Problems with iTunes Festival "A error occurred loading this content"

Hi
I'm having problems getting iTunes Festival to work, I can click through shows but when i click on "play" for any particular one I get the dreaded "An Error Occured loading this content"
So far from what I've tried, most things work well, some things give me that error:
What works well:
Netflix
Podcast
Redbull TV
Bloomberg
What give me "an error occured loading this content":
iTunes Festival
Crackle
(note: i havent tried everything yet)
What I've tried:
1) restarting apple tv
2) resetting (pressing down and menu at the same time)
3) resetting my wifi router
4) changing ATV DNS to google 8.8.8.8
5) changing ATV DNS to auto
I'm pretty sure its not my wifi or router because netflix and etc work in HD with no pr

I have the same problem I use a BT home hub the old white one and a iPad 4 if I reboot the hub it works ok for pics and some I player content then when I try to load a certain program it crashes and I need to reboot the hub again. Is this a problem with the hub?

  • Apple TV Home Sharing iTunes music: an error occurred loading this content.

Hello - i have been searching for days for a similar thread, but haven't found this exact issue presented.
I have a 27" imac hosting my itunes library (movies and music) wired to an airport extreme. In my living room i have an apple tv 3rd gen wired to the same network. Everything works, netflix, itunes store, radio, youtube, etc. Home sharing movies that i have in my itunes library works, the whole movie will play without issue.
Here's the issue: when i play my music, playlists or otherwise, the apple tv will play a few songs (sometimes 2-3 songs, sometimes 20+ songs on the same playlist) and then, 2 seconds or so into a song, will stop and present the "an error occurred loading this content. please try again." message.
I have read all the theories about HDMI handshake issues, have tried all of the disconnect power and HDMI, etc, even though i don't think it's related since every other kind of media works. I really can't figure this one out, and i am wondering if it's a software issue. Has anyone on 6.1.3 had this issue or anything like it?

  • I've rented several movies over AppleTV, but can not download. I get a message "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later. " i've been trying for 3 days now... anyone with similar problem?

I have the same issue, to temporarily fix it go to Settings > General > Restart.  When it restarts the movie should play.  You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

  • "An error occurred loading this content" problem for rented movies

I have an AppleTV 2 connected via Ethernet to my BT Home Hub router and HDMI to my TV. My OSX (Lion), iTunes and AppleTV software are all up to date.
Everything works fine apart from renting movies. When I rent a movie, it shows I can play it rather quickly (too quick in my mind, I thought you had to wait for a certain amount to download) so this is strange. BUT when I do go to play it it states:
"An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later"
There is no other error to inidicate the issue. If I do try later (sometimes 2 days later) I still get the error.
I tried downloading Hall Pass, The Eagle and The Adjustment Bureau, all were the same.
I can stream YouTube and Radio from the net, I can stream music, pictures and video from my iMac OK. Its only rented movies.
I contacted Apple and they basically told me there is nothing wrong with the content so sent me some standard troubleshooting links none of which help, and said to post if here. So Apple will not help any more.
This used to work fine, some months ago I rented a couple of movies OK. The only things that would have changed since then are possibly upgrading AppleTV software (I dont know if I did this after renting a movie OK), and upgrading to Lion and to iTunes latest software.
Would any of these upgrades, especially to Lion, affect AppleTV rented movies???
    Thanks

Make sure DNS is set to ISPs (settings - general - network - DNS should be set to automatic). Trey rebooting ATV, and router. Make sure all are up to date.

  • I get "An error occurred loading this content" when trying to use AirPlay with some iPhone videos

The Apple TV seems to be playing everything else fine though. And I verified that the video is working on both sites. Any idea what's happening?

  • Rented movies on ATV2, can't play- An error occurred  loading this content.

