Problems with string comparison using
I have a problem using the > and < comparison operators.
When the xsl:if test uses numeric values the comparison works OK. If the
test uses string values it always returns a false result.
The style sheet below shows an example (which should run against any
XML doc with a root element)
Note - the spurious
tags are just for debugging- I write the
output to an HTML page and IE happens to recognise them
even though the rest of the HTML tags are missing !!
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" >
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="*">
Starting numeric test :
<xsl:if test="(1 < 2)">
In Test, ID= <xsl:value-of select="generate-id()"/>
</xsl:if>
Finished numeric test :
Starting alpha test :
<xsl:if test="('a' < 'b')">
In Test, ID= <xsl:value-of select="generate-id()"/>
</xsl:if>
Finished alpha test :
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

Having looked at the XPath spec I believe what I am trying to do (compare strings with gt and lt type tests) is not supported. The spec indicates that they can only be used for node sets or numerics. Presumably the processor is attempting to convert the values to numbers but evaluating them both as NaN (not a number). Can someone confirm this.
I find this restriction quite strange, is this a situation where an extension function is required ? If so can someone point me to some (Java) examples.

Problems with string comparison and\or If statement
Right now I'm trying to make a program that will look into all of my music folders, and rename the .mp3 files to a format i want, based on the id3 tags. The program so far looks in all of the folders I want it to, but I get stuck when I need to check if the files are .mp3 files or not. Here is my code so far:
package fileRenamer;
import java.io.File;
public class FileRenamer {
public static void main(String[] argv) {
File artistsFolders = new File("F:/Music (MP3)");
File[] artists = artistsFolders.listFiles();
for(int i = 0; i < artists.length; i++){
if(artists.isFile()) {
System.out.println(artists[i].getName());
} else if (artists[i].isDirectory()) {
System.out.println(artists[i].getName());
File albumsFolders = new File("F:/Music (MP3)/"+artists[i].getName());
File[] albums = albumsFolders.listFiles();
for(int a = 0; a < albums.length; a++){
if(albums[a].isFile()) {
System.out.println("-" + albums[a].getName());
} else if (albums[a].isDirectory()) {
System.out.println("-" + albums[a].getName());
File songsFolders = new File("F:/Music (MP3)/"+artists[i].getName()+"/"+albums[a].getName());
File[] songs = songsFolders.listFiles();
for(int s = 0; s < songs.length; s++){
if(songs[s].isFile()) {
int dotPos = songs[s].getName().toString().lastIndexOf(".");
String extension = songs[s].getName().toString().substring(dotPos);
System.out.println(extension);
if(extension == ".mp3"){
System.out.println("--" + songs[s].getName());
} else if (songs[s].isDirectory()) {
System.out.println("--" + songs[s].getName());
When I test the code, the line System.out.println(extension); prints .mp3 into the console for all of the .mp3 files. Whatever I try, the if(extension == ".mp3") never seems to declare the two equal. If anyone knows what my problem is, I greatly appreciate the advice and help.
Thanks in Advance,

Little problem with Strings.
I have an little problem with Strings, i make one comparision like this.
String nombre="Javier";
if( nombre.equalsIgnoreCase(output.getStringValue("CN_NOMBRESf",null)) )
Wich output.getStringValue("CN_NOMBRESf",null) is "Javier" too, because I display
this before and are equals.
What I do wrong?.
You are actually making your users key in things like
"\026"? Not very user-friendly, I would say. But
assuming that is the best way for you to get your
input, or if it's just you doing the input, the way to
change that 4-character string into the single
character that Java represents by '\026', you would
use a bit of code like this:char encoded =
(char)Integer.parseInt(substring(inputString, 1),
16);
DrClap has the right idea, except '\026' is octal, not hex. So change the radix from 16 to 8. Unicode is usually represented like '\u002A'. So it looks like you want:String s = "\\077";
System.out.println((char)Integer.parseInt(s.substring(1), 8));Now all you have to do is parse through the String and replace them, which I think shouldn't be too hard for you now :) -

