Problems with Edirol fa 101

HAve recently moved house and have re set up my system in a new place.
Initially seemed to be working fine. Now logic doesn't seem to be getting any input from Edirol Firewire box. If I start up without it switched on then switch in it seems to find it ok. But not getting any input other than bypassing digital in straight to output amp.
Also logic won't now seem to close properly. I'm having to hold down the power switch to power down my mac. grr. any thoughts anyone? do I need to reinstall logic?

Hi
Power the FA 101 with the external power supply. Its much happier that way.
Repair your permissions.
Cheers

  • Problems with Edirol FA-101 firewire soundcard and Mavericks

    Hi,
I have an Edirol FA-101 soundcard which was working flawlessly before upgrading to Mavericks. The sound comes out really weird and distorted in every application. I don't understand what is going on. Builtin soundcard is working right.
Is anyone else here having problems with their soundcard and sound, specially any firewire one?!?
    Please advise because!
    Regards,
    Nuno Santos

I have opened a topic yesterday in a related question, but may be its not the adapter but mavericks? The simptomps are the same: Please read and respont...
    My original post is this:
I just received my brand new custom ordered iMac, but it has only thunderbolt ports. My whole home studio system is based on my EDIROL FA101 Firewire audio interface that worked like a charm through the Firewire port on the older iMac. Now I had to buy an apple made Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter to conncet the EDIROL.
Now its bad... Everything is the same setup, as I use it for years, and it has nothing to do with drivers or Mavericks since the old computer I used until last week had Mavericks too. Now the music stops for seconds frequently in every player, iTunes, VLC, Youtube even Logic pro. Just stops for a sec, than continues and stops again and keeps doing this. (Just to make sure, I returned the Firewire - Thunderbolt adapter to the apple store and they gave me an other one, just to make sure that is not a corrupt adapter)
I have tried everything. First I have switched to BUS mod on the back of the EDIROL menas getting the power from the computer, cause I thought the power coming from the EDIROLs AC adapter and the Thunderbolt adapter is having some conflict but nothing changed, or I've got even more stops and some noise too. Than I pluged AC back on the EDIROL, so thunderbolt is getting it's power from the iMac, EDIROL from the wall, but I still have the issue. Stops, often, than not often. Sometimes I have 10 stops within a minute bot sometimes plays the song correctly... I need some help or advice.
    Thank you guys!

  • Problems with Edirol UA20

I have just tried to install this but for some reason it isn't showing up anywhere.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful as I have a new song I desperately need to write before I forget it.
I am using an imac running OS X 10.7.5

If you have already repaired permissions and restarted your computer, contact the manufacturer since it's their product you are having problem with.

  • Problem With EDIROL R-4

If you use the R-4 audio recorder as a USB drive, as suggested by the EDIROL, use the USB ports in the BACK!
Using the front will lock up the finder about half way through a copy task.
    Just a note.

  • A little problem with the "Audio-MIDI Config" for my Edirol "FA-101"

    Hi to all of you!
I bought an Edirol "FA-101" a couple weeks ago, and when I try to plug and record with many mics, from the backside inputs, it seems that these inputs don't give me the "punch" I need. I mean by that that I have to go trough my old Tascam "M-30" in way to use the preamps from the mixer, so I can have a little more input "volume", and then, plug the direct output from the mixer and then plug it in the back inputs of the "FA-101".
I was wondering why do I need to do that? Cause when I take a look at the "Audio-MIDI Config" (I do work in french, so, apologize for any translations errors), the "AMC" window don't show any inputs as "selectable", and, or, "ajustable". The link bellow shows the exact copy of what I see when I open the "AMC" set-up window:
    http://www.geocities.com/macjamsimages/configaudiomidi.jpg
Now, I have to explain that I had some problems in the past, when installing QT 7. I tried to remove QT 7, but I think I removed some files, maybe importants ones. So, now, what I want to know, is if that setup is normal, and impossible to configure, or is it MacOS Panther 10.3.9 that need a reinstall?
And I have to say that GB and Logic Express both recognize the "FA-101" as audio inputs. But need a little help from the mixer.
    Thanks in advance!

The inputs on the back of the Edirol unit are LINE LEVEL inputs, meaning they are require a high level of voltage to give a level. A microphone plugged directly into this input will not give you the required voltage, if you were to plug either the outputs of a mixing desk or something like a CD player into it you would get a level.
First of all you must use a microphone preamplifier, like the ones on the front panel. There are thousands of companies producing these and it shouldn't be hard to find them. You could also use any mixing desk which has multiple outputs, so as to split the channels out to the relevant channels in logic.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using Multiple Audio Interfaces With Logic (Edirol FA-101)

I just bought tiger so that i could aggregate my two edirol fa-101's and they still dont work. They cut out and the sync buttons flash. Its as if the computer ant deal with so much information. I stop all large processes on my g5 dual 1.8 and try again. They cut out whether im in Logic or not. One works ok but still cuts out sometimes, adding another has made the problem twice as bad. Any advice please. Ive talked to edirol and they have no idea what to do... Thanks, Ben

According to their web page, the FA-101 does accept SPDIF. They should be wired together with one unit should be set up as a master and the other as a slave. You units should sync up then.
As they are right now, the two units are competing to sync with Logic, causing the sound to pop and cut out.

