Process Not Responding since upgrade to 10.5

Hi
Since upgrading to 10.5 I keep getting an unresponsive process listed in Activity Monitor.
When I force quit it, it comes back after a minute or so.
I'd like to know what it is, and how to get rid of it.
Process info is:
UserEventAgent (Process ID 101)
Parent Process is launchd (80)
open files and ports associated are:

Any ideas?
Cheers

Update.
After pasting the 'open files' list into the post, I re-examined it and spotted a Digidesign entry that I'd missed in my general weeding out of all Digidesign stuff. I deleted the plugins in the HAL plugin folder, and rebooted. All now seems well.
thanks for looking

  • ITunes and System Preferences not responding since upgrade

Since Ive upgraded to 10.7 my MacBook Pro has slowed down (SpotLight is reporting indexing finished).  iTunes and a host of programs report not responding and after 1-2 mins fire into life then report not responding.
I've noticed that the UserEventAgent and loginwindow processes are taking up lots of RAM and I keep getting the error:
kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
Also, at one stage the machine rebooted on its own and reset all values back to default.....
Any one else seeing these issues?

Got around the problem.....  Had to re-install Lion via the recovery console (3 hours!!!!!).  Is Lion about to become another VISTA!

  • Is anyone having trouble with the "home" button not responding after upgrading to 5.1.1 OS?

Is anyone having problems with the "home" button not responding after upgrading to 5.1.1?

You will not belive how I accidently solved this - !!!
Yes I had the problem immediately after the 5.1.1 'cloud' upgrade, the problems started (on my iphone 4) ... I followed the 'get power down button, then hold HOME for 30 secs' solution, but no result, nothing seemed to work and I was starting to get a bit agressive with the keep it pushed, multiple double click frustrations, icopybot multigesture solutions etc. and paid money ... but this comedy solution now works ...
I discovered it because I ordered a waterproof case for my iphone for my motorcycle ... I've just fitted it to my iphone and all the problems have gone ??? what! ... so wondering why I looked at what the home button on the casing was doing - it was pressing ACROSS the home button i.e. it converted my finger point into a wider 'PRESS
so taking the new case off, instead of using the point of my thumb to press HOME, I used the flat of my thumb to emulate it ....and initially nothing, so I wondered if it wa making better 'cross button' contacts, so I licked my thumb, wiped it and then tried again! - it worked!
I can't explain it but it seems to work - try it! if the double click on HOME doesn't work lick your thumb dry it and try again! I've just done it again
what a mad techno world we live in! :-)

Have you informed Apple of your problem?
Yosemite sometimes has problems, often related to "default" permissions needing to be changed

  • IPhoto will not open since upgrading to OSX 10.8

Hi, has anyone come across this since upgrading to Mountain Lion. iPhoto will not open and I get the below error message. I was previously on OSX 10.6 with all updates applied to the OS. I upgrade the iPhoto app under iLife 11 on OSX 10.6 and it worked fine. Since I upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS, iPhoto will not open. I tried to rebuild the library using the command and option (alt) key but it will not give me the option to rebuild. Should I attempt to delete the application and reinstall?  Any assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

I tried that Terence but keep getting the same message. Firstly, after reinstalling iPhoto, it requires me to upgrade via the App store, and then I get the below message. The odd thing is that my iphoto version is 9.2 whilst the upgrade from the App store refers to version 9.1. The version line item per the below message appears to have changed from the initial message in my first posting here.

  • Component Status not updating since upgrade from SCCM2012 SP1 CU3 to SCCM2012 R2