Boy, you are not kidding, I was running both the cloud and CS6, and I was ready to throw in the towel.
I have changed computer's twice now, have a solid state hd, (which I love) with 10 terabytes on externals, I run NOTHING except adobe's stuff on my HD now, and only one version of it, and it runs like a dream.
So, I updated the OS to win 8.1, updated my peripherals,
I dumped CS6 (hated to, but for some reason my 3D won't work on it, it works fine with the cloud) but in CS6 the software was turning it off after adobe's last update.
I've made a virtual machine for my development environments which do not play well with adobe's stuff.
My rule of thumb has always been double what the manufacturer states is required for RAM, but imho, with my current upgrades: upgraded to win8.1, and other peripherals, spent two weeks changing stuff over and it's about 100 times better than trying to run CC and CS6. - No kidding, the change is astronomical
But for anything PC I'm way over powered, and for Adobe, I'm still underpowered.
Next, I'll just get a mac for Adobe, and stick with my pc's for ms/CentOS. Too, it seems like since the cloud was initiated Adobe is rolling out the updates faster and changes without warning. The processor/3D issue, I had no warning on it, just woke up one day and "no more 3d" :S
But I do love the cloud, so, guess there's got to be some dark lining to it. <g> -
When attempting to use Lightroom external editor program to edit a photo in Photoshop Elements 10, the photo does not open / appear on photoshop elements screen. I don't have any problem with this when using Photoshop Elements 6 or Photoshop CS. I'm using a Mac with Mountain Lion OS. Any solutions?
Adobe now hides the editor - what looks like it is not - you want the editor hidden in the support folder - see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3955558#3955558 for details

Problem with SDO_relate when using polygons with holes.
I'm having a problem with sdo_relate. I'm trying to extract all elements from a point table (bdtq_batim_p) that are inside a specific polygon from another table (SDA_MUNIC_SS). The spatial index for both table have been rebuilt and the data from both table is valid.
When I do a count on the query, I know the answer should be 1422 elements (Counted in ArcGIS). However, sdo_relate gives a smaller number of elements in the result set.
The query :
SELECT count(distinct t.identifiant) FROM bdtq_batim_p t, SDA_MUNIC_SS s WHERE s.mus_co_geo = '48015' and sdo_relate( t.SHAPE,s.SHAPE,'mask=anyinteract querytype=window') = 'TRUE'
returns 282 elements. The query with mask=inside, SDO_Anyinteract() and SDO_inside() all give the same result.
I did a test with the following query and the result is 1422 (which is the good result).
SELECT count(distinct t.identifiant) FROM bdtq_batim_p t, SDA_MUNIC_SS s WHERE s.mus_co_geo = '48015' and SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE( t.SHAPE,s.SHAPE,'distance=0') = 'TRUE';
It's important to note that the polygone (from SDA_MUNIC_SS) that is used for this query have holes in it. I have the same problem with all the polygons from the SDA_MUNIC_SS table that have holes in it. For the polygon without holes, the results are the same for the 2 queries.
My question are :
Why are the result from the two queries different? A query with a buffer of 0 should always return the same result as a query with Anyinteract.
Is there a known problem with SDO_RELATE when using a polygon with holes in it?
Do you have any idea how to solve my problem.Since i don't have much control on the version of Oracle and Patches that we use in the system, we used a workaround that detects the polygons with holes and uses the SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE( t.SHAPE,s.SHAPE,'distance=0') = 'TRUE' operator in those case. We saw a slight decline in performance but it now returns the right results. When the system will be patched, we'll come back to the original version and see if the problem is solved.