When I attempt to play the two movies on ATV (Gen 2) I rented, I receive the error:
An error occurred loading this content. Try again later.
No other messages display, and it is not clear what to do next, or how to fix this issue.
I tried the following to solve:
    - latest updates for ATV (I'm on version 4.2.1(2100))
    - unplugging power, then plugging back in
    - stop "Home Share" on ATV, then turn back on
    - log out of iTunes account on ATV, then log back in
    I've yet to try:
    - reset on the ATV (on the General menu)
    - setting back to factory defaults (on the General menu)
I have not tried the above two, since the ATV is 2 days old and honestly did not think I needed to do this.
I have two Windows computers, one with Vista, one with version 7. Both have iTunes 10.2.1.1 installed. I have iTunes "Home Sharing on" for both computers, including the ATV. I can see my iTunes library on the ATV and play music; I can also play iTunes radio just fine with the ATV. I've been able to access my NetFlix account and stream movies just fine with NetFlix.
I was able to purchse the movies, but not able to play on the ATV; thus, I seem to be able to get to iTunes since I could at least rent movies.
Is there anything major to double check to make sure I've set everything up right? The book that came with ATV looked pretty plug-n-play, but I cannot get this to work (playing videos). I also have an iPhone that I just purchased- I've plugged this into the Vista computer to do sync's and get updates, but don't have it plugged in on a reqular basis.
What am I missing to try and troubleshoot?
    Thanks much!

I bought apple tv a few weeks ago. It worked to start with but was very slow and not really usable as when you picked a movie it would take anything from 20 mins to 6 hours to start. I assumed it would to memory but it doesn't so you have to sit and wait for it to start which renders it completely useless.
Then came a software update about a week ago. Since then it no longer loads rented movies. After I have paid for the movie it says press play. After that it says "unable to load content, try later"
I emailed apple support. They dont know what the problem is so they refunded my money and removed the films from my apple tv.
Apple also asked questions About my iTunes version etc which is completely stupid as this has nothing to do with itunes as apple tv is 100% independant and designed as a stand alone device.
My advise- I will get a refund and use the money to buy apple tv 1 from ebay as it has a hard drive and loads movies in the background rather than using a stream.

  • Apple TV and Home Sharing "An error occurred loading this content"

Recently I moved and switched my homeshare library from my Mac to a Window8 PC. I'm running the same network equipent, but the bandwidth to the internet was less in the new place then the old one so I wanted to store more on the PC. My bandwidth to the internet is slow at times so I like to download to my PC and watch the shows on my appletv. I thought it might be a Windows 8 issue, but I powered up my Mac Pro (2008) again and it has the same problem. I thought it might be a WIFI issue so I ran network wires, same issue. The only new thing I can think that happened was the apple tvs recently took a SW update, I'm not sure what version they had before. (tend not too look at versions when things are working).
    What I know:
All the shows play fine when I stream. (they can just take a 5-10m to start due to internet bandwidth, but they play fine).
Some shows play fine with homesharing (I have found no common thread between ones that do and don't).
All shows play fine on my PC in iTunes
Between my 2 AppleTvs (both running version 6.1) It is consistent which shows will play in home sharing and which will not. There have been a couple shows that will play on one but not the other and a couple shows that won't play one day but will the next day.
I have tried playing a show that will not play over and over for 10m. The status remains the same.
If the show has an option to resume playing or start from beginning. I'll be asked "Resume/Start over" first then be told "An error occurred loading this content"
The first time I try and play a show it takes 5-10 seconds to give me an error, repeat attempts typically take < 1 second to show the error.
Most shows on both my AppleTVs with home sharing return an error "An error occurred loading this content". I've tried running network wires, rebooting, holding menu and shift down to reboot, pulling power. I have examined the files that play versus ones that do not and they all appear to be in good working order. As an example. Episode 1, Season 2 of Big bang theroy plays fine, but Eposodes 2-5 don't, but then Episodes 6-8 do play ok. I find the same problem with Movies and Music Videos.
    Setup Facts:
Asus Wireless Router is connected to my DSL modem into the Ausus router WAN port. The ASUS router creates a network 192.168.1.X my DSL has a 192.168.0.1 IP address.
On the AppleTV it has a valid IP address and I'm fairly confident the network is ok since I have NO issues streaming any shows from the internet via Music, TV shows, Movies, Hulu, Netflicks, etc.
PC is running Windows 8 and I've disabled all power reduction settings to be always ON. (Again some shows play fine, the ones that play seem to always play). Running itunes version 11.1.5.5
All the shows are ones I've downloaded iTunes. None of the shows are handbraked home videos.
AppleTV version 6.1 for both AppleTVs.
    What I've tried:
    Power Clearing Devices
Switching locations of Apple TV with different TVs
Trying Mac Pro and Windows 8 Home Shares
    WiFi and networked
    Changing HDMI Cables.
Every TV I have, 1: Sony (new), 1 LG (about 2 yers old), 1 Samsung (about 5 years old).
    Any Adivce?

