Problems with BIOS for new graphics card!!! HEEELP!!!!

Hello,I just recently received my new graphics card (Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960), and I am having some troubles getting it to work with my computer (p7-1072sc). I go myself a new PSU (Crossair CX600M), istalled it properly, pluged all the components up and put in the new GPU. Every time I turn on the PC, it freezes at the blue HP loading screen and does not respond to any keys. After some google searching I found out that I most likley would have to update my BIOS, so I went to the HP homepage. Entered my modelnumber, downloaded the new BIOS update (My current version was 7.14 13.10.2011), the update said the version was 7.15 05.25.2013. I downloaded the exe file, closed all other programs and ran the file. I started out as normal, but as the main installationprocess started I got the message that hpprobar3 stoped working. The computer freezed for a short while and then I got the message that the new BIOS had bin successfully installed, so I restarted the comuter. After that I checked back on the systems information and the version had bin changed to 7.15, but the date was still 13.10.2011. I tried the same rpocess again and the same thing happened.  I ried again to put in the new GPU, and it still froze on the blue HP loading screen. I also tried to find the directory for the BIOS file (sp55548.exe) (to make a flash installation), under c:/swsetup, but I only found one folder named sp68021. Can anyone help me with this?? I would really appreciate any advice sort of advice!!!
PS: I am pretty new to all this stuff, so please be patient and explain any technical informoation or terms.

As stated before, and as a refresher. I just got off the line with MSI and EVGA.  What you have is a Legacy motherboard. It can not function with a UEFI BIOS graphic card. That said:MSI (Greg):  The 750Ti NF has a switch for Legacy/UEFI.  All others in the 700 series are UEFI.  The 900 series, plus the R7, R9 ship with the new VBIOS, a hybrid that detects the correct BIOS (Legacy/UEFI). EVGA (Kayon): All 600 and 700 except the 750Ti are Legacy.

I have a problem with Imac mid 2010 graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670 512MB). When I play video formats like xvid, mkv, avi iMac freezes and emits horrible sound,in service said the problem is not overheating. Not a problem with memory or hard disk because I placed second correct parts. The same problem is with OSX 10.6.8 and 10.8.4 and other players.Apple hardware test found no problem and tech tool pro found no fault.
After five days of testing in the service they can not  found fault and it was decided to change the graphics card.
New graphics have been tested for two days but it is not reproduced divx ... but their test software which did not find any fault on the old graphics...
Do I have the right to complain if repair does not fix the problem because I use non apple softwere and video formats.

You could look at the System Profile for the info it presents for the card.  But why wouldn't you think it's not up to date if you have the latest install (according to your sig above)?
What program are you trying to run?  Is there anything in the system log?
I think it's the program that's having the problem and not anything with your video software.

Only one problem after 6 months of use, but I can't get around it.
When I start up Quake 3 all is well I can play for let's say 10-20 mins.
After that I get a Blue Screen of Death saying that there was some memory error connected with the graphic card.
Windows "tells me" to change the video card (it's not something i can do with a laptop ;) ) or to contact the hardware producer to change the bios because something could be wrong.
Well only think I could do on my own was to change the drivers (I found some compatible with my card) but that didn't help. I also tried to change the amount of onboard memory used by the card (It uses x amount of available RAM), but to no avail

    Hi,
    which drivers youre using?
Did you checked already these drivers out:

Maybe it helps. Otherwise you should send your machine to an authorized service partner for a hardware checkup since your machine is still in warranty and it wont cost you anything.

  • Problem with recognising radeon 6490M graphics card on Pavilion dv6-6176sa

    So,
My laptop was having some issues recently with the graphics, it basically wouldn't recognise either the intel or the radeon graphics card. I tried updating all drivers under the sun but nothing worked. In the end I formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, did all necessary updates windows and HP ones. Now my laptop would recognise both the intel and radeon in device manager but my computer was constantly using the intel card, I read up a bit and figured this would be due to an issue with the switchable graphics.
I did the bios and drivers updates and changed switchable graphics to fixed mode, this seemed to do the trick and my laptop ran like it should be for a few days. This morning I start watching some of my shows and then my screen freezes and it starts making a bunch of noise (similar to what it was doing pre-factory reset). Oh dear, I turn it off, and leave it off for a bit figuring maybe it had overheated. I turn it on again, now device manager wont show the radeon card and AMD catalyst produces a warning message saying that there is no AMD driver compatible with the CCC (well it was just fine yesterday, no updates, program installations or anything run since then)
I'm now wondering whether there may just be a hardware issue and that it's time to pack in my laptop or if this could still be a driver issue.

    @Piids
Download and install the most current AMD graphics softpaq.
You can get it from the download section of your notebook's web support portal.
Do not install the Intel graphics driver softpaq seperately. Doing that will remove the switchable graphics feature.