I am new to Java Programming.
I have a line of code that works and does what is supposed to.
faceData.getProfile("Lisa").removeFriend("Curtis");
If I assign the strings to variables such as-
String name = "Lisa";
String fName = "Curtis";
and then plug those into the same line of code, it does not work
faceData.getProfile(name).removeFriend(fName);
What could be causing the problem?
I even added some lines to print out what is stored in the variables to verify that they are what they should be, but for some reason the variables do not work while putting the strings in quotes does. Any ideas?I guarantee that something about your assertions are incorrect. Those variables are either not equal to the values you claim, or something else is going on. But it's not a problem with string variables versus string constants.
Edit: My best guess in lack of a real example from you, is that the strings in question have non-printable characters in them, such as trailing spaces or line feeds. -

Problem with String to Int conversion
Dear Friends,
Problem with String to Int conversion
I am having a column where most of the values are numeric. Only 4 values are non numeric.
I have replaces those non numeric values to numeric in order to maintain the data type.
CASE Grade.Grade WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' ELSE Grade.Grade END
This comes the result as down

Now I want to convert this value to numeric and do some calculation
So I changed the formula as below
cast (CASE Grade.Grade WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' ELSE Grade.Grade END as INT)
Now I get the following error

I have done the code like following and it works fine
Thanks again for your support
Regards
Code: cast (CASE (CASE WHEN Length(Grade.Grade)=0 THEN '--' ELSE Grade.Grade END) WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' when '--' then '-1' ELSE Grade.Grade END as Int) -
Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP
Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP? Having a problem syncing to our mail server: doesn't sync properly when multiple devices use same mail acct. Spoken w/ mail hosting provider who says Apple Mail doesn't follow IMAP protocol properly leaving Apple Mail users to experience a variety of problems when connecting to IMAP accounts. Among them:
- Improper syncing
- Proliferation of drafts during composition of an email.
- Connections on the mail host do not close automatically and proliferate over time until the host rejects further connection requests.
Hosting provider goes on to suggest turning off IDLE command. In my experience turning this feature off did not improve the situation. In fact, it created a few.
Question: Is the hosting provider correct in faulting Apple Mail?
Been fielding the question with a number of people. I'm aware of three people who are experiencing similar problems, each using different mail hosts. Tech reps at inmotionhosting.com and nexcess.com point the finger at a Apple Mail, along with an IT specialist in Los Angeles, CA, and a tech support rep at an Apple Store in Arizona who said that Apple and Google mail are aware of and coordinating to resolve the problem.

CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time. Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working. I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's. Is there a way around this? Is there a patch to correct it?
To build CD's???
What problem does Encore have with DL?
If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore. -
Problem in String cpmparison using #{} and ${}
Hi,
I am facing a strange problem. I want to compare values of the following 2 variables:
{color:#0000ff}Variable 1 :{color} It is a variable for a dataTable.
I take data from the dataBase in postDataModel. Variable named "post" is used to iterate over the various selected values of the result set.
E.g. <h:dataTable value="#{ForumBean.postDataModel}" {color:#ff0000}var="post"{color} ......
So, #{post.username} the value of 1 column. It is of type "String".
{color:#0000ff}Variable 2 :{color} It is a variable from Backing Bean. say,{color:#ff0000} UserBean.name{color}
Now,
<c:if test="${UserBean.username == post.username}">
then do something... </c:if>
But the problem here is the above String comparison never returns true i.e. the Strings never match EVEN THOUGH both have the same value.
That's because: {color:#ff0000}${post.username}{color} gives null String, while {color:#ff0000}#{post.username}{color} gives the actual username.
E.g.
${UserBean.name} gives David
#{post.username} gives David
{color:#800000}How do I compare the 2 variables in JSTL? (JSTL only takes expressions with a '$' and not a '#') ?{color}
Depending on these values I have to render or not render a column in dataTable.
{color:#ff0000}{color}Yes I treid both ways. I even used the rendered attribute. When it failed, I switched to JSTL.
Okay, for the same above question as posted above, according to you if I used the following:
{color:#ff0000}rendered = " #{UserBean.name == post.username} "{color} should be evaluated to {color:#ff0000}true{color} and the column should be visible.
But that is not happening.
Is the above syntax for rendered and in-between String comprison correct?
If not, it would be great if you could give me a work around as that is exactly what I want to do.
Thanks. -
Problem with constructors and using public classes
Hi, I'm totally new to Java and I'm having a lot of problems with my program :(
I have to create constructor which creates bool's array of adequate size to create a sieve of Eratosthenes (for 2 ->n).
Then it has to create public method boolean prime(m) which returs true if the given number is prime and false if it's not prime.
And then I have to create class with main function which chooses from the given arguments the maximum and creates for it the sieve
(using the class which was created before) and returns if the arguments are prime or not.
This is what I've written but of course it's messy and it doesn't work. Can anyone help with that?
//part with a constructor
public class ESieve {
ESieve(int n) {
boolean[] isPrime = new boolean[n+1];
for (int i=2; i<=n; i++)
isPrime=true;
for(int i=2;i*i<n;i++){
if(isPrime[i]){
for(int j=i;i*j<=n;j++){
isPrime[i*j]=false;}}}
public static boolean Prime(int m)
for(int i=0; i<=m; i++)
if (isPrime[i]<2) return false;
try
m=Integer.parseInt(args[i]);
catch (NumberFormatException ex)
System.out.println(args[i] + " is not an integer");
continue;
if (isPrime[i]=true)
System.out.println (isPrime[i] + " is prime");
else
System.out.println (isPrime[i] + " is not prime");
//main
public class ESieveTest{
public static void main (String args[])
public static int max(int[] args) {
int maximum = args[0];
for (int i=1; i<args.length; i++) {
if (args[i] > maximum) {
maximum = args[i];
return maximum;
new ESieve(maximum);
for(int i=0; i<args.length; i++)
Prime(i);}I've made changes and now my code looks like this:
public class ESieve {
ESieve(int n) {
sieve(n);
public static boolean sieve(int n)
boolean[] s = new boolean[n+1];
for (int i=2; i<=n; i++)
s=true;
for(int i=2;i*i<n;i++){
if(s[i]){
for(int j=i;i*j<=n;j++){
s[i*j]=false;}}}
return s[n];}
public static boolean prime(int m)
if (m<2) return false;
boolean x = sieve(m);
if (x=true)
System.out.println (m + " is prime");
else
System.out.println (m + " is not prime");
return x;}
//main
public class ESieveTest{
public static int max(int[] args) {
int maximum = args[0];
for (int i=1; i<args.length; i++) {
if (args[i] > maximum) {
maximum = args[i];
return maximum;
public static void main (String[] args)
int n; int i, j;
for(i=0;i<=args.length;i++)
n=Integer.parseInt(args[i]);
int maximum=max(args[]);
ESieve S = new ESieve(maximum);
for(i=0; i<args.length; i++)
S.prime(i);}
It shows an error for main:
{quote} ESieveTest.java:21: '.class' expected
int maximum=max(args[]); {quote}
Any suggestions how to fix it? -
Problem with String in a Vector
I'm making a small hangman game. And I got a problem with putting words in a Vector... This is the code... Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
// First I define it.
Vector Words;
// Then add the words
Vector Words = new Vector();
Words.add(new String("HELLO"));
Words.add(new String("GOOD BYE"));
// When I try to get a string from the Vector I use this.
// The program compiles but when I try to run it I get NullPointerExeption here
W = (String) Words.elementAt(0);Not sure since I cant see all of your code but looks like this might be your problem:
// First I define it.
Vector Words; //<-- here you define a Vector named Words that is null
// Then add the words
Vector Words = new Vector(); //<-- here you define another vector named Words that holds a reference to a new Vector. This is a different reference than the one created above so you should probably remove the "Vector" part from the beginning of this line. Is this a local variable to a method and the one before is a global variable?
//Here you probably access the locally created Words vector which is initialized
Words.add(new String("HELLO"));
// When I try to get a string from the Vector I use this.
// The program compiles but when I try to run it I get NullPointerExeption here
W = (String) Words.elementAt(0); //<--and here my guess is that this statement is inside another method than the one with the local Words vector defined. Thus this one accesses the global Words Vector that is never initalized and is Null. And that gives you the NullPointerException.
So try changing the statement
Vector Words = new Vector();
to
Words = new Vector();
or just remove it totally and move the Vector creation to the place where you introduce the global variable.
Of course I might be totally wrong since I cant see all of your code but that is my guess.
Hope it helps,
-teka