Since upgrading to SCCM2012 R2 three days ago, in the Configuration Manager console when we go to Monitoring > System Status > Component Status and view the status messages for any component, there are no entries since the time of our upgrade.  All
    components are this way.
I've checked the logs and information is flowing through them and everything else seems to be running smoothly, but there are no updates to items in Component Status.  There was only one warning in the R2 prereq checker, the ConfigMgrPrereq.log shows:
<11-08-2013 15:33:30> ERROR: Site server does not have create child permission on AD 'System Management'
<11-08-2013 15:33:30> WARN: Site server does not have delete child permission on AD 'System Management'
<11-08-2013 15:33:30> [primary site server];    Verify site server permissions to publish to Active Directory.;    Warning;    The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for
the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required
    permissions, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=233190.
I have confirmed via ADUC and ADSIEdit that the primary site server computer account does have full control over the System Management container.
We are running a single site server with separately hosted site database server and several remote distribution point site systems.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Problem solved!
I was looking in the statmgr.log file and spotted an error about a bad SQL transaction.  Some searching on this lead me to this Microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/884123.  Even though it is for SMS2003 it lead me to check the
\inboxes\statmgr.box\retry\ folder and sure enough there were ~5100 .sql files waiting.  As per the instructions in the document, I stopped the SMS_EXECUTIVE service, deleted the oldest .sql file and then restarted the service.  The file count in
the \Retry\ folder is dropping and status messages are flowing.  I now just have to wait for the 6 days of status messages to process.
Thanks everyone for your assistance :)

  • Finder not responding, after upgrade to 10.6.4

Ever since i upgraded os x to 10.6.4, the finder has been not responding whatsoever.
My hard drive still has more than 100GB (out of total 250GB). and i have used Terminal to delete files in trash and nothing left in my desktop.
When i connect my Time Machine external backup drive, i cannot open Time Machine neither.
The even more serious problem is that I couldn't even save my files to another location or open files (e.g. using Pages - Files - Open...) from other locations.
I tried to verify and repair the disk using Disk Utility; it doesn't work neither. it says it cannot repair the disk.
I also tried to boot by Mac OS Installation Disk and then use the Disk Utility; nothing helps.
I hope my description has been enough for you to analyse what could have happened and give possible solutions.
    Many thanks!

I tried to verify and repair the disk using Disk Utility; it doesn't work neither. it says it cannot repair the disk.
Well there's your problem! If you have unfixable disk damage on your boot drive, it's going to cause file corruption which can in turn cause many widely varying problems.
First thing you need to do is make sure you've got a good backup. If you don't have any backups, it could be too late... with disk damage, any of your files could be corrupt at this point. But do what you can. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> for help with that.
Second, you can try to repair the drive using a different tool, such as [DiskWarrior|http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html] or [TechTool Pro|http://www.micromat.com>. However, IMHO this is unlikely to help if you're already experiencing symptoms of file corruption, which you are. But it's something to try. (I don't actually own either of those utilities, because I always make the assumption that if my hard drive is badly damaged, so might my system files be, so on the rare occasion this happens I just go straight to the step below.)
If nothing else works, you'll need to erase your hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch, then restore your data from backups. You'll want to restore as little as possible from the backup when it comes to settings files, as those could be damaged and could bring instability back into your squeaky clean new system.

  • 1) Compressor artifacts and 2) Processes not responding

The whole reason I switched from Windows/Premier to Mac/Final Cut was to avoid broken software. I'm beginning to think the Mac is no better. Well, that's not entirely true. I think OS X is more stable than any version of windows but DVD Studio Pro 4.0.2 is a step back in stability at least for me. Before upgrading to Tiger and FCS, I could reliably build and burn DVDs. Now I can no longer pry a complete working DVD out of DVDSP4.
I've got so many problems and so many questions I don't know if I should post them all in one message. I guess I'll keep them in one message but try to keep it short.

    BACKGROUND
I shoot and edit a weekly local soap opera: http://www.shadesoflife.net
Each time I complete four episodes I create a DVD with these four episodes on it for the cast. This DVD I'm working on is for episodes 92 through 95 and I'm adding chapter marks and scene indexes to the DVD. By using the DVDSP templates and the correct drop zones, this has been quite easy, except for the fact that I can't seem to get the video to import any more.
Actually I got three of my four episodes to import just fine. These were exported from FCP as stand-alone QT movies and included chapter marks. Episode 94 would never finish the background compression step when importing into the DVDSP project as an asset.
Because of the suggestions I read in other articles in this discussion group about this kind of problem, I deleted the episode 94 audio and video assets from the project along with all menus which referenced them. I then started Compressor and transcoded the Episode 94 stand-alone QT movie and got these two files as a result:
    "SOL-094-DVD PCM Audio-.aiff"
    "SOL-094-MPEG-2 60 min Fast Encode-.m2v"
Next I imported these assets into the DVDSP project and used them to build the menus. This went smoothly. But, when I run the DVD simulation in DVDSP, episode 94 shows serious artifacts which render it unwatchable.
QUESTIONS: What Compressor encoding settings should I be using? What is the meaning of "60 min" and "120 min" in the encode settings? If I use a "120 min" setting will the file be bigger or smaller?
As I set here after reading the similar problems people have posted and the solutions and work-arounds people have suggested I see that a number of processes are not responding, according to the activity monitor. Generally this means that something is broken, but what. After rebooting OS X, running Compressor and then DVDSP I see the following processes that are not responding:
    - compressor
    - coreaudiod
    - DSPX_AEncoderServer
    - DSPX_EncoderServer
    - two copies of MediaServer
When I exit DVDSP all but the top two disappear. What is "not responding" a symptom of?
I could sure use some help here. Thanks.
    Peace,
    Rob:-]

