Problems updating from 10.1, to 10.2, to 10.3, to 10.4

Hello. I've been a OSX user since 10.1, and I have the upgrade discs to prove it. I have the 10.1 Install discs, then 10.2 upgrade, 10.3 upgrade, and 10.4 upgrade.
Now, I want to install 10.4 onto a new 160GB HD, to replace the 20GB startup drive I have now. 10.1 installs fine, and man, what a blast from the past that is. But, when I try to install the 10.2 upgrade, booting from the cd never gets past the dark-grey apple screen. Likewise with the 10.3 upgrade disc. And of course, the 10.4 upgrade disc requires 10.3.
You can see where I'm going with this. I've been locked out of ever installing 10.4 again. Lord help me if I lose my old startup disk.
My Questions.
1) Can I just copy the System/Library/Users files/folders from the current startup drive on to the new drive, and it will work?
2) Is there any way I can trade in my 10.1/10.2/10.3/10.4 upgrade path cds for a single 10.4 Install DVD?

This will not work in OS X. There are some symbolic links that have to be set correctly and dragging will not get the job done.

I don't really know but am a bit doubtful about this.
Can you boot off the 10.1 on the new drive? If not, something sounds amiss and you probably need to get it fixed before having success.
If your new drive is a firewire drive, you should be able to clone your entire system from the old drive to the new drive. This would give you a bootable version of your present 10.4 system (which is evidently what you have on the old drive). There are a number of utilities which can do this. Apple's Disk Utility can actually do this job. There are good instructions for doing this in a post by Kappy at Cloning Question. Kappy also gives instructions for zeroing and reformatting the new drive. That would be a good thing to do.

You shouldn't have too much trouble provided you have a relatively clean system.
You should backup your personal users folders off the machine to a regular storage drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
10.6 upgrade strips out the 10.5 PPC code your not using and offers faster video drivers and some neat features like Exposé and Spaces which is highly productive as you can have 4-16 desktops visible at once and move stuff around between them (10.7 ripped that out)
10.6 is the fastest OS X version Apple has made, 10.5 is universal (more code and older video drivers) and 10.7 is slower than 10.6 in tests on the same hardware.
Your 10.5 install disk should be working, (check it first) stick it in and reboot holding the c key down, you should be able to boot from the disk. Apple isn't offering replacement 10.5 disks anymore so it needs to work in case you want to downgrade from 10.6.
You can learn how to make copies of your 10.5 disk online. I would do so.
You might decide to Carbon Copy Cloner (free/donations) your present 10.5 system to a blank external powered drive, you then can hold the option key and boot from it, erase and reverse clone back to your internal drive if you wish.
10.6 will run all your 10.5 software (some may need a update) as it has Rosetta, a compatibility system for 10.5 code. 10.7 does not, it will not run your present Rosetta/10.5 software at all, you will have to buy all new versions. Also older hardware likely won't work neither, like printers, scanners and all-in-ones etc as their drivers either won't get a update or they won't make one to force a premature hardware turnover.
If your upgrading your older 10.5 machine to 10.7, I'd advise against it, there isn't as much software ready for 10.7 (like 10.6) because it's forcing developers to rewrite their PPC based code
10.7 is slower and more glitchs than 10.6, more depressing gray all over and strange UI changes.
Also 10.8 is due out this summer and may not run on older hardware, so it's looking like you will be best off with 10.6.8 and leaving it at that to get the most software choice/performance and leave 10.8 for a new hardware/software purchase.
If your going to 10.7 anyway, then check this database to make sure the software your going to have to buy is ready or not. IMO, Lion for you and your older machine is a wasted effort and better the new software on a new hardware purchase.

I must admit though I throughly hate OS X Lion, as do a lot of other people, it's only because it's quality is absolutely terrible and unbecoming of Apple, likely why Mountain Lion 10.8 is being released this summer a year in advance and only a year after Lion. However my opinion about Lion's poor quality isn't relfected in my advice to you. For you it's more of a older hardware/have to buy all new software type deal which a newer machine with 10.8 and promises to be better/more refined OS than 10.7.
So in other words, upgrade to 10.6.8 and stay there, save your pennies for a new machine Early 2013, by then 10.8 would have several months and a lot of software/bugs worked out for it.

Problem update from 10.3 to 10.3.9

Some one pls helps me.
My problem is I can’t update the system from 10.3 to 10.3.9 (combo update). The system use to be 10.3.9 before it crash last 2 week. Since then I can’t update the system. I can only install system 10.3, that it. Till last night I already 15 time install the system, because every time I try to upgrade after install 10.3 the installation will be stop after 90% of installation. It says, “There were errors installing the software” and “Please try installing again”
I try to update from 10.3 to 10.3.1 but I can install up to 10.3.2 when I try to install 10.3.3 it crash.

