Problems with PNG colors in illustrator

I'm beyond frustrated with illustrator's png export at this point, contacted adobe customer service 3-4 times with no answer, already made a post about this with no solution, here is the problem; everytime I export from illustrator as a png the color changes. It doesn't matter if I am working in RGB or cmyk, the color will always change, typically the colors just look faded/ less saturated. There is no way for me to match the color of an exported jpeg to an exported png. This is a problem because when I give my clients their logo in png I need to import it into photoshop or preview to change the color coding so that it matches the previous jpegs I would sent them, now while working with packaging (cmyk document) the png export looks pretty faded, but it prints fine. Is this typical? My in illustrator colors look fine and are the same as my jpeg exports, the only thing that has a different color look is png exports, no matter if I choose embed color profile (save for web), assign profile, bascially any color choosing option in illustrator. I'm wondering what does everyone else do when their client wants the logo in a png? Do you just work around this with assigning a profile in a program other than illustrator?

I am afraid that the workaround is all you can do at the moment; open the png file in Photoshop and assign sRGB profile (you can set the Ask when Opening for missing profiles in the Photoshop color settings).
There is no way to embed a color profile in a .png file in Illustrator (like you can in Photoshop's Save for Web dialog)
But that looks like a good feature request:

  • Problems with RGB colors in Illustrator

    Hello,
i have a problem with saving my artwork which is done in illustrator in PDF file. This artwork needs to be saved in PDF in RGB colors. It seams  that I cannot do this. Originaly artwork was done in CMYK. Option Edit/Edit Colors/conver to RBG is not working that is this option is not possible.
Any suggestions please. Printing company cannot process it if PDF is not in RGB colors.
    Thank you in advance.

But there is no difference in either case as the file will not be overwritten.
True that the file will not be overwritten if you're careful not to do a regular save, but there is a difference.
When you switch from CMYK to RGB document mode in Illustrator, AI simply converts to whatever you've set as your RGB working space. Yes, of course, you can go into Color Settings and change your workspace profile if need be, but now you're monkeying with settings that you might not want to be changing frequently.
Why not, instead, take advantage of a feature that's there specifically to deal with workflow issues like this?
If the printer requires a specific RGB space that's different from your normal working space, it's much easier to select it from the destination color dropdown during PDF creation. If you'll be creating more files for this particular printer, simply record a custom PDF (job options) preset.
Even if one chooses to do it the Wade Zimmerman way, one should make sure to look at the color panel during PDF creation to make sure no unwanted space conversions are taking place.

  • DW CS3 problem with PNG-8 images in Design View?

DW CS3 (build 3481) on XP seems to have problems with PNG-8 images, specifically trying to display them in design view.
I had a very simple image that was able to be exported by Fireworks CS4 as PNG-8 using 4 colors (no transparency) for a tiny file size under 250 bytes.
DW could not display it at all, or even recognize it, reporting it was 0 x 0 in size. I published the page anyway, and it looked fine in the browser.
I upped the number of colors to 32, and DW could then display it in design view in the page I was working on.
I'm still having problems with other PNG-8 images. The attached file "temp.jpg" is a screenshot showing part of the design view in DW.
The smaller image on the left of the banner is "58_certificate_of_discharge.png" (attached), and the larger image below is used as the background of the DIV containing the form,"compassbk.png" (also attached).
These images all look fine in the browser, but terrible in DW.
    I'm stumped as to why.
    Thanks in advance.

According to a different discussion, the images that are stuck as "Queued" are showing a bug in the virus scanning on the forums.
Now trying the recommended 'camera icon' method...
    Looks like it worked.
Now compare what it looks like in DW CS3 in the design view:
    It's a 16 color PNG-8 made in Fireworks CS4 with no transparency, size is 113 x 58, ending up at 1.71K.
If this is a repeatable problem in CS3, is there any hope of it being resolved, or am I stuck with upgrading to CS4 as my only option (assuming it's fixed in CS4)?
    Thanks.

