Program stops responding on adding a text

I'm doing a lesson from the official tutorial.
When I attempt to add a new text layer the program stops responding. Windows Task Manager says that Photoshop is working, but nothing happen. Though it seems like the system is working on something.
Can I fix this myself?

Sounds like there's an unhandled exception that's perhaps occurring on a background thread.  I suggest adding an event handler for your AppDomain's UnhandledException event and putting some logging in there:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.appdomain.unhandledexception%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
You may also need to modify your application's default unhandled exception behavior:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157905%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
The information on the above pages should be enough to ensure almost* all exceptions can get caught by your code before triggering Windows Error Reporting.
(*Exceptions caused by the whole system being in an unstable state, such as a kernel mode issue, may not be caught - at that point all bets are off).
    Quanta,
I think that there is a bug in your thinking.
     - I agree that a worker thread may cause a Kernel error
     - I agree that this kernel error may cause the application to get unstable and can cause the UI thread to start to hang waiting for a return value
     - And I agree that if this happen then this message will pop
    However,
     - If the error was silent, it is that the worker thread never returned (Otherwise, the error would have been propagated.
     - If the message has popped, it is that the UI thread is hanging (deadlocked)
Then if all your threads are blocked, ... Which thread will raise the Unhanded exception event?? ... all your threads are stopped or blocked somewhere.
This is why In the code example I showed, I used a Timers.timer to create the exception and stop the application. The Timers.timer object bring a new thread in the application when the application start to hang. This thread can be used to resolve the situation.
I choose to Abort the UI thread as it is the only logical thing to do. Plus doing this gives us the stack trace and info needed for debugging

I have starter 3.0 and cannot share pictures via outlook express. Evidently that version is discontinued and my outlook express does not support the MAPI that is required. I think the only solution is to upgrade to photoshop
elements or to send photos as attachment to your e-mail.  I have the same problem using Zoom Browser EX sending photos via internet. I spent a whole day trying to resove this issue and have exhausted all options. Just like "Instant share" in HP image Zone that was replace by photoshop album starter 3.0 and now it is out dated.

    Hello,
I have recently been having trouble right clicking on my macbook pro. Every time I try to do so, the rainbow wheel shows up and my program stops responding. I have tried switching the right click method on my track pad, but there are no changes. Do I have a virus?

Repair permissions and restart your comp.  If that does not work, then try the following:  CLICKY CLICK---> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

NOPE!  There are no viruses for OS X yet.

  • Programs stop responding when I try to print to PDF

    Info on what I'm using:
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit
Using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, version 8.1.0, up to date on updates
In this example, Microsoft Office 2007, no add-ons besides the Adobe Acrobat add-in that allows the creation of a PDF (but happens in all programs)
    Problem:
I have always created a PDF from a Word/Excel document by printing to PDF (File --> Print --> Select Adobe PDF as printer --> Hit OK). Generally, the next step that occurs is a dialog box appearing that prompts me to select the location where I want to save the PDF and to specify a file name. Several weeks ago, this process stopped working. Now when I hit "Ok" to print to PDF, no dialog box appears and whatever program I'm in freezes/stops responding. Aside: I have tried printing to PDF from several other programs to see if the problem occurs in those as well, and it does -- printing to PDF freezes whatever program I am attempting to print from. (For example, MS Paint, Internet Explorer, Firefox, even Notepad)
Bullet point summary of what I have tried:
Canceling the print jobs in the Adobe PDF printer under "Devices and Printers" (jobs say they are canceling but never clear from the print queue unless I go into Services and restart my print spooler) and reprinting (freezes again)
    Restarting computer (had no effect)
Setting Adobe PDF as my default printer (had no effect)
Setting TrueType font as "Native TrueType" under the Adobe PDF printer properties (Layout --> Advanced --> PostScript Options) (suggested in another thread I read about this problem; had no effect)
Checking to make sure that Word had not "adjusted" the security settings for the Adobe add-in (disabling it) under the Trust Center (Adobe add-in was still enabled, so nothing to change there)
Changing the printer properties to print directly to the printer rather than spooling first (had no effect)
Saving as PDF using File --> Save As --> Selecting PDF as file type (does work and is an acceptable substitute except when I need to convert multiple files to PDF at once and don't have time to go in to each individual file and convert it separately)
Repairing the Acrobat installation from within Adobe or from the Programs and Features menu under the Control Panel (does work, did fix the problem; but see followup below).
Repairing the Acrobat installation worked when I did it a few weeks ago. Once I went through the process, I attempted to print a document to PDF and it worked. But this morning when I attempted to print another document to PDF, it froze Word again and has been doing that ever since, so it does not seem to be a permanent fix. I had succesfully printed several documents to PDF this morning before it stopped working; the document I printed to PDF immediately before the document that froze was the exact same as the document froze in every way except the actual text (formatting, document objects, etc.). So I don't think it was something in the content of the document that "broke" the Adobe PDF printer.
I am sure I can try repairing the Adobe installation again, but I really do not want to have to do that all of the time. Does anyone know what the problem is? I haven't found anything that explains what's going on.