Someone pls help me before I give-up with this computer. I still can’t update to Mac os 10.3.9. This update is very importance for me because till now I can’t update my ipod, it needs system 10.3.9 to use the ipod. If I can’t update this computer I have to format my ipod to used with window, I will lose all my song, picture and file inside ipod, something that I avoid to do for now. I will do that if I have no choice.

Problem updating from 1.2 to 1.3.1

Hi, I previously updated from 1.2 to version 1.3 but returned to 1.2 due to issues. Now I was trying to update to 1.3.1 but I get the following error.
Error 2753 The File pxsetup.exe1 is not marked for installation. Anyone got any ideas?

Having problems updating from IOS 4 to IOS 5

I have a 3rd generation 8 gb Ipod Touch, my serial number is 8K030K575J. Im trying to update from IOS 4 to IOS 5, my current software version is 4.2.1 I click the button that says check for updates and it tells me that 4.2.1 is the most up to date version. What am i doing wrong can someone please assist me in updating to IOS 5

There are no 8gb thrid gen ipod touches. It is a second gen ipod touch and can only go to 4.2.1

Problem updating from v12 to v14

Running Windows 7 64 bit.
I tried to update from Firefox v12 to v14 when the pop-up appeared, however the update failed each time.
I then removed v12 via Control Panel and then installed v14.0.1.
v14 will not run. I get an error message from XUL Runner
Error: Platform version '12.0' is not compatible with miniVersion>=14.0.1 maxVersion<=14.0.1

According to your system details, you posted your question using Firefox 14.0.1, so I assume Firefox starts ok; you just got that error message?
There is a malicious extension called ''XULRunner 1.9.1''. Maybe that's what is giving you the error. If that's it, go to '''Firefox > Add-ons > Extensions''', and beside '''XULRunner''', click '''Remove'''.

Problems updating from OSX 10.6.7 to 10.6.8

I've installed the new FCPX update on my iMac system, my second system, and it appears to be working fine. As part of the process I had to update the OS to 10.6.8 from 10.6.7.
So I felt that was successful and have tried to do the same on my mac tower primary system. This is the system that was built for me by a local systems integrator but has never worked as smoothly as it should and still crashes several times a day. I finally gave up hoping the systems integrator would ever make good on the setup after a couple of years, which is a long story and I won't bore you with it here.
On trying the update on the tower system, though, I get a "panic" on rebooting after the update of the OS. This is before even attempting to install the FCPX update. I get the restart message and the system always goes to the "panic" screen and hangs there, requiring a reboot which results in another hang.
I had made CCC clones of the system drive before doing the update, so I can boot to one of those, then CCC clone the system drive back to itself, and everything works normally. If I try to update the OS I get the "panic" screen again and the cycle repeats.
I'm pasting the error report below. I'm well out of my depth in trying to make sense of the report. I'd appreciate any help I can get on what the problem is and how to fix it.

Thanks for the reply. The systems intregrator did a number of complete reinstalls when they were trying to work out the issues. I'm actually hoping this is a hardware issue that may finally be determined through this upgrade problem, if that makes sense. If that doesn't pan out I may just get a new, larger hard drive and do as you suggest, since they're so cheap. But I hope this will somehow track down the larger problem of system crashes.

Problem updating from Acrobat 10.1.10 to 11. Error 1001, and am told to connect to update server. When I activated the installer, message said Install failed, contact manufacturer for assistance, so I am.

I am using a 2011 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.9.5. Have been using Acrobat 10.1.10, but got a pop-up notice from Adobe today, saying that it had been awhile since last logged on and my software was due for an update. However, after downloading the update Acrobat 11, the updater seems to be unable to FIND the file to update, so it asks me to select the file to update. When I found it, the file icon was grayed out, and wouldn't allow me to select it. Gave me a message for "Error 1001". I'm an experienced Mac user, but not a programmer, so I don't know what that means. When I tried to run the installer from the downloaded file, it stopped, saying "Installation Failed" due to encountering an error—which was NOT named or numbered—and that I should contact the manufacturer for assistance. Which I am ATTEMPTING to do, but it appears to be impossible to actually get direct help.
Suggestions, or better yet, direct answers, would be appreciated.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....

Problems updating from iOS 6.1.3.to iOS 7.0.3.

Hi everyone. Norwegian iPad-user in need of assistance. I haven't bothered to update my iPad untill now. I'm running iOS 6.1.3 now, and todays update obviously is iOS 7.0.3. But, when I start the process with updating I get to the part where I agree on the Terms & Conditions, clicks accept and then it starts verifying the update. After a short while I get the message; Unable to verify the update. The verification was unsuccessful for iOS 7.0.3 since you no longer are connected to the internet. (This is translated from Norwegian, the proper English message might differ...) Anyway, this is not correct. I am at a truly stable and fast internet connection here at work, so something else must be the problem.
Help!!!

