Problems with Stuffit Expander!!!

Just got an iBook G4. After transferring some of my files from my PC a few of the videos were in Windows Media Player format. I downloaded the Media Player but it was compressed to a .sitx extension. I downloaded stuffit and installation was normal, however, when I try and open or use Stuffit Expander it opens, then closes immediately with the normal 'this application closed unexpectedly..." message. I've tried trashing, re-downloading and re-installing but nothing changes. I'm using Tiger v.10.4 with a 14.1" iBook G4. Can anyone help?

First thing I would do, is to trash all preferences files related to Stuffit, (in your library), then boot from the OSX CD installer (hold down the C key during the boot to boot from the inserted CD ), of course don't install anything, but from the menu > launch Disk Utilities, and then make a repair disk and also a Permission Repair on you booting HD.
-Reboot, and check if if you have all OSX components updated, (for instance OSX..4.2 instead of OSX..4.1)
-Reboot, and make again a Permission Repair on your HD
-Check on the Allume web site, if you have the latest Stuffit Expander version.
-in case of new install, again make a Permission Repair

BEWARE OF SMITH-MICRO AND STUFFIT 12.
stuffit 12 has a known problem with filevault. they give you no clue to this until you buy it and try to download it. I had to create an entire new login just to install it and register it. it took days to try to get this resolved with no help from smith-micro. plus while trying to get help on the sm site an attempt was made to get my credit card pin from my computer. my internet cleanup 5 caught it. (also a smith micro product) so they cannot say it was someone else's software mistake. they still have not responded to the theft attempt. It has been since the 24th i first contacted them. they blamed everything on apple. even though all their other versions of stuffit work fine with filevault. I tried to get a refund but to no avail so i had to figure it out or take the loss of money. had to call an expert to help me and I have used mac since 1989.
they have really reached s new low at smith micro.
anyway here is a message response i got from them about my install.
FYI, I downloaded version 12. they even got that wrong.
"The 5370 'Cannot create a secure session' error, almost invariably means that the user has FileVault enabled on their login account, on their Mac. FileVault interferes with the (Apple-provided) server authentication process that the Stuffit Setup Assistant uses during registration. This has been brought to Apple's attention, and our engineers are working, with Apple, towards a fix for this problem. (Other developers have also had problems with FileVault.) For now, we have the following workaround:
1. Copy the StuffIt 11 folder to your Applications folder.
2. In System Preferences->Accounts, create a new (non-FileVault) user with Administrator privileges.
3. Log out and then log into the new account. (Do not switch between accounts with Fast User Switching.)
4. Run StuffIt Setup Assistant located in the Stuffit 11 folder.
5. When the installation completes, log out/in and check that the StuffIt applications are working properly.
6. Log out, then back into the FileVault enabled account.
7.(Optional) delete non-FileVault account.
akso beware of PAYPAL when you download software. they do not back you up if the software does not install or work correctly. they claim they are responsible only for the delivery of the product. I suggested to them until i have registered and can use the software, technically it has not been delivered. they don't agree.

Are you sure that comment came from PayPal? They are only a means to pay someone for a product, or for you to receive payment from someone else. PayPal itself doesn't sell or deliver anything.

Equium and other laptops in general and Usb 2 speed problems with stuff

I use a TOP2049 programmer
I cant use it to program some types of chips using the laptop.
Main machine can reduce speed of usb to 12mbps but laptop cant reduce this in the bios
Is there a way to do this?

I have checked my both Toshiba notebooks for this option but it seems that its not possible to change the USB speed.
I think this isnt an important option because normally its not necessary to change the USB speed. So its not available on notebooks.
I think you must program on your PC. Normally on PCs you have more options in BIOS.

Having Trouble With Stuffit 10.0

I have downloaded the installer for Windows Media Player for Mac OS X, and it is in .sitx format. I had trouble opening it with Stuffit Expander, so when I went to the web to try and find the problem, I found that I needed to download Stuffit 10. When I went to the page for this download, it told me the account was inactive.
Anybody have any pointers for me?