    Anyone?

  • Itunes stops responding when adding music

I have an iPod classic (I think 5th gen) it had worked great for a long time and then a few weeks ago it just froze. After it froze I forced restarted it and all my music was gone. Now I am trying to add all my music and everytime to go to do it (whether on mac or pc) a few files will load and then itunes will freeze and stop responding. I am running itunes 10.6.1 on my pc and 11 on my mac and I have restored the ipod a couple times but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I would love any advice or help because this is extremely frustrating. Thanks

  • The program stops responding to delete messages, changing to another message. How do I fix it?

My program won't delete messages easily. I have to sit and wait for each to delete. It won't change to another message after deleting, just sits on the one it landed on. If I close the program several times, it may work normally for a while, but then reverts back to not responding. I am getting very frustrated with the program not responding to commands.
Besides that problem, I have 5 different inboxes, and can't get rid of the ones I don't use. I have 2 trash files, and can't get rid of those either. I don't want to just delete the whole program and go to another provider because I have professional papers stored here and don't want to lose them.

I updated my iPhoto, but when the progam opens it says it must upgrade the iphoto library.  When I do this, it stops responding near the end of the upgrade.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Aperture stops responding when adding another iPhoto library

I bought Aperture so that I could merge/add my wife's laptop iphoto library with her iMac Iphoto library.  I have read all the forums and tried to make sure that everything was good to go for this process.  When I try the process Aperture just stops responding every time.  I have plenty of hard drive space, plenty of ram. check the librarys with the library first aid apps, everything!!  I am mad because this shouldn't be difficult.  Can anyone help.

How many photos and how long did you leave it before you decided it had stopped responding?
I was testing a theroy last week and did an import for 18,000 images, but with each image going to it's project so Aperture needed to create 18,000 projects for the import.
It stopped responding and to all intents it looked like it had died. But in Activity Monitor I kept an eye on how much memory was being used and noticed this was still changing over time so I let Aperture continue (even though it wasn't responding).
After about 4 hours, it crashed with a message saying it had caused the virtual mempory page file to 40+ GB which OS X decided was excessive and force quite Aperture. The point being, for those 4 hours when it appeared to have died, it was actually still working away.
So, first I'd recommend running the process overnight to give it enough time to finish or really die. If it really wont finish, it may be related to the Aperture/Mavericks memory leaks problems that have been reported here recently.
If you are not in a hurry, you could wait for Apple to stabilise the combination and see if it then works.
Alternatively, it you want to get it done quickly, here's what I'd try:
Which ever library you want to import, back it up and then open it directly in Aperture.
Organise the projects (what were events in iPhotos) into folders, say one folder for each year. So for example you now have a 2011 folder containing all your 2011 events (projects). CTRL + Click the 2011 folder and choose "Export->Folder As New Library". This will create a new library containing just the 2011 events.
Now, back in the main library tell Aperture to import this 2011 library and see if it handles the smaller (and Aperture created) library any better. If it does, you can go to the other library and repeat for each year of photos.
If it still doesn't, I try creating a brand new library in Aperture (File->Switch to libray->Other/New) and try importing the 2011 library into that.
Essentially you are trying two things with this approach. First, to see if smaller libraries import successfully. Second, to see if the import is successful when you import an Aperture created library into an Aperture created library (rather than an iPhoto created library into an iPhoto created library)

  • Win 8.1 programs stop responding.

over the past few week I've ben experiencing a strange occurrence. At random times usually in the evening my system will freeze after it's been idol for some time. If I have IE open and hit a link to go to it the system won't respond. If I try to open task
manager it also won't open. Some times if I let it sit for a time things will start responding. Usually I'll end up having to restart the system. After it reboots it's fine.
I've tried looking in event manager but can't seem to find anything that points to a cause. Could someone suggest a way I may find out what it is. TIA

  • After Effects stops responding when importing larger video

Although this is likely a common topic, I've searched just about everywhere for an answer to this new problem I'm experiencing and I have had no luck.
Just recently, out of the blue, when I try to import larger (100+mb) quicktime videos into after effects the program stops responding and it doesn't give me an error message.  Smaller 2mb videos import without a problem but I can't even drag a large video into the comp without it closing down on me.  I've imported 400 rpf pictures in sequence which was 1gb and it worked fine but larger videos just shut it down.  I've tried the following:
    - adjusting my OpenGL settings.
    - removing my gl plugin
    - adjusting my texture memory
    - resetting preferences back to default
    - purged my image and video memory
    - cleared all the caches
    - re-installed quicktime and made sure it was the correct version
    - re-installed after effects (cs5.5) version 10.5.5.253
    - reduced resolution
    - swore loudly and cried uncontrolably
I have used this videos many times in the past without problem it just seems that all of a sudden the video is too big making the program shut down.
I'm on Windows 7 Intel quad core processor
    16gb ram
Grapics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 (4064mb ram)
I've checked the graphics card and I'm running the most up to date version.
I hope I have provided enough information.  I appreciate any help in advance.