    Hi,
    Here is my /var/log/messages.log output.
Since several days my computer repeatedly restarts programs that require at least a bit memory, such as firefox ('segmentation fault'), skype, virtualbox, generaly gnome 3 environment. Sometimes it happens that the system hangs and I can't do nothing, although I can hear that hard disk is working - at that moment only hard reset helps.
I know that the Dell Inspiron laptops (1720) have problems with Nvidia 8600M GT (the cold solder). Is it like that this time? Or maybe something wrong with the memory, CPU (Core Duo) cache memory?
I will be happy to add any additional information.

  • MS6167 - Problems with NVIDIA GeForce FX5600 graphics card

    Hi all,
tried to install a Nvidia GeForce FX5600 old PC of mine that the kids use, mobo is MS-6167. Could not get this to work. States that it cannot get enough resources (in Windows XP, Device Manager). I have tried to force reasign of IRQ from the BIOS on reboot, and even removed the sound card.
Could this be a power issue, though I assume the card would just not work or crash.
    Any help apprecaited.

Before a motherboard can tout such features, the motherboards' chipset must support them. All Athlon motherboards currently available ship with AMD's 750 chipset, which only officially supports PC100 SDRAM and the AGP 2X interface."

  • Speaker problem with t420i and adding a new graphics card question

I bought a t420i about a month ago and noticed that the speakers could not properly handle muliple sounds at once.  What happens is that, say in a music video, the music plays loud and clear, but once the lyrics start the background music fades a bit to about 85% of it's original volume.  I had returned the laptop because of this problem but the replacement I got has the SAME exact problem.
In case im not clear, try this example.  You know the beeping noise you get when you press an incompatible set of keys?  ( like g, h, and b).  When I have this noise going simultaneously with a song, the song's sound fades a bit.
This does not happen with headphones, therefore i believe the problem is with the way the speakers are programmed.
Also, if I bought a t420 with just integrated graphics, could I still add a new graphics card?  Or can you only add a new graphics card to a thinkpad that initially comes with discrete graphics?

I think the main purpose of the nvs4200m is the ability to use three displays (internal + 2 external). Additionally, nVidia has better driver support for games so even though it is around the same speed, the drivers are better.
The shared ram is still used, unless you disable the HD3000 in the BIOS and run with only the nvs4200m at all times.

I own HP Pavilion Elite HPE H8 1010cs. Motherboard is HP IPISB-CH2. I bought new graphic card GAINWARD Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB together with 600W PSU Corsair CX600M. First I tried my new PSU with my old GPU nvidia 550Ti. It worked perfectly. But when I replaced old card with new GTX 970, bios freezes on the first power on window. Escape does not work. Hello @Tomas83,
I understand that you are having issues getting your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1010cs Desktop PC towork with your Gainward GeForce® GTX 970 Phantom 4GB Graphics Card. I believe the reason you are experiencing this issue is the the break in the downward compatibility on the PCIe slots was broken at around the Gen 2.1 mark and you are trying to put a Gen 3.0 card in a Gen 1.0 slot. This in essence makes your computer incompatible with the graphics card you have chosen to use.  I am providing you an article on the overclock.net website titled The final answer to the controversial PCIe x16 version compatibility., where the author explains what I described and goes into how he made the determination. I would advise you review the article if you have any questions concerning the issue you are facing.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • New PSU for MSI P67S-C43 (B3) with new graphics card.

    Good morning!
I'm in the market for a new PSU for my system (specs in signature). I think the current PSU I have would be sufficient for the graphics card I'm looking at getting,  GeForce GTX 680 FTW+ (EVGA 04G-P4-3687-KR), however, I'd like to go modular. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    like_a_god

A GTX680 system pulls less exactly same power like the same system with GTX260 (both 38A minimum without oc). So in terms of power there is no need for psu upgrade as the TX650 could handle a GTX680 with ease. Considering an oc card it might be 40A required minimum.
None the less this is a MSI forum so next time please don't ask for psu upgrades for an EVGA card. Better get an MSI card instead like N680GTX Lightning or N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GD5/OC (if you need 4GB).
If you want to upgarde the psu just because of it being modular then go for an 850w psu to have a noticeable power upgrade also. The HX850 is then the better choice. If you want a fully modular unit it would take AX850 instead.

  • The GPU-windows are blocked for my graphics card because of unresolved problems with the driver. What shoul I do?

I use an IMAC version 10.6.8. Memory: 4GB. Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.

In most cases the graphics cards in iMacs are Not upgradeable.  They are usually soldered to the logic board.  RAM is considered, along with harddrives, the only component that is upgradeable in an iMac, unlike in PC's.  So basically you would need to sell your unit and purchase an iMac with a more powerful graphics card.
    Hope this helps

  • Help with installing new graphics card

Hi I have a 3 year old hpe575a (hp pavillion)
    Intel i7 2600, 8gb ram
Orginally had a ati hd radeon  2gb (not sure what model)
    in it
after 2 years the radeon finally melted ( always had overheating problems in the australian summer )
so I bought a nvidia gtx630m which had the same connections and power requirements and connections as the radeon
I csnt seem to get it working, despite the card powering up, and loading the splash screen it doesnt go any further, I can get to the network boot screen or the hp splash screen but no further, and I cant find any bios updates for my mptherboard (pegatron) so do I need a new motherboard? The computer works 100% fine without the new graphics card
Should I get a new motherboard. Or graphics card? which would be cheaper? or is there someway to get the current system to work with the new graphics card? thanks -zac