Problem with arabic fonts

hi , i just downloaded photoshop and i made it middle east for the arabic & i installed a library of arabic fonts , the problem is ps writting any arabic text with those fonts wrong and it`s very heavy while writing but he is writing normal the arabic text with mac fonts , can this issue fixed or can i rest my fonts ?
hint --> as i`m new in mac i put the arabic fonts in many folders :
(library -- fonts)
(fontbook -- all fonts)
(fontbook --- user)

You normally have to use Mac fonts when writing Arabic.

I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro.

I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro (8 Core 2.93GHz). When I run the Mac Pro with 2 x 2Gb RAM it takes 4 seconds before the gray screen, chime and spinning wheel appear.However when I expand the RAM to 20GB the grey screen and chimes appear after a long 20+ second black screen.
The RAM modules are paored 2 x 4GB Crucial CT51272BA1339.M18FMR and 6 x 2GB SAMSUNG M391B5673FH0-CH9, all DDR3 ECC.
Reading articles on the internet, I thought it may be damaged RAM modules, but I have completed memtest and all are okay. I have tried changing the pairs around and if I use any paired 2 modules the Mac Pro starts normally, only when I try running more than 2 modules the delayed start up happens. (black screen 20 Seconds)
I also have tried PRAM and SMU resets after changing the RAM setups, and the issues always occurs when I have more than 2 modules. As you can see I have 6 SAMSUNG modules and even with identical modules the issue happens, when increasing the RAM to more than 2 modules.
The Mac Pro runs fine after the start up screen and can see all the modules, but has anyone else come across this issue, or have any ideas as to why my Mac Pro is taking 20 seconds to start up with 20 GB RAM?

I have tried all the different combinations of RAM setup, and as stated in my initial topic, the Mac Pro boot up time only slows when I have more that 2 modules. Where I place these does not seem to make a difference.
I have taken the Mac Pro to an Apple Reseller technician yesterday and they where not able to find any RAM errors. Apparently the boot up time is within Apple's acceptable parameters for this set up.
Could anyone that is running a Mac Pro 2009 with more that 4 modules of RAM, please let me know if the boot up time is normal. ( the time it takes from pressing the power button to seeing the gray screen around 16 - 20 seconds)
Or is anyone else having the same issues?

Problem with flow of expandable fields

Hi everyone,
I have important problem with flow of expandable fields in table in dynamic PDF form. The issue I am talking about you can see at the top of column 3 on page 2 in PDF in link below.
Here is uploaded PDF form and sample XML data (form has import button and is ReaderExtended that you can easily test it and see my problem):

Generally I have created table with 3 columns using Table object (each field has allow multiple lines selected and expand to fit). It is closed in FormBody subform which is flowed subform.
Row in table is repeatable and has “is allow to break page” setting set on.
Sometimes when there is a lot of text and row page break there is problem with flow.
For example text from one rows overlaps on text from next row.
I tried to solve this problem by changing row height, indents, font size, line spacing but always when I thought that I have fixed it I got another data which generated the same flow problem.
Did anyone met this problem earlier and found solution to this issue? This is really important for me and I am really in dead end so any hints would be really helpful.
I am using Adobe Livecycle Designer 8.1 and PDF form target is 8.
I really appreciate any help in this problem.

Problem with expanding textfield in Adobe LiveCycle Designer

I've got an urgent problem with Adobe LiveCycle Designer and I really could use some help. The problem is that I'm trying to get my textfield expandable, but whatever I try, it's not working. What I'm trying to get done is that you can fill in a textfield, and when there is more text than the size of the field, the textfield expands to make the text fit in the field.
I tried a whole lot of things:
placing the textfield in a subform
expand to fit (height)
allow multiple lines
allow page breaks
flowed/positioned
etc.
The strange thing is, that no matter what I try to adjust, I can't change anything in the pagination tab. Maybe that is the problem, but I don't know what to do, to change that.
In the examples of Adobe itself (Purchase Form) is an example of a textfield that sort of behaves as I want it to, BUT the problem is that that textfield in the subform has to be triggered to appear by a button (add comments) and that is what I don't want. I want the textfield to be visible from the beginning. But in that example you CAN see the pagination tab and make changes in it.
I searched a lot in the Adobe Helpfiles of Designer, and I even bought and read/studied the book 'Creating Dynamic Forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer', but still I'm not able to get this done.
Is there anyone who can help me?

