Problems with Smart Folders

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Bought a new MB Pro and directed Aperture to the library on an external HD. It opened and looked the same, all the folders in the right places, etc. When I click on a smart folder, nothing comes up and the setting from before aren't there. I can't delete the album and create a new one and I can't adjust the old one. Any suggestions?

I've repaired my permissions and still cant delete any of the smart albums. I cant use them either. Any suggestions? Tried dragging them to the trash and some went, but the albums still remain in the project and some left the project, but won't leave the trash. I empty it and they're still there.

A problem with Smart Folders, I can't seem to get it to work.

Hi, I'm trying to make a smart folder that will include all folders which contain a certain word in the comment section, but it's not working. For example in the Comment section (in Get Info) of folders that contain films by Martin Scorsese I've typed "Directed by Martin Scorsese". Then, I made a Smart folder and as search criteria I've added "Comment contains Martin Scorsese", but nothing appears in the folder. I was hoping that the smart folder will show all the folders which contain Martin Scorsese in the Comment section but it's not working. However, when I type "Martin Scorsese" in the Spotlight those folders appear? What am I doing wrong? Please help

After a bit of work I have found the solution to searching for a comment.
1. Open a finder window and do a search for a comment.
2. Save the finder window.
3. The saved window will function correctly. You may not set up a search window using the criteria functions and get a result. It must be done in this sequence
If you want to find a folder only with a comment
1. Open a finder window and in the search window type "folder comment:xxxx" where xxxx is the comment.
2. Save the finder window.

Feature Request: Tagging coupled with Smart Folders

Would love to see the next version of Safari add tagging, as has been mentioned here before, but more importantly I'd like to see Smart Folder capability added as well.
I'm a big fan of Smart Folders in Mail; makes it easy to file -- I just drop everything in my "Saved Mail" folder, then set up the Smart Folders as needed (e.g., "Client Mail", "Mom", "Amazon - Sold, Ship Now", etc.
Applying the same process to Safari bookmarks would be wonderful. For instance, let's say I have a bookmark for the plastic modeling website Starship Modeler (starshipmodeler.com); I could tag it with "Modeling" (obvious), "Shopping" (since it has a store), "Sci-Fi", and then even more specific tags like "Star Wars" or "2001 A Space Odyssey". I could then make a smart folder that would find bookmarks tagged only with "shopping" and "Star Wars", and it'd show up there. But it would also show up in my smart folder just for "modeling", etc.
Right now I have hundreds of bookmarks if not more. I've tried a number of tagging programs but none really fit the bill. Native tagging, along with smart folders, would make Safari far and ahead my favorite browser (which it already is, but more so, eh?).

Problem with smart Playlist after Upadte to 10.6 - PLEASE UPDATE SOON, Backup not possible

Is it so difficult to let things, that are quite good, just there where they are??
After updating my iTunes, OS Lion and some other stuff 2 days ago, I have now a big problem with a smart Playlist in iTunes 10.6. Before updating all things was right.
The problem: Now, AFTER UPDATE, my Playlist ist totally empty!
Before they were over 2000 songs in it.
And because this is my major-smart-Playlist, which is established to my whole other Smart-Playlists, the other ones are also empty.
And this is not the first time Apple.
It´s good, if you - apple guys - just added something like new categories to sort of music (like "iCloud-Status" or some others).
BUT WHAT DID YOU THINK, WHEN YOU DELETED THE OPTION "VALUATION" - mh??? (I hope in english this is the word that used in Itunes - my iTunes is in German)
So I don´t mean the "lines" - I don´t know the right english word - when you see the music. There you can fade in "Album-Valuation" - new - AND "Valuation" - old.
But I mean in the options of the smart-playlists - THERE ARE ONLY "Album-Valuation"!!!!! What the heck....
EVERYONE NEEDS THE NORMAL Song-"Valuation" - and not the album (because normaly you decide by each track how good he is and not by the whole album).
You can let the Album ones in it, BUT PLEASE BRING THE NORMAL ONE BACK.
So, in my case, I tried to go back to iTunes 10.5.3 with my nice Time-Machine-Backup. So, but I couldn´t because there came a bug-message that said something like "It is not possible because OSX need the Programm".
What is that?
I also couldn´t delete the iTunes app from my app-folder.
So, and now?
I had to totally restore my volume !
What is that for a solution?!
So please think before you delete any functions, who is needed by many people.
And if you did, maybe ask some users, that uses for example smart-playlists alot, if there is a problem about some changes, you want to add.
I hope anyone from Apple read this and also answer me. Because I´m upset about that.
In every iTunes-Update I am concerned about what will be after the update.
For example in the past, there was more than one changes in iTunes with the Valuation. First, there was just whole stars to set for every song. Than, after a long time, Apple decided to give the options for also half stars. So I said to myself - hey that´s great, that I don´t have to use external apps anymore to set these. So I did this to many of my songs (and that´s many).
Than - after an Update - wow, all half stars rating are gone ! Great Apple, really great.
I was VERY upset.
So after an other update, the opportunity to give half stars are back.
I thought, my god, it is so difficult to talk with other guys, that worked before on iTunes if I am new or just to look if there was already a change in that part of the app???
So, apple guys, please don´t think that I want to attack you. But please be more carefull in the future. I hope that I don´t have to worry too much about so stuff. I really have better things to do with my time.