    Hi,
The existing card is an "AMD Radeon HD6570 (2 GB)". I don't know how you can fit a Nvidia GTX630M to your machine because this card is for laptop:
         http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-630m/specifications
Probably you are talking about the following card:
        http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-630/specifications
The card should be able to use 300W PSU on your machine (no need new PSU). My suggestion:
    (a) Update BIOS to the latest one, please check, should be "Version7.15 Rev. A" the motherboard is Cleveland

    (b) Install driver for new card
    Hope this helps.
Note: Autumn now but still hot isn't it ?

  • New Graphics card for P965 Platinum

My good old P965 Platinum has lost its graphics card lately and I need to look for a replacement.
The old graphics card was an ATI X1950 XTX 512MB and has stood up well considering the vast advances in everything since then.
The problem is compatability since all new cards these days are PCI Express 3.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what newer graphics cards would work on this motherboard (if any)?

We had excellent results with GTS450 and GTX460 on MSI P965 Platinum.
But they are PCI-E 2.0 graphic cards.
You may also try GTX 650 and GTX 660, but it may fail in case of BIOS/VBIOS incompatibilities.
In any case, you need a good (single rail) PSU (at least 450W for real).
The additional PCI-E power connector is a must, because the PCI-E 1.0 slot cannot provide the power for a PCI-E 2.1 and 3.0 graphics card.

  • Won't boot with new graphics card

Hi. I have a Pavilion P7-1058uk with a Cleveland-GL8 motherboard and onboard graphics.
I bought a new monitor which has 2560x1440 resolution, greather than the onboard graphics can cope with, so have tried to upgrade with a Gigabyte GT630 card.
When I startup, I now get to the blue HP screen but no further. If I startup with F10 or ESC pressed, I get to a black screen instead. Either way, I am invited to press Esc to enter startup but pressing the key has no impact and the computer just hangs. There is a repeated cycle of very quiet clicks which sounds like the HDD drive trying to start then stopping
If I remove the graphics card and connect the monitor back to the onboard graphics then all is well again (but restricted to 1920x1080 resolution).
Perhaps stupidly I assumed it was an issue with the power supply (300W) and not enough residual oomph to run the HDD. But having upgraded that to 650W it makes no difference. I also tried downloading NVidia drivers but it won't let me install them because I can only get the computer to work without the graphics card, and Nvidia won't install because it can't detect the hardware.
Any ideas/help would be much appreciated.

OK thanks. This card doesnt require a six pin connector but it is interesting that your comment implies that those that do still take power from the motherboard but topped up with the six pin connector. As opposed to taking all power from the six pin connector and nothing from the motherboard. I am not making a statement that equates to your analogy. All cards plugged into a motherboard I/O internal slot are powered by the motherboards power distribution subsystem.
One last question - should I have uninstalled the graphics driver for the integrated graphics or is that unnecessary? I have read that the motherboard turns the integrated graphics off when it detects a dedicated card.  I have not done so and am a little wary of uninstalling the existing driver in case things still dont work and it gets tricky to revert back to where I am now.
    Andrew
No. You won't need to uninstall the driver for the integrated graphics. The OS will only load the driver for the graphics card when one is installed.

  • Need recommendations: New graphics card for HPE-400y

Hi!  I'm in need of a new graphics card, but I don't know which one is best for my computer.  My computer is a Hewlett Packard  HPE-400y.   Click here for specs!
My computers has all the original parts except the PSU and HDD. I recently changed the PSU to a Corsair CX430.  The current hard drive is a WD Caviar Black 2TB.
I use my computer for Guild Wars 2, Maya (models and animation), Zbrush, Corel Painter, and Photoshop.
My current graphics card (Radeon HD 5450) has issues playing Guild Wars 2. The FPS is 30 or lower if I try to play the game with medium or high settings. The FPS also drops when I'm playing the group PVP event known as World Vs World. I often have to have the graphics on the lowest setting in order to get 30 -45 FPS.

    Hi,
You should be able to get a double wide card in your PC.  Length may be a problem due to all of the cables. If the space below the optical drive is open then you might try to stuffing the extra cable lengths into that location.
BTW-- very nice photos.  Not many will go through the effort to do so.
Consider trying one of the below graphics.
MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF  Both of these graphics cards are significantly faster then your existing 5450.
Know what the return policy is before your buy.
You have an excellent Corsair power supply. I would prefer that you had a 500 watt PSU so that the higher performing graphics cards could be tried.  This NVIDIA GTX 660 specifies at 450 watt minimum but the 12v amperage from your Corsair CX430 is more than sufficient.  It might be worth giving it a go.  It's about 50% faster than the above two graphics cards.  I typically don't recommend that graphics cards be used with PSUs below the graphics card manufacturer's minimum requirements but the Corsair CX430 should work.