I am creating my first .pdf with no training. I first converted a word doc of our form into a .pdf. Modified everything and thought I was the "bomb" for figuring it out. Then I tried to use the form and where I had "allowed multiple lines" I realized that it would allow that but not display it or print it except for what was showing.
In researching for a solution, this site said to use "expand to fit". After much frustration I realized that this feature is only available if you created the form from scratch in adobe.
I have figured out, somewhat, how to create the form and get the field to move with the text but I need the entire form to adjust to the input. Can't have one specific field expand into the rest of the form.
I did some more research on this site, and it looks like the solution has something to do with 'subforms'. No idea what to do.
If anyone knows if there is a way to do this with a converted doc (since I already have that completed) I would GREATLY appreciate it. If it isn't possible, could someone walk me through how to do it or provide a reference for a "barney style" walk through?

Not e.g. the phc_vids are written correctly, which means that they are exactly what I set in rc.local when I check them. Same goes for hda_intel powersave, but e.g. the line
echo 5 > /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode
(is 0 when I check it after booting) or the link_power_management_policy stuff (is set to max_performance when I check it) seem to have no influence. Though, when I set these manually, they work like a charm.
Does anyone have an idea why this happens? Thanks in advance

just a wild guess - but maybe it could help, to issue the commands, which doesn't work, with "sleep". I played around with it myself some time ago and it helps to start some processes when the computer / hard drive isn't stressed as much after booting the system. It's worth a try.
Example:
sleep 60 && echo 5 > /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode &

I would recommend that you download and install the excellent and Free "VLCPlayer for Mac", which reads many more types of files for video than Quicktime Player:

Problems with google stuff on Firefox

Recently, My Firefox has problems with googling stuff. For example, when I try to access simple Google.com on the address bar, it gives unusual error:
Secure Connection Failed
www.google.ca uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate does not come from a trusted source. (Error code: sec_error_inadequate_key_usage)

Firefox gives me the same error message when I try to find information by entering the simple entries such "News", "Microsoft" and etc on the address bar. Apparently, I can't use Firefox to google.
Do anyone know what's wrong with my Firefox browser and how can I resolve the issue ?

A few other thoughts:
(1) If you access Google in IE and click the padlock icon in the address bar to view the certificate, what do you find in the "Issued by" section as the issue? I have attached the info from Firefox for comparison; I don't have a modern version of IE on this PC.
(2) Do recall changing any encryption-related settings, either through the Options dialog or using the about:config preferences editor?
You could check for non-default settings as follows:
(A) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''ssl''' and pause while the list is filtered
If any of the preferences whose names start with network. or security. have been customized, they likely will be bolded and show "user set". Could you post those by right-click copying the preferences and then right-click pasting into a reply?

What's the problem with this CC stuff?

Since CC is available I only have trouble with all this stuff. I'm on OSX ML and there seems to be no change to install anything of the new stuff. CC app desktop- failed to install. When I use AAM, the CC apps are available, but after downloading I get an installation failure (15). I've tried anything discussed in this community, but nothing worked. So why there are so many problems with CC? Since I pay over 60 Euros each month, I would like to use the promised applications. ADOBE, please supply a reliable solution for all operating systems without the need of erase data, rename folders or anything else. Thanks in advance.

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

10.3.9 to 10.4.8 Probelm with iPhoto4, Stuffit Expander, Epson RX500

1)Since putting 10.4 and updating to 10.4.8 I have (so far) the problems of iPhoto/e-mail, when composing several photo's and choosing "medium size " some come through into Mail as small, some as medium and some come through as large. They use to be all medium if the was choosen. Any Help ?
2) I have problems using the software program with my Epson RX500 - Photoimpression, it freezes when trying to save a edited photograph. Epson told me to download thier 5.1 version and StuffitExpander version 11, this stuffit made my computer go totally whackie, it made all the icons and windows that were open on the desk top blink on off, I could not use Force Quit, because it blinked on and off and had to press the on/off button and the rear of the computer, Any Help with this ?
