Process Flow Deployment using Oracle workflow

Hi,
If I have my own Process Flow in XPDL, can I deploy it to the Oracle workflow? I couldn't find any doc regarding how Oracle workflow (standalone) imports XPDL file.
Is the Oracle workflow packaged with the OWB comes with some adapter that understand the XPDL process flow?
I have an application that may output process flows in XPDL, and I want to deploy them to Oracle workflow for processing. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Denny

Hi,
I´ve used it in 2 system as a DM. It works fine. But I have to say that they were a small project.
OWF is a very robust and easy tool. I´ve never need to look for another workflow because OWF always cover my project. When it doesn´t, I´m able to change some pl/sql procedures to make it attend project requirements.
I can advice you that if you want a personalized user interface, you are going to spend more time doing it than developing your workflow. but if you don´t need to personalize user interface, so it is very easy do develop and deploy a workflow.
Any doubt just ask.

  • Modify process flows using Oracle Workflow

    Hi,
I'd like to use Oracle Workflow to enhance the process flows created using Warehouse Builder, as some features are missing if compared with the full-blown Workflow Builder, and it is desired to integrate OWB processes in larger ones. I have successfully applied changes on the Workflow processes generated from OWB but it's not clear how far I can go, especially because I don't want to lose too much of the benefits of the original Workflows:all mapping results should continue to show in the Runtime Audit Browser, and it shouldn't be impossible to deploy the processes in a new environment.
I am worried that when I change the processes manually in Workflow, I lose the possibility to re-deploy automatically from OWB, but this is tolerable as long as the final Workflow processes are maintainable and deployable.
Has anyone tried a similar approach? How much can it be feasible/supported??
    regards, Antonio

Jean-Pierre, thank you very much for your reply.
I'm still evaluating what will be done through OWB and what through OWF. However my first attempts were oriented along the lines you suggest, that is to keep the process flows generated by OWB untouched, and use them as building blocks for larger processes. At the moment I am trying to realize what balance gives the best result. One extreme would be to use OMB scripting to wrap mappings in very simple generated processes, deploy them and build all the workflow logic in OWF. The other extreme would be to implement complete workflows through OWB and modify them through Workflow, but I'm sure this would certainly not be supported (as the Workflow developer manual states).
My intent is to use OWF to add some flow logic I find difficult to introduce using OWB, especially for recovery actions, eg I added a join operator to the standard AND and OR, which purpose is to wait that all joining processes complete and than to branch depending on a failure in any process. I don't want the following recovery/logging actions to start unless processing has stopped.
I built such logic very easily throw OWF but it's very involved using OWB, unless I'm missing something...

  • OWB-OWF - Process Flow Deployment - Database Link

    Hello there,
This post is basically related to my problem with Process Flow deployment.
Could someone please shed some light on the following:
When we create a Process Flow, during this process OWF creates a Database Link. For some reason, this link is not functional unless I remove the part after "." in that defines the "HOST" in the DB Link definition. How do I know it is not functional - I know because following query does not work:
    select * from [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    Here is the link definition:
    ORIGINAL:
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4.CENTENNIALCOLLEGE.CA)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
MODIFIED (it works - above query runs OK):
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
My second question is "using what userid/pwd should this link should have been created? Should it use "Runtime Repository Owner" or "OWB Repository Owner" or "Runtime Access User" or "OWF_MGR"?
No matter what userid I use, it works when I run the query but I always get following error when I try to deploy the "Process Flows" in OWB:
RPE-02085: Failed to test wb_rti_workflow_util.initialize through deployed Workflow Database Link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG2. Please check that "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" privilege is set and that the OWB Runtime is available.
    - ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG2
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have already granted the "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" to OWF_MGR. I am not sure, though, what is meant by the "and that the OWB Runtime is available" part of the error message above.
I have also tried to fix this by running the "catrpc.sql" script but it did not help either.
I am stuck on this step for past few days. I would highly appreciate help in fixing this problem. Here is the configuration I am using:
o Source database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
o Target database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
    o OWB 9i
    o OWF 2.6.2
o OWB and OWF repositories are on the TARGET database
I am able to successfully deploy and run my MAPPINGs.
    TIA,
    Amer

    Hello Oracle support,
Should I open a TAR to get this problem resolved?