  • 101 Problems with my iPod Touch and iTunes...Almost

It really feels like I have 101 problems with my iPod touch and iTunes.
For some time now my iPod Touch have been using alot of batterypower and the battery is often discharged very fast. It discharges alot faster now than when I brought the Touch.
Also when I plug the iPod Touch to my computer it doesn't charge, it does the oposite of that, it's disharges and it does that ALOT faster than normal
There is also a problem regarding connecting the iPod Touch to iTunes. It doesn't connect to iTunes directly after I have plugged it in. It feels really random and it lives it own life it seems like.
If I accomplish to connect ut to iTunes it doesn't sync every single time. The computer / iPod Touch hangs and nothing happens. Soemtimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, like I said before - It feels really random!
Now to a BBIIGG problem. A week ago my girlfriend changed my password on my iPod Touch. When she typed the password into the login screen, it failed, she had forgotten the password / she thought that she picked that password when she changed it. Anywho, I didn't panic becuase I knew that I could lock it up by iTunes.
But, iTunes gives me a error while trying to restore the iPod Touch saying that there is no update avaiable and after that nothing happens. I tried to do the Sleep / Power + Home trick to set the iPod Touch into a recovery mode but iTunes gave me a unknown error.
I tried to update iTunes from my version to the new 8.0 version but when I do so it gives me a error saying that iTunes.msi can not be found and it can't uninstall the previous version :S
So, now I have a unusable iPod Touch, I can't do nothing with it.
    Like I said, It's really feels like I have 101 problems ;D.
Lucky I have my old iPod so I can listen to Music :P

Are you running windows xp or vista? I know the solution for vista but not for xp. My mate had the same problem but he has a vista.
Let me know what you are running.

  • Problem with FireWire audio interface (Edirol FA-66)

I am experiencing the following problem with my FireWire Audio interface via Edirol FA-66. At unpredictible moments the 'Digital In' LED starts blinking, and after that the audio signal stops working. I do not know if Logic is the culprit, since it also happens now and then with iTunes
Note: there are digital in/outs connected.
Only shutting down the Edirol and restarting the iMac G5 resolves the problem, be it only temporary: after a while the phenomenon shows up again.
    Extremely ennoying.
    What could be the culprit?
    Bonkie
    Belgium

Hi Patrick, I don't know that specific interface but could it possibly be that the flashing LED also act as an alert for when the firewire connection has gone down?
Reason I suggest this is I have the same thing from with my iMac & focusrite saffire Le, where i lose audio now & then, & when it happens if i check in the interfaces software control panel it always has a 'firewire connection error' - I then just have to unplug & replug-in the interface to re-establish the firewire conection. Just a thought but maybe it's worth consulting the edirol manual/tech support to see if this is the case ref the LED function?

  • Boot Camp: Firewire Edirol FA-101 recognize like 61883 device

    Hi,
I've a big problem... I've installed Windows SP2 (on a Mac pro with the last version of Leopard) under Boot Camp to use an *Edirol Firewire audio unit, the Edirol FA-101*.
The unit _is recognized NOT like a 1394 unit BUT like a 61883 peripheral_ (mLAN standard of Yamaha).
    WHY???
The installation of Edirol drivers go ahead BUT in the "Control Panel" *I CAN FIND ONLY "REALTEK HD Audio Output"..._no Edirol FA-101*_ channel Audio and MIDI IN/OUT _*to choose*_.
I think I'm NOT the only with a Firewire Edirol Audio Unit FA-101 that can't work under Boot Camp...
QUESTION: *Boot Camp has a fault with all 1394 Firewire peripheral units* ???
Someone could HELP ME???... *because I need to use this unit BOTH under Windows AND OSX*
    Thanks in advance.

