Profiles missing

I recently had my computer reinstalled by my technical support and now there appears to be ICC profiles missing in Photoshop (CS2), in particular the US SWOP newsprint profile, it doesnt seem to be in the appropriate folder, ( I thought this came with Photoshop)does anyone know where I can get this profile.

Using instructions provided by The Unofficial Apple Weblog back in 2008, I was able to boot up in Single-User Mode and use Unix commands to remove the file signifying that Apple Setup was complete.
Note that the final command they list ( shutdown /h now) does not work. Just type the word exit in the command line instead.
Upon reboot, I was able to step through the set-up assistant portion of the OS X Lion installation process.
I set-up a new admin user making sure to use a unique full name, username, and password (not the same as the profile that's missing and needs to be restored). After finishing the set-up process, I was able to login as an admin level user with the newly created profile.
Once you are back in the system as an admin, click on the System Preferences icon in the Dock. When the System Prefernces pane opens, select "Accounts" under the "System" section. Then create a new user profile, but this time input the exact full name, username, and password of the missing admin profile you want to restore. Be sure to assign it an admin level status. A message will pop up telling you that a directory with that username already exists. Click the option that states something like "use existing directory." This will attach the new profile you're creating to the orphaned user directory. Be patient. The pinwheel will spin for up to 5 minutes as the Mac creates the new profile and links it to the existing directory.
When it's done, you will see the new profile show up in the user list. You may logout and login with your restored profile.
I decided to keep the temporary admin profile I created as a backup login in case something ever goes awry with my primary profile. Perhaps there's a drawback to that decision, but it seemed like a good idea.

  • Firefox will not open after fresh install in OSX Lion. "Firefox profile missing."

After recently upgrading OS X Snow leopard to OS X 10.7 Lion I downloaded and ran the Firefox installer package, only to find that Firefox could not open. The error message says "Profile missing – Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible"
I checked Firefox forums and found a script that when run in Terminal allows access to the (upper) Library folder; but this still does not solve the issue.
Obviously, with Lion Apple has deliberately placed a stumbling block in the way of would-be Firefox users.

Thank you. I solved the dilemma, which was one of my own making although I take no blame for it. You see, a while back I grew tired of going through the semantics of manually deleting Caches and Cookies and simply locked those folders (in Users/my name/Library) so that nothing could be added or removed from them without login credentials.
. . . There's where the fly got into the ointment. The Caches folder must be unlocked in order to run Firefox because it uses Caches to store files. Folder unlocked – problem solved.
It seems that OS X Lion has more warts than its predecessors (initially, at least), in that where Apple once gave the user full egress to all venues, it has developed a hard-nosed, up-in-your-face micro-managerial stance with Lion – such as making the System/Library invisible. This, of course, under the tacit label of "offering the user greater security" . . . against himself.
If you fully embrace that logic I've got some s. Florida realty I can dump I mean sell you on the cheap, lol.
    I appreciate your kind help.
    Thanks.

  • OS X SERVER "Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

We have an OS X 10.6.8 SL server managing our iMacs. Since the update of the workstations to at least 10.6.8 and Firefox 34.0.5, we get the error: [Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.] upon launch of Firefox. It appears to be an issue that the profile is stored on the server rather than on the local hard drive. There is no way whatsoever to access, configure, start, or any other way manage Firefox at this point. Need a solution to this problem as we have hundreds of users that are unable to use Firefox now.

    See:
This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
    *Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
    *Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.
You can use one of these to make Firefox create/use a new default profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
*Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

  • I cannot open Firefox at all... receive "Profile Missing" -- what next?

MAC desktop being used. When I click on my Firefox app it looks and looks then brings up a window: Profile Missing.
Obviously, I cannot do much without opening Firefox.
    What do I do next?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Pictures would help. A good way to do this is to post them to a free photo sharing site like Flickr and then post a link.

  • Firefox already running, profile missing or inaccessible, cannot kill in task manager

For reference, this is on windows 8
In the past I've (very rarely) had the "firefox is already running" error and was able to fix it by ending the process in task manager. I updated to firefox 36 the other day. Since then, firefox will run perfectly normally for a while, but after some time (varies from minutes to hours) I can no longer load new pages. The loading wheel just keeps spinning.
Once this has happened, if I quit firefox and try to open it again, it will give me "firefox already running" followed by "profile missing or inaccessible" error messages. If I go to task manager, sometimes no firefox.exe is there, sometimes it is and I cannot close it. In either case I still can't start the program.
I tried reinstalling firefox, which did not fix the issue. I've also tried creating a new profile, again to no avail. AVG picks up no malware. I did a system restore to a week ago, which seemed to work for a while, but the problem has started again. I'm looking for a solution other than installing an old version, if possible.

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Right click
on it, and select '''Open New Window.''' Sometimes this works.
If it opens, close it by '''Menu > File > Exit.'''
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows.

  • Firefox 4 b7 gives a Profile Missing error when launching

Firefox worked before on my OS X (10.6.5) system, but now gives a Profile Missing error that says "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I can't launch the Profile Manager using the Terminal command. I tried putting a clean install of Firefox 3.6.12 on, but the process closes as soon as it opens without any dialogs. No icon pops up on the dock.

Zensa posted a very useful command and it works well to solve this problem ...

Give it a try and it helps ... although your mac will ask for your admin password ... that made me scare a little.

  • Profile missing - can't create new one - uninstalled FF - reverted W8.1 to earlier - says already running when trying to re-install FF - many reboots VIPRE IS

original error message was "FF already running" - not showing in task manager - could not close - rebooted several times - same results - uninstalled FF and tried downloading & installing again - same "already running" message. Reverted W8.1 by about 3 weeks (3 updates) - same result when installing FF = "already running". After the "already running" message is always that profile is missing or inaccessible.
Getting the same stuff with TB BTW. Using the latest version of VIPRE internet security on auto update. Nothing similar on a W7 and an XP machine on same LAN. Is there a virus out there corrupting FF? VIPRE scan says nothing found on the 8.1 machine..

  • "Profile Missing" on startup, cannot initiate terminal level "Profile Manager"

I have downloaded Firefox from the internet today (10/7/2011), presumably Ver 7, but I cannot identify the version because it won't open. When I open it, I get a message, "Profile Missing: You firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." This was an upgrade from a prior version that worked, so I decided to use AppDelete to remove all traces of Firefox from the machine and to a reinstall using this latest software.
I have deleted the application using AppDelete, and reinstalled a fresh current download, I have rebooted the MacMini, all to no avail. The message continues. When I go to the FAQ section on this website, it advises that I use terminal to start the profile manager. When I do this, I get the same message. which I see when I try to start the program.

Select the most recent one and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report.