I love my new Smart-TV! However, there seem to be some problems with the included apps.
1. Vudu Movies fails to connect regularly although the wireless network connection is functioning properly.
2. Flickr app included in Vudu Apps sends me to a non-existent web page to obtain a password.

Yes, my Netflix app is working perfectly. Very impressed with the quality of the streaming!
My biggest annoyance is Vudu Movies! I connected yesterday afternoon on the second attempt. Last night I tried 10 times without success!
I am going to hard-wire the TV to my local network and see if that makes any improvements as compared to the Wi-Fi connection.

Problem with smart view

hi, there seems to be a problem with the smart view very often that suddenlly the hyperion tab goes invisible and when i go to the addin and check the hypeiron tab then the hypeiron tab does not appers but a toolbar appears in the excell and all the links are deleted
now when i create the essbase link and try to connect in the end the excell shuts down with unexpected error now after i re install the smart view the tab appears and workls finebut then suddenly after somdays the same thing happpens
what could be the problem, i am using excell 2007

How do I fix problem with Smart Sharpen & CR as filter

Smart Sharpen doesn't apply (or apply completely). Photoshop CC on Mac OSX 10.7.5
new merged layer > Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen > adjust sliders > toggle Preview > click OK (progress bar) > nothing or 50% applied
1. Smart Sharpen (SS) shows changes from sliders in SS dialog box AND on underlaying image in PS but checking and unchecking the Preview box only toggles the image in PS, the SS dialog box does not change.
2. After clicking 'OK' SS does not seem to apply at normal ranges but when the radius is cranked up to super ugly it appears to apply at about 50% (Opacity and Fill are at 100%).
Related Problem:
After using 'Camera Raw as a filter' on a new merged layer, then adding a layer mask, and then painting with a brush at 100% opacity and Flow, it appears that only about 50% opacity is applied to the mask from the brush.

I did a lot of such hymn things in the past, but I was alway working on the scans in Photoshop, like adjusting, retouching spots and cropping. And I was always seperating those images to be more flexible so I never run into such a problem.
I am always scanning in a higher quality level than I would need, I scan it in color, this allows me to eliminate paper color easily, even if I need 1-bit images at the end, I do it in color, so I can also turn the image.
I did once run into a similar problem with a scan I have got from a copier-scanner machine (it was not a song). But saving as PSD resolved my problem.
So I would suggest: Open your files in Photoshop, resave them as PSD files and use those instead. If you use 1-bit images (which is fine for this type of images) you should use a resolution equal to the printer's resolution.

Problems with Smart List in Forms.

Hi,
I set Smart List in my Account Dimension.
In HP Documentation (9.2 and 9.3.1) I read that is posible to allow or not allow a user using Smart List for a specific member of account through a form option.
I already used this option in HP 9.2, but in 9.3.1 it do not exist this option in dataform, even so in 9.3.1 documentation says that it's posible.
I wanna Know if someone have used this option in 9.3.1.
I have been thinking in re install Planning or duplicate member that I need use sometimes with Smart List and sometimes writing a number.
Any idea???

Help with Smart Folders please!

First of all, I use a Swedish OS so I'm not sure of exactly what everything is called in English, but I've tried to do approximate translations below.
I want to set up a Smart Folder that gives me a quick list of any Logic Express projects that have been edited during the last one or two weeks. That would seem like a simple task, but I honestly can't find a way to list ONLY the projects and nothing else.
At the top of the New Smart Folder window, I've selected that it should only search in the folder where all the projects are. Then I tried to do a search criteria, "type: folders", and "last edit: last two weeks". Surely, I get a list of all the project folders that have been edited during the last two weeks, BUT I also get all the sub folders within those folders. Those folders are automatically created by Logic, and hold sound files, back up files etc that are needed for each project.
Since these folders are always named either "Audio Files", "Bounces", "Freeze Files", "Song Backups" or "Undo Data" (I think), I thought it would be possible to make a few "name: is not:", and then the above. But it shows out I can't choose "is not"! I can only choose "is" or "includes" or other variations of that!
After giving up on that method, I thought that maybe there is a way to make it list ONLY the top level folders in the parent folder? But I can't seem find one... and it wouldn't really be optimal anyway since I some times group related projects into one folder.
So then I thought that I should be able to list the actual song documents. It's not optimal either, since I would prefer to get access to the whole project folder immediately, but it's better than nothing... Sure enough, I change "type: folders" to "type: other...: LogicExpress Song". Works, but once again I get a lot of hits that I don't want, namely the automatic back-up files that are created for each project. They are always called the same as the original file, but with an added ".00"... so if the project is called "My Song.lso", the back up would be called "My Song.00.lso". So once again, I'm left with the problem of not being able to search for "name: is not:" or "name: does not include:"!
Please help me solve this! I can't believe there is no way to do this! I can't possibly be forced to include a certain word in all my project folders only to be able to search for them? That's silly!