Well, I'd back up all your data first, if you haven't already. You should be doing that all along anyway. (Don't forget things like Photoshop brushes, Animation presets, etc. in your Adobe folders.)
Alright, before we go crazy, I would Google around for instructions on how to completely remove K-Lite.
If, you follow that and it's still messing up, the second thing I would do is to uninstall all your Adobe software.
Then run the CS Cleaner Adobe provides on their website.
    Uninstall Quicktime.
Download and install a new version of Quicktime 7 (NOT Quicktime X).
And then reinstall your Creative Suite software.
If, after those steps, it still doesn't work, then you are going to have to go nuclear.
The first step is to back up all of your data. Documents, fonts, project files, stock footage libraries, music, animation presets, project templates, etc. Anything that you've added to the computer (except for programs).
Your computer either came with recovery disks or the ability to create them. Make the disks if you haven't already.
Put them in and reboot the machine. It should give you an option to wipe out everything and install a clean version of Windows. You will then have to reinstall your programs (NOT k-lite ) and put all your files back on the machine.

  • ITunes 10.6.1 x64 regularly stops responding.

    Hello -
My name is Erick and I'm an ACMT/Network Engineer; Apple-certified, but not Apple-employed.
I have experienced an issue with iTunes 10.6 in general that has not been resolved by the latest update to 10.6.1. Upon opening the iTunes application, it initially responds but within 15 seconds freezes and is Not Responding. The unresponsiveness lasts up to five full minutes, then the program begins working again. The issue appears to begin as the iTunes Match cloud icon begins animating and checking for updates to my music library.
The same situation also occurs regularly if/when I make changed to a Smart Playlist. The program stops responding for up to five full minutes, then works properly.
Here's some additional information about what I've already attempted in efforts to fix the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for how I might remedy this issue? While it's not crippling my use of the application entirely, it does cause unexpected headaches and delays, and it'd be great to fix it.
I've attempted to resolve the issue by opening a new library and using it temporarily to test, rebuilding the library by starting fresh and importing from my iTunes Library file, and I've also attempted to use iTunes 10.6.1 from a different user account. Finally, I loaded iTunes 10.6.1 onto my external troubleshooting drive which is running the same OS. I've seen the issue persist in each situation. I've also attempted to run iTunes in 32-bit mode as I experienced some success with this fix related to other issues in the past.
I am using an iMac 27" with the quad i7, 16GB, and a 1TB hard drive. All of my music is on iTunes Match and none of it is being stored locally on this machine. My TV and Movies are being stored on an external 2TB drive, as is the iTunes Library file itself.
I would be happy to provide any logs or additional information that could help resolve this problem. I appreciate any assistance and hope to have this resolved at some point. My iMac is typically on 24/7 as it operates as a streaming server for services like StreamToMe, SugarSync, Plex, and other file services. Additionally, iTunes is typically open 24/7 to provide streaming ability to my Apple TVs (1080p versions), though I do have a scheduled task which exits and re-opens iTunes at 4:30AM to prompt syncing of my iOS devices before I head to work (putting the latest unwatched media on them).
I'm sure some of this is unnecessary or extraneous information, but I wanted to be thorough in my explanation and context. Thanks again for your assistance, everyone.

I have resolved my issue with iTunes' unresponsiveness and wanted to post the solution for anyone who might be experiencing similar symptoms. It was really quite simple to fix, I just didn't see it for what it was:
iTunes Match was causing iTunes to stop responding for several minutes at a time, and several times a day.
iTunes Match - which also forces Genius Mode to be on (something that used to cause my iTunes 10.5 to freeze before I turned it off) - would regularly attempt to refresh my database of 21,000 matched songs (none of which were stored on the computer - just in the cloud) and when it would attempt to update or refresh that library, the program would stop responding.
The constant queueing of iTunes Match / Genius also caused iTunes to consume a significant amount of RAM - something that was also causing issues and which I posted about in another discussion.
So, the simple solution was this: Turn iTunes Match off and iTunes quits freezing.
Now, that of course completely eliminates the usefulness of iTunes Match since the music is no longer accessible on this machine in this iTunes Library. So how to restore its usefulness without recreating the problem? Slightly more aggravating, but still working right: I created a separate, fresh new library and named it iTunes Match. When I need music, I hold option when selecting the iTunes app and select my Match Library, which has NOTHING else in it but iTunes Match. When I'm done with the music, I switch back to my 24/7 media streaming library that has my 2TB of TV Shows & Movies (and device sync relationships) in it.
It doesn't seem like iTunes Match causes freezing and RAM ballooning all by itself, it just seems like in a library that's also full of other stuff, it's the final straw that kills the performance. Split the libraries up and things seem to work really well in both.
Not a perfect solution, but until the next release of iTunes, this may be the best bet. I hope this helps someone else out there, but it at least cleared up my issue. Thanks for reading.