You can connect the iPad to your computer and download/install the update.

I'm trying to update my MFA services from MFA 6.1.1.15297 to 6.2 to get proported fix for import of OATH-token PKSC file import. However, when I click on the "Update" button its failing to obtain the new bits...Looks like its trying to
go to pfweb.phonefactor.com/loging, but looks the URL is no longer valid. How can I obtain the updated bits?

The Update button used to take customers to the MFA Management Portal where they could download the latest version of the MFA Server. The issue you are referring to is a bug that has been fixed in newer versions. Legacy PhoneFactor customers that have
not yet migrated to Azure can sign in at
https://pfweb.phonefactor.net. Azure customers should sign into the Azure portal and either manage their MFA Provider or go to the MFA service settings page and click the Advanced settings link to get into the MFA Management Portal. From there, you can
download the current version and upgrade. The current version available as of today is v6.3.1.

AIP - Problems updating from Reader 11.0.3 to 11.0.4 on Windows

Hi,
I had previously created an admin installation point using the non-mui 11.0.0 MSI and the 11.0.03 quarterly update. This installed fine for all our users.
Now I'm trying to create one for 11.0.4. I can't find the non-mui version of the 11 base MSI anymore from the Adobe distribution site. Does anyone know where I can find that? I know the one I used was not MUI, since when I look in my Programs and Features list, 11.0.03 is listed (not 11.0.03 MUI).
I've now downloaded the 11.0.0 MUI and updated it with 11.0.04 MUI. I have the transfrom file set in the Adobe customization wizard to remove all versions of Reader that is already installed. But when I install 11.0.04 MUI, it doesn't remove 11.0.03. They both show in Programs and Features. 11.0.03 has to be uninstalled separately.
And just for kicks, I made a 11.0.03 MUI installation package and uninstalled all other Reader versions from my machine. Then I tried installing the 11.0.04 MUI AIP package, and got this message: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".
Does 11.0.04 require uninstallation of the aip 11.0.03 package first?

Right: the Reader pattern formula is: Last MSI + latest quarterly + latest out of cycle patch)
It is NOT: Last MSI + previous quarterly + latest quarterly + latest out of cycle patch
Mixing MUI with non-MUI installers is not supported either.
Here's the FAQ text from the link I sent above:

Verify no previous product has been installed. If it has, uninstall it. If you’ve already uninstalled, try Microsoft’s or Adobe’s cleaner tool.
This error can also appear if you are patching an AIP in an unsupported order.

Installation problems updating from v6 update 11 to v6 update 12

I am running XP Home SP3 and IE 7. I uninstalled update 11 and then attempted to install update 12. When I click on the installer I get a message saying "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?"
When I click on Yes, it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
I tried removing everything with javara, but I have the same problem.
I also tried the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility, but it does not list anything Java.
I see that someone posted a similar question about a month ago, but there did not seem to be a resolution.

Could you please provide more information about how you remove 6u11 and install 6u12?
Where did you download the JRE (ie. java.sun.com, java.com)?
Which type of installer did you use or what is the file name of JRE that you downloaded?
Do you have any reliable steps in reproducing the issue?

Problem updating from CV to MV

Some of the same users are in CV1 and CV2. Entries are pulled from CV1, and only attributes are set to flow from CV2. The problem is, when an entry is deleted from CV2 (where only attributes flow from), the attributes are still present in the MV. Is there a way that if I delete an entry from CV2, that it will remove the associated attributes from the MV?

Okay, that was my first mistake. I was trying to use the join rules to accomplish this. Is there anywhere to find more specific info on the %operation% procedures? I changed my selction criteria in my attibute flow rule to be (%operation%==DeleteFromMV) and I still have no data being removed. In fact, I removed all entries from the CV, and all data is still present in the MV. I guess I just don't understand how to setup the attribute flow so that when an entry or attribute is removed from the CV, it will also be removed from the MV. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Yes and Apple acknowledges the issue. The App Store shows you have updates, but when going to update page it is blank. You need to go to the purchased page and scroll through all you apps and look for those that say "update" then update it. A hassle to be sure. The apple folks informed me that it is an iTunes issue and will be resolved soon. This issue has been going on for a week or so (July 25), so "soon" means......?

Problem updating from Acrobat X Standard to Pro

I upgraded from the Acrobat Standard X to the Pro, and this is what I did. First I deactivate the Standard and then uninstalled it. Next I installed the Pro, linked the serial numbers as prompted, and then tried to run the program. What I have is the Standard all over again only it says Pro. I have to have the preflight feature in my line of work. On this version, there is no Advance pull down window across the top or a document or forms tab. I am familiar with Pro 9, but X is not at all like the old Pro 9 I have used for years. What went wrong?

Never mind. I found it by hunt and peck. I like Pro 9 better. It was straight forward. This is not.