  • Problems with "no color" in the "Fill and Stroke"

I am having problems with “no color” in the “Fill and Stroke” function of Flash CS4 Pro.
I had been using CS4 for 10 days and everything worked fine. Then I tried experimenting with various color combinations (along with “no color”) for “Fill and Stroke” for a simple button. Suddenly CS4 locked up on me while I was working with the “color panel”. A second color panel appeared in the upper left corner and the program was not responding. All I could do was to end the CS4 task.
After that, whenever I created even a simple rectangle, at first the colors would appear as indicated for “Fill and Stroke”, but when I selected the object to see its properties, either the stroke or the fill color box would have a red slash line, indicating a “no color”, and I couldn’t select the color box to change it using the ink bottle tool, although the other box worked fine.
Rebooting did not help. So I uninstalled CS4 (and didn’t keep the preferences), rebooted, then reinstalled it. The problem was still there. Logging on as another user didn’t help. I tried restoring the Windows system to before I installed CS4 and resinstalling it and that didn’t work. I have a disfunctional CS4 now and I don’t know what to do to fix it. Please help me. Thank you.

Have you updated flash to 10.0.2?  Have you played around with a bunch of different selections, objects, and so forth to see if this box is always incorrect?  I think there's some particular selection (order of selecting things, and so on), where the color swatches in one location don't work as expected. However, it should not happen all the time and from what I recall it was fairly easy to work around (I can't even figure out what this was - so probably not it, as it seems hard to run into or perhaps now fixed).
Also make sure you have the stroke selected - if you don't have everything selected, either the fill or stroke will show no color and dim depending on the selection.

  • Trapping problems with spot colors

    MAC 10.5.4 CS3
I have had two books present similar problems with one of our printers. Both books are 2 color. The first is 2 spot colors and the second is spot and black. The problem is that the traps are showing up as white. It looks like anything that is trapped has a white stoke applied. One book has headers using the spot ink for the text, in a black box. These are all getting the white outline around the text. The other book has the the darker spot for text overprinting screened boxes of the lighter spot. The overprinted text looks ok.
I had previously posted about the illustrations in the 2 spot book and have been able to take care of the issue regarding Transparency vs. postscript. But as we are still having this issue with some text and there is no transparency used I am wondering if there is some setting I can adjust to fix this.

How is the trapping being applied? Did you set it yourself in InDesign?
I think the default for InDesign is to use an InRIP trapping. And I always thought that was not part of ID's setup.
Maybe I'm wrong. So let me know.

  • Problem with RED color in Aperture, iPhoto but NOT Preview

I'm having a weird display problem in aperture and iPhoto, as well as in the small thumbnail preview in the Get Info window in the Finder: photos with large areas of red appear over saturated and blotchy, while the same image will be displayed fine in Preview, Mail, Safari etc.
I have checked with a number of people using OSX on G4/G5 and Intel machines and running 10.4.9 and they ALL have the same problem.
An example of the problem can be found in this picture: http://oroux.com/trucs/red_bug.png
Left is the image in Preview, middle in Finder's Get Info window and right in iPhoto...
I've checked the profiles in ColorSync Utility and there is no problem on that side.
    2.4GHz core2duo MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I don't see how it could be a profile problem, since other people (see post above) have the same problem with their pictures. Also, I did some shots over the week-end, including a girl in a bright red dress and the dress shows the same oversaturated red blotches. The image was taken in RAW with my Nikon D80, I didn't do any changes in Aperture, and I reset the colorsync profile of the MacBookPro and DELL 24" screens to their factory defaults.
And when I display the fullscreen image in Aperture, I can see for a split second the CORRECT image, then it does some "color magic" and the details goes down the drain.
Plus, if you look at this image (http://oroux.com/trucs/red/testrouge/10-4-9qt7-1-6/comparaison.png, it's big, 2MB) showing screen captures of a detail of a photo in six different OSX apps, you'll see that not two display it in the same way, which is a real problem.