I have it working now.. BUT I still don't have 100% on both appleTVs. I'd guess it's closer to 99% (which is a huge improvement).
    What I've done since:
First I verified that I had open on my firewall the correct ports.  I use AVG Internet security so verified I had it setup ok. (this was after I tried a few times with it off). (this produced no improvement)
    TCP
    direction both ways
    local ports 3689
    remove port(s): all
    remote addresses:all
    UDP
    direction both ways
    local ports 5353
    remove port(s): all
    remote addresses:all
Might have been over kill, but I assigned both AppleTVs a fixed IP 192.168.0.200 and 201. by their MAC address on my router. I then added them to the whitelist in AVG Internet Security
I saved changes and rebooted my PC, AppleTVs and PCs
It still didn't work. (I described the above because when I tried removing them no shows played, so more an FYI if 100% of your shows don't play).
I then downloaded itunes (11.5) same version I was running.
I used 7-zip (winrar should work too) to unzip the file iTunes64Setup.exe into a folder iTunes64Setup. This is important, which I'll explain in the next steps.
I then ran the iTunes64Setup.exe and selected repair.
it then told me it could not find iTunes64.msi. which I gave it the directory iTunes64Setup that I had expanded the iTunes64Setup.exe into that directory. (Really apple??? This one anoyed me that it was in the EXE but I had to manually expand it and put it somewhere for you to refind )
It completed the setup and I rebooted my PCs and AppleTVs again.
I went to a show that was consistently not playing and it worked on both TVs. I'd say 99% are working fine now. What's special about the remaining shows I do not know. If the file was corrupt I would not expect to be able to play it on another appletv.
The few files that don't play:
I'm now convienced that my network is fine. with 99% playing ok. If it was an intermitent problem with the network I'd expect that re-attempts to play the shows would produce different outcomes.
    What have I tried:
I've done a factory reinstall of the appleTV. (my advise is don't waste you time, it did nothing except eat up 30m of my time watching redownload and then entering passwords).
I've tried deleting the shows that don't play (which do play on my computer) and redownloading them (same outcome) (again, my advice would be don't waste your time). When I did a check of the files they redownloaded identically with only the creation dates different.
Open to move things to try. Any ideas anyone?

  • Apple TV 2G "An error occurred loading this content. Try again Later"

I recently got an Apple TV 2G and also upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion. Last night I was checking out what the apple tv can do, and found an issue. I have several movies and tv shows that are in my itunes account on my Macbook Pro. When I try and play them on the apple tv, their thumb nails come up, once you select the movie it takes to to the spinning wheel of death for about 5 minutes and the comes back with an error stating "An error occured loading this content. Try again Later." I've tried reseting it, un plugging it, restarting my computer. The funny thing is that the apple tv can see the movies and can even see the thumb nail for the image but it just wont play. I also tried to airplay and it works great. Which makes me believe its not a wifi issue or a firewall issue either. I've read a few other discussion boards about the same issue with renting movies/tv shows. But theses movies are all on my home computer, and play fine on my computer too. I also tried to see if it was a certain type, but ones that I uploaded onto my computer and purchased from the itunes store both won't work. I was also watching hulu plus and that works great, so streaming doesnt seem to be a problem. If someone could please give me a few pointers on what to do before I go crazy that would be great.

I get the same response and I rented two different movies  1st thinking that the Kings Speech was just over sold. So Rented and paid for a second movie.  So I tried something else I and get the same error message and I have been trying to get the movie to download.
I have been at this for about three hours.
"An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."
    Not good!
    How about fixing this Apple?

  • An error occurred loading this content. ATV3

rent movie, hit play and immediately it says error occurred loading this content please try again later. Not even trying to load. Network has a great connection.
Already had the movie rented for 2 days now, restarted it, reset it, cursed at it, looked for other fixes. Plays everything in HD on youtube...
    any Ideas?
    Target practice...