Problems with Public Folders in Exchange 2010

Last month I upgraded my servers from 2000 to 2010. The route I took for exchange was 2000 -> 2003 -> 2010. Everything went fairly smooth and I have had no real problems until this week. (I have uninstalled the older exchange servers.) I have been
trying to clean out some of the remnants that have been left over from the older servers (for whatever reason the uninstall did not remove the information on the new server). I used ASDI edit to remove some old information that was pointing to the old exchange
server (First Administration Group I think it was called).
After that I upgraded to SP1 and Rollup 1. The Public folder database no longer appears under Organization Configuration, Mailbox. I am not sure if it was there after my deletion or not, so I am unsure if the problem is caused by my deletions or the upgrade.
I followed the instructions found here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727370%28EXCHG.80,printer%29.aspx . The CN=Public folders was found in CN=Folder Hierarchies. However
msExchOwningPFTree is greyed out, so I cannot update it. I have tried to delete it and remake it, same thing.

Also, the CN=InformationSore is empty. Is this normal?
Now I am assuming I deleted something that I shouldn't have.

Tried that, I get the following when I go to the Public Folder Management Console:
Cannot complete the operation because there isn't an available public folder database on server
And even if I did that how does that help me retrieve my missing information?

Problems with smart sharpening in Photoshop CC 14.2

When I open the smart sharpening filter, the hand symbol pops up and Photoshop doesn't do anything anymore. With Ctrl - Alt - Delete I have to shut down the program. All other filters work correctly. I also removed and installed Photoshop CC again, but the problems are still the same.
Can someone advise?

Smart Sharpen was one of the things tweaked in 14.2 so it may have been to do with your Preferences > Performance settings. (In case it goes wrong again)

Problem with smart guides in CS5 with converting type object to outlines.

Hi There,
I recently upgraded to Illustrator CS5, and am having some issues with the smart guides. I create some type with the text tool, then convert that type object to outlines. Now, when I want another graphical object to "snap" to any of the anchors of the outlined text graphic, the smart guides don't kick in! The problem does not seem to occurr if I make a standard graphic with other tools, only when I create a graphic from a type object. I need to be able to snap to graphical objects that are created via the convert type to outlines command. Has anybody experienced this issue before? It's kinda frustrating.
The issue didn't seem to happen in CS3, and I've noticed the design of the smart guides is a bit different in the CS5 version as well. Am I missing something?

When you switched to CS5 did you turn on view >> snap to Point
If your snapping tolernace is set to a small value, you may need to zoom in more to get snapping to work, or just increase the value. Also make sure you have the appropriate items checked (eg:Anchor Path Labels)

Problems with icloud folders and sent items

Hey,
I have done an extensive search but cannot find the answer to my query. I have been a long time user of apple’s email service and thus have an @mac.com/@me.com and an @icloud.com email address. Recently icloud has been playing up and is no longer storing my sent emails in the sent email file but is creating a smart “Trash” folder with a “sent Items” folder in that and this is where my sent items are coming up.
This is not only annoying but is also mucking up my ability to sync properly with Postbox
Does anyone know what on earth is going on?

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), you probably have the problem described here:

If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it’s almost certainly too late to solve it as described in the article.

Problems with smart albums iphoto 08

Hallo,
I can't create a new smart album. When I try to create an album there are no options to create a rule.
When I try to edit one of my smart albums the part where I can edit the rules doesn't open. Sometimes iphoto shuts down at this point.
I allready deleted iphoto.plist - but nothing changed.
When I start on the same computer with another account iphoto works without problems.
Any help?

This tells us that iPhoto is ok and the problem is local to the specific account or Library. Let's see if it's the Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Exclude folders in a search with smart folders

setting up a smart folder or doing a search, using the "kind", the only choice is "kind is". I would like to exclude folders. How could you do that? Or if I say kind is documents it finds text files but excludes Excel files. Basically I want everything but folders.

When you bring up the Find window, just leave kind as any, then in the "Search for:" box at the top type in your search term, and also add what you want to exclude with "NOT" and whatever it may be. Thus if I wanted to find all files containing "geranium" in the file name or content, I would enter this:
geranium NOT Folder
I would get all files with geranium in the file name, plus all html files mentioning geranium, as well as text files with the word in the content, but would not get any folders. If I wanted to also exclude certain other things I would arrange window in List view, click on the "Kind" column and note what other files are showing up that I'm not interested in. For instance, suppose I don't want aliases either. I would then amend my Search for field to exclude those as well:
geranium NOT Folder NOT alias
You can refine things to your heart's content using this method.