  • Error during "Process Flow" deployment

    Hello everyone,
I am having trouble deploying my first "Process Flow" object. I am using OWB 9.2 and WF 2.6.2 on Windows XP.
Here is the error I am getting:
RPE-02085: Failed to test wb_rti_workflow_util.initialize through deployed Workflow Database Link DSRD_QA.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_LOADS. Please check that "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" privilege is set and that the OWB Runtime is available.
    - ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object OWBRR.WB_RTI_WORKFLOW_UTIL@DSRD_QA.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_LOADS
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Here is what I have done so far based on what read in different posts on this forum (nothing seems to fix my problem):
o connect to SYS in the TARGET database (where OWF
schema was installed) and ran the following:
GRANT execute any procedure to owf_mgr
o I used "localhost" when I registered the WF object.
Then, as per one post, I changed it to "DNS name".
    Did not help at all.
o Then, I tried to test the DB link (mentioned in the
error Msg above) and it DID NOT work. Then, as per
another post, I removed the part of host name that
    appeared after the ".", i.e, DB.someplace.com to
DB. Then I ran a query using this DBLink and it worked
OK. Then I tried to deploy the WF object, it failed
    with same error as above.
I am hoping someone will help me out on this issue - I have seen several posts with similar error messages and have tried almost all the solutions presented in there - nothing worked for me so far. Here is DB link definition:
    ORIGINAL:
    create public database link DSRD_QA.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_LOADS
connect to OWBRR identified by tiger using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-4F4322.CENTENNIALCOLLEGE.CA)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=DSRD_QA)))'
    Changed:
    create public database link DSRD_QA.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_LOADS
connect to OWBRR identified by tiger using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-4F4322)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=DSRD_QA)))'
NOTE: HOST was chanegd to just DNS name (part after the "." was removed). Changed DBLink works fine - original one does not.
Thank you all in advance for your time and reponse!

    Amer

    Hello Jean-Pierre,
I have tried almost what I could but I am still getting following errors when I try to deploy "process flow":
RPE-02085: Failed to test wb_rti_workflow_util.initialize through deployed Workflow Database Link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG2. Please check that "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" privilege is set and that the OWB Runtime is available.
    - ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG2
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Most recent thing I tried was to run "catrpc.sql" script on the TARGET database using SYS.
I know you must be a very busy person but I would appreciate if you could try this in your env. Both my SOURCE and TARGET databases are local and I have installed all OWB and OWF repositories in the TARGET database. I have successfully deployed and executed OWB Mappings. Now I am stuck with OWF Process Flow deployment. This would perhaps be the last thing I need to do in order to be able to schedule ETL jobs through OWF.
All your help and time is highly appreciated.

  • Custom Workflow using Oracle Workflow in ContentDB

    Hi,
Could we use custom workflow which is made using Oracle Workflow instead of BPEL.
    Regards,
    Yulisar

Having registered custom workflows for Content DB via Enterprise Manager, potentially you can use any tool capable of dequeuing/enqueing messages from the IFS_BPEL_OUT/IFS_BPEL_IN advanced queues as part of a custom workflow process.
By default, we assume you are using Oracle BPEL PM with its Advanced Queue adapater to process the queue messages. However, there is nothing stopping using Oracle Workflow or any tool for that matter.
HOWEVER!!! Warning!!! There is a high probability that Content DB will drop the bundled Oracle Worflow installation in the near future. What this means, is that you should consider installing/configure/patching your own separate Oracle Workflow installation and not rely on the bundled Content DB solution which is used internally for Serial and Parallel Approval workflows.
    thanks,
    Matt.

  • Deleting a user in AD using Oracle Workflow

    Hello.
I have a very unusual scenario that I want to solve.
We are developing an application using Oracle Workflow in which we are simulating the process of deleting a user from several systems. In one of the steps of the process we have to invalidate the user in MS Active Directory.
Using OID it's possible to do that? Any clues on how to do it?
    Thanks In Advice.

    adi,
Yes, the Change User Password workflow is called even if the user logged in using "forgot my password" questions.
By default, IDM commits the user passwords before the "Change User Password" WF is called (unless you set the deferCommit option), so the problem may be that your function isn't getting called or receiving valid input. Can you verify that your code is actually called?
The workflow goes like this: (1) Start; If there's an uncommitted password view (there isn't by default) -> (2) CommitView -> (3) Now reprovision the user.
If you're depending on the transition to CommitView, that may be why your code isn't being called.

