" section in itunes. The problem is I cannot add any of these songs to my library. What can I do?

If you're trying to drag the music from your iPod to your iTunes, this isn't going to work. The iTunes program and the iPod are designed not to do this. You would most likely have to download software that will pull your music off of your iPod for you... iPodUtil and iPodCopy are decent ones. If you Google them, you should find the download sites.

  • Problems transferring purchases

I'm trying to transfer my purchases from my iPhone to PC before updating the software as this is what it recommends I do. However when I click 'transfer purchases' it tries to sync and then comes up with an error message saying 'Attempting to copy to disk 'Elements' failed. An unknown error occurred (-39).' Elements is the name given to my external harddrive where my music library is - iTunes recognises this and will sync with it, it just seems to have a problem with transferring my purchases made on the iPhone there. Please help!

I had the same problem and tried everything you did over and over. Then I finally found this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306424 and the first item worked. So simple I almost cried. Really hope this helps as I spent hour after hour doing all the same things that you were. Just to make sure that we had the same problem I kept getting the message that my songs and tv shows were not authorized on my pc, although they played just fine there, but they just would not sync on to my Ipods.

  • Transferring Purchased Music from iPhone to new hard drive

Hard-drive burned up and has been replaced. Most music was backed up, but not all. And most of the new music (that hasn't been backed-up) is on the iPhone. But I can't copy the files on my iPhone back to my new hard drive. Obviously there are security measures to keep folks from transferring files all over the place. But it seems that if it's on my iPhone, I must have obtained it legally, and there must be some accommodation for a dead hard drive.
Same question for my iPhone apps. I'd rather not pay for apps twice, and iTunes won't let me copy them from my iPhone back onto my 'puter. As soon as I sync apps, they'll all disappear, unless there's some way to convince the phone that it's looking at the old, pre-burned-up-hard-drive.
File>Transfer Purchases sort of worked, but not completely. I have about 600 songs on my iPhone, and it copied about 200 of them to my new hard drive. I have music purchased from iTunes, music copied from purchased CDs, and free downloads (Starbucks, Paste, etc). And there's no trend in what got copied and what didn't. Some of each category was copied, but not all. Very confusing that I can't find a pattern.
    OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3G with 3.1.3

Apps issue solved. Or, more accurately, it's a non-issue. iTunes prompts you that you already bought the app and can download it for free. Not so with music, I'm afraid.

  • Problem transferring iPod music to Computer

My hard drive went out before I could back up the music I had collected on it.
My iPod Nano 2Gig still has some of my most listened to music.
I have researched the instructions regarding transferring music from iPod to Mac, but it does not work for me.
the instructions say to open the iPod, drag the iTunes folder out on to the desktop.
However, the iPod does not show an iTunes folder when opened.
It does show calendar, games etc, but not iTunes or any songs at all.
    Any ideas or help?
    Thanks!

*the iPod does not show an iTunes folder when opened*
The iPod folder is hidden so you need to either use a command line instruction to unhide it or a utility such as Tinker Tool. However there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti which has already been mentioned above but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Problems with 'Purchased' Music showing up as 'Error' in Match

I'm mystified by one aspect of iTunes Match behaviour.  I have a large collection of U2 songs, some of which I had ripped from CD and some of which, latterly, I bought through iTunes.  As you can see, most of the songs I have were found and matched by iTunes without a problem.
What I don't understand is why I am seeing Error against the songs from 'No Line On the Horizon' and 'Zooropa' when these were purchased from iTunes.  They are definitely in my Library because I can manually locate them.
Additionally, I don't understand why for two of the songs, Zooropa and Lemon, it wants me to download them again as 'Purchased'.  Why those two and not the others with Errors against their name?  I bought the No Line and Zooropa tracks from Apple to begin with.
Thirdly, it appears from the iTunes list above that I have two copies of Zooropa when in fact I only have one.  I can easily find the files in Finder as you can see from the screen shot below.
I don't really want to have to re-download all the songs that iTunes can't find as this will mean I just have duplicates. Equally, I don't want to have to re-attach or re-import Error songs that I know are on my HD and which have somehow been dropped by the iTunes Match process.
And I get terribly confused in this process of syncing and matching if I try to delete some of these duplicate entries, because frankly if I delete something and it's removed from iCloud and all my devices, I'm no longer quite sure what I'm removing and where from.
I have backup but should it be this difficult?

    It can become confusing.
An easy route to resolve would be simply to copy your U2 Songs to a standalone folder (outside iTunes).  Delete the Song files from iTunes (including the option to remove from the iCloud).  Once complete, turn iTunes Match off, go to the iTunes Store 'purchased' area and access all your U2 purchases.  From the U2 folder import any further U2 songs that were not purchased from iTunes.
Now sign-out of iTunes Store, restart computer from cold, start iTunes, sign-in to iTunes Store, start iTunes Match and allow is to complete the 3-step process.
At this point iTunes will correctly recognise all your purchased Songs and for the remainder will have successfully 'matched' or 'uploaded'.
This should leave your library in a stable working condition, with iTunes Match enabled and all U2 Songs.

  • Problems Downloading Purchased Music From iTunes Store

I recently purchased an album from the iTunes store and received a notice saying one song couldn't be downloaded. This song originally showed up in gray and couldn't be clicked on, played, etc and did not show any way to properly download it without purchasing the song again. Based on my calculations, I was still charged the full amount of the album despite not being able to download one of the songs. How do I go about downloading this song without paying the $1.29 again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

in the itunes store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section
Navigate to the music you want to re download and click on the Cloud icon to the right of it.
It will download a fresh copy at no extra cost