    Same here :
It seems this problem started after updating QuickTime Player 7.0.2
when I open the Simulator in DVD 3.0.2 I can see (in Activity Monitor) 2 processes coming up : DSPX_AEncoderServer and DSPX_Encoder.
Instantly they turn red and get (Hung) added.

  • I just want to crop my photos! Preview and iPhoto not working since upgrading.

I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite, and since doing so the edit function on Preview is non-selectable and iPhoto won't save any of my edits!? Please help this is an urgent requirement! I'm not interested in upgrading to the new Photos app - I've head terrible things about it.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Flash plugin will not install since upgrading Firefox

Since upgrading to the latest version of Firefox, my Flash plug-in no longer works and after repeated attempts to download and install (both the manual Flash installer, and by visiting pages like Youtube which prompt installation) nothing is working. It's a frustrating loop that gets me nowhere and I've spent hours now uninstalling Flash, uninstalling Firefox, reading through forums etc. and I am getting no help aside from some suggestions to just give up and use Chrome, which is working with Flash just as well as it ever did. I can't understand why it seems like many people are facing this issue, yet there is no apparent fix to be found.

1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Processes 'Not Responding' & Kernel Panic

I am frequently seeing processes not repsonding in the Activity Monitor. This will happen numerous times a day, mostly with Safari & iPhoto. Less often Mail & Finder are included in the list. I have recently installed Firefox and the 'not respsonding' is less frequent than with Safari. I also had similar improvements with Chrome. I don't have to have both Safari/Firefox & iPhoto open, either will do. Also, playing music in iTunes, after a few tracks the music will pause of its own accord for quite a few seconds.
So, mostly in iPhoto or Safari, the spinning wheel will appear and the activity monitor will show iPhoto/Safari as Not Responing. This may continue for several minutes or more. I am able to swipe left & right to other desktops, but can't do anything in any program. For this reason I'm not able to Force Quit anything. The activity monitor will show cpu at 95% idle and plenty of free memory.  After several minutes the programs usually 'wake up' and the force quit option confirmation will appear  (if I have tried to initiate it from the Activity Monitor). Programs may then respond normally again, or go back to Not Responding.
If the hang goes on for too long and I power off using the on/off button the machine will more often than not take 10+ minutes to reboot. The apple logo will be on the screen for 5+ minutes and may take a further 5-10 minutes once the Desktop screen appears. Occasionally the apple logo as remained for about 30 minutes.
I have found the situation usually recovers itself better if I don't power off & restart, though sometimes it appears to be the only option.
I have installed more memory (4gb x2). Verified/repaired permissions. The iMac has had a couple of overnight stays in the Genius bar where the hard drive has been stress tested and hardware generally found to be working fine. They guided me through a clean install of OS X.
I don't recall having problems prior to the release of iPhoto '11.
I don't have any diagnostic information from before the OS X install (sorry, didn't realise it existed). Since the install I have:
    User Diagnostic Reports
    iPhoto - iMac.crash
    PluginProcess - iMac.crash
    System Daignostic Reports
    Kernel - iMac.panic - pasted below
    Pages - iMac.hang
    Safari - iMac.hang
    Safari - iMac.spin x2
I am not sure what to look for in the system log around the time of the hangs.
A kernel panic is very rare for me. I think it's pointing to the graphics card - NVIDAI GeForce 9400 256 MB. But could it also be the cause of the hangs?