  • Premiere Pro CC Problem With PNG MOV Quicktime Format

A While Back, i posted a problem with Premiere Pro CC that it would not open MOV with a PNG Type Format. the Error was always "There is No video or Audio Stream".
Frustrated, i reverted back to Premiere Pro CS6 in which the files opened fine. i had Forgotten an effect i used in PRO CC so went pack in and surprisingly the files opened. I finished my Project and moved on until Last night, when editing, the same thing happened in Premiere Pro CC, it wouldnt impoort the PNG Format MOV files i have for traqnsitions (Rampant Media Color transistions) Curious, i again opened PPRO CS6, and low and Behold, when i re-opened PPRO CC, the files were read properly.
So there appears to be some form of Bug in PPRO CC on a windows 7 64 bit Ultimate? i can reproduce this over and over againj. i am just throwing this out there incase this happens to anyone else. hope this helps, i hope Adobe Premiere Pro CC Engineers see this and can fix this bug. thanks, have a happy too da looo, i shall blow you a fanfare!

  • Problems with PNGs... Overall compression + Running out of memory!

We're having a number of issues with PNGs while working on our first iPhone project, and any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Our game is using a large number of PNG assets, some of which are full-frame (though the full-frame files tend to mostly be transparent/use alphas, though apparently that doesn't help memory issues much).
We're running into two huge problems -
    1) We're running out of memory on device when calling to these full frame sequences, which tend to be anywhere from 10-40 frames each at anywhere from 50 to 250kb in size.
    2) Our overall package size is huge, sitting at around 60mb. I've already compressed the pngs through photoshop to the best of my ability, and I'm not having much luck with downloadable compressors like pngcrush. IS there a way to compress all the pngs through xcode/c++/objective C? The programmers are informing me right now that the only compression possible is whatever I apply directly to my pngs on my end - nothing through code.
I'm stumped as to how I'm seeing seemingly-complex apps with plenty of content at 1-5mbs, and running smoothly with full-frame animations. I'm imagining the problem is that we're not using a proprietary engine to properly manage things, but I'm wondering if there is a simple solution.
    Thanks in advance, guys!
P.S. - Already done a bunch of research on my own, and not having much luck. Just wondering if there is something obvious that both the programmers and I are missing!

    * Make image frame smaller? A fully transparent border around an image is pure overhead -- there is still data in the actual pixels (even though you cannot see them), plus the transparent border itself. All it needs is an x/y coordinate and a tiny code adjustment.
    * Use less transparency bits? Perhaps you could do with 1-bit transparency on some images. It'll use 1/8 times the memory (well, globally).
    * Use less colors? 24 bit color might compress down to 16 bits without visual artifacts (esp. when you don't have lots of gradients). Perhaps even 8 bit palettized.
    * Make images smaller? You might be able to get away with enlarging some images.
Just a few things you could check right away, without major rewrites.

  • Problem with photos' colors

    Hi,
I have a problem with colors of photos which I'm using in a. InDesign document.
I've created a 20 page catalog, with first and last pages for the front and back of the cover. I placed one photo on the first page and second on the last page. When I opened them earlier on in Photoshop they were matching perfectly, so I figured that it will be the same in InDesign. When I placed them in Indesign it turned out that the photo on the first page has a different color saturation (lower) than the one on the last page. It looks as if the first page was converted to CMYK and the last page was still in RGB mode (the photos were initially in RGB).
I decided to change the color preferences of the photos in photoshop to CMYK and saved thm again for InDesign, but it didn't help (I also checked all of the doc and color preferences in InDesign and all looked fine). It seems that colors are different on the last page only. Is it possible that it has a different color preferences set up? I'm a new InDesign user and I would be gratefull for You help :-)

It sounds like you have transparency of some sort (effects, drop shadow, tranparent image?) on the front and not on the back, and that the transparency blend space is set to CMYK instead of RGB while your image is RGB.
Edit > Transparency Blend Space > Document RGB

  • Sync problems with ipod color

Hi I'm having problems copying music onto my ipod. I am running iTunes 5 with the latest iPod software (1.2 from ipod updater 2005-09-23) on a windows XP platform with Service pack 2. My iPod is connected to my computer through USB 2.0.
When I plug my ipod to my computer, everything works fine, it gets recognized, I see the "do not disconnect" icon on the ipod and it starts syncing but the problem is, way before it finishes tranfering the songs, my ipod comes back to the main menu. I can read in iTunes that the transfer is complete and that it's ok to disconnect my ipod, even though it was NOT complete!
This really bugs me because I can't put all my songs onto my ipod and have to disconnect/reconnect it all the time to actually put my songs in it. What can I do to keep the transfer "alive" ?? please someone help me.