So I bought my hubby the AppleTv for Xmas and wanted to show him all the cool stuff it could do ordered a movie. After having the same problem listed here and reading all the post and sending an email to itunes tech support only to get an answer asking the order # before they could help I decided to take in all the advice given here from the users and I set my vizio hd tv setting to 720dpi in the settings button( audio & video - last selection of tv resolution: for the lo techs) but that did not fix it untill I went to the Itunes store settings and changed it there too. (video resolution for the lo techs) I then was able to view my movie. I will now let the techie know that the order number was no where to be found and I fixed it myself with all your help and advise them of the problem as if they do not know it yet . BIG THANKS TO ALL YA'

  • Apple tv "an error occured loading this content"

My Apple TV (2) was working fine for a year. But now when I try to watch one of my movies from iTunes, the movie looks like it wants to start playing for about 5 seconds and then I only get the message "an error occured loading this content. Try again later." And then nothing in Apple TV works, including my remote control.
Can someone help me with this problem? Thank you.

Is the computer set to sleep, is the video available to play in iTunes.
This spurious error often used to mean iTunes couldn't find teh content ecen though there was an entry for it in the library (item manually deleted, file on a powered down or disconnected external drive....).

  • Apple TV error "An error occured loading this content. Try again later."

I have spent literally hundreds of hours taking my DVD/Blu Ray library and creating MP4's which I have then saved on a 2TB external hard drive.  I did this so that I could play them on my Apple TV.  I then spent more time "moving" them into my iTunes library where they can then be seen via my Apple TV.  However, when I go to play one I get the following error:
An error occured loading this content. Try again later.
I tried it with numerous MP4's and the result was the same.  I have a brand new Apple TV, I'm using Lion 10.7.4 if it matters.  My iTunes version is 10.6.3.  My external drive is a Western Digital 2 TB.  All of the files are in MP4 format.
I can play them through iTunes with no problems.  They show up, I click on them, they play.  However, there is something that seems to be wrong between the Apple TV and the computer I'm using home sharing with.  I CAN play all of my music via the Apple TV.  I have not had a problem there.  I assume the external is the problem, not the drive itself but how I have it set up.
Any help or suggestions would be so great.  Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • Purchased a movie.  Trying to watch it through Apple TV.    Receiving error "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."  I have tried to play the movie several times but still get the same message.

I purchased a movie using Apple TV.  I keep receiving the same error message "An error occurred loading this content"

There may be network issues or issues with Apple's servers.
Personally I would unplug and restart AppleTV.  If there are still problems and you can access the iTunes store sections to browse I would contact itunes store support.

  • Apple TV 6.1 Netflix "an error occurred loading this content"

Since the upgrade a few weeks ago, my 3rd gen Apple TV (6.1) hs been giving me "an error occurred loading this content" message when viewing a program. It can be at any time -- from a few seconds in, to a few episodes before it occurs and seems to be getting more frequent. I checked by connection speed while it was running and was getting 55-57Mbps, so I don't think it's the ISP; I've restarted several times, including pulling the power. I finally did a reset -- still getting the problem.
I'm assuming it's Netflix, since SkyNews, Hulu, iTunes, YouTube, and my home sharing are all fine. i was wondering if there were more having this issue -- it looks like it was common with the last iteration of OS. It's not happening on the first gen iPad, nor on the iPad2 or 3, or the iPhone 5 in the house.

Doesn't do anything. Restarted the ATV: stil happens. Reset it: still happens. Reset the router: still happens. It's a 3rd Gen ATV and up to date on its software. It started only a few months ago and has been getting consistently worse, to the point that I have to Airplay Netflix from an iPad through the ATV. The issue does not occur on three different iterations of the iPad, nor an iPhone 5, which tells me this is an Apple TV issue that needs fixed.
This seems to be a common complaint among Apple TV users, and unfortunately, there's not much in the way of programming options on the device (Hulu is pretty close to useless for children's programming.) It might behoove Apple to shift it and fix the issue.
I'll wait a little while to see if it gets rectified, but I suspect I'll be buying a new Roku.