OK my friends... I've a news.
I've found that when the installation proccess is going to finish there are some things that should be added in System Startup global entry but "somethings" makes that will not be able to be added anyway.
I've have an idea, but I don't know that could be true... is there a possibilities that REALTEK DRIVER makes a check about new changes in the Sound Control Panel and "roll -back" to a certain condition, deleting new entry in the System startup?
So, this is what Ive found:
    (1) ---------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process (it could be this way): value "MSPQM" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci,StreamingDeviceSetup {DDF4358E-BB2C-11D0-A42F-00A0C9223196},{97EBAACB-95BD-11D0-A3EA-00A0C9223196},{ 97EBAACB-95BD-11D0-A3EA-00A0C9223196}")
But it has deleted by "something": value "MSPQM" (new data: "")
    (2) ----------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process (it could be this way): value "WDM_SPLITTER1" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci.dll,StreamingDeviceSetup {2F412AB5-ED3A-4590-AB24-B0CE2AA77D3C},{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4},{ 6994AD04-93EF-11D0-A3CC-00A0C9223196},C:\WINDOWS\INF\WDMAUDIO.inf,WDM_SPLITTER.I nterface.Install")
But it has deleted by "something": value "WDM_SPLITTER1" (new data: "")
    (3) ------------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process: value "MSPCLOCK" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci,StreamingDeviceSetup {97ebaacc-95bd-11d0-a3ea-00a0c9223196},{53172480-4791-11D0-A5D6-28DB04C10000},{ 53172480-4791-11D0-A5D6-28DB04C10000}")
But it has deleted by "something": value "MSPCLOCK" (new data: "")
Now, I don't know what exactly is... I have to think about it... but IF SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA... LET ME KNOW ASAP.
    Thanks

  • Digital distortion on external firewire audio Edirol FA-101 and 10.4.11

    Hi
Not sure if this is the right forum but I have an Edirol FA-101 external firewire audio unit and it seems like prior to installing 10.4.11 update for Tiger the audio was perfect. Now however I get a constant level of what sounds like digital distortion even without any audio sources playing out of my FA-101.. I saw the forum/support notes regarding audio problem with 10.4.10.. just wondered if anyone has similar experiences..the audio device does not have it's own drivers but uses the mac built in firewire audio support.
    Thanks

that's what outputs 3 and 4 are there for. You can't control one stereo output to do two different things at the same time... it says in the edirol manual that the headphone jack outputs the same as output 1 and 2 from the back.
Therefore if you want a separate stereo output pair to connect your speakers to, you must use outputs 3 and 4.
Edirol didn't make the unit for the pc - actually the hardware was designed for the mac (hence it's core audio compatibility out of the box).
Edirol's fa-101 and fa-66 (which I own) are mac product which just happen to work on the pc thanks to the driver they had to write after the fact to support windows xp. Plug the unit into a pc without the driver and nothing happens. plug it into a mac running osx and it's automagically configured for low latency, highest performance, midi and audio in and out.
Have fun owning the best interface you can get for the mac for the money!

  • Edirol UA-101 or FireBox ?

    Hello,
Am deciding between the Edirol UA-101 (http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=703&ParentId=114) and the PreSonus FireBox (http://www.presonus.com/firebox.html)...
I am specifically looking for portability, good quality, and bus power...
    What do you all think?
Also, are both devices "class compliant", and therefore work under OS X without special drivers?
    Chris M.

I used a FA-101 and I and yes, it has no driver software, it uses the ones
in OSX but this, in my direct experience, caused a buzzing noise.
    I documented this noise here...
    http://www.screenlands.com/logic/firewireaudiointerface
There you will find info about this Edirol interface noise problem.
This is actually unwanted noise coming from the PowerBook but caused by the Edirol.
Recordings with this interface are fine, there is no noise in the recording.
However, I was surprised that there is so little info about this problem of
"Class Compliant Drivers" that are directly part of this noise problem.
There is a FIX for this problem called "CHUD" available here...
    http://developer.apple.com/tools/download
The FA-66 is small and portable yes, but there is no input level meter.
There is that one single LED that is the clip indicator but if your used to
viewing you input signal on a larger led ladder or lcd screen that one little
light isn't enough to set and monitor input levels.
Also be aware that there is no software control for the Edirols like the controls for say, the M-Audio FW410 or the MOTU UltraLite.
Also, if you change the sample rate on the FA interfaces, you have to quit all your audio software, shut off the FA and turn it back on again.
Kind of a pain when it could be software controlled.

  • ITunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configu

I just upgraded through the auto upgrade feature and, whilst iTunes was working perfectly before the upgrade it now refuses to start, displaying a dialog box with
"iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration".
Now, given iTunes was working perfectly beforehand what has caused this? I've tried restarting the PC, reinstalling the new iTunes from a fresh download, deinstalling and reinstalling the new version to no avail. I have now tried to reinstall the old version and I get the same error message.
System is a WinXP / AMD64 / 2Gb RAM with an Edirol FA-101 firewire audio interface (still replays sounds via Windows Media player so it's not that!)
    Anyone got any ideas?

Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base and let us know if it solves your problem.