  • Creating variables in Process Flows and using thse variables in the filter

    Hi,
I am new to OWB and in learing stage. Need to information.
*1. as to how pass/create/use variables to OWB mapping ?*
*2. Creating variables in Process Flows and using thse variables in the filter operator of the OWB mapping?*
*3. Other mechanisms of how to create/use variables within OWB mapping itself ?*
can you please provide the above details and guide me / help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    skms.

    1. Add parameters to your mapping using the MAPPING INPUT PARAMETER from the pallette.
    2. Add parameters to the START operator in the process flow. Bind the process flow parameter to the Mapping parameter.
    3. May be appropriate to use CONSTANTS instead of parameters.

Oracle Workflow is only available as a component of EBS. It has never been available on, and is not certified for Oracle 11g, nor any version of XE.

Hi, I had this problem sometimes ago. And solved it increasing the -Xmx value at the file owb.cl at OWB_HOME\owb\bin\win32 from -Xmx128M to -Xmx768M.
I think it will work for you too.

  • FTP process flow not using registered userid

    Hi,
I posted the following last week, to the back of a thread that Igor was answering to, but haven't seen any replies yet. Can some body answer the question regarding the userid used on the target location when an FTP process flow is ran please?
    Thanks again.
    ==================
    Igor,
I followed the examples given in this thread, and checked the case study in the PDF, but am still not able to 'get' a file using FTP to the desired location.
I have an FTP work flow configured with the Path Settings pointing to: REMOTE LOCATION is a w2k server, WORKING LOCATION is on Unix. These locations are registered in the Deployment Mgr properly.
I am able to PUT a file to win2k from Unix, but not GET.
This is caused by the fact that, during FTP WF execution, it is ran as Unix user 'oracle', whom do not have write access to the Root Path registered for the WORKING LOCATION. (I can do a get to /tmp).
Also, I am getting these messages in the execution log, even if the FTP was successful:
WARNING: Log file truncated - see RAB for further information.
ftp: ioctl I_PUSH ttcompat: No such device or address
ftp: ioctl(TIOCGETP): No such device or address
All of these problems indicate that the run time Unix user, 'oracle', doesn't have sufficient rights to various directories. Is it possible to force OWB use the userid that was registered for the WORKING LOCATION?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please follow the below steps.
    1. Kill the OWF process using the Oracle Workflow Monitor.
    - On the OWF Monitor home page, use "Find Process" to find the process
    - In the "Process List" page, click on the Process Name
    - Click on the "View Diagram" button
    - Click on the "Abort Process" button
In the process list, the process should have a white-black flag.
    2. Connect as the Workflow schema owner and execute the following commands in order to purge the item type.
    - WF_PURGE.TOTAL package : deletes obsolete runtime data which includes: Items, Item activity statuses, Notifications, Expired activity versions.
    SQL> execute wf_purge.total
    - WFRMITT.sql script : deletes all definitions for an Item.
    SQL> @< database_oracle_home> wf\admin\sql\WFRMITT.sql
    3. Deploy the Workflow Process again from the OWB Deployment Manager.
    Thanks,
    Leo.

  • Process flow Deployment for OEM

I try to define a process module with an OEM deployment location.
It is not possible to create a new one during the creation wizard.
I'm not able to allocate later on an existing OEM location.
    How cum?
    OWB 9.2.
    Oracle 9i

    Hi Igor,
    Thnx for your response.
I did look already to viewlet but this is the way to schedule jobs to run mappings which are PL/SQL packages.
What i try to do is defining in the OWB tool a process flow and a deployment location for this process flow and there i can't choose to define a location of the OEM type.
I would expect that OWB generates specific code or package for this process flow that i can scheduled using OEM and the oem template.
I will check the things you mentioned maybe they are related but i would be surprised. I would not expect that OWB tool is so depended of the deployment environment.