    Hi,
I have the same type of problem with my iPod 20GB color running XP Home SP2. This happens when I import a large number of songs (over 100 or so) from my CD's in iTunes at one time. It will disconnect and then restart the transfer over again several times. I figured out that when your iPod is actually connected and doing the transfer, if you right click on the iPod (example: Joe Smiths iPod) in the iTunes left side menu, and click on "update" every 40 or 50 songs or so it will transfer everything without disconnecting. I discovered this yesterday while transferring about 270 songs to my iPod after it tried to automatically do it about three times. I don't know if this is the "real" fix for this but it worked for me. The problem doesn't appear to happen with a couple of CD's worth of songs.
    Good luck!

Hi  - Go ahead and try the steps in this document.  It will walk you through cleaning the contacts on both the cartridge and in the carriage.  What can happen over time is ink residue can accumulate on the contacts preventing the ink cartridges from working properly.  If this doesn't resolve the issue, try setting the cartridge with the nozzles face down on a damp paper towel for about 45 seconds just to resolve any problems with the ink nozzles.
    Hope that helps.

Hi Arthur, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sometimes you need to habd uninstall hp drivers, but Might try these two...
Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341?viewlocale=en_US
Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...
    http://www.fixamac.net/software/index.html
Do this before & after any install...
Safe Boot. One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Problem with DNG Color Profiles in Lightroom 5.4

    Hello folks,
I recently updated from LR 5.3 to Lightroom 5.4 and since then I am having problem when using dng color profiles which were created with Colorchecker Passport. Every time I use such a profile which was created for my Nikon D 800 I get very greenish tones in the pictures.
I use Windows 7 Pro on a HP Z 210 Workstation. The monitor is a hardware-calibrated Quato which was recently calibrated.
Does anyone have this problem too and - if yes - know how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    Yours, Albert
PS: As English isn't my mother tongue I apologize for any mistakes in the text above.

    Hello Andrew,
I do have a Nikon D 800 and a Fuji X-E1. I haven's noticed a problem with the Fuji so far. I think I will recalibrate my monitor tomorrow and see if the problem still exists.
I can supply raws and DNG profiles but I don't know where I should upload them - I suggest I could do it on my own webspace. Would that be ok?

  • Problem with blue color in Photoshop CS4 after calibrating monitor

Hi to all! I would appreciate if someone can help me!
Before some days I calibrated my monitor with Pantone Huey Pro and after that I find out that photoshop doesn't show blue color corectly. I create a blue (0,0,255) page and it looks a bit like violet, while I don't have any problems with red and green (which are perfect), or with other programs (other programs display blue and all colors correctly). But when I save this blue page and open it with a different program I see the real blue color. So the problem is that during editing in Photoshop blue color isn't correct, it's a bit violet.
Can anyone tell me why blue color doesn't behave properly in Photoshop? Is there any setting I should change in Photoshop Color Settings?
I use sRGB on my camera, and sRGB in Photoshop (North America General Purpose 2, sRGB IEC61966-2.1, U.S. Web coated (SWOP) v2, Dot Gain 20%,  Dot Gain 20).
    Thanks for your time!
    George

    Thanks for your quick responce!
I update Huey and Photoshop and did the calibration again but it didn't fix the problem. Is it possible that the calibrator doesn't work properly?
My monitor isn't very new, so I don't think it has wide gamut display.
When you say that "if your display is not truely sRGB" you mean that maybe the profile created Huey isn't correct? I have done many times the calibration and the result is always the same.
I think that Paintshop uses color management, too, shouldn't it display the same wrong blue color if Huey's profile is wrong?
How can I check if Huey works properly? Maybe I should try it on a different PC?
    Thanks for your time!!!
    Best regards,
    George

After reading others' problems with Word, I feel lucky I've got only this small one: I can't change the color of fonts! When I click the arrow next to the Colored A, I get a blank menu! I've found a few others with this problem on the web, but no clear, simple solutions. Anybody got one? I'd really appreciate it!
